We had a broken old-fashioned looking "deadbolt" lock for 3 years that we never bothered to fix. It was in bad shape. The inner knob was dangling, and it never worked. Because the door had a second deadbolt lock that we used. Basically, the "deadbolt" was looking really bad, so we found All Bergen Locksmiths on Yelp with positive reviews, so my wife called on a Saturday. The shop picked up and a jovial man answered her questions and was able to send a technician on the same day. So, why is "deadbolt" in quotes in this review? We actually didn't know the correct name for this lock, so it is our mistake for telling the locksmith that we had a "deadbolt" problem. But, the technician who arrived, Ben, knew exactly what it was. Ben arrived within the time window and was super nice and professional. He examined the lock and told us we had a mortise lock. Because mortise locks require a large amount of space inside the door, this was not an easily replaced part. Modern prices for mortise locks would be prohibitively expensive with no guarantee it would fit the existing space inside the door. He stated to us that it would be cheaper to buy an entire new door. However, he said that it might be possible to repair the mortise lock with some new parts. And he succeeded! Truly, a resourceful, skilled, and honest locksmith! Finally, he educated us on how to lock and unlock the door, since mortise locks work a little differently than modern locks. He cleaned up and gave us the invoice, which was very reasonable and less expensive than the locksmith in our own town (who didn't identify the lock type properly when they examined it). We definitely will call back All Bergen Locksmiths in the future. read more
