I was in a bind! I failed to replace a battery on a keypad / lock on a door inside my home and unfortunately left the only "back-up" key in the room. I called the manufacturer and there was no way for me to bypass it. My only hope, without causing damage, was to call a locksmith. I googled and was fortunate to come across A-1 Locksmith ((201) 391-1177). I reached Joe. Not only did he say that he could come out (4th of July holiday weekend), but stated that he would arrive within 1/2 hour. He was punctual, reliable, knowledgable, and professional. I agree with the prior reviewer. Called this guy who appears to be a 1 man operation, to install 2 locks on my new home, one being a smart Lock and the other just replace another lock. After I called but before he came I decided to return and replace the smart lock based on some bad reviews of the lock so I called him as a courtesy an hour + before the appointment to give him the choice to come and install the one lock and come back some other day for the smart lock that I was purchasing that same day or wait and install both at the same time. Instead of being appreciative of the call he said "so your cancelling, you know what get someone else" . I said. No problem and hung up, as if this is how he treats people before he gets a dime I can imagine how he is after. As a self employed businessman myself this guy really should not be in business as he is rude , unprofessional and hasn't a clue as to what customer service means. Buyer beware. I had a very disappointing experience with this business. I was looking for a replacement part for my front security door lock to fit the local fire code that requires front security doors to have turnpiece interior locks vs. keyed locks. When I told the owner what I needed, he immediately refused to change a security door lock since he said it was too hard to source parts for them. His suggestion was to remove the lock entirely and leave it as a door that would provide absolutely no security, which to my mind pretty much defeats the purpose of having a security door. He invited me to try to source the part from the manufacturer, but said I probably would have a hard time since all parts are made in China these days. He wouldn't even try but said he'd be happy to install a lock if I found one. Of course, I called a different locksmith who listened, was patient and responsive, and started researching the part straightaway. Because I was curious, I researched too, and in less than 10 minutes found the exact part I needed (btw, I am not in the locksmith business, but Google is AWESOME) , and ordered it. The second company promptly and reasonably installed the lock without a hitch. I suppose A-1 excels at some tasks, but this company's unwillingness to even attempt to satisfy this customer left me cold. There are better choices out there. read more
