I was in a bind! I failed to replace a battery on a keypad / lock on a door inside my home and unfortunately left the only "back-up" key in the room. I called the manufacturer and there was no way for me to bypass it. My only hope, without causing damage, was to call a locksmith. I googled and was fortunate to come across A-1 Locksmith ((201) 391-1177). I reached Joe. Not only did he say that he could come out (4th of July holiday weekend), but stated that he would arrive within 1/2 hour. He was punctual, reliable, knowledgable, and professional. Joe completed the work quickly and efficiently without causing any damage. He ensured operation and charged me exactly what he quoted. Yes, stupid error on my part, but resolved by Joe / A1. I had never used him before but would certainly use him again and refer him to others. Thank you Joe for your patience and time, getting me back into the room, and saving the day! read more

I agree with the prior reviewer. Called this guy who appears to be a 1 man operation, to install 2 locks on my new home, one being a smart Lock and the other just replace another lock. After I called but before he came I decided to return and replace the smart lock based on some bad reviews of the lock so I called him as a courtesy an hour + before the appointment to give him the choice to come and install the one lock and come back some other day for the smart lock that I was purchasing that same day or wait and install both at the same time. Instead of being appreciative of the call he said "so your cancelling, you know what get someone else" . I said. No problem and hung up, as if this is how he treats people before he gets a dime I can imagine how he is after. As a self employed businessman myself this guy really should not be in business as he is rude , unprofessional and hasn't a clue as to what customer service means. Buyer beware. I should have looked at the Yelp review above before I called in the first place. read more

terrible, terrible experience. The person that answered the phone was extremely rude. Stated that i should send pictures so "he wouldn't waste his time". After I told home it would be easier for him to check the job, he proceeded to curse me out. ... no one should hire this individual, clearly he does not need the work and has horrendous people skills. -10 grading! read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this business. I was looking for a replacement part for my front security door lock to fit the local fire code that requires front security doors to have turnpiece interior locks vs. keyed locks. When I told the owner what I needed, he immediately refused to change a security door lock since he said it was too hard to source parts for them. His suggestion was to remove the lock entirely and leave it as a door that would provide absolutely no security, which to my mind pretty much defeats the purpose of having a security door. He invited me to try to source the part from the manufacturer, but said I probably would have a hard time since all parts are made in China these days. He wouldn't even try but said he'd be happy to install a lock if I found one. Of course, I called a different locksmith who listened, was patient and responsive, and started researching the part straightaway. Because I was curious, I researched too, and in less than 10 minutes found the exact part I needed (btw, I am not in the locksmith business, but Google is AWESOME) , and ordered it. The second company promptly and reasonably installed the lock without a hitch. I suppose A-1 excels at some tasks, but this company's unwillingness to even attempt to satisfy this customer left me cold. There are better choices out there. read more

After a misunderstanding with another locksmith, I thankfully found Joe. It was after normal business hours and I needed two urgent door/lock repairs. He arrived within 30 minutes and completed his work in the same amount of time. Joe was honest, professional, and miraculously was able to fix my locks significantly UNDER the appraised repair price. I would highly recommend his services and he will definitely be my go-to locksmith moving forward. On top of that, he's incredibly personable! read more

Joe is extremely rude. Just called to have him come over and figure out the lock on my Range Rover, after he was done asking me questions he snapped-"That's not an emergency" and hung up. Since when is not being able to close and lock your vehicle not considered an emergency? If I could give him 0 stars I would but this will do for now. Don't use this company. read more

They really are A-1. The gentleman showed up on time, on a Saturday, gave me a good price, and even fixed my mailbox. I would definitely use this company again. read more

I recently bought a condo and wanted the deadlock re-keyed. I thoroughly researched locksmiths on the internet; not only did I read reviews, I checked for NJ Home Improvement Contractor licenses and business addresses to be sure they were in fact local. The clear choice was Joe from A-1 Locksmith out of Westwood. He provided a fair price, arrived on time, and did a great job. He was so nice to deal with. I would use him again in a second. read more
