This has been my go to lock shop for forty plus years. They had key blanks that other locksmiths--including NYC locksmiths--did not have. About twenty years ago, wanted to re-key a lock so one key would work on both door handle and deadbolt sets. I called a few lock shops to get price for re-keying three locks. I would bring locks to them to save money. Main Lock did it for $15 (fifteen) for 1st re-keyed lock and $10 for other two. Other lock shops wanted 30 to 45 for 1st lock and additional for other two. Needing an urgent assist to remove an older style mortise lock and replace with a newer lock on the front door, I called a few local locksmiths. Christian was eager to help over the phone since he was short-staffed that day, inquired about details, and asked to see a few pictures without even asking about payment. After sending over the pics, he suggested to bring in the deadbolt lock re-keyed, to which I respectfully declined since I wanted to replace the old with the new with a different locksmith. He cautioned me that there are a few scammers out there who don't know what they are doing, but I took a chance with this different locksmith anyways. I needed to have a front door handle and lock changed and needed to door locks fixed on two other doors. Rich G., our service man, came during the time window given, was polite, professional and said he would not leave until the locks worked perfectly. I cannot remember the last time I had a service person say they would stay until the job was perfect. He explained what he needed to do, told me the approximate amount of time it would take and gave me a an estimate of the job. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I called there today to have several keys made up & they told that they were open until 5:00 PM. I therefore left work early to be sure I was there before 5:00 pm. I called there when I was near their store & a recording said that they were open until 1:00 PM on the weekdays!! Why did they lie to me when I specifically asked for the time they were opened until & it's also posted on their website until 5:00 PM. I came here from Edgewater- drove 30 minutes to get here & now have to turn around & drive back, which will take me at least 45 minutes thru rush hour traffic. This is obviously not a reputable business & I would STAY AWAY from them. Would give less than 1 star if I could. read more

After reading the two other reviews I'm not sure if I just got lucky the couple times I've been here, but I found the service to be fast and friendly. I came here on a Saturday to have a duplicate made for my motorcycle key. I've tried different Home Depots and Minute Key machines, and they were not able to duplicate my Suzuki key so I went to this place. It came out to $4.28 which seemed a little much but given I had no luck at other places it was a small price to pay for my peace of mind. The man I dealt with was extremely quick. I think I was in and out of the store in about 2 minutes. While I was paying the gentleman asked if I rode my motorcycle to the shop and he suggested I try it before leaving. I was super happy with this company. Just moved to New York and called three locksmiths and Guy answered and said he could have someone here in an hour. I was so surprised and stressed it was not urgent. And this was a Sunday! And no extra fees! Jonathan was a great communicator and texted he was a little delayed due to street closures for the bike marathon but he made good time. They were extremely competitive and did a great job. I have been going to Main Lock for many years. I've probably been there 20 times or more. I have no complaints at all. Sometimes it gets a little busy and I've had to wait up to 10 minutes until it was my turn, but that's because they are good at what they do. An example of why to use them: Get a key copied at Walmart or somewhere else (where it isn't their main business) and it might or might not work when you try it. I never got a copy that didn't work from Main Lock. I just remembered something. A while ago I needed a skeleton key but I wasn't sure which one. They gave me about 5 to take home and try and sure enough 1 worked. I brought the others back. I don't know if they would do this for someone they didn't recognize but that's what they did for me. Someday small family businesses might not exist but until then I will choose one over a chain store every time. read more

Purchased a car with a car key that was in rough shape. Wobbly blade, gutted shell, no remote key features; I was a sad man. My father had recommended this place to me, and I decided to go get a quote. I'd already pre purchased two keys from Amazon with the electronics inside to be programmed and cut for my car. When I got inside, I was told what it'd cost and I was more than happy with the price. Best price I'd found, and thought I'd pay an extra charge for the second key. Nope. Mario saved the day, (like the famous Italian plumber we all know and love.), had me in and out in about 15 minutes, charged me a flat rate and did both keys for me. Small little shop in Teaneck. Came here because another shop referred me. Basically they were able to cut my 2008 Porsche 911 key. No other shop had the right equipment to do it. I would highly recommend Main Lock and would definitely use again if I ever need a locksmith. From the customer service on the first phone call until Chris finished the work at my house - it was all professional and a pleasure. I knew the lock I wanted and was quoted a price w/install. Chris came on time to install and did so without issues. As a bonus, he was friendly with my cats when they went to greet him too. They are the reason why you use a local store that has a shop front in the neighborhood. Prior to my neighbor telling me about Main Lock and his good experiences, I had started with that 24 hour locksmith scam and getting a ton of voicemails about people coming to my house and $29 charges to look at the door, $39 to analyze the door, $49 to touch the door, etc....
