This place is located in the heart of the Hotel Zone but on a quieter side street. They specialize in seafood but also have the typical Mexican food as well as American food like burgers and fries. We opted for a fish sandwich with fries, shrimp cocktail and the chilpachole (seafood stew). Everything tasted fresh and delicious with good sized portions. Drink menu was very good as well, with many cocktails to choose from. We had the margaritas, and they were definitely good quality and strong. This place has a huge outdoor seating area and has a low key feel - definitely family friendly. I visited this location for my birthday. The quality of the food and service was excellent. I enjoyed the coconut shrimp and table-side guacamole. This restaurant is located in a great area and is very inviting. However, I took off two stars as I was forced to leave a review to get a complimentary birthday shot. My waiter was Carlos. He started off doing great; however, I waited about 30-40 minutes between finishing my food and receiving my check. To me, this was unacceptable. Great place if you're looking for great seafood and a casual atmosphere! The waitstaff is very attentive and friendly, and are bilingual for any other tourists like us who can't get by on their Spanish. I had the battered fish tacos, which were good, and my wife had the grilled tuna, which was fantastic. They really know what they are doing with their seafood, so don't be shy about ordering the tuna more on the rare side than well-done. To top it off we had their horchata and tres leches cake (they call it their three milk cake but come on, we know what it's really called!) and they were fantastic. After doing some retail therapy in the neighboring shops, we walked by Marinero's and Raul, the waiter, caught our attention by stating that the restaurant was one of the top 20 restaurants in Cancun. That peaked our curiosity so we gave it a try, and we were not disappointed. The chicken fajitas was perfectly seasoned and very tasty, the octopus with garlic butter was tender and moist, and the smoked marlin burrito was very flavorful. Raul gave us a heads up and advised that the marlin did not have the same texture as fish and tasted more like pork. It actually had more like a chicken texture and we were not disappointed. The food was lacking flavor and as stated earlier by another reviewer, it is a tourists trap, not authentic at all. Also the manger was very rude. We ordered a seafood enchilada (which states it is cooked in a white wine sauce topped with a house special sauce), when it arrived it was covered in red sauce and when we asked to replace it the waiter suddenly didn't understand English anymore so we asked the manager for help he came and told us that all Mexican enchiladas are cooked in red sauce and if we did not know that, that it was not his problem that we didn't know. I guess their lack of pictures on the menu should have been enough warning for bad food. DO NOT GO HERE, stick to the real authentic restaurants across the street from Señor frogs. read more

Hooray for the fruit and alcohol! During a late night stroll and headed to a club, we stumbled upon Marinero's. The atmosphere was festive, and I really needed a classic margarita. I ordered a large mango blended margarita. I watched the server make the margarita and noticed he included fresh mango, Jose Cuervo, and Triple sec. This margarita was very good, and the texture was bordering on whipped. It was not too sweet or sour...it was just right. This drink really got the party started. He asked us few questions and took our order without writing it down, anyways waiter brought our food after 30 min food was not good at all. Now here is a scam waiter bring us a bill on a handwritten piece of paper for $57 USA dollars. It was for 4 shrimp tacos(229), 1 fried fish(498) and 1 cake(89) total 816 pesos, which should be $40 I ask him why it is $57 he told me it is a service fee which is not mentioned anywhere in their menu. We should have known by the laminated menus that it was just another touristy chain type restaurant, but we were hungry and already sitting down. I ordered the lobster tail; it came plated on top of what seemed to be runny instant mashed potatoes with big chunks of garlic in it and a side of cold ribboned carrots. The color and consistency of the potatoes were so unappetizing. It was like gray baby food. The lobster was grilled, and could have been decent had it come with butter or lemon or anything to accompany it, but there was nothing. It was just rubbery unseasoned flesh. If its your 1st day in Cancun and you haven't tried anywhere else, you'd live with the food here. It's dry, bland, overcooked, missing food from what you ordered on the menu. But you'd be happy with your holiday and not noticed that they have conned you. The waitress spoke perfect English until I asked her where are the other half of my orders that are supposed be on the menu, she walked off straight away pretending she doesn't understand me. The rice was dry and tiny portion, with 4 bites of boiled vegetable on top. The manager told me that's what you get for 2 people! Later they came over and told us the kitchen is running out of mussels so they have gave us "extra fish". We were told the kitchen would make more food to make it up for the mistake, and guess what? The chef came over with TWO burnt tiny mussels! The bill came with full price, for half of the food is missing on our plate. They even put a happy face on the review page on behalf of us. Service was great as hotel zone restaurants tend to be..however, I would definitely say that service was not as exceptional as it was at Mextreme. The outdoor seating was nice but the restaurant was very quiet and not lively at all. Standard chips and salsa were free. I ordered the seafood taco party and thought it was O-K. The octopus was soaked in butter to the point where all I could appreciate was butter. However, the presentation of said taco party was quite festive. Total price- $15.
