Looks can be deceiving with this neighborhood, corner dive bar. The front of the establishment is the bar and the back is the dining area which is clad with old family photos and a ton of sports memorabilia. There is also a TV tuned into whatever sporting event is happening. Our waitress was super friendly and engaged us in pleasant conversation and even recommended some other local places to eat. If you look at the menus posted in Yelp you will be disappointed to learn that it is not as extensive any longer, but what they do have is very good. I had a Texas burger that was a special which was perfectly cooked and tasted good, served on a fresh Costanzo roll. My wife had the beef on weck that I also sampled which was top notch. Probably the best part of both meals was the fresh hand cut fries! In terms of beer selection, there isn't much to choose from, especially if you're looking for crafts. Overall though this is a really nice "mom-and-pop" establishment with good food and friendly service. read more

Another one of our frequent lunch spots, driving from downtown. Have been coming every couple months for maybe 4 or 5 years. I find it odd that there are many reviews stating that lunch time service is slow. It's actually one of the places we'd come to if our time is limited on that day. Never a problem. It's also never over-crowded at lunch, though we do go kind of early. Much of their lunch crowd are guys who seem to be regulars, who choose to eat at the bar and chat. They have a decent variety on the menu, with some great daily specials. I've never had any of their spaghetti items, but it's supposed to be one of their specialties. There isn't a Cajun chicken on the menu, however, our waitress said it would be no problem to have my sandwich done Cajun. The chicken on my sandwich was so big, that I actually had to cut some of it off so that it better fit onto the roll! The sandwiches come with fries, and to substitute for a salad, there is a $1.50 upcharge. But, it's a pretty decent side salad, not just a bowl of lettuce, so that's fine. The décor is definitely sports bar. Though not a sports fan, I'm amazed at the amount of memorabilia on the walls. A true sports fan would be in heaven if they took the time to really look at all of it closely. In all the time we've gone, I've never seen more than one waitress. (Maybe there's another one who appears if they get busier?) She is always friendly and attentive. I'm guessing if she is truly the only one waiting on tables, a crowd at lunch could be a problem. Where do I start? I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Just a few blocks from Larkin Square you can come here and have a great experience every time. The bartenders are awesome. The waitstaff ate awesome. And the food is never disappointing. Biggest rule coming here: BRING CASH! They are cash only but they do have an ATM machine is you need one. There's a bar area with a decent amount of seating along with other seating areas in the back. They have a pool table and multiple TVs for your entertainment. Their drinks are very reasonably priced and so is there food. The best thing about the food, it is soooo good and you get huge portions. I've had multiple items from their menu and have never been disappointed. If you are looking for a place to watch the Bill's game, nobody has a better deal than they do. For $25 once you come in you get bottles and well drinks during the game, a complimentary buffet, and a free shot every time the Bill's score a touchdown. On Tuesdays they have trivia night and Fridays they have a great fish fry. I can keep going on about this place but you should definitely go there to experience it yourself. I have been here before to eat and their food is great. This review is for the drinks, atmosphere and bar trivia. My friend and I went to Food Truck Tuesday. It was extremely crowded and I wasn't in the mood. I suggested we go up the street to Marinaro's. It is a short walk up the street. There were some tables filled, and a couple spaces taken at the bar at around 7pm on a Tuesday. We saddled up to the bar and I ordered a pint glass of Jameson and ginger ale for $5 and my friend ordered a beer. The drink was a $1 more to get the bigger glass. The drink was good. The bartender was friendly. A lady came around and said that trivia would be starting soon and we could play. The trivia is every Tuesday at 7pm and great fun. I highly recommend it. The questions are great, and there is even an audio round. I look forward to trying it out again soon. read more

This place is right by my work so I decided to go for lunch. Service was a little slow, and food took a long time to come out, but not a big deal. It was pretty good. I got a burger and my 2 friends got the chicken parm. Quite a large portion too. I would recommend and go back for sure. read more

Things you need to know right off the bat: 1. They do not take cards. 2. The dining room is very small. Options for large parties are limited. I visited this establishment one Friday evening before an event at Key Bank Center. I was part of a party of 6. We had something like 2.5 hours before our event started so when we heard there would be a 40 minute wait we were all okay with hanging out by the bar and waiting. Well, that forty minute wait turned into something closer to and hour and 45 minute wait. This is no fault of the staff, they did everything they could to hurry things up for us, but the people in the seats we needed were enjoying themselves. I'm just explaining to make he point that the seating for large parties is limited. The feel of this place is totally home town. It's a little dark and kind of thrown together. Defiantly community based. The waitresses were all late 40s to 60s in regular clothing. There was one bar tender who was younger who had a polo with the logo on it. They were all friendly and helpful. In an effort to try and make it to our event on time, We put our food order in before we sat down.so when finally got our table, we had dinner right away. I am giving 4 stars because I was not very impressed. I got onion rights and one of their loaded french fries and I just did not really enjoy it. The onion rights were really over done. Definitely a hidden gem and a must stop for anyone looking for a work happy hour or quick lunch in the area. For being hidden back in a neighborhood this place is always pretty packed, which should be your first sign it's a great spot. I've had a couple meals here, all great, make sure to try the mango habanero wings if you stop in! Also, beware, this place is cash only. I am definitely a fan!! I really enjoy eating this hidden gem by the Larkin building on exchange street. The place is amazing from the service to the food. The chicken param melts in your mouth and their sauce is amazing. They also, put just the amount of cheeses on it. I have also tried their different types of fries. My favorite is the BLT fries and buffalo fries. Buffalo are my favorite with you choice of sauce and blue cheese. My goal is to try all 7 types of fries. I definitely will be back. Came here for a quick lunch, since it's such a quick walk from work. This is a hidden gem in the Larkin district. I had the special, a mushroom Swiss burger, and my friend had the chicken finger sub. Definitely recommend the burger! The bun was pretty phenomenal! A bit crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. Delicious! Con: Seemed like there was only one waitress for the entire lunch crowd, so although the food came out relatively fast after we ordered, there was some significant delay time. This is a neighborhood bar with good food and good prices. It has a very casual atmosphere. I stopped in with a friend and even ran into other friends there. We sat at a table in the bar area and the waitress was happy to serve us there. We ordered drinks and food. We started with loaded fries. There are many options available but we went with bacon and ranch. They were delicious but light on the ranch so order extra on the side. The fries had a good crunch and flavor to them. I ordered the chicken finger salad as my entree. My one friend said that was her regular order. You order the fingers to your desired heat and they are served chopped on lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced carrots, and diced celery. I recommend the blue cheese dressing with it. Was here over the weekend for a private party and have to say this place was alright. It's a pretty laid back bar atmosphere filled with all sorts of sports memorabilia. Had some decent beers on tap. The mozzarella sticks were good; they had a hard breading. I ordered a random meatball in sauce and it was really fresh, homemade and tasty. The Stallion sandwich was next - which was a sausage patty with a stuffed pepper and capicola on top. Excellent food and inexpensive drinks! They serve lunch quickly and are situated close to Larkinville. My favorite dishes here are the stuffed banana peppers (not on menu but available daily), summer salad (VERY good vinaigrette), baked italian fish (available on fridays, healthy but has a lot of taste, with mixed veggies and rice), and pizza logs for bar food in the evening. My mother says the fried bologna and beef barely soup is awesome! At night they double as a sports bar with very nice bartenders! Also a plus, the owners keep the place super clean. Great hangout close to downtown but where you can catch up with friends! I am planning on stopping down wednesday nights during the summer after Live at the Larkin; the bar will be having bands playing 8-11 weekly! read more

First timer at Marinaro's. My father took myself and my brother to the polish church openings for dyngus day weekend. We were heading back to the city when my father suggested we grab a bite to eat. I had never heard of Marinaro's even though I frequent larkinville. We sat at the bar, were promptly served with drink and food. The three of us ordered a turkey burger, beef on weck/wing platter and popcorn shrimp. The food could not have been better. The owner, who had only met my father once before, sent a round of drinks down halfway through the meal. The whole hour experience was superb and I will continue to be a patron. It was the night before St. Patty's Day and we were in town to visit family. That includes a Friday night fish fry, Saturday night party, and Sunday fly back home. Marinro's Larkin Tavern was our Friday night fish fry choice. The food was fresh, delicious (beer battered Haddock), made to order. This was in the middle of St. Patty's Day mayhem at the Tavern. Packed with folks having a great time. The owner, Chris, even took time out to come into the restaurant section asking for us by name. To thank us for coming to his place and making sure we were happy with the food, service, etc. Our waitress was tops too. A smile on her face (for a party of 12 adults and 3 children) even though she had been working all day...her name was JoAnne. Treat yourself and go to Marinaro's Larkin Tavern. This a Buffalo original! You can go in here and feel like you are one of the guys. The food is always great, I have never had a bad meal here, and the portions are generous! There is a ton of Buffalo sports memorabilia and photos on the walls all over the board- lot's to look at while you wait for you food. We discovered this place about 10 months ago after a tour of the Larkin District. It was described on the tour as what was once called a "Boss Saloon". Talking to the owners, we we told they remodeled after taking the bar over almost 2 years ago. The tin ceiling is original as is the bar itself. The food? Better, than most bar food. Fish fry is amazing, all homemade salads. The pie we had for desert was made from scratch by our waitress JoAnn (crust and all) The place is spotless too. You can see how everything shines.
