Cherry after being on a raw diet for a few months
Nancy P.

Elizabeth, the owner....I can't say enough good things about about her. I found Marin Raw in September of 2023. Thank God! My 13 year old Doberman had been diagnosed with Cushings Disease. I have owned 12 dobermans in my life and had been feeding dry dog food up until this diagnosis. I did the research and found out that the dry dog food, for so many many reasons should NEVER be fed to dogs. I immediately started grinding my own food. Ordering bone and hearts, etc and having it delivered from across the country, until I found Marin Raw. Elizabeth is like family now. She gives me so much information and even the code to her store, when I needed food late at night and she was closed. She is dedicated to educating dog owners and she is someone you can trust. As far as the Raw Diet and all the controversy over it. My veterinarian at Central Animal Hospital in Petaluma told me in no uncertain terms that raw is dangerous!! I have to say that in 8 days my dog showed no signs of Cushings. I had blood work done a month after putting her on an all raw diet and her blood work was completely normal. I found a holistic vet in Santa Rose, Wise and Wonderful Veterinary. Our second doberman is now on raw too. My daughter is a vet tech who lives with me. She is against the raw too. My sense is to feed closest to real food. I buy my raw meat from Elizabeth and grind vegetables to add and my dogs have never been healthier. I can not recommend Marin Raw enough. In fact I am like a representative for the raw diet now...I tell everyone, as I do think it has saved my 13 year old doberman's life. She could hardly breath, she had thick mucus coming from her eyes and had to have steroid cream 2x a day, she could not hold her urine and was drinking bowls of water and having accidents because she could not hold it. She was loosing all the strength in her legs, so could not even squat to urinate. Her coat was dull and dry. 6 months later. Wow!! A beautiful Speciman! She and her sister love their food. I even buy Elizabeth's raw Sardines and grind them in my food processor. I do not know what I would do without Marin Raw, as I did find out that the company I was buying from Blue Ridge Beef, Lily's Advantage....Santa Cruz. Shipped to me, however, they have a rendering facility. (Not regulated - basically a place where they dispose of animals that are diseased and die). Do not listen to your veterinarians. They do not know enough about a raw diet and will tell you it is bad. I know better now...wish I had know for my past dogs...

Crazy digestion issues, hair loss, intense itchiness, a lot of weight loss - so miserable :(

Liz changed my dog's life. My dog has been suffering from food intolerance, allergies and bowel disease her whole life. It got so bad she lost 20 lbs, her fur was falling out, completely itchy all over. Vets were prescribing all kinds of meds that were making her sicker. I thought she was going to die from the malabsorptive bowel disease. She was 11 years old. It was a slow and steady change to raw food. She is an insanely picky eater. Now she is 13 years old and mostly fine! I know she is an old dog with arthritis but her digestion issues have gone away.

Longtime customer first time reviewer. Last Saturday I went in to the store to bathe several tiny…read moredogs at the self pet wash. As soon as I walked in the door, an employee named Ashe greeted me and my dogs. I knew within one minute of chatting with her that she was very knowledgeable and dog savvy. She was very kind and polite and helpful. She was respectful of my dogs and clearly understood their body language. While they were in the pet wash, I realized that I could probably use a licky mat to put on the side of the tub to make the experience more pleasant for them. Somehow, Ash read my mind and checked in on us. When I asked if they had anything like that, she ran and got it for me. Unexpectedly, a family who had arrived and was using the tubs for their own pets, lost control of a very small dog who was not wearing a collar. The dog bolted from the tub and ran out of the doors into the parking lot. The mother and child ran out to get the dog and several passersby appeared to be chasing her, which is the worst thing you can do with a loose dog who is running The amazing Ashe quickly made sure that the other employees were manning the store, and briskly walked outside, assessed the situation, did a wide arc so as not to pressure the little dog in any direction, and planted herself far ahead of the dog so she could block her from getting to the main road if that became necessary. In short, Ashe is a gem. She is not only a stellar employee, but I fear she is overqualified and I may need to hire her myself. I will be back as I always am, but probably more frequently due to your wonderful employees. Thank you!!

As an example, our son ended up bringing home a very ill gecko that he saved from a friend. We went in for advice. They helped us get the little guy back to a normal state. We ended up taking him in to the store to rescue. About a month later, we were in the store for dog food. The "gecko" guy saw us and updated us on the rehoming and health of Gordon. The staff seems to be well trained. Always cheerful which is a good indicator of good management.

During my visit, I saw guinea pigs, mice, turtles, and other animals for sale, including guinea pigs advertised at 25% off. It was difficult to see living animals displayed and discounted like retail merchandise. Many of the animals were alone in small glass enclosures with little opportunity for enrichment or normal behavior. There are thousands and thousands of small animals in rescues that need homes. Continuing to source animals from commercial breeders while so many adoptable animals already exist is a business choice, not a necessity. I hope Petco moves toward ending the sale of live animals and instead becomes a leader in adoption partnerships with local rescue organizations. Until then, I can't support this aspect of the business and encourage others to consider adopting rather than purchasing animals from retail stores.
