Overall a great pet store. They have a huge variety of high quality food. Very friendly Staff and knowledgable. They have rescue kittens up for adoption there. The only thing is the room isn't ventilated well and it smells quite bad. I highly recommend they get an air purifier. It's hard to hang with the kittens because of the smell. Also I feel bad for the kittens because they are in that room with no ventilation. It's a great place and the small tweak to the adoption room would be a huge plus for the kittens and adopters. read more

This place is a joke. The guy that works at Pet Cottage discriminated against my grandmother who is in a wheelchair could not see the kittens that she was hoping to adopt. Not only did he discriminate against her but he was beyond rude. I will not be going back and do not recommend this place to anyone read more

Being a former employee at Pet Cottage I have seen this place from the inside out. They are good people with good intentions who take pride in their work. Sandie (owner) has a huge amount of knowledge when it comes to dogs and cats, but get her going on small animals or birds and prepare to have your mind blown. She is recommended by many vets in the area for nutritional consults, a compliment that speaks for itself. Lynne (manager) is the face you will see if you look up customer service in the dictionary. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met and will bend over backwards to make sure her clients are always happy and receiving the products they need. The support staff is made up of vet techs, animal nutritionalists, world class trainers, etc. It's a pretty impressive bunch if you ask me. Each and everyone of them has taught me to love and appreciate animals in a different and unique way. And all of them are more than happy to share their knowledge with you as well, just ask! When it comes to shopping and supporting local business, this is the place to go. In general, the prices rival those at Pet Food Express and Petco (I would know, I've checked most of them). The owner and manager are both Drake High School alumni, along with both their teenage employees. If all of that weren't enough... They also have rescue kittens! I have driven to Fresno and back with Sandie (owner) to rescue several litters of kittens. The staff is all trained in basic medical upkeep and the vet techs are on call for anything complicated. So disappointed and disgusted. Walked in since I saw a "rescue kittens" sign in red and I wanted to ask about the process for adoption etc... I approached the store and walked around and found the kittens. I then hear a woman yell across the store "HEY DONT GO IN THERE ONLY LOOK." Stunned since the store was silent I turned and saw the older woman with her 3 dogs at the register giggling with another woman who was purchasing something. I was looking at the kittens from afar and I then approached the register since I saw the owner alone now and asked "hi I wanted to know the process for adoption of a cat or kitten" she responds with a rude look "well what do you want a cat or kitten?" And I said " I'm not sure I want to get a cat for my mom..." and before I could finish "well then SHE needs to come in for MY application so I can MEET HER. I made the application" with crossed arms like if she was upset or like lecturing me? She seemed pissed as soon as she saw my partner and I walk in but of course being Latinos in "HER" store might have been her problem because she seemed perfectly fine with the customer before us. Wouldn't recommend asking for help here. Taking my business elsewhere which is sad because I love san Anselmo and hate feeling discriminated. read more

I just recently joined Yelp and thought of writing a review for Pet Cottage and read through all the existing ones and am SOOO surprised to see all these negative reviews on bad customer service. It's so weird to me because I have been going there for years, they used to be right in down town San Anselmo in a little store and now have this great spacious location on Greenfield Ave. (super easy parking btw) and I never had a bad experience there. As a matter of fact they are so knowledgable about pet nutrition and have such high quality foods! I am very health conscious and started doing a lot of research years ago on the raw food diet. I had two cats at the time, one of whom was very ill and was on a vet prescribed diet. We where in the middle of getting a dog and I wanted to start her out right. I had long conversations with Sandy, the owner, and she was so helpful. I got completely convinced to go manely raw and even started my sick cat on the raw food and stopped the vet prescribed food. The change in her within a month was unbelievable - she was like a new cat. My other one hardly ever went to the vet but got on the raw food as well and when we took her in at one point the vet thought she was a 3-4year old cat in very good health - well she was 17 at the time!!!! Every time I have a question about a new food or vitamins I go to the Pet Cottage and they are always very helpful. I think what some people might mistake for poor customer service is that they are not over bearing! They will never try to sell you something and they leave you alone to shop around, but if you have a question they are totally helpful. Sandy the owner is really nice, but she is not the warm and fuzzy kind - she is a bit more reserved, but there is nothing wrong with that. If you need her help she is full of knowledge and information and she truly cares about the animals - and that is what counts in my book. read more

They let me exchange it no problem and were so nice about it even though I came in about 3 minutes before closing time. I love it every time I walk in there, not only for the great, often unique selection and friendly advice, but often to "check on" the kittens and cats there that they have rescued. I just read the review written by Christina G about trying to adopt a kitten at Pet Cottage. The staff strive to find the most appropriate home for each cat or kitten rescued, and it often takes some time and multiple interested people to sort through. There were literally dozens of people who were interested in this particular kitten. I'm just sayin..... they do incredible work rescuing and caring for cat moms and babies, and I for one am exceedingly grateful. read more

Our French Bulldogs eat Shinto's Pet Food. Normally I pick it up at the Marin Farmers' Market, but wasn't going to make it this weekend. Online, I found that Pet Cottage sold Shinto's diet, and called to see what they had in stock. They were very nice on the phone, and double checked that they had what I needed. A few hours later, I drove down to San Anselmo to pick up some food. There was ample parking available with easy access to the store. When I went inside I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have a large assortment of pet supplies, to include fleeces, and our favorite treats, (bowwowbiscotti!). Only been in once but they had a great selection of special needs dog food for my inbred animal. No really my frenchie has a skin problem.. Poor little guy, and the pet cottage has a LOT of limited ingredient dog foods. Toy selection is a-ok also. Only beef is customer service could use a little suggestion box. Please get off the phone when you see a customer wandering about. I could have used a little guidence picking out food especially when most of the bags don't have prices on them.
