Poppi

Today Dr. Hunter treated my 15yo cat for an eye problem that caused continual rubbing. I had been to this clinic many years ago with my dogs. Today the concern and care was superior to treatment of my cat I've received from the Cat Clinic, also in Mill Valley. She got care that was very much like the level Dr. Wehren dispensed at the Adobe Pet Hosp. In Tam Junction. Very gentle people. Thank you for taking care of Poppi's eye issue and her nails. We will be back in the future.

Lucky wants to get in to see Dr. Hunter right now!

We love our Mill Valley Vet as much as our Dog, Lucky does. As you can see from the photo, he can't wait to get past the reception area to see Dr. Hunter. She really gives him great care and he's a healthy 12 year old puppy thanks to her and her terrific staff. Everyone here has great attitude and skills.

Dr. Hunter at Mill Valley Pet Clinic is awesome. She has been taking care of my two labs and one cat for 8 years now (well the oldest is 8 years old). She is empathetic, practical, straightforward, knowledgeable and compassionate. You can trust both that your pet will be cared for with kindness and that you will get the straight scoop on treatment and options. I kept going to her in SF after I moved to Marin, and am stoked now that she's in Mill Valley. If you are looking for a vet to entrust the care of your furry babies to, she is the best.

Bean, alive and well thanks to Dr Hunter
Celie H.

Dr. Jessica Hunter has saved Bean's life not once, not twice, but three separate times now in his 12 long years. Most recently, she diagnosed and intensely treated him for Pneumonia that the emergency vet had completely missed over the previous weekend. Within two days of care with Dr. Hunter, he was a new dog, back to running and playing in his yard, after being on death's door, coughing and unable to breathe normally. When Bean was 5 years old, Dr. Hunter discovered and treated an infiltrative lipoma that other doctors had missed. After his surgery, she found us a wonderful physical therapist and made a special ask for them to fit us in, though they weren't taking new clients. She is an absolutely extraordinary vet, always going above and beyond for pets and their families. When she moved to Mill Valley Pet Clinic, we followed her there, even though it's an hour further for us. She is worth it! And the service at Mill Valley Pet beyond Dr. Hunter is so great, too. One tech I spoke with on the phone went out of her way to get us signed up with a food subscription so that we didn't have to keep picking up Rx food. This team is awesome! Highly highly recommend!! Thank you for saving little Bean!!

thanks doc for helping me feel better - Im a furry fan

I recently reunited with this clinic and Dr. Comilla. I've moved all over Marin in my 25 years here and always try to go to a well recommended vet closest to my house to reduce my pets' stress. Moving back to southern marin, i had an opp to see dr. comilla again. I was reminded how kind and patient he is during the office visit. He's gentle with the animals and doesnt rush you through a diagnosis. When I used his services 12 years ago, it during my first experience with a beloved pet passing. They were very gracious with me during a difficult time. They are not the most inexpensive vet I've used but I dont mind as the office is clean, no odors like some others I wont name plus the staff is nice, easy to get an appointment. I'm just hoping he doesnt retire soon.

Jessica Hunter, DVM -- now at the Mill Valley Pet Clinic -- is the most kind, compassionate, smart, and communicative vet we have found. She is wonderful with her patients, and caring about their people, too. My tiny rescue kitten needed surgery, and Dr. Hunter spent time with me before and after the surgery, letting me know everything I might expect. She was very accessible to me afterward when I had questions, with such caring that I was moved to write this. She has a modern veterinary education, and experience at a busy practice in the City. She is a welcome newcomer for pets and their people in Marin. I tried 3 other Mill Valley and Tiburon vet clinics before landing here, and I now know that we're in good hands.

My girl, Santolina Nell.

My dog had her second TPLO surgery at The Sams Clinic, at age 10.5. Naturally, I was nervous. But I…read morehad been through TPLO with her before. I had taken her to OakVet, for that surgery. The humans at OakVet did a great job; I just couldn't face taking my dog back, because she became so scared of the clinic in the course of the surgery and follow-ups. I also didn't like the OakVet setting, under a busy freeway--any little stressor makes the process harder, with a TPLO. So I turned to The Sams Clinic. (It's in lovely Mill Valley, where I could walk my dog in a peaceful setting before and after appointments, helping to calm her nerves and mine.) Dr. Sams exudes warmth, sincerity, and experience: just what an anxious, sad pet parent would want when facing a huge surgery. I never doubted that my dog was in the best hands, with him. Dr. Sams prioritizes safety. He would not operate on my dog unless I had her heart checked first. Although this added another $1K to the expense, I felt confident that he valued my dog's safety more than another surgery fee. I also felt more confident, going in, that my dog could handle the sedation, with the green light from cardiology. The supporting staff of nurses, technicians, anesthesiologist, and others at The Sams Clinic are top-notch. My dog fell in love with Hope, who was so kind at every stage--to both my dog and to me. Again, when you're already going through a dreadful surgery, you want someone like Hope in your corner, equally skilled and kind. Kim, who schedules the surgeries, was also excellent. She managed the logistical side--scheduling the surgery and follow-ups, ensuring that I knew what I needed to do to support my dog's success before and after the procedure--with expertise and clarity, down to strategizing with me on how to safely get my dog in and out of the car so as not to injure the post-op leg. My dog is now 11.5. She is running and playing on her surgical leg. Though she has arthritis, that's because I waited to do the second surgery, not wanting to put my dog through it unless I had to. When it became clearly necessary, The Sams Clinic made it as smooth and reassuring as possible. It was expensive. But the certainty that my dog was in the best of hands, during her surgery and the long night afterward, made it worth the cost. Thank you to all at The Sams Clinic.

It's been two months since Gabby's surgery, and I thought it was time to write a review…read more I did a lot of research before choosing the right doctor for her ACL surgery. I lost my first dog on the operating table when I was much younger. Back then, I was young ,trusting, and I believed that any licensed vet could do the job. That experience was deeply traumatic. for Gabby, I looked into almost every clinic that performs this kind of surgery in the bay area--read every review on Google and Yelp, sometimes multiple times. It came down to three options. The first one was close to where I live. We went to check it out. It felt more like an emergency room--very professional, but also very clinical. The doctors reviewed Gabby's case like it was a project. Not necessarily bad, just not very personal, at all. The second one was more budget-friendly, but had mixed reviews. The doctor said there'd be no pre-check or consultation--just bring Gabby in on the day of surgery. That didn't sit right with me. Then there was Dr. Sam's clinic. It's not the closest, and while not the cheapest, the price seemed reasonable--and now I could see why. When we went in for the first visit, Dr. Sam sat across from me. Gabby was lying next to me at first, then got up, walked over to him, and laid down by his side. I almost cried--it felt like Gabby made the choice for us. The consultation was very thorough. They even followed up on an old heart murmur diagnosis just to be safe. We tested her pee twice because fitst time the sample was small (i didn't manage to get much of her pee). Everything was explained clearly. The clinic was clean, everyone was kind, and organized, and the energy there just felt good. It felt like they really care. After surgery, I had questions, and they responded quickly every time. Today, we went in for the two-week checkup, and Gabby is doing great. They've been so cautious, so caring, and clearly experienced. I honestly feel lucky that Dr. Sam was the one to operate on Gabby. I'd recommend him and his team to anyone. He's an angel--and so is everyone who works there. Thank you!

You pay a membership fee for Modern Animal, but that covers exam fees all year and also gives you 24/7 access to chat, call or message them through the app. The app gives you access to all the information you need ie lab results, and what screenings are due for your pet at any given time. We found the experience to be wonderful- it was easy to book an appointment through the app, easy to have questions answered, and the visit at the vet was great. The nurse and techs who helped us were so kind, skilled, and sweet to our dog. And Dr. Sindell was great- she is thoughtful, smart, and also was so gentle and loving to our dog! I also was thinking of buying her flea/tick/heart work meds online, but found that the price they charged was exactly the same price as the lowest that I had found online! So we got her meds there. Overall- a great experience, clean clinic, the app makes it all easy to navigate, and Dr. Sindell is wonderful!

Dr. Dowell and His Team Are Worth Every Penny!…read more Where do I even begin? For approximately four years, we've been bringing our girls, Boogie and Mai Tai, to Alto Tiburon Veterinary Hospital, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Dowell and his incredible staff. The staff? AMAZING! Kind, compassionate, professional, patient, and genuinely caring. And Dr. Dowell? Simply exceptional. His extensive experience, medical knowledge, attention to detail, and dedication to his patients are everything you could ask for in a veterinarian. Now, let's address the million-dollar question: Is it expensive? Well, welcome to Marin County! Everything is expensive, including veterinary care. Could I save $50 by going somewhere else? Probably. But here's how I see it: I'm not just paying for an appointment. I'm paying for experience, expertise, exceptional care, and peace of mind. And knowing my girls are in the best possible hands? That's priceless. I'll save those $50 at the grocery store instead. Our dogs are family. Their health, comfort, and well-being are not areas where I'm willing to compromise. Dr. Dowell and his team have earned our trust, respect, and gratitude over the years. We absolutely LOVE Dr. Dowell! Thank you to everyone at Alto Tiburon Veterinary Hospital for taking such wonderful care of Boogie and Mai Tai. Five stars. Without hesitation. Every single time.

I do not trust this vet. The front desk person is lovely. Absolutely lovely. The vets are suspect…read more I switched here for the convenience--closer to home. Multiple odd experiences, but the final one that sent me packing was when my cat was acting odd (clearly something was wrong). He was sensitive on his tail and hiding, cowering, and avoiding us. The vet did some poking around manually--maybe 2 minutes total. When he couldn't determine the cause, he suggested all the tests--blood, urine, x-rays--and left the room for his tech to present them to me. That was it. No more vet. $1200! Nope. He never said anything like, "Based on what you're telling me, I think it might be this." Or "When cats are in pain, they hide." Or "Here's what we can do, given you don't have $1200 to spend." Nope. I don't have $ 1,200 to run every test on my cat, who very likely was in a catfight. But I do have $200 to get a quality vet check-up and get a good opinion from an expert. I opted for the pain reliever. Days went by. No change. I called them back. Spoke to the lovely front desk person. I got that she couldn't do much--her hands are clearly tied, though her heart is all good. I transferred to my old vet. She did exactly what I would expect a vet to do: "Sounds like a fight. Even if I can't find the puncture wound, I can feel a bump, and I think an antibiotic injection is a good next step." $200 later, and my cat is feeling better (actually, $400, because I had the useless Alto visit). Finally, when Alto gave me a $50 pain reliever, they were out of the full prescription, so they cobbled together a mix of 1/4 feline, 1/4 human- or dog-sized, and the remaining 1/4 they asked me to return for when it came back in stock. I picked up the remaining 1/4. I asked if I could exchange (or simply get a replacement) for the large pills so I could have a full prescription of feline-sized pain reliever, but they offered to charge me for them. Nope! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLINIC. I couldn't put my finger on it during the year I was with them, but I'm now sure it's just not the place for us (and maybe not for you).
