This is the best, most wonderful clinic for cats . Dr. Innes & staff are remarkable. They've taken care of our male and female siblings since we adopted them at 4 months old. Avoid This Place Having a bad experience 7 years ago, we decided to try again. Bad idea. Made a 2 pm appointment; arrived 10 minutes early. We waited. And waited. No one was at the front desk. At 2:50 pm, we left. Cannot believe what horrible service this place gives to its customers and their sick cats. We left and made an appointment at our regular vet. The Cat Clinic isn't my primary vet simply because it's a bit far from where I live, but we had an urgent situation with our kitty last week. Our regular vet couldn't see him for several days, and I knew an emergency clinic would mean hours of waiting for a low-priority case. The Cat Clinic took him in immediately as a walk-in. The vet was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and they did exactly what was needed to resolve his digestive issue. They're even open on Saturdays - which is like finding gold in a vet clinic! i have been going to Cat Clinic for years and have always had quality care at a fair price. Dr. Innes is a cat whisperer that is amazing and cares dearly for any cat that walks ...err, unwillingly hauled.. through the door. I considered switching to another cat clinic because Mill Valley is a tid bit far from where I moved, but after a recent scare, Cat Clinic was able to help me see my cat in a pinch and I am firmly willing to suck up the extra distance. Why? I was worried that my cat was refusing food, and literally no clinic in the Bay Area was able to see him on the same day. Not only was Dr. Innes able to fit him into his schedule, but he did not insist on 50 cat (or CAT) scans or bloodwork tests that would assuredly cost an arm and a leg. He simply felt around my cat's abdomen and neck to check for pain before determining that he probably just needed an anti-nausea shot to get my cat feeling fine about eating kibble again. Sure enough, my cat was right as rain in no time. Love Dr. Innes and will come back in the future for sure. read more

This vet clinic is beyond fabulous. The key is that Dr. Innes is interested in providing good vet care. Dr. Innes's approach is commonsense and conservative, looking for the most appropriate treatment rather than the most expensive and invasive. We are fostering two cats for a friend and I thought we were going to have to put one of them down. My friend had spent several thousand dollars on treating this poor cat. Kitty eats constantly but has still wasted away, even after being treated for hyperthyroidism. Instead of running a zillion expensive tests, Dr. Innes asked some intelligent questions and prescribed B12 shots and digestive enzymes. Within a few days, we could tell she was better. She has started to gain weight, the digestive upsets have calmed, her fur is better and she's feeling friendly again. We ran into a problem getting a prescription filled and had no trouble getting support and follow up from the front office staff. read more

My cat can be a bit hard with vets because she gets nervous, but Dr. Dave handles her with confidence and extreme care. You can tell he really cares about the animals he works with. The front desk employees are very nice and costs are reasonable. It's first come first serve, which is actually very helpful so you don't have to wait days for appointments. My cat has had two anal gland surgeries there and is healing great. As long as I live in the area, I will always be coming here! read more

I do not know where to start to describe how great the MV Cat Clinic, run by Dr. David Innes and his awesome staff, is. My little geriatric cat Maxine, had a huge tumor on her eye lid, something the Doc was a bit surprised to see. He decided to remove it but could not guarantee the best outcome. Today, her eye has healed fine and even though she's got a little "Pirate" look to it, she is a happy camper. Then two months later he removed a mammary tumor from her stomach. She was 16 at that time and the Doc was concerned about doing two major surgeries in such a relatively short time. I gave my okay and it went extremely well. He was amazed how nicely she responded to treatment, how she handled the entire procedure and her demeanor seemed to be very calm, like she knew and trusted him. On Saturday, 8/4/18/, she suffered a stroke in the morning. I called in and Doc Innes took her right away, diagnosed her, gave her some injections and today 48 hours later, this old cat is back on her feet, albeit very wobbly, eating and drinking on her own, using her litter box. There's a lot of work ahead of us to get her back on track but Doc Innes is the most knowledgeable, compassionate and caring Veterinarian, specializing in Cats, I have come across to this day. He called me today to see where Maxine is at regarding her recovery and he decided to give it a few more days before bringing her in for another check-up. If you have a cat that needs treatment of any sort, please go see him and his staff! With that said, any owner who says his/her cat was/is traumatized because it was shaved for an injection should see their shrink and request a case of Zoloft. My wife and I took our cat here a couple months ago because he was having problems with his bowel movements. From start to finish, our experience was much better than we have ever had from any other vet. Not only did we end up learning about a solution that works, we also learned so much more. Dr Innes educated us for 30 plus minutes about the possible issues and possible solutions. It's so refreshing to visit a vet that: 1) Is specifically for cats only. Every vet I have been to in the past seems to know nothing about cats and everything about dogs. 2) Does not try to constantly sell you products and tests you don't need. It seems like every time I would visit the vet, I would end up leaving $500 dollars poorer due to all the recommended tests and unnecessary products they up-sell you on. 3) Actually cares about your pet and doesn't treat you like another dollar sign trying to get you in and out as fast as possible 4) Recommends foods and products they actually use, and disregard the products that companies try to bribe vets to recommend (I'm talking about you hills) 5) Does not require an appointment 6) Are actually personable and friendly. Cat Clinic in Mill Valley is amazing and extremely knowledgable. They only focus on cats and are incredibly experienced. Usually, past vet clinics I've been to try to get clients in and out and don't seem to know hardly anything about cats. However, Dr. Innes spent about 45 minutes with us examining our cat, and explaining what he saw and solutions. I learned so much during that time! Also, it is true - Dr. Innes seems to be a cat whisperer. Our cat who gets pretty stressed out, was cool as a cucumber during our visit. What is also great about Cat Clinic is you do not need an appointment to bring your fur baby in. We brought our cat in when it opened and he was the first one in for the day. Also, the cost is definitely reasonable and I was appreciative that there wasn't any up selling on exams or anything. I highly recommend this place if you have a cat you need to take in to the vet. I took my cat there twice (4 years ago). Once to treat an eye infection and another for a broken tooth. The eye infection the Vet seemed rough with my cat and not at all tuned into the stress/discomfort of the cat. I felt uncomfortable watching what he was doing. I've seen eye exams with other vet's but this was noticeably forceful. The second time my cat fell off a high ledge and broke his tooth in half. They had to put him under in order to cut the broken tooth off. When I arrived the receptionist made a passing comment "we almost lost him." I was alarmed and confused by the comment. I asked more questions and she said they had to "work" on him a while to bring him back to life after being put under for the procedure. He is a healthy 5 year old. The vet didn't mention it when he came out to tell me next steps in after care. I never went back after that. I had them send the protocol they used on him to my new vet. She was concerned with the anesthesia protocol and said it was an outdated protocol. read more

Not only are the vets here wonderful for cats, making observations about their personalities, they are also great with people and have to be with a lot of finicky cat people. My teen recently got frustrated as we adopted a brand new rescue kitten. She was convinced that the fur baby had "roundworms" just like our 5yo cat used to have. He didn't correct her, just gently suggested that the medication he was prescribing was for tapeworm, for both he eventually said. Only later did she realize her mistake and that the medication was correct... so she got to realize it in her own time... I certainly am not that skilled... we would have gotten into it, possibly bickering about who is right... The other point is that the atmosphere of the clinic, 1970s unchanged, is one of the last bits of old Mill Valley, and I love that. I like the idea that his son will carry it on even when dad retires I hope. Sweet people. Even if I move I will still bring my cats here. You can also consult his son about poison arrow frogs and reptiles, as he is a very knowledgeable animal lover in general. I was there one day when a sweet woman was picking up her cat's remains and grieving, and again, like people have said, there was such an empathy and a kindness from the staff as she grieved and talked about her little best friend and all the good care they had given him over the years... I can't even imagine what it will be like to lose my little familiar.... but I imagine they will be kind in breaking the news... Okay last thing, in an emergency I took my cat to a clinic out of town, male cat with crystallizations..., and they recommended all kinds of unnecessary stuff... with a very high price tag, and Dr. Innis was able to cut through the bs and tell me, oh that's a fancy antibiotic but you can just do this and your cat will be healed. Gold! My bill went from 655 to about 150. He gives what is medically necessary and doesn't pad anything. Better for the people, the cats and the pocketbook. Refreshing and I love that!! I think they are up there with the Bay Area best... and they have earned my respect, many times over. read more

The last time we brought our kitty to this clinic, they gave her the wrong medicine. We took her in to treat constipation caused by obstruction and they charged us $200 for diarrhea medicine. This time it's a different vet who's probably in his 60s or 70s (I forgot his name). Not sure if I would hand my cat to them in the future. read more

We love the Cat Clinic! Dr. Innis and his staff treated our feisty cat just as well as he does our sweet docile cat, even though she is a handful to treat (I am sure they would agree this may be a bit of an understatement.) Our cat was probably within hours or less of dying, just days after turning 12. I was certain she wasn't coming home, but with quick reaction and care, Dr. Innis brought her back from the brink. And we were pleasantly surprised when we got the bill that we didn't have to take out a second mortgage to pay for it. Cat clinic. What can I say? I love the vet, but hate their "no appointments" practice. Despite calling ahead, the wait time to be seen for the vet is 30-60 minutes. Sometimes, if the waiting room is full, it means hanging out with your kitty in the car. And really, who has time for that?! Amazing... 6 Stars. I have had cats all of my life, and I have been to a lot of vets in Marin. Some have no appointments available; some rely entirely on the assistant for communication; some are still making you wait in the car, and only telephone contact; and worse, the vet clinic who only has two part time people and neither one called us back after testing because the paper work got lost... Much to my surprise, I feel so lucky to have found this place. The doctor handled my cat better than anyone else ever has. Kitty was not scared, and totally under control. Doctor was thorough and went through all possibilities for treatment and what he thought was going on and not going on. I was so surprised at the low cost - so much joy for me. I wish I found this doctor earlier, as I have been driving four hours away to a vet who actually takes some time and loves his patients... so happy to now have a local option. I am so grateful .
