Woman-owned and locally-owned sweet little pet boutique! I was in the area walking by, and as a dog lover, I can never pass up a dog shop. They carry leads, harnesses, Teckleclub rain coats (the best!), toys, treats, dog & cat food (including our fave SmallBatch), and more. And everything is neatly arranged. I had a lovely conversation with the staff member about the best toys based on the size of our pups and their needs (our one pup is a toy destroyer!). Took home a seemingly-indestructible, sturdy lobster toy, and my pups love it. Of course the destroyer ripped a hole in it within an hour, but so it goes in our house. I love going out of town and checking out doggy stores. The biggest draw for customers will be the natural food and treats. Top brands that we've eaten in the past. We even took a treat home that we actually ate. It's rare to find a good one. In the front we were greeted with a 59% off basket and found a little collar that's just right for us. Go sf Giants. Wonderful little dog store in downtown San anselmo, well the only one. The woman that owns the place is, I believe her name is Stacy, is so welcoming and always remembers our dog even though we're sometimes infrequent shoppers. We tend to stop in as needed for treats and just when walking around downtown since we live nearby. She carries all sorts of high quality treats, has some of the best toys, and looks to have a great selection of food. I still tend to get food online because it's cheaper, but there's nothing like supporting a local business. I guarantee if you just walk in you'll find something, if not a few things you'll want to scoop up and buy. Oh, and they have the most amazing dog beds, not the cheapest, but our pup LOVES it and going on 1 year it looks nearly brand new still! read more

I treated myself to a birthday present from Dogville a couple weeks ago. Yes, that's correct, I got MYSELF something from here. And yes, my dog is wearing it. Everyday. I splurged on a Bella Bean collar and leash set - "Who Wants A Walk". It is so stinking cute and fabulous I smile every time I see it on my boy. If he could talk, he'd tell me how much he loves his collar and leash set too. We also got a hilarious stuffed squeaky rhino, which was on sale. Still have lots of love for the owner too - she was there with her "crew" of daschunds sporting skull and cross bone sweaters and a bull terrier aka The Mayor of Dogville. Could not be a more fun bunch there. I will happily spend way too much money here on many, many more occasions. read more

I can appreciate that for dog-owners, this is a great resource in San Anselmo. However, as well as being completely averse and sensitive to animal cruelty of any type, I am just as averse and sensitive to portrayals of animal cruelty. Whoever is responsible for the window displays at Dogville clearly does not share the same sensitivity and I am concerned that easily influenced passers by might take those portrayals as acceptable behavior. Examples: Hallowe'en display showing a dog tied down to a gurney with electrodes attached, an effort to show a Frankensteinian canine. Christmas display suggesting that squirrels that have been run-over and deer that have been shot are all an acceptable part of the 12 days of Christmas (or whatever). I understand that these displays are meant to be humorous but they miss the mark. I am one of the most difficult people to offend but when it comes to animal welfare, don't mess with me. read more

Great shop for dog lovers and owners, they have neat selection right now of holiday stocking stuffers and gifts for pets. I don't own a dog but have 3 chats . As you approach this store you think that there must not be much to it since it is so tiny! But as with San Anselmo itself it is packed with surprises and many great finds for your pooch! All of them meant to be of the best quality for your k9 friend. To say the person working is friendly and helpful is understatement since she was so easy going and bright and cheery is was as if you were seeing a friend not a business person! She is fantastic! As you look around you find items that are unique and items that are consistent with other stores. You can see and feel the love from the owner of the shop throughout your visit. This is a pretty top notch store with great organization, lots of variety to choose from in all categories a dog boutique has, wonderful friendly service, and a professional touch that ties everything together. We checked out this store this past weekend while we were exploring Marin County as a possible place to call home. Of course that encompasses dog stores. Brought in our two scotties and the owner and her kids were immediately on top of them, overflowing with compliments. I'm a sucker for compliments for my dogs. A bit of caution though, if you're not in the mood for conversation, you might find the level of attention off-putting because they wanted to know all about them. The store isn't huge, but it is a very decent size and has everything a dog owner could want. As some yelpers have already pointed out, they have a large selection of collars and some that aren't very common either. Food selection was good with some very good brands, but none of the ones I usually buy like honest kitchen or ziwipeak. I can't remember which brands, but i'm sure there was Merrick, BG, Wellness, and others in that class. They also had a good table of bully sticks and other chewable bones and the like, which is what we came in for since driving around with the guys in the car tends to be super boring for them. Also a good number of stuffed toys for the dogs as well. A couple other people came in the store that were regulars and they all got the golden treatment, so I don't think it was my charming personality that wins me so much attention. The location is really good on San Anselmo with lots of stores and cafe to poke around. It was raining the entire weekend so we didn't get to check out that many of them. As an added bonus there is a park on San Anselmo you can walk to as well, which is great if you're looking to give your dogs a break from shopping. I don't have anything bad to say. Parking is limited to street and maybe it can be hard to find a spot. We didn't have a problem. Not too many baked goods as some other dog boutiques, so if dog cupcakes, fancy cookies, and the like are your thing you won't find the best selection here. The standard obligatory selection of cat related items as well, which I guess is good that they're there, but not great if you're looking for a ton of cat products. Cost is about where all the other stores are, but they have the friendliness to keep me coming back if I lived in the area. There isn't any over the top things to put this store in the elite category on my list, but it is far better than many others I've visited. I would recommend this store to anyone in the area and to anyone visiting, I think it's worth stopping and seeing San Anselmo along with Dogville. read more

A major reason to live in San Anselmo or at least visit often: Staysea Colteaux's big, warm heart and amazing knowledge of what is best for dogs -- their food, equipment, treats, toys, and training -- and best for their humans. Staysea's Dogville is home away from home for our dog, Pippin, who stops in there almost every day to hang out, often with at least three or four others. When we walked into the crowded shop with Pippin a year and a half ago, she (Pippin) was a raw little rescue, pulling at the leash, hyped and nervous around other dogs, a struggle to control. Staysea excused herself from a conversation with a friend, came over and asked, "Would you mind if I took the leash?" and within a minute--I'm not exaggerating--Pippin was sitting, looking up at her, waiting for whatever Staysea wanted her to do next. No magic here, just Staysea's love and sympathy for animals and her profound understanding of their relationships with each other and with humans. She has even managed to train us to bring out the best in this wonderful dog. We rely on Staysea for nutritional advice on Pippin's food, for toys that will survive a pitbull's attentions, for collars and a harness, even a stylish doggy raincoat, and certainly for the always welcoming, lively, human atmosphere at Dogville. In every sense Staysea is Pippin's godmother. You will probably hear the same from many other people who rely on Dogville for their pets' well-being. In short: Dogville is a unique treasure. I am a complete novice when it comes to dogs. I know nothing. This became a problem when my husband and I fell in love with a little black pitbull and didn't know what to do about it once we got her home. This was a recipe for disaster. Luckily we live in San Anselmo and were familiar with Staysea, the owner of Dogville. Staysea has the biggest heart of anybody that we've ever met. With her vast experience and loving patience she has taught us all how to read each other's signals. We live in a happy, dog loving home. Yay! We stop by Dogville almost every day now for exotic treats (alligator bones, kangaroo jerky, doggy ice cream or Pippin's favorite elk tendons) and we have learned that raw food is the best thing that we can do to provide our doggy with a healthy life. I love the toy selection and have purchased many a dog collar here. The card selection is beautiful and the owner really seems to know her stuff. Everything is upscale and quality! I like this store....it's totally cute and definitely for the upscale dog. I bought the cutest little cashmere sweater (I know, I know) for my dog Jack...he looked sooo cute! AND NOW, a year later, it's 1/2 off! I recently purchased the cutest cable knit sweater for only $22 and it's so well made. Has a harness hole, and the inner side is high enough so he doesn't pee on it. It's perfect! read more
