I never find it useful when staff tell me certain dishes are "good" and "their favorite". I appreciate the sentiment, but a little more description would be good. What's the flavor like? Why is your calamari unique? etc, etc. I had the Tuna Tartare and Calamari for appies. The tuna was decent, but no real character. I eat this daily in LA and Vegas, and almost every restaurant has their unique twist. Eva's is decent, but vanilla. The calamari is as good as expected for Boston- a city I consider as among the best in the country for this dish. You'd be surprised how many cities (even Los Angeles) can't get it right for such a simple recipe. Eva represents. I like that. The tuna sandwich was a disappointment. I love seared rare tuna sandwiches- something the West coast has mastered- but here, the bread overpowered the tuna. In fact, I don't think I was able to actually taste it. It reminded me of my first date with the hottest cheerleader in highschool, who turned out to be the worst kisser ever. Her name was Susan. I think i'll rename their tuna sandwich "Susan". I'd rather you add a couple more bucks to the price, and pump up the tuna, then ever re-order this disappointment. I'm willing to come back and try other menu items, but only if someone else invites me.

Sabina Mezcaleria is a cute, cozy restaurant with impeccable, genuinely warm service and absolutely incredible food. We always prefer eating at the bar--it feels more personal and less transactional, and we've met so many wonderful strangers that way. Last night reminded us exactly why we love it. Luis, our El Cantinero, took us on a spectacular journey through the world of mezcal and tequila. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about what he does. We learned so much from him about tequila and mezcal, and he made the whole experience feel like an adventure rather than simply ordering drinks. And then came the food! I had the Enchilada Mole, and the mole was beautiful--deep, complex, rich, and perfectly balanced, without that powdery quality you sometimes find in lesser versions. The Chicharrones were enormous, thick, and cooked perfectly--almost melting in your mouth while absolutely exploding with flavor. Then came my favorite: the Empanada de Maíz. We had the one with chicharrones, beans, and mozzarella, and I almost cried. Seriously. SO flavorful, with this delicate little crispy coating on the outside that made it extraordinary. From Luis and the bar experience to every plate that came out of the kitchen, this was just an exceptional evening. Warm, intimate, delicious, and memorable. We came up from Providence by train, and Sabina alone is worth the trip. We've found a new Back Bay favorite--and we will absolutely be back!

I can't say enough about the duck rice as well, it was the perfect texture, full of flavor, just fantastic. And for dessert, the Tarte de Natas again blew my mind. I've had them before but what made these special was the caramelization on top of the creaminess of the custard. They validate parking under the highway around down the street, so it's easy to park. The experience was so positive that I went back for an anniversary dinner last summer and again had a fantastic meal with great service--and a special "Happy Anniversary" menu--such a nice touch.

Jaime took great care of us all night and struck that perfect balance of being attentive without hovering. The cocktails were the only thing that didn't completely win me over. The sangria and Paloma were good, but the Abuelita's Espresso Martini is tequila-based rather than a traditional espresso martini. Not bad, just different than expected. Overall, I'd happily go back. I've been a fan of Davio's and its owner, Steve DiFillippo, since his original location on Newbury Street back in the 1980s. While I've enjoyed the other locations that have followed... all serving the same excellent food... the Seaport location possesses a setting that's truly special. We got things started with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and a terrific selection of appetizers... Chopped Romaine Salad with green beans, chickpeas, egg, tomatoes, Niman Ranch bacon, blue cheese... Tuna Tartare with avocado, citrus ponzu, and Davio's signature herb pasta chips... Oven-Baked Lump Crab Cake with whole-grain mustard sauce... and an assortment of Davio's famous Spring Rolls, including Philly Cheesesteak, Chicken Parm, and Buffalo Chicken.
