My partner and I needed to find a new dentist after moving to Oxnard a year and a half ago. I researched and this dentist seemed good and the first couple of visits were fine. The office was impressive with very modern equipment and excellent covid protocols (which I'm sure are getting passed on to the customers). It seems to be an office of all females, which is fine, but makes me wonder about fairness in her hiring practices. There's also a lot of Spanish being spoken, which is good for Spanish speaking patients, but it's unnerving having people speaking in Spanish around you and not knowing if they're talking about you or what's being said. Are they discussing my private health information? Making fun of me? The last time I went in she had put up a bunch of "award" type documents on her lobby walls, but if you look at them closely they're all dated the same day, so she likely paid to go to some kind of event where everyone got documents signed by legislators (including the Mayor of Oxnard), which is far from being impressive (especially from the Mayor!). She clearly wants unknowing patients to think it's impressive, though. Dr A-Buell herself is a bit abrupt, doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humor. She did not attempt to get a copy of my medical records from my prior dentist. On my first visit I told her about some ongoing pain I was having with a cracked tooth. I told her my prior dentist had put a patch on it which had come off. She didn't offer to put the patch back on, she just said they would watch it. Second visit, she didn't even bring it up. Third visit, all of sudden the pain was due to a cavity on that tooth. Ironically by that time, the pain was less so it struck me as odd that now out of the blue I had a cavity on that tooth that she hadn't seen previously. She later told me that my "symptoms were not frank." Huh??? I explained EXACTLY what the problem was, the history of the tooth and what I was feeling. So clearly she wasn't paying attention if she thought I wasn't "frank." They also take x-rays every single time you go even though the American Dental Association and the FDA came out with recommendations in 2012 that for patients with no clinical caries and not at increased risk for them, x-rays should be taken at 12-24 month intervals. NOT EVERY 6 MONTHS! Another way of scamming patients that goes against the advice of her own industry standards! Her excuse was that they have "seen an uptick in decay on patients due to changes in diet and medications." So she thinks lumping all of her patients together and treating them all the same is a good thing. They also coat your teeth with this horrible fluoride stuff that makes it feel like you have dirt stuck to your teeth all day. I've never had this at any other dentist. But worst of all, they just put it on you without your permission! And I'm sure they're charging us for it! I was never once asked if I wanted it, nor was my partner. Also, they have a wonderful computerized appointment system that reminds you of your appointments. But then, on 2 different visits, I was contacted telling me it was time to make an appointment even though I had already scheduled appointments! That of course freaks me out because I think that they don't have the appointment and I'll have to now make one and wait longer. But apparently, they did have the appointments and the software was glitching. So then my partner goes right around this same time and comes home and tells me that Dr A-Buell has told him that he has 12 cavities! WHAT?? How is that even possible to get 12 cavities in the 6 months since the last visit? How is it possible to go almost one's entire adult life with very few cavities and then all of a sudden have 12???? I'm highly skeptical that he did and that she was just trying to make a good chunk of change. I see now from other reviews that others have felt this same way. So I wrote her an email and told her my concerns and she had an excuse for everything, then signed the email "Sincerely, The Toothfairies at Dental Designs." How professional. I went to see Dr. Buell looking online for some good dental work. Upon making my appointment I was contacted about confirmation and presented all paperwork ahead of appointment. Upon arrival I was greeted graciously and taken in for my appointment on time. The pre-checkup and X-rays were done painless and professionally. And the final consultation by Dr. Buell was done offering explanations of the work that had and would be done, leaving me walking out with confidence and security of picking the right Dental office. After my visit and dental work was done a couple of weeks later, I am absolutely pleased with the results and can actually smile again without being embarrassed of how my chipped teeth appeared when I did so! If I could give Dr. Buell zero stars I would. I went to see Dr. Buell for fast braces which I was told by Dr. Buell that the procedure would be 6 months and I would have the best smile. Fast forward to almost 3 years later and I still have braces and my teeth look horrible. My teeth are so flared out and have gaps in between some of my teeth (black triangles). On one visit she said that my treatment was done and tooth my braces off, good thing I checked to see how they really looked before I left as she left within seconds and went on to another patient. I pointed out how my teeth were flared out so bad and how I was not happy. Dr. Buell said "to give it time to settle. The next day I booked a appointment to have my teeth fixed. Dr. Buell gave me a whole plan of treatment and said that's she would put my braces back on and do IPR on the top and bottom of my teeth. That was never done, the top braces were put back on and that was it. And to top it off she said she would charge me for a retainer even though it was her mess up. I went to see her again this past week and she said that she couldn't fix my teeth and that's how they were and I needed to settle. I mentioned to Dr. Buell once again the plan she had to do the IPR and she said "oh I thought I did IPR on your teeth" that's how much she knows about her patients. She then lays my chair back and says okay so where do you want me to shave as if I am the dentist. I left the office and now I have booked a appointment with a orthodontist to have my teeth fixed. I would not recommend her to anyone. What a waste of my time and money. And she needs to know how to take accountability as she blames the patients or her staff. And by the way the only good thing about her practice is that the staff is nice. read more

The best of the best! Wish I could give more stars for awesome my experience has been! Dr. Buell is so kind friendly and so easy to talk with , she lets you know what she's doing step by step . Liz is my fav! She is so awesome funny and super sweet! Not like your normal dentist visit where you dread coming to , I actually look forward to coming in every 2 weeks! The place is super clean and a has a great vibe nothing like your normal dentist! You are ALWAYS welcomed with smiles. I was skeptical about trying the fast braces but I've had them on for about a month now & all I can say is WOW! No kidding they work! My teeth literally shifted over night & now I can see such a huge difference & it's ONLY been a month!! So I Definitely recommend Dr. buell , her staff and all of her services for anyone especially Fast braces! read more

Let's be honest, not many love going to any medical appointment. However, I can't say I have ever walked out of Dr. Buell's office unsatisfied. Back in late 2010 I was in desperate need a dentist and they just so happened to have an opening. Dr. Buell was able to recognize the severity of my case and was able to get me the help I needed. I've been a patient ever since! I really enjoy her staff, too. Everyone is very friendly, Dr. Buell included. Not only are they helpful but they're honest. I rather that than the run around. Well, a few years ago, I needed some work done and I was about to give up when I was told about Dr. Buell. Let me tell you something ! I'm that one person that HATES the dentist ! Dr. Buell is amazing ! I needed a tooth pulled about a year ago she talked to be about my options &' I made her pull it with no problems. This year I decided I want to fix my teeth. She gave me braces which are working wonderfully. She fixed one of my root canals that has been giving me so much problems. I've had treatment with Dr Buell and my root canal went well. It's been about 18 months now and I felt excruciating pain around that tooth. I work far away and went in for an emergency visit with another dentist. The same tooth Dr Marie worked on, got an infection and the root canal wasn't done correctly. My jaw was swollen and had to repay for her mess. Ive now been off for 3 days due to the infection. I would not recommend seeing this dentist. You are wasting your money. read more

Even though Dr. Buell is not a pediatric dentist, I decided to give her a shot, since I was going to be in the Ventura County area. The background is that my son, who is 8, had been traumatized by a negative experience with a previous dentist, but agreed to try to go here. She was so caring, gentle, professional, and quick, that he actually allowed her to work on him. It was an amazing experience, and we will definitely be back. If I could give zero stars I would. She definitely gets 5 stars for being the biggest crook in the business. If Dr. Buell try's to sell you on invisalign for TMJ PLEASE do not be fooled. Poor thing is so starved for business as a lot of dentist are she will do anything she can. Liz is awesome who I believe is her longest standing staff member. After seeing this Dr.(if she truly is an MD) I have to have reconstructive SX (surgery) for a simple root canal and a filling done by Mrs.Buell. Please beware! I would request Liz to do any treatments you may need and stay as far away from the so called Dr. if you can. Beware of the estimates she quotes through your insurance as you may receive a $1,000 bill later. read more

It has been a few years since I went to Dr. Buell. It was such a bad experience that I ended up going to my old dentist (an hours drive) instead of going back to her. I feel like she took advantage of my vulnerablity being pregnant and suggested I needed procedures or I would have problems carrying my baby full term. Also, the original reason I went to see her was because I had an infected tooth. When the antibiotics didn't work in the first day my mouth was swelling and my throat was also starting to swell. She made me come into the office on a Saturday, charging me an emergency fee, just to tell me to go to the ER where she said they would give me stronger antiobiotic that would probably make me miscarry. The nurses at the ER assured me that the antibiotics were no risk for the baby. Like I said, I haven't been there in a few years, but I wouldn't recommend it to my friends. (I'm writing my review now because I'm searching for a dentist in my new town and realized the importance of having good and bad reviews.) read more
