To preface this review, I've never actually tried the baked goods from here. However: we have a family friend that lives in Alexandria, and we constantly send her goodies from here (and she says they are all tasty!). The 5 stars is for the ease of ordering on their website. The first time we sent her a pie, I was thinking Doordash would be the way to go, but it was all individual pie slices, from restaurants and other businesses, and we wanted to send a full pie for her and her husband. I did some sleuthing on Yelp and Maribeth's Bakery came up. Their delivery fee is $8, for local delivery (Alexandria/etc.) through their website, which IMO is reasonable. So far we have sent our friend some full-size pies and also mini pies, and she has said they were all really good. Overall I would recommend this business, based on her review and also my experience with ordering from the website for her. read more

Fresh and soooo good! The fruit pop tarts are my absolute favorite. Each week at the Old Town Farmer's Market they have a variety of pastries. This week we bought Veggie Quiches, Peach and Blueberry and Strawberry Lemonade pop tarts. Delicious, flakey and fresh. Going to this bakery is the highlight of our Saturday trips to the Farmer's Market. The team working are focused, helpful, and knowledgeable. They have a customer for life. #HappyEating read more

9.02.23- I had the honor of throwing my first Sip & See... it's kind of like an adult, more refined baby shower. You get to see baby & not play those hokey games. I had a team helping me plan, but the task of ordering the cookies fell in my lap. Who knew securing a vendor for custom cookies would be such a challenge!! Cupcake bakeries are everywhere. This bakery came highly recommended from my friends at Rx Catering. I had a couple chats with the bakery and sent pics of what I envisioned. They eloquently told me what they could do for me. I appreciated the transparency and gave them the green light to move forward. Maribeth's has a 4 dozen cookie minimum. This bakery mass produces sweet treats. My order was ready at the agreed upon time & I got to meet Maribeth and her hubby! The cookies were buttery deliciousness. Definitely a hit among my guests. read more

AMAZING cookies! I was sent some of their spring cookies for my birthday and they were some of the best I've ever had. Loved the customized cherry blossom theme too. I also had a few of their pop tarts, which were huge and delicious. Maybe some of the best pop tarts in the area, with a huge variety of flavors from chocolatey to fruity. Prices are really reasonable here too and they deliver, which is the icing on the cake! Can't wait to go back. read more

MB (aka, Maribeth's) Bakery used to make appearances at the OT Alexandria Farmer's Market, and I didn't know that they had opened up their own little spot off of Colvin, offering baked items to-go! They offer various types of bread, cakes, cookies, pastries, pies, seasonal items, and even breakfast and savory goodies (quiches, homestyle chicken noodle soup, ham, cheddar, scallion scones, baked ziti, etc.). They also have 'day old' items that are marked 50% off. I had a Big Tom Turkey cookie, which was a butter cookie made with cinnamon fondant icing and tie-dye style tails - the cookie was buttery and thick, and I loved the cinnamon taste to them - YUM! I stopped by recently and also purchased another set of their tasty cookie (this time, it was 'Leave it to Beaver' theme - SO CUTE!), as well as their housemade 'poptarts' - definitely much better than the ones served at the popular chain of restaurants, as the pastry itself was flaky, had a great ratio of the icing, and the filling was SO tasty! I opted for the strawberry lemon, strawberry rhubarb, and the raspberry - they were very yummy! Staff were super welcoming and super friendly; note that this is a warehouse/kitchen site, so there will be a limited selection of items you can purchase. Just go through the double doors behind the usual parked van, left of the main building entrance - someone will readily receive you! Such a cute local spot, and I can't to try the rest of their deliciousness. +housebaked items +delicious cookies! +go through the double doors to the left by the driveway +friendly staff! +plenty of free street parking read more

Sweets are one of my weaknesses which is why I found myself at Maribeth's table at the Old Town Farmers Market for quite some time!! With so many pastries, pies, breads and cookies it was one hard decision to make. I wanted one of everything because everything looked so good. In an effort to not end up in a sugar coma, I got a few pop tarts, a few cookies, and a few loafs. While I did not taste anything until I got home, the freshness was there!! The cookies were soft , the pop tarts were amazing and I have yet to try the loaf but I assume it is just as delicious as everything else. Bring cash with you as if you need to use a card, it is a $10 min purchase. The gents at the stand were so friendly and worked efficiently to make sure no one had too wait too long. read more

I first found Maribeth's at the OT farmers market and loved to get their toaster pastries and wander down to the water front to eat them. I loved them so much I would take all my guests when visiting for my favorite Saturday morning tradition. Covid hit everyone hard but I loved the pivot that Maribeth's did to online ordering and pickup. I have never had a bad thing from them. Online ordering is easy and most recently I opted to pick up at the farmers market. Everything was ready to go for me. The cake we got was rich without being too overwhelming and just divine. I got a rice crispy treat too this time and I am not sure how they do it but it is the best rice crispy treat I have ever had. I love any excuse to order from Maribeth's because I know everything is amazing. read more

I ordered a substantial amount of bakery products for delivery for Thanksgiving. While I give 5 stars to the quality of the product, I cannot say the same for the shoddy packaging on delivery or the false promise of fresh-baked product: "Orders placed by 4:00 pm will be baked that night and ready for pick-up or delivery the following day (or a later date, if indicated at checkout)." All of my pies were delivered frozen solid, not fresh and stacked one on top of each other in a plastic grocery bag, not even individually packaged in a pie box. If I wanted previously-frozen pies, I'd have baked and frozen them myself. And if I had known the $200 worth of product meant having them shoved in a plastic bag, I'd have taken my business elsewhere. Please rethink your end-to-end quality and be honest about what you're selling. read more

Not only was the red velvet cake huge, delicious and fairly priced but I am inspired by this company and their ability to pivot during the pandemic. Meeting the owner and hearing about how the majority of their business disappeared when COVID came to town, and yet they didn't lay off a single employee was inspiring. Everything they had for sale looked amazing, and I can attest that the red velvet cake is better than my grandmothers (shh...) So glad I found this gem in my community! read more

***UPDATE*** MB went above and beyond to make things right. ********* This review is for MB's customer service. I'm a repeat customer. I place delivery orders every time I have company or special occasions. Most recently, I made an order of six toaster pastries to be delivered on my birthday--one order of Toaster Pastries #1 and one order of Toaster Pastries #2. I received a call from "Tom" the morning of the delivery. He said they didn't have Toaster Pastries #1 and asked if I wanted other flavors instead, so I asked for a trio of the fall flavors as replacement. But when the order arrived, I found that Tom had also replaced my order of Toaster Pastries #2 with the fall flavors as well, with one exception...one of the pastries was replaced with chocolate coconut (I'm allergic to coconut). I called Tom back because this was not at all what I had ordered, and I just wanted a refund at this point. Tom sighed and had me put the order back outside for someone to pick up. I've never heard of a restaurant/bakery wanting their incorrect food back. It wouldn't be sanitary for MB to resell those, so I hope they didn't. MB wanting them to be returned just seems petty. I am disappointed by the entire experience and by how MB would treat a repeat customer after they messed up my order so badly. Needless to say, I will not be ordering from MB Bakery again. read more

So far I have had MB's cookies (which are beyond beautifully decorated) and several flavors of poptarts. They are phenomenal!! We learned of this bakery on NextDoor and thought why not give it a try! That was three weeks ago and we've ordered at least once a week since. We get all our orders delivered to our doorstep. They have always been on time and they text to let you know your order has been delivered. The online ordering process is super simple. Now for the even more important part--the baked goods! The cinnamon rolls were AMAZING. The pumpkin rolls and carrot cake were very delicious. We keep trying new things but are most definitely going to keep the cinnamon rolls and carrot cake on regular rotation. For those looking for challah-the round challah was perfect. The buttermilk oat bread is perfect for sandwiches. We are so happy to have discovered this local gem. read more

Delicate Hot Chocolate…read more I have long been an admirer of fine hot chocolate. Traditionally, I would visit Starbucks or a contemporary coffeehouse, only to receive what often felt like mocha syrup blended with steamed milk--pleasant, perhaps, but rarely memorable. This morning marked my first visit to Tatte Bakery & Café in Old Town Alexandria where the hot chocolate proved to be an unexpected delight. The associate explained that it was prepared with semisweet chocolate and warm milk. Intrigued, I ordered a small and chose to enjoy it outdoors. The price was refreshingly reasonable, while the bakery's bright interior and refined ambiance created an inviting first impression. My drink arrived within approximately five minutes, presented elegantly in a cup and saucer. The temperature was perfectly warm--comforting without being excessively hot--and the overall presentation was quietly sophisticated but has room for improvement. Then came the taste.... The texture was exceptionally silky and smooth, with no grainy residue, excessive sweetness, or bitter aftertaste. It was rich without being heavy and indulgent without becoming overwhelming. Even better, it left behind no awkward crown of foam. I have enjoyed hot chocolate in Sicily, where the experience was quite literally a cup of melted chocolate--decadent, dense, and almost dessert-like. Tatte's interpretation was more delicate and restrained, yet equally satisfying in its own way. Tatte has now earned first place in my personal ranking. There is, however, still an opportunity to elevate the service experience. A cloth napkin and small spoon presented alongside the drink would add a more polished touch, while a subtle soupçon of finely shaved chocolate would enhance both the visual presentation and the final sip. Overall, I award Tatte's hot chocolate an A-. I look forward to seeing whether it can achieve an even higher distinction upon my next visit.

Let's face it. I like Tatte a latte!…read more Beautiful pastry case, inviting treats, Parisian-style cafe. It's a bit inconvenient that you pay at the counter but pick up hot drinks at the bar. Not an afterthought coffee situation at all--actually good enough that I'd come back just for that alone. What really stood out though was the staff. Super friendly, all smiles, really personable. I think the guy who helped me was named Avery--shoutout to him for making the whole thing feel like a neighborhood spot instead of "just grab dessert and leave." Bottom line: this is one of those places you end up going back to "just to try one more flavor," and suddenly it's a habit. Eh, I found this place to be just okay…read more The inside is small with some neon lights. Late on a Saturday night, there's a mix of regular folks, parents with small children getting a weekend treat, and folks with the munchies who just *have* to have a cookie. Biggest complaint - there are several TV screens, but only one has pricing, one has drinks, and the other was just random shots of stuff they sometimes have. I wish one of them had "current cookie offerings" (it rotates) because otherwise, you have to wait until you get to the front of the line to see what there is, and then people are waiting for you to make up your mind. It just added pressure to what is supposed to be an enjoyable cookie experience. It's not a cheap place (it's a bougie dessert place in NoVa; what do you expect?), but the monster cookies are large and filling and easy to share. We got a half dozen for our family of 5 and that was plenty. We even got an Oat Milk brown sugar tea - it was fine. The whole place is vegan, which does add to the price point, but if that matters to you, this is a good place to get your cookie on. That said, I don't know if it was the lack of egg, or that the Monsters were under-baked, but I found those large cookies just heavy. The two I will vouch for were the chocolate chip (classic, can't beat it), and the cinnamon roll - I kept coming back to that one. The rest were pretty meh. Service was okay. We had to wait for the next batch of chocolate chip cookies to come out of the oven. I get it, though it took longer than estimated. The weird part was, in the whole time we were sitting waiting (and everyone else had ordered), the clerk handed me my half dozen box and I had to remind her of our drink. Sweet, but spacey. In the end, if you like fancy cookies and/or vegan sweet treats, you might want to give this place a try. Otherwise, you can get plenty of other desserts along King Street.

So Sunday morning, I pulled up to Ben'YaYs with the whole crew ready to see what the hype was about. When we walked in, there were already a few people inside, but it wasn't overwhelmingly busy. The young lady working the register was absolutely wonderful. She was patient, attentive, and even let my son take over the ordering process when he started telling her exactly what our family wanted. One thing I really appreciated was her recommendation when I started ordering multiple individual orders of beignets. She suggested that we get a box instead, which was actually the better deal and saved me some money. Listen, I love when somebody helps me spend less money without me having to ask! We went with a box of the original beignets plus two orders of the cinnamon sugar beignets. Since we got the box, we also got three dipping sauces. And if you have kids under 10, you already know that anything they can dip is automatically more exciting. Our order came out pretty quickly, and let me just say... THESE BEIGNETS WERE GOOD. Like, everybody was already talking about coming back before we had even finished eating. Four of the five people with me had never had a beignet before, so they had nothing to compare them to. But I've had beignets in New Orleans AND locally, and I can confidently say these held their own. Light, delicious, covered in that glorious powdered sugar, and the cinnamon sugar ones were a fun addition. The front area is on the smaller side, but thankfully there's a back seating area where you can actually sit down and enjoy your food. That made a big difference with my family. And let's talk parking because this is important! Street parking is pretty sparse, especially on a Sunday during church hours. Thankfully, there's paid parking behind the restaurant. I paid about $3, which was well worth not driving around the block 17 times looking for a spot. Would I come back? Absolutely. The kids are already asking when we're going again, and honestly, I'm not mad about it.

Love, love, LOVE this place!…read more We ordered a dozen Ben yay's and all the sauces: vanilla cream, chocolate, raspberry, and strawberry. My daughter bought them one time and brought them home - and they are not the same as eating them freshly made at the cafe! You have to eat them fresh!!!
