Kuromi vanilla cake w image added.

I've gone there and the cakes taste amazing as always. The lady in the front gave me ideas and options I can request for the image I requested which was very helpful. It may look rundown but TRUST ME! It's a hidden gem! Had to lower the rating bc my birthday cake mangos felt and looked old. Decoration wasn't how I wanted but it was okay

Happy birthday to me and my sweetie!!!

Very consistent. They make a great white cake with strawberries. It's classic great for birthdays weddings anniversaries whatever. They're able to whip it up for 30 people in 2 to 3 hours. That's pretty darn amazing. Obviously you need to call and make sure they're not overwhelmed with business, but the last two times I got cakes for them. It was the best got plenty of positive compliments on how good the cake was from so many friends and family who tasted it. What else can you ask for? People who work there are very nice, accommodating, and really just down to good people. Support them.

Love love them! We have been coming here for over 15 years. We love their traditional cakes but recently we have brought them pictures of simple designs we would like on the cakes. Never disappoints! They are not known for their cake designs but more of how good they are so we know we can't expect fondant cakes but so far 10/10 all flavors are amazing!

2/3/22 From the outside, with its metal curtain/gate facade, it certainly looks unwelcoming & unappealing. This store has been a community fixture for so many years & it is well known in the neighborhood to boast many yummy delights. Been patronizing this bakery many times over the years, passed by it many times before back when my mom worked at the old LAC-USC county hospital-yes, that huge monstrosity of a building that stands over all of Boyle Heights! Never disappointed in my purchases & has fed the crew, both dayshift & nightshift, with many wonderful & aesthetically pleasing cakes. As I entered the premises (wondering how many years it has been since I've gone in), the kindly lady behind the counter asks what she help me with. I told her that everything looks so good & it might some time to decide which to purchase for the crew. I've been meaning to drop off a special piece for the ortho department at Keck Med. Center of USC (nursing unit, 6 North) for the wonderful job taking great care of me. I have to make sure to bring something for each shift (knowing fully well that nightshift doesn't get much, usually only leftovers from the day). Everyone MUST know, the nightshift has a special place in my heart, don't ever think that all patients are asleep at night-in fact, a lot of unspeakable things happen at night that makes the crew even more stellar. NOTE: bring a separate piece for nightshift** Many of my fellow/co-workers buy from Maria's for our unit's special occasions: birthdays, baby showers or for just enjoying sweets. You can call ahead to order or try your luck & get one that's already made from their fridge. The staff there has been very patient & accommodating. As I mentioned before, it could definitely use a makeover (from maybe 29 years ago LOL). It looks very rundown, otherwise it could've earned an extra star. Overall for the taste & aesthetics of their cakes: 5 stars for sure! Can't emphasize enough--CASH ONLY.

    Vanilla cheesecake.. yum!

I love this little bakery! I have been coming here for years and was first introduced to this bakery by my mom who used to work at LA County. The cakes are tasty and fresh. They fill the cakes with a lot of fruit if you choose a fruit cake. We love to get the mango since they fill it with mango in and out. I also love that the cakes are not sickeningly sweet. Just remember, this place is cash only so don't forget to hit up the ATM before coming!

My mom & I have been buying cakes here for years. I went and bought a cake for someone and they realized that there was mold on the strawberry. I went back the next to tell them. The lady told me I should've brought the cake back. Basically no refund, but another cake. I wont be going back. 85 degree bakery on Main st it is!

LOVE LOVE LOVE !!! Cake was soooooo good !!!

We went on a weekday around 11am and there was still a good selection of pastries, but sadly some were sold out already. elderflower rhubarb danish (4.5/5): one of their brunch specials and it was delightfully tart but sweet at the same time. the flavors really balanced each other out. passion fruit cruffin (4.8/5): my favorite from this visit. you can really taste the passion fruit and it was tart and sweet but not too sweet. very balanced flavor. if anything I wish they had added more passion fruit. garlic chive knot (4/5): another one of their brunch specials. also pretty good but I just wish there was more garlic and chives. the flavor was more mild than I'd prefer but it was still good. parking: small parking lot but there is street parking options available. seating: good amount of outdoor seating I think shared with the rest of the plaza but it wasn't too busy when I went. **when adding an update to my 2025 review I accidentally removed the original pastry photo from then so I had to add it back in **

Orange Blossom Almond Croissant -personally was disgusting, orange blossom was extremely strong. Too fragrant that it tasted like a floral bath bomb or soap. Some do like this but it wasn't for me. Tofu Cloud Croissant Toast -cream on top was pretty salted, to help balance the caramelized sugar that helps press the croissant into a toast. Overall, it wasn't wasn't bad but wasn't good and slightly too salted. Passionfruit Croiffin- texture of the croissant/muffin was great! Buttery, flaky and light. Passionfruit cream filling wasn't too sweet. I loved the tart passionfruit seeds. But you might want to scoop some out if you don't enjoy too much sourness. Elderflower Rhubarb Danish - way too crunchy, would prefer it to be crispy instead of a crunch. Filling was good, not too sweet. Black Sesame Parisian Flan -if you love black sesame, this would be right up your alley. Perfect sweet treat to bring to any auntie's home! Blueberry Tea Scone -not too dense. Surprisingly not too sweet even with the demerara sugar coating. It wasn't really crunchy but more sticky and caramelized from sitting.

I got a sausage bbang, a chocopie, and a dalgona latte. The sausage bbang was soggy on the bottom and honestly tasted like it was from the day before. The chocopie barely had any filling, just a thin layer of marshmallow and jam. It honestly felt like they used most of the marshmallow for their Dubai choco cookie because it's probably more profitable, instead of properly filling the chocopie. If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid. My total was $15.25 and I paid cash, but I was given $4.75 in change. When I said it should be $5, she seemed confused and asked what I meant. I told her I literally gave you a quarter right now, and she questioned it before eventually giving me the correct change. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a mistake. I understand times are hard, but charging more for products that clearly had corners cut doesn't sit right with me. It just comes across like there's no integrity. Clearly the quality and portions are going downhill. I wasn't even planning on writing this review. I was going to stay quiet, but the chocopie really ticked me off. I'm not going to pay for food that skims on ingredients and shortchanges customers by charging more for less, so this will be my last visit.
