LOVE LOVE LOVE this restaurant. The service is always spot-on and you are never left with an empty glass and they always offer you more chips and salsa. My favorite food to order are their Chicken Fajitas and my husband orders the Steak Fajitas. They are always sizzling and so fresh and seasoned to perfection. I keep saying I'm going to order something different but I keep going back to what I love. The desserts are phenomenal especially the Flan and the cheesecake. I'll definitely try all of them! Please give this restaurant a try as I assure you that you won't be disappointed. The other thing that I really appreciate about this restaurant was the owner was there on every visit overseeing the daily operations. My, my, my .................. I had high hopes of this place after reading some of the reviews. To be honest, my enchilada plate was not that bad (probably would have warranted 3 stars) BUT they seriously jacked up my plantains. How do you mess up plantains??????????? The were soggy, lacked the nice crisp edges, and soaked in oil. I tried to take them home and re-fry them, but they had been soaking in the oil too long and were just ruined. What a waste of $4! So, I ordered take out for lunch last week, and the chicken enchiladas were not bad, although I have had better. They did not have nearly enough sauce on them, the chicken was a little on the dry side, and I hated the beans. I would drive the extra miles and put up with the poor service from another reviewed restaurant on the other side of town before I come back here. read more

I've lived in Frederick for about 6 months, and this is the only restaurant that I've been to more than once. Very good Mexican and Spanish food, and I love their Margaritas! The atmosphere is a bit upscale, so you want to get a bit dressed up when you go here. The service is very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Really enjoyed our meal here! Service was prompt and attentive. The tables are set with starched white linens and cut glass stemware. The food was all quite good - Chiles Rellenos, chicken Fajitas, beef Enchiladas, and Poc Chuc Yucateco (Charbroiled pork tenderloin marinated in mayan spices, topped with red onions -- tender and wonderful flavor). My wife had a mango smoothie, and I had a margarita, both of which were excellent. Desserts of flan, chocolate mousse, and Tres Leches really topped things off. Portions were all plentiful, food was flavorful. The atmosphere was pleasant, but the decor is simple - not your run-of-the-mill Mexican-sombraros-and-ponchos-and-bulls. I came here once and it was good. Very nice inside and friendly. VERY CLEAN. Fancy place for special occasion. The drinks are better than the food. I think I've been to a better Mexican restaurant which is Santa Rosa at Route 40. But that's my opinion. I would come again only for the bar or party occasion. read more

Every time we come here, every single time, we get seated right away by friendly staff. We get chips and water promptly and within like a minute we get our drink orders taken. We come here at least once every other week! We are trying to cut back but this place never disappoints. The food is very good and so are the drinks and the staff is super friendly and professional. Best place in Frederick for Mexican. Follow them on facebook because sometimes they have the mariachi band which is pretty cool. read more

We are from Los Angeles where we grew up eating some of the best authentic Spanish food and this restaurant is by far the best Spanish food I've had since moving to Maryland. I've eaten here a few times. Sunday brunch was fantastic. Late night or dinner rush, crowded or empty, food and service has always been great. When I pick the restaurant (I usually defer to my wife), this is where we go. Tortillas are perfect, salsa good, Guacamole was very good, typical dishes (enchiladas, burritos, rellenos) are all done right. Portions are gourmet sized; not too big, great presentation, and delicious. Clean and friendly; more authentic than the chain Mexican restaurants. Not what I consider "authentic" Mexican (giant hot plates overflowing with cheese and sauce served by waiters that "no hablo engles") but better than the chains and as close as I've found in Maryland. read more

We came here for Father's Day dinner and made a reservation (party of 6). The minute we walked in I knew there was going to be a problem. No one at the front to greet, servers running around sweating. After a 5 min wait the owner greeted us and told us to have a seat, it would be a minute. Then proceeded to seat another 3 tables that walked in behind us. After a 30 minute wait we were seated. Another 10 mins until anyone came to table. The server was obviously stressed and overwhelmed. Another 10 for drinks. Another 10 for ordering (you get the point). Food came- 2 in the party had the special- ribeye and shrimp. Black beans were cold. Asked for medium rare and both were the rawest and worst cut of a "ribeye" I have ever seen served. Complained to the server. He was told to offer a dessert for the table to share? No offer to take EITHER entrees off the bill. Wow- this place is something else. I don't blame the server- he was doing the best he could under the circumstances. Will not be coming back. read more

In my opinion, Mariachi is the best place in the Frederick area for Mexican / Spanish cuisine. The food is always fresh and very consistent in quality. Customer service is always excellent too!! My husband and I love Mariachi's. We go there as least twice a month and have never had bad service or bad food. We have had several family birthday parties and they were great. We loved the place so much, we decided to get MARRIED there and they were fantastic and accomodating. It was a wonderful evening and everyone had a good time. As with many other reviewers, I expected a "Mexican restaurant" when I went here. They try to be upscale but have some very obvious things that make it fall short. The service was amazing. The prices are fair for the amount of food you receive, However, the food was bland and the best item at our table was our son's kid's meal taco. My wife ordered a chicken chimichanga and it was very plain and it seemed like they just used canned chicken. I ordered the rellenos and even though the menu says that one is a beef relleno and the other is cheese, I did not expect the beef to taste like plain boiled cubes of meat with carrots. Perhaps I'm biased after having lived in a Texas for 10 years and then thinking I could find decent Tex-Mex in Frederick, MD, but I'm not picky. Sadly, though, this place was a disappointment. We came on Father's Day following a Keys game. The atmosphere is fine enough--open setting with lots of tables, very noisy. The service was very, very slow. I think it took over an hour and a half for my family of four to be seated, served, and cashed out. That would've been OK, but the food was terrible. We ordered Chiles con queso and guacamole to start. The guac was great, but the queso tasted like cheezwiz. We had to ask for chip refills 3 times, and that was only when we could track someone down. My son got the chicken tenders, which looked awful and tasted freezer burnt. I had a shredded chicken burrito, which lacked any flavor and was served lukewarm. My daughter has the kids' nachos, which we're burnt, and my husband had the mar y tierra, which was simply fine. Overall, we spent $80 on some of the worst service and food ever. read more

A pleasant surprise! I've driven by this place for the last year or so and although being curious, I was never curious enough to stop in. So this week we did, for lunch, just to see. Forget the outside. It's fairly horrid, in a commercial/industrial area on 355/Urbana Pike, with a view of the construction yard across the road as you walk in. But once inside and past the rather dark bar area, the dining area is bright, clean, roomy, and actually rather nice. The decor reminds me of some of the more upscale Mexican restaurants *in* Mexico, not the tacky Tex-Mex places we have here, north of Rio Bravo. Normal artwork on the wall, not bullfighter paintings and sombreros! Food: This was the pleasant surprise. Actually, if you're looking for formula "Mexican", this is maybe not the place for you. The dishes seemed much closer to what we'd had in the Mexican interior. Lets start bottom up: Lengua con vino (if I remember correctly) was a bit tough, maybe cooked too fast, and no trace of vino in the otherwise good gravy, but I'd order it again. Juares platter with stuffed poblano was excellent. Tamales pollo with chicken and potatoes inside were as close to authentic as I've ever had in the USA (formula diners will be disappointed at the difference). Some sides: Platanos were standard stuff, and I have to wonder why they are always a starter and not a dessert, sweet as they are. Chips and salsa a bit weak; salsa seemed fresh and good, but it was too thin. Our waiter was efficient and friendly, and the overall lunchtime environment was quiet and relaxed. Nice, affordable place to eat lunch, as it turned out. We'll go back for sure. read more
