We moved into the area about a month and a half ago and started ordering from Marcello's. The food was good so we figured that we found a place we could depend on for pizza and subs when we didn't have time to cook. The experience was good until they delivered our food last week... The hamburger and pizza was very cold. We called and they said they would bring a replacement. This time, the pizza fine but the burger was seared on the top and bottom and raw in the middle. We called to speak with the manager and they hung up on us abruptly. When we called back, the manager got on the phone and swore at us. The next day we called the owner, who told us not to call back and our number was being blocked... WHAT??? The food is not good enough to put up with the people at this place. I've lived in Whitman for a few years and have never had Marcello's pizza so I decided to take advantage of the buy one get one pizza deal on Tuesday for the family. Went online to see the menu and saw that they now have online ordering. The promo for the pizza deal says no coupons and pick up only. I placed the order for two pizzas which would translate to 4 and select pickup. I arrive to pickup the pizza 20 minutes later and am handed 2 pizzas. I asked the kid behind the counter why I didn't get 4 since it's "2'fer Tuesday." He looked puzzled and said it's because I ordered online and it says online orders don't qualify. I said there is no place on the website that says that. He tells me to hold on and walks to the kitchen where there is a grumpy old man who looks days away from being dust. Him and another gem of a lady both looked pissed off and all I heard was it says you can't and we aren't honoring it. The kid comes back and tells me the news. I say, that's nice that the owner sees me and doesn't have the balls to come talk to me himself. At this point I now have the website up on my phone and point out to him that it doesn't say anywhere on the website that you can't take advantage of the Tuesday deal if you order online, it says you have to pickup the pizza which I did. He then turns to another kid in the kitchen for help with the matter and that kid told me he agreed with me but he couldn't do anything. I then pointed to the two gremlins in the kitchen and asked to speak to one of them. The kid walks in the kitchen and tells them I want to speak to a manager. Now they look nice and happy. They made me wait 5 minutes (I think they thought I'd just leave) and finally the female troll came out. I told her and showed her that it does not say anywhere online that you can't get the pizza deal if you order online and it only specifies that you must pick up the pizza. I told her I could care less about the price, but I only ordered 2 pizzas expecting to get 4 pizzas for my family. She then says "he" (the male troll who has the inability to speak to the customers a business like his relies on) will not give me the two more pizzas because the online ordering is done through door dash and he won't be reimbursed (apparently the $3 it may cost to make 2 more pizzas and maybe an apology isn't worth it to him to keep a customer ). I kindly explain to Shrek that again it doesn't say anywhere that you can't get the deal if you order online and that who runs their website is not my concern. I told her they need to reflect on the website that you cannot order online and get the deal because it's 2023 and most people order online now. She just shrugged her shoulders, said sorry and next time just call on the phone. To top it off, the pizza was horrible. A frozen red Barron pizza would have tasted gourmet compared to it. Fortunately, there are plenty other pizza places in Whitman with great customer service and excellent pizza so I'll still be able to support my hometown businesses read more

Ok everyone loves lobster rolls right? Well ordered the "Jumbo" lobster role for me and my son and soon learned Marcellos's version of a "jumbo lobster roll". First off it was $47.06 for the two, ouch! So this thing must be loaded right? What a ripoff, if you have any brains DO NOT ORDER this!! It had less lobster than papa ginos or even mcdonalds lobster roles!!! The lobster consisted of chopped up lobster to tiny small pieces that you cannot identify if its knuckle, claw or even imitation meat like pollock! Then we tasted it, first you have to remove the lettuce as that's all you can taste, then the roll has a weird crunchy texture that is almost vommit-inducing! My dog got 80% of both our "jumbo" lobster rolls, i learned and expensive lesson and they list a customer. You have been warned... Ps - their regular food is sub-par, and proves people will eat anything. read more

Best way I can describe this encounter is " funky", from the strange man on the phone who I kept having to repeat my card order to, to the woman who forgot my sauce, this was just an overall funky experience, my pizza has a strange after taste to it, idk if it's the sauce or the cheese, it just tastes weird, I also ordered onion rings with sweet and sour sauce and they forgot that, the calzone was not a normal calzone, it was a doughy mess with cheese, this was definitely a bad experience, I only got this because my gf was drunk and needed food, this was just not good. read more

Everything about this place is weird and sub-par. Example, when we first moved to the area, we received a mailer with coupons offering two roast beef sandwiches, or two cheese pizzas. In what situation do my spouse and I ever order two of the same thing?? Two sandwiches I get, but two of the exact same sandwich?! Kinda silly. Not a great way to introduce people to what you do. Well, this place touts it's roast beef prowess, and I do like roast beef- it's just about the only deli meat I'll eat- so I've ordered it from here. The first time, it was kinda meh. A little round roll sandwich with a huge pile of meat, and since I don't really like the standard "grinder" toppings, like pepperoncinis, onions, etc, I end up with a bare sandwich that I dress at home, usually with provolone, horseradish that's not been diluted with mayo, arugula, and avocado, if I have it. That said, if the roast beef is good quality, that bare sandwich is worth it's cost, even if I basically have to make it myself at home. In this case, even with all my additional toppings, the sandwich was not memorable. This past weekend, we ended up getting food from here again, and again, disappointment. I got a roast beef sandwich, and realized that the meat just isn't good. It tastes fooled around with, like they're using some kind of preservative or something, not like it's been freshly made and sliced thin to order. Honestly it tastes like it came from the supermarket and cost $3.99 a pound. If this is the best roast beef in town, I'm ready to go vegan. My husband got a steak & peppers sandwich, and it was disgusting. The meat was gristly and grey, and while we often joke that "marriage is a fartnership", this gave him such horrendous gas! This is like, back into the other room, fart, shake the waistband of your pants, stand there for a few seconds and prey the smell doesn't follow you gas. Sorry if it's TMI, but I'm hoping to save you from a similar fate. We also ordered french fries, and they were nothing special. Pretty sure they were the kind that comes frozen from Sisco, but at least they didn't taste like they were fried in yesterday's oil. I mean, they didn't taste like much of anything to speak of... but they didn't taste gross, for what it's worth. This meal for two was $22. Moral of the story for me, this place has probably survived for years based on being on busy Route 18, where there's frankly not a lot of competition. What you're getting here is meh quality food for prices that should excite you. Throw away the two for one coupon, and go someplace else. read more

Not much good to say, except the location is convenient. To start with, the 16 oz Bud Lite that was advertised was really only 12 oz, but somehow the price didn't get downsized along with the cup. Onion rings were said to be air fried, and were cold and totally tasteless- had no appetite for them. The chicken wings were the high point of the meal, but were also cold. This is the 3rd time i've ordered (in person or over the phone) and have been told it's 30 minutes (for 2-3 subs) and it ends up being closer to 50 minutes and then the food is lukewarm. I have never had a worse customer service experience. I called to order two subs for delivery. Received two wrong subs (no big deal mistakes happen). They said they were sending two correct subs back. When i received the next two subs they were weong again. I asked to speak to the manager. The 14 year old boy behind the counter put me on hold and then came back informing me " I am the manager, I just forgot for a second" . I then asked to speak to the owner who started screaming in the background at the top of his lungs like a complete psycho! Claiming he was " too busy to come to the phone! I have been a faithful customer of Marcellos, I mean, we order 2-3 times per week. Today was my LAST order. I called and ordered a salad with lunchmeat. I received a salad with lunchmeat and Tuna. When I called and asked about it, I was told they had LOTS of salads with meat like grilled chicken and buffalo chicken and I should have been more specific. (How much more specific can you get other than LUNCHMEAT?). Yes, I did say something like what idiot doesn't know the difference between grilled chicken and lunchmeat, to which they then hung up on me. (But I still stand by my statement, what idiot doesn't know the difference between grilled chicken, tuna and lunchmeat?) When we called back and spoke to the "Owner" (who refused to give us his name btw), he said something like I was told it came with Tuna (which I was NOT) and basically it was my fault. Then the owner hung up on us.. I guess the customer is NOT right. If you want a salad, go down the street to Casa Mia... GREAT salads and they actually care about their customers. read more

No one will ever mistake Marcello's Sandwich Shop for offering friendly service. At least I won't. The fact remains that as long as the food was good, I could look past the generally curt and zombie-like staff. Sadly, however, as others duly note, food quality deteriorated to the point where I will no longer go here . Whereas I use to enjoy Marcello's pizza, I do no more. The past few pizzas I ordered were undercooked, greasy, flavorless and, for all intent and purpopse, largely inedible. So, I now go to the Papa Gino's accross the street. My family and I have been long-term customers of this restaurant. Lately the service has gone downhill so much that we probably will not be back. We came here about 2 weeks ago and there were so many people waiting, the girl at the front counter told us that it would be at least an hour wait. For dine in subs? Yesterday we had an encounter with an awful manager named Bill and due to his rudeness and horrible customer service it will probably be our last time ordering from Marcello's. We have met the owner and thought that he really cared about his business. If he does he should probably lose this guy. I always seem to get very good food from Marcellos. Their pizza is one of the better places around, so if you go there for one thing, get pizza. They use a tomato sauce that is very tangy and creates a very nice combination with the mozzarella cheese. The crust is a little too hard (that's what she said) for my tastes, but I don't let that get in the way of ordering from there. It's a bit greasy, but you'll enjoy it nonetheless. Subs are good, but that's the case just about anywhere. Although they do use non "generic vegetables". They don't really have "stock" lettuce or pickles, it looks fresh and tastes fresh. The food here is consistently good. The pizza is the best around- the only one my picky daughter will eat!! I have had calzones, subs and salads here and they have all been good. The prices aren't bad either. They are usually great about making a custom order as well. The staff behind the counter can be hit or miss, especially when calling in an order. I really really wish I read the reviews before deciding to waste my money here. I do not understand how you can justify $13 for a microwaved steak sub. I really tried to like this place, I had been here hears ago, and it was pretty decent, WHAT HAPPENED? We both asked for toasted rolls, neither of them were toasted, the food was not hot at all, I have had delivery that was fresher than what I had eating in. Again, we were eating there, it was about half a minute between the time our order was ready, and the time I got my first lukewarm bite. Called and stated I didn't receive my food and they said "oh we listed it under pick up". It isn't to bad but not a go to place. I only order from here when over a family members house since they live about 10 minutes away and they deliver to their house. Calling them to order is a pain bc they ask me for my family members phone number that lives there versus the address because they look up the address to deliver by her number which whatever. Delivery time isn't to bad usually the food arrives with in 45 minutes from when I order, which is typical for delivery times. The food eh. The pizza I don't like at all, I got last time an Italian sub with no hots, no oils or vinegar and instead with mayo. Somehow though the sub was still super oily and like soggy/soaked. I didn't taste vinegar which I would've for sure bc I hate it, but I'm not convinced they didn't put some type of oil because there was no way the little bit of mayo on it was oily like that. Also even though I said no hots there was still the meat that is spicy which I had to pick out. Whenever I call other places and order it like that they know exactly what I mean and they don't put any deli meat that is spicy or banana peppers etc. they just usually put the cheeses and the salami and bologna etc. The only good thing was the chicken my husband ordered which is spicy but I usually like to eat a piece or two it's the gold fever fingers. I only eat if the place has creamy Italian I can order on side to dunk it in which they did so I tried them and they were really good. But to spicy for me to be able to just get and eat for a meal because after two pieces my mouth begins to burn. I was told by someone next time to try the steak and cheese sub so I will try it if I order from there again, but last two times I feel rushed over the phone and as I'm not being fully listened to while ordering. Like with the Italian I felt the guy wasn't at all listening to how I wanted it and just pressed the Italian sub button and couldn't be bothered with making the requests I asked. Delivery has always worked out well and when we have gone in for pick up I hadn't noticed any issues with customer service but yes it is a bunch of kids, like most pizza places.
