Iconic sub shop! If you live in the area or grew up here, you know about this place. It still has the very recognizable "Submarine Galley" sign on the building that I'm pretty sure is original from the 1960's! I always get the Italian sub with everything on it. It's overstuffed with lots of chopped veggies (the way they should be, not sliced!), nicely toasted and had plenty of oil/vinegar to give it that classic Italian sub taste. Oh and the prices!! I've been coming here for years. Absolutely disappointed. Charging $10 for a pocket and can't even fill the pocket fully with steak and cheese. Steak and cheese is burnt and mostly steak in a ball. I'm not sure if this is how they are saving money but looks like half a hamburger shoved in the bottom of a small pocket. The kid that answered the phone wasn't too pleasant either. Ordered an American sub and got back and opened it up and there was not one single piece of meat on the sub! Called them and they said there is no meat on an American sub. I have never in 50 years ever heard such a thing! Went back and they gave me a couple slices of meat and i had to finish making the sub!!! LOL NOT GOOD BUSINESS!!! Take note.... I hadn't gotten subs at this place for several years but stopped the other day after an appointment because we were hungry as hell. Was pleasantly surprised that it was still as good as it always was. The steak and cheese was delicious. They have always use the best soft rolls as I remember and that's a pleasant addition to any of their subs. The people are friendly and the minute you hit the parking lot you know by the luscious smell that you are in for a yummy and filling meal. Nope. Ordered a Chicken Cordon Blue sub. They substituted hard, burned bacon instead of ham without letting me know. There was no honey mustard, virtually no swiss and of course, less grilled chicken than there should have been. My friend's (less expensive) sub looked nice and filling, but this dry sub was feeble. Great food & service! You can't go wrong for the portions and prices! My favorite go-to sub is their Tuna Salad! Fresh rolls, whatever toppings you like. My second favorite is the steak & cheese. Yum! My only critique is that they don't have a Frialator so if you want a chicken parm sub, the chicken is grilled. Great steak subs. I never get cheese, but that's just me. Just a small place to sit down to eat, but still probably 7-8 tables. I like to eat there so that it doesn't get soggy or cold on the way home. Toasted bun, steak with fried onions and hots on the grill, mayo, and pickles is my go-to. About $9 for a large. I feel bad for leaving a harsh review, but I'd feel worse knowing that anyone came here and spent their money on the trash that this place serves. Sub Galley is probably the worst place I've ever gotten food from. It was so bad that we didn't eat any of the subs that we bought. This place should be called Mustard Galley because the turkey sub I got had soo much mustard on it, it was soggy & inedible. The food is good when they get your order correct, which for me is almost never. Of the 5-6 times I've ordered from here, I've gotten my correct order 1-2 times. It's a pepper steak with cheese. Literally nothing else in it...How do you mess that up? I've gotten mushrooms with steak, I've gotten steak no cheese and today steak and cheese without peppers. This time I ordered online so it prints out "steak&peppers" so there's really no excuse. The time I got the mushrooms which was totally random I called to tell them that it was wrong and they did nothing, they didn't care, they basically said too bad. Let me tell you all a story about a tuna "sub." Once upon a time... Okay, but really, you would think that somewhere on the job application for Sub Galley they'd at least ask if you have any prior experience dealing with people, but it would appear people skills are not a prerequisite for a job here, nor, unfortunately, is the ability to make a sandwich. I know... "How can a Sub Galley employee not know how to make a sandwich?" I know not, fair reader. I know not. Let's travel back in time to July, 2017, when I popped in for a quick tuna sub. Tuna with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions to be exact. No sooner were the words out of my mouth than the young befuddled girl behind the counter was staring at me as if there was NO WAY that much food could fit on one sandwich. Following an audible sigh like I was putting her out, she commenced to scoop four spoonfuls of tuna onto a sub roll, and then HEAP giant handfuls of lettuce, tomato, etc on top of it. I mean... these things were spilling onto the floor and slipping down the vegetable mountain she was creating, but she just kept piling on more. It was officially decreed Mont Tuna (in my head) by the time she turned around and gave me the "Is this what you wanted?" look... Needless to say, once it was wrapped up (weighing in at a gobsmacking 27lbs, I'm sure), it was 90% garbage can deliverables, which was a waste of approximately 26lbs of food, not to mention the other 5lbs sitting on the floor behind the counter. I went here in search of the best Italian sub as I had known this place was known for. Honestly I was not overly impressed. The sub was loaded with tons of diced pickles, to the point where it was kind of a mess to eat. Bread was soggy and the tomatoes were sliced very thick. The building itself is tired and old, and while not dirty it didn't appear to be shiny clean either. Service was polite but not overly friendly. Really just an "okay" experience all around. This place is amazing. The staff is friendly, the food is great and the prices are very reasonable. I have been eating there for a long time and everytime I am always satisfied with the food, prices and service. I do recommend trying their corn chowder. It's delicious. Locals apparently love this place and I honestly don't know why they do. I had an italian sub and a sausage sub. Never again. The meat tasted like it had spoiled and I only was able to eat two bites of it. The Sausage sub barely could be called a sausage sub, maybe 10 small pieces os sausage that tasted bland and chewy. Maybe it was an off night but it was very off putting to me. I had pictures on my phone but it's been so long since I've been that they have been deleted. I'm giving this place 3 stars only for the fact that they use cheap roast beef that is cooked well done and VERY fatty. Other than that their subs are great. They have by far the best pickles and hand cut tomatoes that make even the dry roast beef taste good. I recommend their Italian sub it's hard to find a better one in the area. Hungry after an indoor cycling class, I thought I'd try this badly located sub shop on the way home, and boy do I wish I hadn't! The parking spaces are very limited and it's due to the poor choice of location. The decor is bare, tacky, and just plain awful. The cheap signs littering the place in an attempt at humor was just as bad as the food. I order the simplest type of sub, a cheesesteak, that even I got right when I was in college. The kids there looked beyond bored and disinterested, not one smile and courtesy Hello.When I got the sub, it was too simple for words, which for me means that they took no pride in their work or food. The condiments were tossed on top as an after thought and had no integration with the food. The meat itself was frozen and still had an after taste after being "cooked". I do not like this place, and I've tried to go back and give it another chance a few too many times...Every single time I get my sub, it tastes like something I have obviously not asked for (or is even in) my sandwich. I feel like they dont wipe their knives clean between orders. Ive had slabs of tuna, mayo, and other things smeared on the cut of my roll every time.
