Wanted a good papusa and this place didn't disappoint. It's not a fancy place - so don't come with that mindset. (I waited in the car while my food was getting prepared). The papusas are large and the cabbage slaw is good. Will go back if I am in the area again! read more

When I first found this place years back it was great. The food is still good but the service is bad. Also they have raised their prices drastically but it does not reflect on the menu prices. Once they bring the check, they tell you the prices have gone up. Last but not least, the food has made me sick the last two times I have been there. The place doesn't look the cleanest and that doesn't bother me but the fact that I have gotten sick the last two times have made me concern. I'll probably go back again but if I get sick again, then I am done with this place. read more

Marcela's Chicken - Pupusas Revueltas - Peruvian Near Me - Temple Hills, Maryland

The food was delicious, everything is made by hand and with love. I only order the papusas and they are filled to the brim with fresh ingredients. They are big and served hot and cheesy The service is good, and attentive. The location is next to a closed down 7-11, so if you are looking for a glamorous place this is not it. Inside you feel like you have been transported to a Central America eatery, football (soccer) is on every large screen . They have a window in front for pickup orders and in the back is where you can find seating. Each table has its own set of condiments, nothing fancy just what you need a roll of paper towels to share. When in the area it's worth it if you want to have some good papusas. read more

Horrible service, food salty. Every time call to order the guy on the phone is very rude.

Fantastic Salvadoreña food Best Pupusas ever great prices. The place is not pretty but the food is amazing read more

I tried Marcelas off the recommendation of my girlfriend. I was originally headed to Sardi's until my girlfriend suggested this place. Although out of the way I was interested in trying and finding my new favorite peruvian place that could compare with my love for El Pollo Rico. I ordered a whole chicken and was charged $22 which is significantly more than what I am used to paying especially when a rotisserie chicken from wegmans costs less than $10 and Sardi's less than $15. The service was extremely bad and cleanliness was non existent; I really wonder when was the last time the health department has patronized this place as they were cooking food on the stove and due to high heat and no one watching the pots they were overflowing onto the burners causing flames. They only have two sauces here one green and one yellow The yellow is a sweet mayo not good at all; the green was spicy and yummy. I would not go out of my way to return, also I like my food hot and this was served cold. The chicken however was seasoned to perfection and done but still moist. I would love to try their sides. but cannot mentally do it with the grime and grit on the floors and the dirty glass. case they keep the food in. read more

Great place, food is so good & prices are phenomenal for the portions you get. Will be back

Good food! Huge portions! Very accomodating! This place has treated me well since it's inception. Whenever I want a taco, burrito or guacamole, I'm there. Also delivery time is also very short as well as the strain on your funds. Great food at great prices. Good customer service. Love stopping by! read more

I always orders pupusas and they do a good jobI haven't had no complaints since I started eating from there and I plan on continuing to eat there, thank you read more

I'm pretty picky about Peruvian food. I'm Colombian myself and spent time in Peru and fell in love with their cuisine. I tolerated Sardis and Pollo Loco because... what choice did I have? Y'all this place is sooo good! Hubs and I went there for lunch. Hubs ordered the steak especial and I ordered the lomo saltado. Portions are huge, and very reasonably priced and the food... the food is delicious! Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place is awesome! And you'll get leftovers!!! read more

Amazing! Both times I visited, I bought 2 carne asada tacos and a chicken & cheese papusa. Both are phenomenal. Best in the area! The first time, the tacos were served on homemade corn tortillas, and the second time they were served on store bought corn tortillas, but both were delicious. It seems a bit weird that they'd be served on different ones. Maybe they were out of homemade tortillas? They have "american style" tacos with cheese, sour cream, lettuce etc. or regular/Mexican/traditional with onions, cilantro, and salsa, so be sure to specify. The chicken in the papusa is amazing-- so moist and flavorful. I would come back and get the chicken if I wasn't so addicted to the tacos! Everything is so inexpensive! $2.50 for tacos! read more

Peruvian Chicken/Pollo a la Brasa has been one of the things that has anchored me to the Area. Unlike, speed cameras/parking tickets which try to push me away. In the past I have been gushing praise of some places and very critical of Sardi's as it positions itself in front. That is a roundabout or contextual way of explaining how I ended up at Marcela's. From the outside Marcela's looks like a take-out only spot but there is a very spacious dining room. The outside is pretty shabby and the inside is also shabby. So much so that I had no desire to use the bathroom to wash my hands before the meal. I did a couple of cycles of Hanitizer but with this flu season I ventured into the restroom. Honestly, I was expecting to lose my appetite but the bathroom was as clean as it should have be. While waiting for the food Marcela's was undergoing a lunchtime rush. Everyone working there was rolling and it made me want my food even more. Here it came. A quarter chicken with plátanos and yuca frita. Seeing everyone else's plates come out, I could see that if you are in the market for Salvadorian dishes, this could be your spot. As someone that judges the chicken by the sauces offered, to get a plate of sodium and friedness sin salsas me dío pausa. After asking, the waitress brought over a squirt bottle of green sauce. Not dissimilar from the green sauce at other places but still, not the business. The Chicken and meal as a whole was aight. Nothing too special. I wasn't moved by the sauce. I did like that the chicken was flavorful. Well seasoned and whatnot. It just wasn't beyond average. It wasn't pricy so do try it out for yourself. read more

All I can say is that I'm so happy to have a jewel like this in my neighborhood. The customer service was great and the food was tasty. I only gave this place a four and not a five because although it was clean the atmosphere in the seating area is not a place that I would want to seat down and eat. Just not cozy enough for me personally, only your basic tables and chairs. I could also tell that the beans are freshly cooked from the bag and although great in flavor just not as soft as I like them to be...but trust I ate them all. Now that chicken...MANNNN I ate that thang clean to the bone. Would I go back??? HECK YEAH!!! And would I tell a friend....HECK YEAH!!! So go support your local businesses and enjoy some great food. read more

I love the food here. I normally get the pollo guisado (chicken stew) and lomo saltado, both of which were so flavorful. I once got the steak platter and it came with a whole strip of avocado, how cute! I also got curious and wanted to try the 'horchata drink', which I assumed would be more 'milky'-flavored, but instead was surprisingly different (really did not like it tbh). It basically tasted like wheaty and grainy 'cereal-water' (best way to explain it) with a hint of cinnamon. I personally did not like it, but eh, it was worth the try, and the curiosity (now I know what it is)! read more

Was in the area and stopped at this hidden gem for a take-out order for an office meeting. The group running the place were very friendly and ensured that all of my order given over the phone was shown and packaged correctly. The amazing aroma from the Peruvian Chicken instantly hits you upon entering. The Chorizo tacos are amazing and pair great with the green hot chicken sauce. The burritos are easily the size of your forearm and got rave reviews from our group. The chicken is well seasoned and compares with the other solid Peruvian chicken spots in the area. Highly recommend! read more

My aunts restaurant is fucking amazing! And I'm not saying this cause she's my aunt, the staff and herself have like magical hands, they cook with a lot of love and don't rush to make sure the guests are satisfied and their food is done A1! read more

Best double cheeseburgers and Fajitas ever! Good seasoned perfectly. Everything is made to order and the salads are crispy also.

Awful! I went in to get the beef soup! Paid 13.00 for vegetable soup! They literally only put one VERY SMALL piece of beef in the soup. I went to take it back and of course they are closed. I WILL be taking this very expensive vegetable soup back tomorrow. I don't even want now because ITS NOT WHAT I ORDERED! I'll NEVER eat here again. I was very specific and they DID NOT come through. read more

This place is just okay. I ordered a 1/4 chicken with beans and rice. The chicken was a little dry and the sauces were watery. The beans and rice was good and the salad was a salad. The place had a steady flow of ppl but I found it to be just okay. I'd probably go there for convenience only. It was food satisfied my hunger but that's about it. The prices were reasonable which was the only plus. read more

This placed tried to charge extra for a fish that was a little bigger like it was my fault. Wouldn't go back

Review is for breakfast. Awesome menu with eggs, beans, rice, plantains and burritos all available. Salvadoran/Peruvian/Mexican. Not the quietest or nicest place but solid food and friendly staff. read more

My fiancé and I go from Peruvian spot to Peruvian spot, searching for the most flavorful chicken. We LUV Nando's, but Marcela's will make you drive from Laurel to Temple Hills several times a week, just for the chicken. I wouldn't care if I had sides to go with it its so good! If you love Peruvian Chicken, GET YOURSELF there! You'll love it! I'm a true foodie! I love to cook and eat and its very rare that I rave over a place like this. MARCELA'S PLEASE COME TO LAUREL! There's a new mall being build and all. I'm sure business would be great for you! I wouldn't steer you wrong. read more

Wanted something good to eat so I called in but.... Never picks up phone, called bunch of time. Nothing.... no one answered.

Don't expect top notch customer service. But who cares when the food is so freaking good!! Staff are nice, feels slow at times but am I commenting on food or ambiance? I'm focused on what goes in my mouth and damn it's good. It's those hole in the wall places that you don't want to tell people about to keep it safe from blowing up lol. You got Peruvian, Mexican, and Salvadoran food. Check it out. I don't imagine you'll be disappointed with eating. There are always people that don't like something but damn, I'm not the only person to give this place high reviews. They didn't pay me either for this. I'm a happy eater. But hey, if you wanna bless me with a discount Marcela's, I'll take it lol. read more

Steadily going downhill. I'm officially done. I'll stick with getting my chicken fix with don pollo or Chicken Rico in Waldorf.

We found this place based on Yelp reviews. It was off the hook good. Counter- service, dine- in, very casual. The staff was incredibly welcoming. The food was wonderful- made to order, tasty, huge portions, prices more than reasonable. read more

my first time and last time going to this establishment. The chicken taco's I ordered were not cooked thoroughly and not to mention when I ordered the cashier gave the police officer that ordered after me his food first. How unprofessional for you to do that. Then I get all the way back to work and realized you forgot my sodas! I spent 20$ on garbage! Everyone I know will know not to go here. & I will dispute the transaction! read more

The husband and i went here not to long ago and it wasn't much to celebrate about. They made us some shrimp quesadillas and he had 1 cheese and bean papusa. Wrong turn. Wrong directions. Person who answered the phone was also wrong. He can't answer the phone in a business manner. He would just say , yeah, yeah, yeah.
