Service was amazing though kind of slow. We were told that the kitchen was short staffed. Fries were horrible - cold and hard. So bad that I tossed them and made my own fries. Yeah they were that bad. Chicken was yummy and the mild sauce was really good. My sister had fish tacos and said they were ok and would have been better if they hadn't chopped the fish to smithereens. The store was very clean and very well lit. Where is Lima's? I stopped by one day thinking I was going to Lima's and I noticed something was different. It didn't click until I entered and I realized the name of this restaurant changed. Not only did the name of the restaurant change, but the prices are now higher and the food isn't as great. No more fried rice with egg, peppers, and chicken. Sigh! Charcoal Chicken is the same concept as every other Peruvian spot around...order chicken with sides to accompany it or burritos and/or tacos. The menu also offers other items, check it out if interested. They have dine-in seating or carry out. The food to me was just okay. Where this restaurant is located, it's a little out the way for me, so in the future, I wouldn't make a special trip to come back. The one positive is that they have a variety of sides to choose from, but if the sides aren't the greatest taste wise, what's the point?! Again, where is Lima's?! I want them back ASAP! read more

Charcoal Chicken - the outside of a restaurant at night - Peruvian Near Me - Bowie, Maryland

Like many who have reviewed this spot, I wasn't aware of the recent store change from Lima's to Charcoal Chicken. We were already in the parking lot...so decided to try it out. The inside is nice and clean and there was no line so we approached the front and were greeted very quickly and warmly by the cashier. We ordered the half chicken meal with rice n beans and plantains as sides. The chicken was good; hot, juicy, and pretty flavorful. I'd say its on part with most Peruvian chicken joints in the area. The plantains were just fine, no complaints there. The rice n beans left a little something to be desired; the rice seemed a little dry or hard and the beans needed some flavor. Overall, this spot meets pretty basic Peruvian chicken expectations; I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but when in the area I wouldn't mind grabbing a bite. read more

despite what other commenters said they do wear mask in this establishment and the staff is quite friendly. I Stay fairly close to this location and go at least once a week for their great food! The young ladies who work here and very nice and do "Muy Bien Trabaja " lol i hope i'm saying that right. But I love it here ! read more

So I'll admit, I wanted to give this spot a minus rating. I'm from out of town and choose this place because I was hungry for something other than a national food chain restaurant. Stepping in, it felt like the business was observing distancing protocols and tables were closed in support of this; employees were masked. But boy are they grumpy! I wanted to use the women's restroom but the light was out. When I told an employee she said Yeah, the light is out. No solution; no apology. My husband suggested I use the men's room, which I did. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. The same grouchy woman took our order. After about 15 minutes, we were finally asked what sides we wanted. End game: sanitation questionable, customer service non-existent, food decent but can't recommend. read more

My husband raves about this place and I had come here before when I worked in Bowie so I decided to choose this place over Sardi's... bad choice. The chicken did not have much flavor at all, the chaufa rice did not taste like chaufa at all instead it just tasted like bland fried rice, the mixed vegetables were soggy and tasted like plastic bag. The ceviche was pretty good, but had a strong perfume like taste to it. The sweet potato that comes with the ceviche was really good, the yellow/green sauce and the yuca was perfect. He thinks it's because we came in the evening and he usually eats there in the morning but I feel like food should be fresh all day if it's the same price all day honestly. This place SUCK'S, at one time it was LIMA'S but now it NASTY, DRY and BURNT to where it's undesirably NASTY. The Food is overcooked, the Green string Beans are mushy. It's clean, the facility, But the COOK SUCKS. They give very little food, a spoon full of rice and a spoon full of sides, not worth the price, the price of the food went up, and the attitude of the employees dropped drastically. I was driving around the area of Bowie and I was hungry. I saw this charcoal chicken place. And I said, let's check what these people have there. I order a whole chicken with two sides order. And fajitas. It was a phenomenon, wow. Fajitas were gush, real good. I was delightful.i mean, great flavored. I highly recommend this place if you want to eat food. They are correct. It looks the same when you walk in, and I didn't even realize it was no longer Pollo Limas until I got home and tasted my food. Just OK now. Not great like Lima's was. I see a lot of people in the reviews complaining about how it is no longer Pollo Lima's. Take those reviews with a grain of salt as people are very resistant to change. I've actually had positive experiences with the new management. The fried yucca is soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, very delicious! Pollo Lima's was often a hit or miss with yucca as they would come out hard as a rock or barely crispy. I have had no problems with the chicken being dry or anything like that. Other than those menu items, I don't know. Someone also said that the staff is unfriendly or doesn't smile? Rude, unprofessional staff. I won't be spending another dime here especially when there's a Sardis up the street. I ordered a whole chicken dinner and several sides thru ubereats, when it arrived i was missing items. I went up to the location to get the items, and was irritated at the inconvenience of having to do so considering I had paid for the convenience of delivery. Even so, I was very pleasant with the young girl in front and told her the situation. I asked for a courtesy small side for my inconvenience of having to drive back there due to their mistake after paying for delivery, and she had a stank condescending attitude as if I was just trying to get over. I asked for a manager, and the little girl continued to make smart comments, and the manager (i think her name was jennifer) said no you need to pay. No apology or acknowledgment for my inconvenience. Just as a comparison, BJ's once messed up my uber eats order, was very apologetic, and made the ENTIRE order over plus threw in a dessert for my trouble once i showed up. THAT is excellent customer service and a business that values their customers and reputation. Arguing with me over a small container $3 worth of STRING BEANS for my inconvenience that they could have threw in? Petty. They probably won't be in business long. Business like that never prosper in the long run, they don't value customers. The good part is UBER has decent customer service, and refunded my entire order when I reported the situation to them, which I would not have reported if the restaurant made an effort to make things right and was courteous. So in the end the restaurant lost out on more than a $3 small side trying to be petty. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and the attitude of the little girl up front?! WHEEWWW I don't know WHO she thought she was talking to. They won't see another penny from me either, Sardi's gained a new customer. read more

Pretty bad. Asked for a chicken cheesesteak no mayo(I try to be simple when I go out because I've worked in restaurants before) had tons of mayo on it. So I went back, asked for the correct order, and they put a ton of mustard on it. Change of ownership has killed this spot. read more
