Stopped by with a friend after seeing that they were open despite the fact that it was Christmas Day. I ordered 1/2 chicken dark meat, yucca, & rice and beans so I'd have plenty to eat then and leftovers for later. the guy didn't seem particularly happy to be there but I've been coming here for years and he never does so... lol but the food is good and it's cheaper then expensive ass Sardi's lol read more

King Pollo - the inside of a restaurant - Latin American Near Me - New Carrollton, Maryland

This restaurant has become the worst it has ever been. I've visited through multiple ownership changes, and it has never been as bad as it is now. Since turning into a bar/restaurant, the quality of the food has plummeted. It used to be a family-friendly place, but now it's not. I even saw a family get thrown out in the middle of the day, which is unbelievable. If you want a good meal and a pleasant experience, go elsewhere. read more

Worst type of customer service you will ever find, I came in waited 15 minutes to see anyone show up even after I called out to see if there was someone working, when 2 workers finally came out they completely ignored me. There are many times I've come here before but the workers are always rude and unhelpful, the food is amazing but the service is terrible. I hope they get this fixed. read more

Beware of this place! King Pollo in New Carrollton gives customers weeks old meat. The government should shut this place down. Disgusting. I just got my food and it's spoiled meat. I am filing a food safety report with Consumer Affairs in Maryland. read more

If there is a zero point to give this place, I will be happy. The worst rotisserie chicken place ever. Please fire your whole staff, but most importantly the chef. The food is bland, cold, and yuca is undercooked. I have been here before and hated the food, but since it was snowing today I was looking for the closet Rotisserie chicken place and when king Pollo showed up, I did everything to find another place but they were close, and by default I settled for this place thinking things has changed. What a disappointment, this place should close. read more

King Pollo - black beans and rice in a styrofoam container - Latin American Near Me - New Carrollton, Maryland

I'm giving two stars because the service was good and the seats are comfortable. The chicken had feathers left behind and was pretty dry. The salad was extremely flavorless...like crunchy water with ranch dressing. The plantains were undercooked. The side sauces were good however. GO TO SARDIS! I think the food there is much better. read more

I swear I've been here before forgot about it and had deja vu a la Teena Marie.... In a shopping center in New Carrollton, can't say that it is easily seen from the road. Kinda off to the end of the strip. Parking is good for the area. Once inside, nothing to write home about. I take it that this is the kind of place that you come and get take out, not sit down. Various options from papusas, quesadillas amd the like. Pretty decent offerings and a slew of sides to choose from. On this date, I got the family deal; this consists of a whole blame chicken, two large sides, and four canned sodas. This is all for the price of 19.95 folks. I thought this was a pretty dope deal. Here in lies my problem....most of the sides looked as though they had been forgotten about. The yucca fries were looking lonely under that lamp as were those thick 'ol plantain slices. The mixed veggies were gone and the yams looked as though they had seen better days. The sides that I decided upon: rice/beans which by the by counted as TWO sides. Um, where they do that at? Who eats rice without thee black bean... ...anywho, I digress and I got the greens. The chicken was good, but was a little dry IMHO. But the addition of the green sauce, pico, and those yummo pickled (I think) onions helped it out immensly. The greens were a bit underseasoned for my liking and even with the green spice needed more hot sauce to pep them up. How can one mess up thee black rice and bean? Regardless, you get a crap ton of food for a nice price. Pick your sides wisely and make sure you get the sauce (pico and onions) to pep up your plate! read more

Just ate there with my hubby . My chicken was under cooked. They were nice enough to switch it out for another piece. That one was also inedible . My husband tried to prove it was good and took a bite out of it only to rush to the bathroom 10 minutes later and throw it all up. Steamed vegetables straight from a freezer bag. Overly salted rice. Not great. read more

Food was not good, even side items like the rice and beans were cold when I just got them. The beans had no flavor and were undercooked, the rice had no flavor and was clumpy and cold. This is not what Peruvian chicken is suppose to taste like, it shouldn't be overcooked and dry. Seasoning on the chicken was terribl. The green sauce had some kind of weird aftertaste like it had gone bad and the yellow sauce tasted mostly like mayo. The quesadilla was the worst of all, just looking at it in the box you wouldn't even want to give that to your dog. My boyfriend tried a bite and said the meat tasted like it had gone rancid. This was a complete waste of my time and money. Ordered online and when I got there they had no idea an order had been done, I can forgive that because I am not sure how good their system of notifying them about orders is but the food is unforgivable and I can't believe a place is able to serve the trash that we received. I felt disgusted after trying to eat some of this. Maybe they didn't care because it was close to the end of the night but if you can't have good quality then close then don't serve and close the store. read more

King Pollo - This is a steak quesadilla.... well suppose to be - Latin American Near Me - New Carrollton, Maryland

I got some rotisserie chicken last night from them and not only was the chicken pink but the Mac and cheese was terrible, the only thing that was actually edible was the rice and beans. I tried calling the store 4 times this morning and no answer. I've been sick all night! Never eating here again!! If I could, I would give this place negative 5 stars!! read more

I was very disappointed with my experience here. My first time here was over a year ago. The chicken was ok (I've tasted better) and at the time it wasn't many "charcoal cooking" style restaurants in this area. I went a few days ago with my family for Gelato. We remembered that last time we were here the Gelato was very good. We get there and the place wasn't crowded at all. Now usually I don't go into race when giving my reviews but considering my experience I have no choice but to do so. Having said that if you offend easily I suggest you stop reading my review RIGHT NOW Seated was a group of guys. I walk in with my family and immediately we kinda feel out of place but hey it's not the first (or last time) we will feel this way so we walk on over to the display where you can see all of the colorful Gelato. Behind the counter are 2 guys. My kids start to ask if they can taste certain types of Gelato. The guy quickly gives us a little spoon to taste and immediately turns around to the guys that were on the side who had just interrupted us from talking to him. He never say excuse me to us...i'll be right back NOTHING. He than starts to fix cups of ice cream for other folks while we are clearly standing here waiting for him to finish helping us. My kids are saying excuse me to get his attention so we can try other flavors, FINALLY he turns back around looks at us like he has a attitude. I ask for a taste of another type of Gelato. He gives it to me....after that I was disturbed. It was very clear that he showed favoritism for the group of guys instead of me and my family. SMH this is sad and I hated that my kids had to experience that but hey it taught them a lesson on how to NOT treat people. No matter the color we should all be treated with the same level of respect that is given. ***This is a restaurant where spanish people cook, serve and come to eat. I am black and felt completely unwelcome at this place*** I will NEVER go back again. read more

Second time here within three years. I guess that says alot lol. Chicken is pretty good for it being the closest Charbroiled chicken spot around. Of course I've had better but it will do. I had half chicken, yuca and greens. Chicken was seasoned well, yuca was a tad but dry but good with the yellow sauce and the greens were good but better once I added sea salt. All and all I recommend this place for close Charbroiled goodness. read more

WOW...Phil B below must have been having a bad day. And so am i-work, comcast ..etc... But this place deserves 5 stars. No deductions for the neighborhood-and im a bit of a zipcode snob. And no deductions for the way the dude at King Pallo took the chopping knife to cut me off 1/4th chicken (i am an ocassional vegetarian with some chicken sympathy LOL). Sides were excellent. Plaintains ripened to perfection. Vietnamese street noodle almost sinful. Just wonderful and unexpected. BTW...I still don't think Pollo is a household food genre (look at me sounding all foodie lol)...but its a great place to mix up your food palette. read more

Why not Chicken del Rey? First, the King (as I call it) is very convenient to my work. That being said, I can count on King Pollo for a filling meal at a very reasonable price. Most of the time I get half a chicken with fried yucca.... yum! I especially like to dip the yucca in the yellow sauce. I also enjoy the greetings from the staff, always friendly as if you were their old friend from childhood. Yes, there are better Peruvian Chicken places. Yes, it is in an undesirable strip mall. Yes many of their sides are average (avoid the mac & cheese), However, the value and quality of food are excellent and I feel it is better than most Peruvian Chicken joints. Especially for the area, this place is great for a quick, filling, delicious, and inexpensive meal. read more

This place use to have great quality when it opened and the guys ran it. Yesterday I went there around 6:30-7:00 and two ladies were there. I ordered the usual 1/4 chicken and went to choose my sides (not knowing they were about to close) the other lady began to cut the lights off and I noticed all the spoons were in one big pan not rinsed or anything the one making my food picks one of those spoons up and said what side, I said can you rinse that spoon off please before you put that in my food, she changed spoons! I said no wash that before you put it in my food, she got mad and said ay yi yi! As if I was the problem. I said nevermind and walked out. I could've been allergic to something!!!!! If they don't know FOOD SAFETY they do need to work around food. Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! Unsanitary and lack customer service. read more

No a big fan of the chicken. I had it twice and both times I had to take it back because it wasn't cooked. The meat was still rare with blood. The Singapore noodles are phenominal!! I get 3 side orders of the noodles and eat it for days. My son loves it as well. He takes it to school for lunch. read more

Two thumbs up!! Great chicken and sides, especially if you are looking to feed a family something affordable, delicious and preferably not made by you. We go here often and always grab a whole chicken and 2-3 sides. Beans/rice combo is delicious and I like how they put both in the same takeout container so the beans can flavor the rice and vice versa. Yucca is real good as well. The only thing is that they're a bit stingy with their green and white sauces. Refuse to give more than 3-4 per FAMILY SIZE ORDER. WTF?! Other places I've never had trouble getting 5-5 per especially if I'm purchasing a big order. read more

I was getting tired of Bojangles and Popeyes fried chicken.. this is a welcome change. Good char boiled chicken and plenty of sides.

Please please avoid this place Ordered a chicken sub and fries for 9.99 no drink which is over priced and should of shown red flags. But i decided to try it out half way into my order being ready the owner or manager had a heated argument with a customer over a 3$ mischarge and that customers order the same chicken sub as i did and was being made about the same time when the owner/manager stormed to the cooked whispered something in his ear and the cook either replace the chicken with old chicken or put dish washer on it either way when i took a bite into it immediately spitted it out. Horrible taste, cold and only had 8 pieces of fries also the "combo" didn't come with a drink so i to run and get water to wash whatever i possibly consume. Got purposely contaminated food meant for someone else. For your safety avoid this place or while the manager/owner is there read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! Based on where it is located, I was expecting it to be a tiny, dirty place, with possibly okay food. I went here in the first place because it was recommended by a friend and it is close to home. When I walked in, the place was absolutely clean and the staff was very kind and welcoming. They have quite a large space to dine in as well. The chicken is seasoned and cooked to perfection! They also have a huge selection of sides to choose from. Between my family and I, we got their fried rice, mac and cheese, collard greens, and spanish rice sides - all of them were delicious! read more

I recently visited king pollo and loved to see that under new management the place is worth the visit. Their menu is extensive. I ordered their signature puruvian chicken with sweet potatoe, fried plantation and chick peas rice. Food was fresh and delicious. Place is very clean and family friendly. Plenty of space to sit and enjoy the food. I was glad to see that an old gem has been revived with fresh ideas and faces. I will definitely visit again with friends and family. read more

Nestled next to a liquor store with more signage than window space, and a "value city" - this place is in the strip mall of the lost. I had a fajita - of Chipotle proportions for 1/2 the price - and some plaintains (maduros!). Good food although the fajita was sloppy. This place was bright inside, with MVN2 playing a mix of American and Mexican music videos. There is a certain charm about the cafeteria like tables and the quick service and cheap prices. I'd recommend it if you're in the area but don't go out of your way to get there. It is probably about five minutes from New Carrollton Metro station (give or take). read more

Not bad. I usually grab quick dinner here when I'm too busy to cook or its running late. The Peruvian style chicken here is pretty good. When they first opened, the chicken was way more flavorful than it is now. There has been some staff turnover and what seems like new ownership since opening. Not the best ever but not bad-certainly better than Popeyes or KFC! read more

The food here is very good. The only issue I have is that some staff members seem to have a bit of an attitude when I ask for something with shrimp. (I'm a pescatarian). I understand that they have to cook it. I don't mind waiting... I never do. There is one gentleman there that was very accommodating. His name is Douglas. Today, I had to thank him for his great customer service. Again, the food is very good but they could exhibit better customer service. read more

Although the inside of this place was very clean and nice, it did not make up for the dry chicken and bad sides. I ordered white meat which at other pollo a la brasa / rotisserie chicken places is still juicy, but here was not. For the side, I got fries with rice and beans. I had wanted to get at least one "healthy" side but other than the salad (which was mostly just lettuce), all of the options were fried. The french fries tasted like the frozen oven-cooked ones you can buy at the store. The rice and beans were fine. The best part of the meal was the salsas, so that I could make the food more interesting. I feel bad giving a negative review because the cashiers were really nice and friendly (one was a little too friendly though - he asked for my number! muy coqueto, jaja). However, there are a lot of better chicken places out there, if you are willing to drive a little further away. read more

What an awesome place! In the back of the strip mall area with the advance auto. It was so clean and nice inside. They had many many sides to choose from. 1/4 chicken and two sides was $7.50. What a great deal! Chicken was tender and tasty. I I got yucca which was nice and crisp and a side of mixed veggies. They must have had butter on them because it surprised me how tasty the veggies were. It was so much food that I had leftover the next day. Plenty of seating. There's a big parking lot but it seemed pretty full. read more

This food was wonderful. The rotisserie chicken as well as all of the sides were delicious. The collard greens are very good, not the best I've ever had, but good. The serving sizes were huge and definitely a bang for your buck. My friend got the chicken quesadilla and said it was perfect for lunch. Another great spot to go to for good food at a great price if your fan of Peruvian Style Charbroiled Chicken. I actually stumbled upon this place a few years ago when first trying to make it to the Sardi's location in Capitol Heights but realized it would be closed before I arrived there. Tried it out and have been hooked ever since. I usually order the half chicken, yellow rice with red beans, a side of fried yucca, and three green sauces. The only time I was ever disappointed was when they stopped carrying the yellow rice and made plain rice with mixed vegetables. They sometimes sell out of chicken on Fridays and Saturdays due to high demand so I usually call before I go there. read more

Wonderful Latin American restaurant! Like many such other restaurants in the DC area, they specialize in chicken dishes, although they have some others. What really makes this place stand out is the wonderful spices and flavors that they add. The rotiserrie chicken is tenderly cooked with all sorts of spices that make me drool every time I think about them. I can't claim to be an expert on this subject. I've tried about six other well reviewed DC competitors and none hold a candle to this one. They also offer a chicken calderata (sort of a stew with veggies) that is also very very good. There are also generous heapings of succulent side dishes, including yam and yucca fries, as well as more standard ones like corn on the cob. If you have room left over, they have a nice assortment of gelato as well. The prices are great and you can stuff yourself for less than $10. The ambience is classic cafeteria style and is in a scummy looking strip mall so that's the down side of it (but you can order take-out). An important point is that there is another King Pollo listed in Yelp at Sterling VA that has rather poor reviews. I asked one of the staff if they were part of the same chain and he said no. So anyway, I'm not sure if they're related but certainly the food quality must be head and shoulders above the other one. Don't confuse them. Check it out!!! read more
