I ordered flowers on Saturday afternoon for pick up Sunday. The guy who answered the phone was a little rude and refused to answer most of my questions and kept directing me to their website. This should have been a sign, but I went ahead and placed the order. I was promised that my order would be ready by 11am on Sunday. I show up about 11:45 and the place had apparently closed. After calling the number I was informed that they were in fact closed on Sunday. I was left with no choice but to go with some Jewel flowers that were craptastic! When I called to complain the next day, I was given a halfhearted apology and told that they were probably out to lunch during that time. read more

I placed an order online two days before requested delivery, received an email confirmation which was great....but then the plant never arrived :( I called right at the end of the day and spoke to a very nice young woman who told me that it was likely delivered, but that they don't do delivery confirmation if there is no problem. And she offered no solutions (ie checking with the driver's notes, etc). So....it's just gone?? I had the recipient go to all of the different offices in his building, check with the door-person, etc., and nothing. I emailed to follow-up (paper trail!), asking for any information from the driver about where s/he may have delivered it (hey, things happen, no big deal) -- and 12 hours later still have not received any response. I know it's an incredibly busy time, but I want to get information while it's still fresh in their minds, you know? If it was in fact delivered to the right place and someone stole it, well, that just stinks and it's no one's fault. But if it went to the wrong building or whatever, I'd like to find it! I ordered a very large bouquet of flowers for my daughter who just had a baby. She is in chicago and I'm in South Carolina. I asked her to send me a picture and I was so disappointed. What I ordered was a very large bouquet of a variety of white flowers. What she received was a bouquet of all Lily's that had not bloomed...all green buds with baby's breath (1 flower). I don't write many reviews, as a matter of fact, this is my first one. However, I felt the need to write a review about Marcel Florist based on my experience. It's Valentine's Day, I walk in to get a bouquet for my girlfriend. There are a few people picking up orders, but doesn't seem too busy. I wait in line, and when it comes to be my turn, I stand there for 10 minutes, while the man behind the counter just stands there looking at his computer and walking back and forth. There is no one behind me in line, I'm the only one. I am not so much as even acknowledged, despite me making eye contact with this man about 5 times. So, I continue to stand there at the counter waiting for someone to help me. However, there is no help to be had, although the store is swarming with maybe 10-12 employees. This was one of the most egregious displays of customer service I have ever experienced. I am a big supporter of small business, but not small busines that doesn't even try. In summary, I will not be back and was quite disappointed at the complete disregard for my existence. read more

I ordered a bamboo plant online for my mother's birthday. I ordered yesterday morning to be sure. I called this afternoon (her birthday) to follow up and try to get an estimated time. I was told that I couldn't be given an estimated time because the deliveries in her area (the South side) would be done last. I was told another reason for this was same-day deliveries have to be done...so you have my debit money (guaranteed money you'll fight me tooth and nail for to not refund), now push me to the end of the line to have your delivery people hustle for cash, or as you call it same-day deliveries (unguaranteed money that you want to go to your business before a consumer calls another flower shop). I relayed that I was trying to make sure she would be home to receive my gift...the response to which was: if she wasn't at home the delivery person would leave the plant in the apartment building's hallway...by her door...(what?!). I kept calling to check in and was told at 7:31pm that her delivery would be done after a delivery that was in the process of being completed--100% understandable. Finally, at 8:54pm -- about 1.5 hours after I was told she'd be "next", I called her to see if she'd received the plant. Coincidentally, she answered and said someone was outside ringing every single bell in the apartment complex. I told her to see who it was and it was the delivery person--ringing every bell so that he could hurriedly hand it over to whichever tenant answered the building's front door. When she came back to the phone, I asked if she had to sign for the delivery...no, she did not. I am sure I put her phone number down when I ordered online. However, the delivery person's plan was: ring every bell to rush someone to the door after bringing a gift so late only 3 hours of my mother's birthday is left--even though her bell is clearly labeled with her apartment number. Don't call--even though her number was made available on the online order form. Hand it over to whoever happens to open the door--thank God I called when I did. Yes the gentleman who answered the phone was polite but customer care is still lacking. Not making it clear you do the North side, South side, etc. at very different times of day (so customers can take their business to a shop that will be able to meet the delivery time they want)...Leaving deliveries unattended if no one is readily available...Not having customers or doorman or whoever accepts the delivery sign a tab of paper...What kind of business operates in this fashion? read more

Please read before you purchase: two words: Bait and Switch Dear Marcel Florist, It is extremely disappointing that that arrangement I saw and ordered via your website does not look like the arrangement my husband received! After locating your florist online as being the closest to my husband's new office in Two Prudential Plaza, I choose a substantial bouquet, the Premium version at $104.95. What my husband received was a small bouquet with barely any greens and any shape to it. It looks like an arrangement that my children would put together after I bring home the roses from Costco. Save your time, money, and anger. Do not order from this place. The owner is the most unprofessional businessman I ever had any dealings with. I placed an order online for my wife and I's 10 year anniversary. The flowers were supposed to be delivered 100 yards away from their shop. I never got a call that they do not do morning deliveries although I had asked for it under the special instructions, he said it was somewhere on the site when I placed the order. He was super ill spirited and hung up the phone just as I was about to ask him if anyone even read the special instructions about the morning delivery, then he CANCELLED the order. It is 1PM in the afternoon and I am beyond PISSED. If you do not mind dealing with a complete asshole, then you can probably do business with this guy, else proceed with caution. I tried to support local business and for the sake of the presentation went with a local florist. I had always done ProFlowers until today, I guess I made a grave mistake. Buyer Beware: THIS IS ONE SMELLY FLORIST!! The $85 arrangement placed online for my daughter's 30th birthday did not arrive on her birthday as guaranteed, in spite of the fact that her stepdaughter was at home all day and instructions clearly stated to leave arrangement behind front door (a secured entry area) if no one was at home. No call, no texts, no email, nothing. I called the following morning at 10:00 after my daughter informed me no delivery was made and was told driver was not at work and that I would receive a return call regarding status. Again, no call, no text, no email concerning status. I called at 4:45 the following day (three business days after requested delivery) and was told, "oh ya' we tried to call you but your line was busy (there is no busy status on my cell phone and there is no record of a missed call) or something, but the arrangement was delivered." When I asked what number he used, he stated, "I wrote that down somewhere around here, oh, here it is." He repeated the number he had written down and two numbers had been transposed." Informing him of his error, I asked that he check the telephone number shown on the online order. He looked it up and said, "oh, I just wrote it down wrong, but I used the correct number to try and call you. The delivery was made. Our driver tried to call you. He also texted you." Obviously, they were both using an incorrect number, but rather than provide any credit or other consideration, I was transferred to what I assumed to be the owner or manager and told it was delivered, no question, no credit, no refund. I will call the police, and "do not ever call this store again." The only reasonable thing he said. read more

I walked in on a Wednesday before my Saturday morning wedding to request a set of 15 boutonnieres with specific colors. I'm not sure if this amounts to a fire drill in the flower world, but I definitely felt bad for having procrastinated for so long since brides tend to have their flowers booked months in advance. Thankfully, the young woman I dealt with was very knowledgable and they were very reasonably priced, beautifully done, and they even were able to incorporate the ribbon that I dropped off to be incorporated into the "stem" of the bout. The only minor gripe I had was the delivery fee which seemed a bit steep considering the relatively short distance (from the south loop shop to a hotel in river north). But for fresh, beautifully done flowers delivered at 8am on Saturday on a last minute order, I'll take the hit :) read more

I've ordered twice and they a) make beautiful arrangements, something a little creative and unique, and b) they are very accommodating with my last second orders to tricky delivery addresses (my wife works at the Cook County Courthouse at 26th and California). read more

I made a telephone order to have flowers delivered to a memorial service that I could not attend. After the service, I learned from a friend that the flowers were not at the service. When I called Marcel Florist to inquire about this, they gave numerious responses (including stating that I could not know that the flowers were not at the service since I was not personnally there!) The absence of the flowers was distrubing, however, I recognize that mistakes sometime happen. My complaint is that it took three phone calls from me to get Marcel Florist to credit my account for the undelivered flowers. In each of the first two calls, they promised to check into the matter and get back to me. In neither case did they follow through and call me back. On the third call, they appeared to recognize that I was perhaps more persistent that most people and thus agreeded to refund their charges for the undelivered flowers. The fact that not only were the flowers not delivered, but in addition it took three calls to get the refund suggests that this florist is not operating with the best of standards. read more

I found Marcel's on the internet. I have had bad luck with some of the larger florists online, so I figured it would better to find a local one near my friend. I sent her flowers that were to arrive on the day that she was supposed to come visit me for my birthday (Sat.) and we were supposed to be together. On Monday, she had still not called me to say she received the flowers and I was surprised. I contacted Marcel's and someone said that they had been delivered and that it happens all the time that people don't call to say thanks and the sender thinks that they weren't delivered. I emailed her and she confirmed that she had not received anything. I called back and the person talked to the driver who said that no one answered the buzz and that the janitor of the building had told him to "leave them in the mailroom". I asked why the driver had left them unattended and listened to the janitor. The man sounded irritated and said that "this is Chicago, we can't be driving all over the place!".I told him that I am familiar with Chicago and know that people steal things all the time. They did not apologize and were rude on top of it! I told him that I wanted my money back now that the day had passed. They told me they couldn't do that until they knew what exactly had happened. I called my friend and she said that she was home all day and no one had called. So someone was not being honest. I called back and they admitted that no one had called her to notify her that they were left in the mailroom. HELLO! I reminded them that while they were rude, no one ever said they were sorry. They resent the flowers, but I really should have just gotten my money back. I wouldn't have been so mad if they had apologized and been polite. I will not use them again. read more
