If you're looking for beautiful, long-lasting flowers..this is the place for you. If you are looking for customer service..RUN elsewhere. We stopped in Thursday before Mother's Day on a large last minute decoration request for our job. It was my first time there and I've never bought flowers in bulk so it took us some time asking questions and running numbers. The first interaction that left a bad taste in my mouth was a worker barking at me to stay away from the carnation buckets that another worker had said I could choose from. "There's nothing back there for little girls" was his way of telling me, a 33 yr old WOMAN, not to pick from the carnations. I wanted to immediately leave, but knew we needed these flowers and this may be the only place we can find a large amount last minute. Then, when we finally were ready to check out, the owner (or the man behind the desk) was adamant that our client's card numbers weren't going to work because he needed 16 digits. I explained AMEX only has 15. It seems their systems are dated, so the owner had to call the card reader vendor which held things up and a line began to form. We didn't want to cause stress for anyone so we assured him multiple times he can take other guests before us so they didn't need to wait. He declined and continued to insist that it was our fault we didn't have the correct card numbers, but continued to speak with the vendor (who later confirmed that AX only has 15 numbers...). None of the other customers were complaining at all..but the WORKERS started making unnecessary and rude comments about us and how long it was taking. I was on the phone with my boss trying to figure out another option while the owner was on the phone with the vendor and things were feeling really stressful already, let alone having staff talk about us in front of the entire store. "This has turned into so much of a nightmare." "This is ridiculous." I told one of them that we had offered for others to go ahead of us in line, but he said they couldn't because the car had been loaded already. Finally, I was so stressed that I put it on my personal credit card just to get out of there. Rushed out of there with my receipt only to see they had unloaded my car- so now I had to wait for them to reload...after they were rushing us! Never in my life have I been heckled at by the employees of a business where I am spending $1000...I was shocked and felt disrespected..like they thought we didn't have the money to cover our bill, and that just because we took longer than an average transaction, we were inconveniencing them. The only reason I decided to still purchase with them is because it was last minute and right before Mother's Day and our options were slim. But to choose to return...absolutely not. read more

It's important to know that this is a floral wholesaler, not a retail shop-- but you don't have to have a business to shop or order like some other wholesalers in the city! I've walked in a few times for small projects and recently made an advanced order for a friend's wedding, and they are helpful and friendly. They have a cooler with items you can take home same-day, and are easy to order from in advance, although just be aware that you mostly need to order by the bunch or at a certain minimum (like 20 roses). The owner was very prompt in calling to tell me when an item I wanted wasn't available and suggested a replacement. Prices are SO low and everything in my order was very fresh and in great shape. Only reason they are even getting 1 star, is because the service was decent, and I think you have to give a star in order to be able to rate on Yelp. There are 2 people that answer the phones, and only one of them actually knows what he is talking about. We purchased flowers for our wedding 1 month ago, peonies and baby's breath, and the peonies were garbage. We were only able to use a handful of the peonies for our centerpieces because the rest were either dead, or had not even opened up yet. When we called back to receive reimbursement for only half of the cost of the peonies, we were almost blamed rather than sympathized with. The guy there said that clearly we were not florists. The owner got involved and asked us to provide pictures, which we did, and apparently that wasn't enough because his "decision stands" to not reimburse us. We do not recommend that anyone get flowers here unless you are ordering something like baby's breath or a simple rose, and you have a plan B for the day of your big event. read more

I know nothing about flowers. So going into this wholesaler with a few photos of what I was going for, I was super scared. The guys here showed me examples of what they recommended and gave me a few pointers. I left feeling really anxious about how it would all turn out; after all, these were for my WEDDING. I had friends assemble them into arrangements after picking them up the day before the wedding, and they were beautiful. For $140 I got all of my wedding flowers. I really wanted to work with Chicago Flower Exchange because they are in my neighborhood and had great reviews, but in the end was unable to because of their horrible service. I went in looking for flowers for my wedding arrangements. I was planning to do them myself. Every time I came in, the cooler was empty and I was told to come back. I kept coming in trying to place an order and each time was told, "Don't worry, we can order anything, but come back next week, or closer to your date, and we can look in the cooler and see what we have". Despite my instincts telling me not to, I listened and kept waiting and coming back to find an empty cooler. For some reason, they couldn't help me with an order despite the fact I was bringing in photos of the specific flowers I wanted. They wanted me to first look at the product in the cooler - that was always EMPTY. I had a friend who is a florist help me put together an order and decided to just call it in, since they told me they could order anything. Every item I listed was met with resistance and uncertainty. They informed me they would not be able to get ANY of the flowers! Thank goodness my friend has an account at Kennicott and placed the order for me there! If you need something specific and have an important deadline, definitely look elsewhere. read more

These guys know how to sell flowers! I have bought lots of flowers from them for years for parties and holidays. Their flowers are right off the plane, so they are very fresh and they last, unlike the ones you buy from most grocery stores. I DIYed all my wedding center pieces and bouquets. Chicago flower exchange was super helpful and nice. I also did my part by going in with specific selections and number of flowers. I only ordered one kind of flower that was a speciality flower, and they came out beautiful. For the regular carnations, they gave me a few extra bunches, in case some of them were broken. Again, they went above and beyond. My only disclaimer is if you have a lot of speciality flowers, they might not have all of them available. read more
