Although I live in NYC, I love sending opening night flowers to friends no matter where they might be performing across the country. I just had a friend open tonight in the tour of "MJ The Musical" in Chicago. Now, when I send opening night flowers, I don't simply send just any flower/arrangement. It has to be "themed" to the show. I went online and found Design by Rosa and saw their high rating. In looking over the website I found an arrangement which looked like a fine starting point for what I was envisioning. Working with Rosa, she and her design team took the arrangement and embellished it to a stunning presentation. Not only did it stay in the scheme of black and white (think Michael Jackson's "Black or White" song) but the visual appearance of the arrangement was a wonderful floral depiction of the card that I had sent to the shop to accompany the flowers. Within the first 2 minutes of speaking with Rosa, I knew she was someone very special. The kind and caring personality she possesses is becoming very difficult to find these days and is truly priceless in my mind. I wanted to buy a bouquet at the last minute. I checked out Yelp reviews for a couple of florists and decided to go with Designs by Rosa. Its a tiny shop, conveniently located in the loop. I purchased a Yelp deal $10 for $20. Now the catch is minimum purchase: $30. The owner was nice, but she kept on asking me how many flowers of each kind to put in. Now someone would appreciate that, but being in a hurry, I kept telling her to be the best judge and keep it under $30. Overall, it was a fine experience. I wanted to send my friend some flowers because she's going through a hard time right now, and I am so glad I chose to send her flowers from Designs by Rosa. I wanted same-day delivery but didn't realize until after I placed the order that it might not be delivered until the following day because of the time that I placed the order. My friend was going to be out of town the next day, so I called the shop and Charles picked up. I told him the situation and asked if there's any way to have them delivered the same day despite the timing of when I placed the order. Charles was super nice and super understanding. He said that they can absolutely have it delivered the same day. He also let me know that some of the flowers in the bouquet I chose were not available and asked if certain replacements are ok. I said that's absolutely fine and that I trust their judgment to make it look nice. He let me know that delivery will be between 4-6pm and that everything was set. Around 2pm my friend messages me that she's crying from receiving the flowers. I'm so glad that Charles was able to make it happen and got the flowers delivered even earlier than promised. Let me tell you a story... The first time I received flowers from my boyfriend was for my birthday. He went by there and had a discussion with her, emphasizing that my favorie color was red. The arrangement shoud designed couldn't have been more perfect! Roses, gerbera daisies, and even red/orange tinted sunflowers in a tall cylindrical vase. Beautiful on my desk at work and on my dinner table at home. THEN, a year later, my birthday rolled around again. Since Rosa had done such a fantastic job the first year, my boyfriend of course decided to go to her again. He left extremely disappointed. He went through the same dialogue with her, telling her that she did a great job the year before, my favorite color is red, etc. etc. So, what did he get in return? An arrangement of all white flowers (lillies, daisies, hyacinth) that were very fragrant, with not enough filler and in a square vase that was too big for the flowers in it so they just flopped around. When he went to pick it up, he was shocked and asked if she remembered that he said that my favorite color was red. She apparently remembered and offered to put a red ribbon on the square vase, which she did. It did not work out so well. He's never been back in the five years we've been together. I walk past the shop all the time and stopped in after my family pet passed away. I wanted to get a nice floral arrangement for my mom because she was heartbroken. I don't recall the name of the woman who helped me but she was VERY nice, professional and helpful. I explained to her what I was looking for and the reason for the purchase and she helped me pick out a vase after explaining the different flower choices. She pointed out several flowers she could place in the arrangement and I informed her that I wanted something orange included since that is my mom's favorite color. I am a guest services representative at theWit hotel in the Loop. I found Design's by Rosa on google. I was looking for an arrangement of 38 red roses for a guest. I needed to get them as soon as possible. I called Design's by Rosa and was fortunate to speak to Rosa herself. She was so polite and understanding. I have frequented this flower shop for several years since it's so close to my work. I used to be able to get some pretty arrangements from Rosa for the budget I wanted. However, lately I never see her and only see a variety of other people working in there. The last 4 arrangements I've had from her location haven't had any floral food in them, have been poorly designed and executed, the flowers haven't looked fresh when I get up to look at them and they die within two days. I gave them one last chance two weeks ago to do an arrangement and again, dead flowers in less than two days! It's embarrassing to give that to someone! As a former repeat customer, I can no longer recommend Rosa or her shop. I have ordered from Rosa a number of times and each time was a good experience until this Valentine's Day. To say the ball was dropped would be an understatement and the owner and her associates made it quite clear they do not give a damn about doing a good job, just getting more orders. I ordered an arrangement on January 31 for pick-up on Valentine's Day. When I arrived Valentine's Day morning, I was told that they forgot to put the arrangement together and that, "These things happen." I was not offered an apology and neither the manager nor Rosa even spoke with me, instead deferring to a cashier/associate, whom they placed the blame on. I was told that to make-up for this, they would deliver it 'complimentary' sometime between 10am - 3pm on Saturday. That isn't a reasonable offer, but without many other options, I said fine and went along. The arrangement was delivered and left in the mail room (every other florist delivers to the door in my building) and most importantly, it was not what I ordered, to put it delicately. I called about this and I was told that Rosa herself put this together, which I can only take to be a slap in the face or an intentionally subpar arrangement for what I paid. I could find a better arrangement at Jewell or Whole Foods for $25, let alone for the price I paid (multiples of that). The flowers were wilted and not the ones or the amount I ordered. I will not be using Rosa again. They balked when I asked for a refund (offering to return the flowers/vase), which says enough bout their quality of service in my eyes. I used to come in this cute little shop a lot! The staff was great and they always knew what I wanted. Things changed a little bit, they have a new staff, the owner is still there but the other girls are gone. The place looks a bit dusty and messy the flower arrangements are not as cute as they used to be. I'm definitely disappointed. The selection of flowers has dramatically been cut back.... The new staff is not as knowledgeable or friendly as the past girls. :( during Valentines day I even witness as one of the new girls yelled and called the cops on a customer for no apparent reason, maybe she was having a bad day.... I can't thank enough for the great customer service Jesus, Charles, and their delivery driver showed. I placed an order of flowers and had them sent to my sisters new place. However, the area was not that great and the driver wanted to make sure someone was home and called to make sure as my sister wasn't there.
