It's been several years since I have logged into Yelp to write a review, but I simply had to write one for Flor Del Monte. My husband and I recently got married at Salvage One, and three months before our wedding date, we still hadn't selected a florist. Our friend recommended Zenia at Flor Del Monte, and I'm so happy she did. From our first phone call, Zenia was a pleasure to work with, and, though we had some unconventional ideas (we were commissioning a potter-friend to make the vases for our centerpieces), she was the only florist I spoke with who seemed genuinely excited to work with us, and could work within our budget. My general rule when planning my wedding was "let the professionals do what they do best," and that definitely was my approach with the flowers; aside from telling her we wanted fall colors, and for the flowers to look a bit "wild" we really gave her free reign when it came to her designs. A few weeks before the wedding we met and she showed me a few flowers she had in mind, and my husband and I were both delighted. She came to the venue on the day of the wedding with the most gorgeous arrangements I had ever seen: roses, succulents, ranunculus, and lots of flowers I can't even name. Zenia from Flor del Monte did the flowers for my wedding on 9/26/10 and everything was sensational. I met with two other florist before meeting with Zenia and we instantly clicked. She was really good at listening to my ideas and then taking them and making them one step (or sometimes 10 steps) better. From start to finish my experience was awesome. Calls were either picked up right away or returned within a couple of hours. She always responds to emails right away and no question is too small or dumb - she never makes you feel like you're bothering her. And as for the flowers- WOW. They absolutely exceeded my expectations! My bridal bouquet was better than I thought it would be and my bridesmaids flowers were EXACTLY what I wanted. All of the arrangements at the church and venue (Newberry Library) were unreal - my biggest piece of advice is just to go to Flor del Monte. I selected Flor Del Monte to provide floral for my November 2017 wedding and could not have been happier with their services! Zenia was one of my favorite wedding vendors. She made me feel that I, and my wedding, mattered despite that we weren't a big budget affair. PROPOSAL PROCESS The Flor Del Monte proposal process felt very personal, professional and simple. I met with Zenia in person and discussed our needs / color scheme. She seemed to quickly understand the vision for our wedding and was able to offer ideas on the spot for me to consider. She provided a formal proposal about 4 business days later. The proposal was very detailed and also very flexible, outlining optional ideas to plus up / reduce various elements. She also proposed 3 unique centerpiece concepts to add versatility to the room design (and to help balance the budget). During our initial meeting, we actually did not discuss an official budget; as a result, Zenia's first proposal was about $2K more than I had hoped to spend. I provided this feedback and she quickly provided an alternate proposal that met my needs. BUDGET By the time I came across Flor del Monte, I had explored many alternate florists, and had actually contracted with another company that proved to be very difficult to work with. I can genuinely say that Zenia provided more for our money than I had seen with any other florist - in terms of cost per centerpiece/bouquet and, more importantly, in terms of creativity. You will not get "cookie cutter" floral from Flor del Monte. PRE-WEDDING PLANNING Zenia and I held one additional meeting to discuss final details and had a few conversations by email. She is extremely professional - all emails were responded to promptly (within 48 hours). She definitely knows her flowers and I trusted her completely. You can let Zenia and her team do their thing without micromanagement. THE FLOWERS Our flowers - the bouquets, boutonnieres, cake flowers, centerpieces - were absolutely gorgeous! They were romantic and exuded simple elegance. I will let the photos speak for themselves (if I can figure out how to add photos to this review). Also, our bouquets were out of water for about 4 hours (for the ceremony and wedding photos around Chicago). They lasted perfectly (no browning or wilting) and we were able to re-use them for the reception as planned. My only sadness regarding the flowers was that we didn't consider a plan for giving our centerpieces away at the end of the night. We had rented the vases from Flor del Monte so it wasn't as simple as people just taking them off the table. The flowers were soooo beautiful that I wished they had ended up in guests' homes. My personal bouquet still looked absolutely perfect the next morning and dried perfectly (while we were on honeymoon). Zenia at Flor Del Monte is a true class act and fabulous floral artist! I first met Z and the FDM team at a Yelp event about 3 years ago and was just waiting for the opportunity to call them. Finally, I got married! Reason for a florist. I contacted her to discuss some flowers for my wedding, and she spent quite a bit of time chatting with me, then put together some proposals (which were gorgeous). IN the end I didn't decide to go this route and did my own flowers (of course they couldn't have been as beautiful as hers would've been!) but I was so happy with the entire experience that I felt it necessary to pen a review. She can do a lot of creative stuff (I made a pinterest board and shared with her, which worked well) and can take ideas and turn them into reality. Even with the photos/quote she provided I knew she "got" what I was going for. Went here to get mother's day bouquets for mom and 2 sisters. The flowers were incredibly fresh and healthy looking. They have on the go stuff you can pick up that they will take and dress up in 2 minutes or they will work on a bouquet for you for 30 minutes customized. Lots of flowers, some that I haven't even seen before. Vases and other little accessories are also available. Overall if you want a good modern flower shop at a great price that is local owned then definitely check this place out. During our first meeting with Zenia from Flor del Monte, we already knew that we wanted her to do our wedding flowers. From the very beginning, Zenia exuded a sense of warmth and comfort with full professionalism. She made us feel very comfortable as we went through all the details and how we envisioned our wedding flowers to look like. We met with another flower vendor just so that we have room to compare but we didn't get the same feeling of excitement and relief as we did after meeting with Zenia. That was when we knew we wanted Flor del Monte. I told Zenia about my color theme and what flowers I wanted and she also added in some of her own ideas which were fantastic. My bridal bouquet was just as how i envisioned it to be, if not better. I wanted something different for my bridesmaids and instead of mini bouquets for them, I got them pomanders. They were absolutely adorable and classy looking. My bridesmaids had such fun with their pomanders while calling it their "bowling ball" because it was a little heavier than it looked, but it was awesome! Now I wish I got a pomander for myself just for fun :) Don't ask me why as I don't have the answer to this but my husband is nervous about pins on his clothes. It has something to do with being nervous about how the pins might accidentally poke him when he hugs people on that day. Oh well, I guess they don't call it irrational fear for nothing! At our final consultation with Zenia, when he realized that his boutonniere would have to be pinned onto his lapel, he pointed out to Zenia his concern and she suggested that instead of using pins, she would use a very strong and secure magnet that would make the boutonniere stick to his lapel. I always knew that I wanted tall centerpieces for my wedding reception (it's one of those wedding "dreams"... lol) and I couldn't have been happier with Zenia's work: tall vase with white hydrangeas and overflowing willow branches. In lieu of a traditional guestbook, I described to her that we wanted a wishing tree and she executed it as well. When we walked into our reception venue, I couldn't believe what a fantastic job Zenia did. She pulled it all together and that was enough confirmation that we made the right choice with Flor del Monte. read more

The personal florals (bouquets, boutonnières, and corsages) that Zenia created for our wedding this past weekend were downright stunning and one of the elements of our wedding that gave me the most joy. I would say Zenia "read my mind," but I think it would actually be more accurate to say she listened incredibly closely to what I wanted, to the point where she was able to make something that was an augmented version of what I had communicated to her during our consultation. I knew I wanted a color palette of soft pastels with certain kinds of flowers and greens (garden roses, anemone, eucalyptus, etc.), and Zenia took that as a point of departure to create something extraordinary. The way she juxtaposed color, texture, and shape in our florals was masterful - her creativity and talent blew me away. The beauty of my bridal bouquet, especially, was truly beyond anything I had envisioned. I got so many compliments from friends and family - and looking back, I think the florals are really what tied our event together in terms of the soft color palette and garden-inspired vibe. Flor Del Monte was recommended to me by my wedding coordinator. First, I want to say that Zenia is very sweet and great to work with. She worked with my budget to create beautiful centerpieces and bouquets. I changed my mind a few times and had many questions, but she was patient and willing to listen to all my ideas. The Bride and BM bouquets were delivered to my house (where we were getting ready). When I saw the flowers, I was beyond happy. They were so fresh and beautiful. I was obsessed with my bouquet. I had sent her an image of what I wanted it to look like, and the bouquet she made was even better than the image I sent her. When I got to the Ceremony Space the flowers were all set up on the columns. Two workers were going through all of the flowers, making sure they looked perfect. They kept on turning and touching up all the pieces making sure that they looked fabulous from every angle. The flowers and draping made the space look so much better. Many of the guests complimented the flowers and draping at the ceremony site. Flor Del Monte also moved all the ceremony flowers to my reception space as well as set up centerpieces on each table. I brought 250 of my own candles and glass candle holders to the reception space a few days before the wedding. Zenia told me to leave everything (still in boxes) at the reception site and that they would be more than happy to set everything up. This was a great help! Somebody loves me! Yes, I am the lucky girl! Exiting our building I notice a phenomenal arrangement full of intense hues of pink sitting on the doorman's desk. It has taken me a while to review this flower shop, but I have been meaning to do it since I ordered flowers for my coworker who had surgery this summer and she loved them! I live in Pilsen so I had seen the shop and walked by it, but had not ordered something from there before. When my boss asked me to send flowers to the hospital I called them and the two ladies I spoke with were friendly and very helpful. I don't know much about flowers so I could not tell them what I wanted exactly. I just said make it pretty and told them I wanted to spend $100 - the company allowance for Get-Well-Soon arrangements. I was told "Don't worry, we will make a beautiful arrangement that your friend will love." Man did they deliver! When I visited my friend the next day the first thing she did was rave about the flowers. The arrangement was BIG - about 2.5 feet tall, and very voluminous. It had beautiful white and blue flowers that were very fresh and GINORMOUS. I have ordered arrangements for the same price from other better know flower shops in the city and I think Flor del Monte blows them away when it comes to the value of what you get. And to top it all off they delivered to the South Suburbs without complaining about it. My friend's surgery was at St Francis Hospital near Calumet Park. I have tried ordering flowers for other coworkers who live South of Hyde Park and I've always had to call numerous places before someone agrees to drive that far for a delivery. I told everyone at my office to just call Flor del Monte from now on. I had NO idea what I wanted for flowers and decor and she walked me through the whole process and presented mood board and options to help us build the perfect wedding. We were doing a fusion wedding with both Indian and Western cultures. She did an amazing job designing a backdrop for the Western ceremony that could be turned into a mandap for the Indian ceremony. We hired Flor Del Monte for our wedding at the Wit Hotel on October 6, 2013, and I couldn't have been more delighted. Zenia was absolutely WONDERFUL to work with, and the flower arrangements far exceeded our expectations. She made our budget work so well, and since our ceremony and reception were in the same hotel, she also suggested we re-use our arrangements- i.e., the floral centerpieces that decorated the aisle and our two mazanita trees with tea-light candles, which perfectly framed the end of the aisle, were all used again as part of our reception decor, on our candy table and guest/family tables. Genius! I had a special vision for my own bouquet, I knew I wanted lots and lots of color. What she delivered was the most beautiful and creative arrangement I had ever seen. Zenia and her team were also very punctual with the deliveries; they were there early to set up for the ceremony, they transferred the arrangements from the ceremony to the reception area (our reception area literally transformed with her flowers), and they were on time to pick up at the end of the night.
