I first dined here a couple of years ago for my birthday. While the food wasn't particularly memorable at the time, the bread service certainly was. Combined with the exceptional service and beautiful ambiance, the experience left a lasting impression and made me want to return for another try. That opportunity came this past Sunday. I originally planned to stop in for a drink and the bread service, but my boyfriend and I ended up ordering the Caesar salad and the Lobster Risotto as well. The bread service was just as amazing as I remembered. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the Caesar salad, especially the freshly grated cheese, which he said was incredibly light and airy. As for the Lobster Risotto, it exceeded my expectations in both flavor and portion size. The risotto itself was somewhat mild on its own, but once I mixed in the herb butter, it became absolutely delicious. The lobster itself was very tender and tasty, I loved it. I've officially fallen in love with Marcel and will definitely be adding it to my list of go-to dinner spots. The bread service, ambiance, interior design, and customer service are all outstanding. I truly appreciate supporting businesses that consistently deliver such a high-quality experience.
Exceptional service from beginning to end of dining experience. Some of the stand outs were the striped bass (off-menu) and the shrimp appetizer. The 22oz ribeye was a lot thicker than I would've preferred and the flavor was a bit lacking. The sides were also just ok. The scalloped potatoes, spinach au gratin, and cacio e pepe were more cheesy than flavorful. I wouldn't consider Marcel the best steak house in Atlanta in terms of food, but if you're looking for an intimate and fine dining experience I would atleast try it once.
Walking into Marcel, one is transported to another world. A moody, retro, classic world where bowties are worn unironically in a setting that could best be described as a boxing gym renovated with industrial touches to become a steakhouse in the 1940s. That world could be anywhere. It could even be in Midtown West Atlanta. Service was impeccable. Servers knew we were celebrating our anniversary and were attentive and helpful when making tough menu choices. Pacing was definitely geared toward fine dining. 40 minutes between starters and entree was a BIT long, but it went by. Steak was wonderful (a porterhouse for 2), cooked to a perfect medium rare with seasoning appropriately calibrated to not overpower. East and west coast oysters were fresh and the Marcel salad to start was underdressed and lacked flavor (I enjoyed how they plopped a mound of bleu cheese on top to mix in; I pushed this aside which my server and I laughed about. He said he'd do the same. Maybe it's a sign). Hot bread service with a spreadable cheese and prosciutto was a nice touch. The French fries are probably the best I've ever had, and the asparagus was asparagus (slightly undersalted if anything). Chocolate cake was impressive in presentation but unremarkable for flavor and consistency. My wife enjoyed her decaf coffee as the best she's had at a restaurant, but her cocktail left something to be desired and was extremely tart. A Mexican coke was perfect enough for me. The pricing here is exorbitant. The price tag isn't necessarily a problem given the caliber of dining experience and ambiance that Marcel provides, but given some of the misses on staple items (namesake salad, "famous" chocolate cake), I'm not sure that value for dollar spent is present. In transparency, our dinner comprised of the above was over $400 with tip, which was aligned with expectations walking in the door. Whether the food stood up to the actual place and pricing is a debate. I lean toward an answer of "almost, but close enough not to be insulted." If a gun was pointed at my head to pick the "best steakhouse" in Atlanta, I'd pick Bones without thinking twice. This place is a close second probably, but places like Nowaks in Sandy Springs, while not the same echelon of formality, might have Marcel beat on flavor and definitely have Marcel beat on value for the dollar. Is Marcel's concept valid and well executed? Yes, without question. Would I want somebody else to pay if I returned? Yes, without question. 4.3/5 stars
I ran the best restaurant with the highest food quality through Claude and this was one of the recommendations. This steakhouse did not disappoint! It's an old school steakhouse vibe. I found a Casablanca book near the hostess stand. The service was fantastic. Everyone was so nice and the service was pretty quick. They checked on us frequently and ensured our water never ran low. We had to try everything while we were here lol Appetizers: Escargot - I didn't try this but my coworker said it was the best he's ever had! He's a foodie that travels all over the world so that says a lot. Crab Mayo - this was really good! It came with chunks of crab and had a smooth and creamy taste to it. You can eat it straight or on top of a cracker. Snow crab was pretty good. It had a little creamy/tangy sauce at the bottom Caesar was pretty good. It didn't stand out and was pretty standard. Main Dish: The steaks have a red wine roux on the bottom. It doesn't had that much flavor to it but maybe keeps it juicy. We got the truffle butter and it paired with the steaks so well. I thought the wine roux would've clashed with it, but it went well with the steak. Filet - this was so good! It was so tender and cooked and seasoned perfectly. This is definitely the hit Ribeye - I'm usually a ribeye girl, but I wasn't impressed with this. It was chewy and pretty tough. Sides: We got the pommes dauphaunois which is a scalloped potato. It was a little too cheesy and rich. You can only eat a little with the steak but definitely can't finish a whole dish The corn gratin would be a pass next time. It had an odd taste. It was a little sour maybe from sour cream and had a grainy texture. The flavors weren't really flowing together Desserts: The crème brûlée and chocolate cake were probably the best I've ever had. The crème brute had a smooth creamy vanilla flavor to it. Had a nice creamy texture to it. The chocolate cake was so moist and not too sweet. Wish it came with vanilla ice cream lol This was a fun place to have a nice meal!

Great for date nights or special occasions. Everything on the menu is insane. Somehow I do not have a photo of my steak, but the cheesy potatoes (pommes dauphinoise) was insane!! So so good a must try. Escargot was another fav! Our server was so kind. We had never been before and he was great at explaining the menu and making the whole experience very enjoyable! I cannot wait to go back!
I came here for a lunch popup Marcel did that brought back their late-night burger and shakes! There's paid parking in the westside provisions deck and the line was long but it moved fairly quickly and I was very impressed by the staff and service given the volume of people that showed up for the popup! Inside, Marcel is very moody and classic steakhouse vibes. My friends and I were seated quickly and we all ordered the cheeseburger, 2 orders of fries with sauce to share, and chocolate shakes. The shakes came first and OMG THEY WERE SO GOOD!! I almost finished it before our meals arrived. The burger was also delicious and cooked perfectly well. And I adored the fries, they were perfectly skinny shoestring shaped and crispy. The bearnaise sauce to dip them in was also delicious. Overall, so glad I came to the popup (it lived up to the hype for sure) and now I want to come for a proper dinner!
Marcel is absolutely beautiful and the service was great. I walked in with high expectations and left a little underwhelmed. The lobster risotto was amazing and easily one of the best parts of the night. The chocolate cake was also a standout. Rich, indulgent, and worth it. It was my first time trying beef Wellington and the mushroom layer just wasn't for me. The steak itself was fine, but for the price, it didn't feel worth it. I was also expecting more from the pommes dauphinoise. The French onion soup was solid but overhyped in my opinion. Overall, I'd only recommend this restaurant in Atlanta if you're coming specifically for the lobster risotto and chocolate cake, or if you're here for the vibes and a luxe night out. Marcel is known for being one of the best steakhouses in Atlanta, so I might have to try their other cuts next time!
Marcel was absolutely impeccable. I had been aiming to cross this restaurant off our our list and today was the day I was able to do that. It did not disappoint - in fact, it exceeded my expectations. First of all, Ken was an excellent server. He was paced, attentive, informative, and communicative throughout our experience. We were also celebrating our anniversary, and he and the staff made sure to make the occasion memorable (won't give away to keep it special for you). The food was amazing from beginning to end. First, the bread service was prompt, warm, soft, and served with ricotta. Next, the Ceasar salad was made next to where we sat - and to see them mixing the salads so meticulously down to mixing the dressing from scratch was one of the most amazing dining experiences I've had. I love a good Ceasar - and this was amongst the best. We also ordered the Oysters Marcel - and they were so fresh and bright. For our main course, my wife ordered the bone-in filet. It was cooked to perfection (medium rare - medium). I enjoyed redfish topped with Jump Lump Crab Oscar sauce (with crabs). Both proteins were amazing, but I was surprised by how perfectly cooked the fish was. Delectable. For sides, we enjoyed Cream Corn Gratin and Pommes Frites Béarnaise . Both were complementary of the proteins. The dessert was a 10-Layer Chocolate Cake. It was sooo good. Sweet but not too sweet. Good as it looks. Lastly, the ambiance was amazing. It was like stepping into a portal into a different space in time - almost made you forget we were in Atlanta. It's a bit dark inside - but a well lit darkness - just like I like it. Easy to see the entire space but also feel unseen (even though you are). Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone - although we made a pact to not take anyone from our circle. We want to keep this one for us. But hopefully this write up encourages a stranger to enjoy Marcel. Merci

Very nice spot. Extremely pricey and very nice service. You get a feel of old New Orleans feel or back in the 1920s flappers bar but no smoke and no music. It's more elegant style and dimmed lighting. There's a whole book menu on bottles of wine, the bread service is very delicious, and everything is presented very lovely. Food is just ok. For the price. I want everything to be the best of the best. But I've had better risotto and better steak. I didn't mind theirs don't get me wrong but you're paying more for the ambience and vibes. Service was very nice when they came around. If not, very slow and non existent for main server. He was only there to take my order and our check. Everything else was done by the other team member who was his partner serving drinks, taking plates away, talking with us more to give a better experience. Which we enjoyed him. I don't know if I'd go back as it's just not justified to me but had a nice time.
Hands Down Top 5 steak houses in Atlanta Made a reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday to ensure we had a memorable experience. Marcel did not disappoint. We were greet kindly by the host team and had to wait an only few minutes while they prepped our table. It allowed for us to snap a few birthday photos. Reservations are highly suggested if you want the full dinning experience, or else you could sit in the bar area. We were taken care of by Ken and Todd. Ken was very personable and knowledgeable of the menu. He offered us drinks and gave us time to peruse the menu before returning to give us his highlights. Our whole order was taken at one time so that the kitchen could course out our meal timely. We started with the escargot which was a first for both of us. Ken assured us that their Chef was well versed in preparing them and that it was a popular favorite. It was interesting, not bad, and I enjoyed them, but my wife said she could do without them. We then had a Caesar salad which prepared table side by Todd and it was very fresh with the traditional anchovies which was a nice touch. For an entree we shared the bone-in filet with a side of asparagus and the lobster risotto split for two. All of it was amazing. We wanted to try the desert and specifically the crème brûlée but we were to full. In spite of that, our server still provided us a tasty treat with a candle to celebrate her day. All in all a great experience. It is a pretty penny, but in my opinion worth it all.
I love Marcel. The food, the service, the ambiance-- never disappoints. We ordered the lobster risotto which to me is the best kept secret on the menu. Hefty portion packing so much flavor. We also ordered the strip which needed more seasoning in my opinion. I will say the servers do have really long scripts that could sometimes get in the way of conversation, but everything is elegant, upscale, and worth every penny. Must try in Atlanta!

I came here for a girls' night, and it turned out to be one of the best experiences we've had. The food was delectable, the ambiance was unique and enjoyable, and the staff was incredibly exceptional. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. read more
Enjoyed a group dining birthday dinner experience. We sat at the long table by the bar in the back and had a preset menu with wine. Apps family style such as shrimp, crab, bread, and mushrooms. We had an option of steak, red fish, or a vegetarian pasta. Desert was a tarte. We started with martinis and migrated to red. ~$250 each with tax and tip. read more
To review Marcel's is easy... it's elegant, beautiful experience and the food is exceptional good quality. The service is made the experience even better. The care they put into setting up the tables and waiting on you throughout your dinner so nothing short of amazing. I will be back. The lobster risotto was one of the best I've ever had. Sat at the bar and loved the dark, jazzy steakhouse vibe--the atmosphere was a standout. Drinks were great, and the steak, potatoes, and salad were excellent. Unfortunately, the mussels and shrimp appetizers were disappointing, and service at the bar wasn't great. Overall, the food and ambiance made it worth it, but some inconsistencies kept it from being a full five stars. read more

I am honestly so glad I even got to come to Marcel. It always been a little out of my price point but they did a one day 2 hour walk in only lunch special with their late night cheese burger pop up and I am so glad we came. We had to wait about 20 minutes in line but once we were in, we were in! Super simple menu - Cheeseburger or hamburger, fries to share and vanilla or chocolate milkshake. We all got cheese burgers and chocolate milkshakes and 2 sides of fries for 3 people to share. The cheese burger was to die for and just melt in your mouth delicious. The bernaise with the fries was great and the chocolate shake? Just wow it was so delicious. If they ever did this again I would love to come! I also now have the itch to come to Marcel for a normal dinner. read more

Did the New Year's Eve prix fixe at Marcel with a late reservation for four. We were welcomed with Champagne while waiting for our table, which was a nice touch--though the wait itself (about 30 minutes) was the least enjoyable part since the place was packed. Once seated, the experience really took off. Our server, Kevin, was excellent--super knowledgeable, walked us through the menu and pairings, and even shared a bit of Marcel's history. The first course was a win across the board: caviar, raw oysters, crab mayonnaise, and steak tartare. Everything was fresh and flavorful, especially the tartare, which melted in your mouth. I followed the drink pairings, which meant plenty of Champagne. Second course included escargot, prawns, scallops, and stewed beef cheek, paired with a velvety Cabernet Sauvignon. Not usually an escargot fan, but it was solid. The beef cheek was the standout--tender, juicy, and rich, with oxtail-like flavors. Easily my favorite bite of the night. We had to leave before midnight to catch fireworks at the Signia Hotel, so the remaining courses came home with us: Salade Marcel, a huge 30oz tomahawk steak, jumbo lump crab cake, broccolini, and au gratin potatoes. All of it reheated beautifully the next day. No dessert this time, unfortunately. Shoutout to the chef for stopping by our table. Food was good, great service by Eric and Todd. Food is pricey for the portions but normal steak house dinner. The ambiance is very dim but perfect for a romantic evening. It's a nice date night spot ambiance wise (dimly lit) but food overall is too salty for my taste. Parking is validated for 3 hours. Great service. - Their bread is sooo good. -Midnight in Paris- prob my fav thing we had. Pineapple pomegranate lime mocktail with ginger beer. - Oysters Marcel- roasted, was just ok. Some pieces of shells ended up inside so be careful. - Beef Wellington- have to preorder 24 hours ahead, a bit heavy on the horseradish/ herbs, but the beef was delish! The pastry is a tad salty. What a feast! That is the sentiment you will have departing Marcel after downing a beautifully marbled ribeye, cheesy potatoes, rich foie gras, and satisfying bone marrow. The service is theatre itself, with the servers having us do sherry through the bone marrow itself. What a great idea that was, I've started doing it at dinner parties! But so few people could create an environment with such gracious service or beautiful ambiance as Marcel has done. I was in Atlanta for a fun weekend with friends and sought the advice of locals on the best steakhouse. After hearing Marcel's name again and again, I made a reservation for last night. When our Uber dropped us off, I still wasn't sure if we were at the right place. Then I noticed a small sign with an M and a boxer on the second floor. So up the stairs we went. I'll say this, from the outside, this doesn't look like a great location, but once you enter the restaurant you are transported back in time to a European dinner theater. If you ever watched Mad Men, you could envision Don Drapper sipping a martini here. The restaurant is named after Marcel Cerdan, a French boxer and national hero who popularized beefsteak dinners. The design of the napkins, matchboxes and menus reference the boxer. Atlanta restauranteur Ford Fry is renowned for his collection of high-end restaurants and is the creative force behind Marcel. It has been opened since 2015. Each table is served by a waiter and a captain, decked out in a black tux. Sonny, our captain, was straight out of central casting. He had the French accent you'd expect in such a place. I just wish his review of the menu didn't take so long and he specified some of the house signatures. We started our meal with the bread service that was truly unique. It was served with prosciutto, whipped feta and olives. Next up were East and West Coast oysters with a variety of sauces. I still can't tell the difference, so I guess I need to eat more of each. I've heard that the Oysters Marcel, Steak Tartare and Bone Marrow are all awesome choices from the starter section. We ordered a split Salad Marcel and it seemed like it could have been split again. Huge portion. We had a hard time tasting the bacon vinaigrette. I wish I had seen the Onion Soup Gratinee below it and ordered that. When my wife and I dine at a steakhouse, we love to order a bone-in ribeye. Although that specific cut wasn't on the menu, the 30-ounce Tomahawk called our names. It arrived at the table still sizzling in its coating of butter. Perfectly grilled and sliced. Super flavorful and tender. For $100 less, you could try the amazing L'Entrecote, which is a ribeye cut with French fries. We were told the sides can serve two to three. I'd correct our Captain and say they could serve four to six. We ordered the Cauliflower Gratinee and our dining partners ordered the Pommes Dauphinoise, which Sonny said was the best of four potato options. It's basically potatoes au gratin. The crust on top was super yummy. I would say that the French fries and Bearnaise are supposedly the best in the city. Guess I'll need to order that next time. There were no lags in our service, nor were we looking for someone to refill our water glasses or take another cocktail order. I noticed a number of men dressed in suits that I assumed were managers, but they never stopped by our table to check in on us. To close out our evening we tried a variety of desserts, including the incredible Ten Layer Chocolate Cake, Crème Brulee and the Apple Pudding Cake. All were outstanding. Dined at Marcel for the first time. I went with a group of ladies for a Post-Bridal Shower dinner and I overall enjoyed it. Beautiful restaurant and the ambience is amazing. The service was top tier however took a while for the food to come out. The food was good--but maybe I was expecting to be floored as it has been considered one of the best restaurants in Atlanta but I would say it's still very good. Drinks were good and pretty strong. We had salad for starters. And for my meal, I had a steak. We ordered the asparagus and cacio e pepe pasta (which was amazing!). Would come back! read more

I visited Marcel last night for my birthday dinner. The service was some of the best I've had in Atlanta, thank to you Mark and Jaden for being so attentive and kind! The restaurant is gorgeous but the star of the show was definitely the food. Everything was good. The oysters were fresh, the bone marrow was rich and all of our entrees were amazing - there was not one complaint at our table. I definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions, date nights or even just a drink if you are in the area. read more

As a frequent visit and for one who doesn't care for service, the quality control of this restaurant is top notch. From the tea to appetizers to dry age to oysters, all are worthy of Michellen star. Usually not a fan of steak houses as it's more cost and taste efficient to grill at home but this is a cozy upscale place to visit with the dry age after taste that makes it hard to taste at home. read more

We came in to enjoy an overdue anniversary dinner, and it was absolutely unforgettable. The speakeasy style New York ambiance was exciting and immersive from the moment we walked in. The staff and service were exceptional--every single guest was treated like royalty, and it truly showed. The food was beyond delicious; every dish impressed us. Yes they do. They have a wood fire place out there to cut the chill off of you. They do have some heaters. But if its windy out- forget it.

Yes. I had a well behaved 4 year old with me.

No, I saw a lot of people in regular casual attire, We dressed up a bit but nothing too fancy.
