As others have mentioned, this place has a number of issues:…read more 1. Sanitation at Maple Valley Eye Care is extremely poor. You run a real risk of getting an eye and/or skin infection because they rarely clean the equipment. I routinely find hair and/or skin grease on the exam equipment and have never seen anyone clean anything voluntarily here. Read the reviews, and you'll see multiple reports of patients getting eye infections right after exams here. Shortly after an eye exam at Maple Valley Eye Care, I got a painful, chronic eye infection myself for the first time in my life, The technician physically shoved my face into the eye scanner without my consent, and soon after that I developed an eye infection. Of course when I came back to get the infection treated, the doctor acted like my getting an eye infection for the first time in my life right after visiting Maple Valley Eye Care was just a random coincidence that had nothing to do with their lack of sanitation or physically pushing my face into the scanner. 2. They do not treat patients with respect. Some of the technicians will physically shove a patient's face into the eye scanner equipment without consent. I am not the only person to report this. 3. They aggressively upsell, and have a tendency to add on expensive features to lens orders without explaining what they are or getting explicit patient consent. I have found items that I never asked for my added to my orders without my knowledge. They can also be careless, and make mistakes such as ordering the wrong frames, mistakes which are only corrected after being discovered by the patient. 4. Maple Valley Eye Care is expensive. Even with one of their "discounts", frames and lenses are still more expensive than you will find elsewhere. 5. They don't follow Washington State Law for optometrists (WAC 246-852-010). Specifically, they immediately shuttle patients over to the sales counter without issuing the prescription to the patient. By law, optometrists are required to immediately issue the prescription to the patient after the exam. Every time I have an exam here, they always make me go over to the sales counter to discuss purchases right away, and do not ever provide the prescription to me unless I ask for it, and even then they typically delay and will promise to email it to me later. In my experience, front desk staff typically resist issuing a printed prescription to a patient, and even after requesting it via email, will often "forget" to send it and have to be reminded.

Went in for an eye exam, and it was an extremely smooth process. The doc was extremely knowledgeable and even explained certain things about my eyes that no one has ever taken the time to do before. Other experiences I've had were all about getting you in and out as fast as they could, but not here. He took his time to explain what he was doing and why. I like that in a Doc. When I went to pick out my frames, my better half was not with me, and I typically always ask for her approval on something I liked. So, I went off the recommendation of the employee helping me (didn't grab his name). I tried several pairs on, and he said there was one that popped. Which was good because I liked it, but wasn't too sure. He said it was a a perfect fit and style for my noggin... so I went with it. Of course got all the upgrades, and let me tell you... I can't count on my toes and fingers, and yours too on how many compliments I got on these Holbrook Oakleys!! People loved it, my wife loved it, more importantly... I loved them! Overall, for my first experience with this place, it was a pleasant surprise and I found myself not dreading an eye exam and hunting for something I never am really satisfied with- until now. I am a loyal customer to Costco and a future patient with the optical dept. Pam needs re-training how to answer calls. I also work in the medical field... so if patients may have questions, specially pertaining to how to save a couple of bucks for lenses, help the member out nicely is the least you can do, Pam! Thank you for answering my question though, and yes you did save me a trip, but in the future, have the decency to be corteous enough over the phone. The gal on Saturday who had was professional and me was super helpful and even went above and beyond to write down a rough estimate on how much i needed to pay out of pocket. It was easy to schedule an appointment via text and I was in and out for an eye exam quickly yet also did not feel rushed. I have been to over a dozen optometrists having had bad eyesight for most of my life and having moved along the west coast multiple times. She almost looked annoyed to do her job?? I was kind of taken aback by her attitude. The optician proceeded to say "you have no bridge at all" in a rude manner almost insulting my looks. The doctor owners, the father and daughter duo, must train their staff better to be more culturally sensitive when working with Southeast Asian patients and not insult our racial features. Is the Optician racist? This was the only takeaway I had walking away from this experience. Not to mention the awkward front desk situation. They have two front desk people, when you are talking to one, the other front desk person just stare at you the whole time. I felt so insulted and racially profiled that I asked my husband to call and cancel my lenses with them. Also, how are lenses $240 after insurance?!!! My son has been coming every week for his contact lens training and they even know him by his 1st name now. The front desk personnel are friendly and accommodating and Dr. Wong is amazing as usual. She's very warm and great with kids! As long as customer service continues to be good like what we've been experiencing the past month, I highly recommend this place for your eye care needs! Located in my favorite plaza in Renton, Oceanclear has a plethora of frames. They have a variety of designer brands as well as high quality eyeglasses brands. I was impressed with the variety of styles and looks. It was quite easy to find a couple pairs that I would like. Dr. Wendy Kuo was amazing! I have hit and miss luck with optometrists lately but after my experience here I foresee me coming back. Dr. Kuo was informative, helpful, and very easy to talk to. She took what my ophthalmologist had told me and related it to the type of glasses that I required. I felt like I had dialogue with her instead of being talked at or rushed, which has been some of my recent experiences with optometrists (or really many in the medical field of all kinds). It was nice because I walked away with a better understanding of how to care for my eyes. Vincent took my initial check-in procedures (pressure test and what not) and he helped me select glasses. Will fully admit I was very uncertain about him in the beginning. He was so quiet - he didn't introduce himself or really explain any of the various tests we were doing or if they were good or bad results. When Dr. Kuo told me Vincent would help me pick out frames I really was skeptical. But once he was around me for five minutes he relaxed and gave fantastic advice! Vincent really helped me find the right look. The two frames I purchased I felt confident looked good on me and fit my face. I was super pleased! The eyeglasses arrived two weeks later and I received a voicemail and email letting me know they in. They were perfect! Pickup was a breeze. Highly recommend!
