Went to get my peeps checked, being new to the area I asked around and was told that Maple Valley Eye Care Center was the place to go. So I made an appointment. First impression was it was a clean, with a soothing ambiance flowing. Everyone there was knowledgeable, friendly and smiling. Wait wasn't long at all and, while you wait you can look at their large selection of eye glasses. Dr. Neal was great, he let me know what was going on as he did the exam, gave me some great options. Looks like I may have found my Eye Doctor. read more

My wife needed cataract surgery, and had the surgery with a recommended ophthalmologist in Bellevue. Every time my wife tried to communicate that she was still having vision problems post surgery, her concerns were completely ignored. We are going to have to follow up with the ophthalmologist because the doctors here won't listen to women. I'm watching my wife suffer, and the doctors just condescending express that "that will go away" while the problem continues to get worse. I honestly can't believe we still have doctors that completely ignore women trying to communicate a serious issue. My blood is boiling. read more

The staff is really great in person. However, my experience with their billing has been very frustrating. I had an appointment at the beginning of Jan 2024 and paid at the end of my appt. Then I received another bill at the end of Jan 2024 and it seemed to be the difference from the estimate of what insurance would pay and what they did pay. I paid this bill and thought that everything was settled. Then I got another invoice in November 2024 saying I owed more money. I called and the woman I spoke with said they'd waive the rest of the bill. Today I got another invoice saying I owe more money. This is absolutely ridiculous. How many times am I going to have to pay for the same appointment? Why am I still paying on a routine checkup a year later? read more

This was my second time here, and I promised myself I wouldn't go back but ended up doing just that. This last time, my bill was $290. $155 for Vision exam, $60 for Refraction and $75 for lens fitting. The first time I went there I got contacts and understood the "lens fitting". This time, my eyes hadn't changed which would have covered the "vision exam" but they still charged me for the Lens fitting, which no fitting was done. My prescription and type of contact lens were the exact same. The first time I went I had to pay $150 for contact lens training, on top of buying the contacts from them. A complete rip off. Dr. Neal is great, the office staff is rude, and obviously the pricing is ridiculous. Unless you have money to throw away, I would not recommend this establishment. read more

He had to be flown from Alaska to Seattle by medivac and in the rush we did not have time to get his glasses fitted with new lenses. We have been going to this establishment now since 2016. We don't complain much, but service has always been not the best, we go there for convenience and it's a nice facility. I just got a bill from back in January and I phoned to find out what was going on. Who...sends a bill out 7 months later then asks if you remember how and what you paid for? Now I'm back track trying to figure out what I did pay for?! Not only is service sub par, but they also try to upsell on everything. Also, instead of asking you if you want to pay the added cost to look at your eye health inst of the drops to dilate your eyes, they just do it and then you have an additional bill when you are done. Today was the last straw, sending me a bill 7 months later, as they blame the insurance company. Shame on them! read more

Oh that was a pleasant visit in there. I love everything about this clinic. From the ladies at front desk to the doctor, all are very pleasant to work with. Each of them were very patient and detailed and I got my readings done in no time. I was here 10 minutes early for an appointment and patiently waited. 28 minutes past my original time and after seeing 2 people obviously running behind for their appointment being rushed through, I checked in at the front desk. They had forgotten about my appointment. After bringing it to their attention, they still took someone else back before me. How that happens after completing paperwork and being early is beyond me. They took me back 40 minutes after my appointment time and said, it was miscommunication, but they had time to take me, as if they were doing me a favor. They need to do better. I shouldn't have returned after my first experience here. They had spelled my name wrong in the system and therefore was a huge issue with the subsequent billing for insurance which resulted in multiple back and forths. However, I had a positive experience with Dr. Montgomery so decided to give them another try. Fast forward a year later, I go in for an annual eye exam and to order some contact lenses. They were again very confused about my name-- which was still unchanged in the system despite several phone calls again pertaining to this issue. The technician takes me back to get my eye pressure and take some images- and I was shocked by her dismissiveness and how rude she was. I had mentioned that I was experiencing some increasing blurry vision with my right eye and she actually began arguing with me that it wasn't possible because they looked fine from the exam. Excuse me- are you a doctor?! lol. Why would I lie about my eye being blurry?! She then started arguing with me AGAIN because she said my last exam was a month ago. I very respectfully informed her that I in fact hadn't been in for over a year and that I think I would remember if I had been in a month ago for an eye exam. She continued to argue with me. At this point I'm like-- is this real life? I've never experienced this sort of treatment before in any medical office. Anyway, fast forward an hour later-- the doctor sees me and I go to check out... only to find that they didn't give me a prescription for my contacts-- the whole reason I went there in the first place. *face palm* Then, the same tech comes back and argues with me AGAIN that I never told her I needed contacts when I had mentioned it twice. At this point, I just wanted to leave. Let me place my order and go, right? Wrong. She then told me that I would have to call back in a week before my prescription could be approved. Fine. Whatever. Just get me out of here. Anyway, you'll have to beat me over the head with a metal bat before you'll find me back here. Never mind the wait- I'm going back to advanced eye care of Covington. They might have a long wait between appointments but at least they know what they're doing. read more

I experienced an unfortunate mishap on my mountain bike the other afternoon; peddling down a trail, I managed to locate an exposed twig with my eyeball (on the one day I left my safety glasses at home). It didn't hurt much at first, but as the evening went on, I could tell I was developing the tell-tale signs of a good scratch to my cornea. First thing in the morning, I called the vision clinic I usually go to, but due to Covid restrictions, they didn't have anyone available to conduct emergency appointments. Left a message. In desperation, I reached out to 'Maple Valley Eye Care Center'. Not only did they answer the phone (in person) right away, but immediately found room on their schedule for an urgent drop-in. I got in, turned out it was a good thing I came in right away; got started on a treatment plan, and was on my way in 30 minutes. The staff is very helpful & friendly, the doctor was highly capable; I'd definitely consider MV Eye Care for all of your vision needs. read more

I've been a patient here going on 5 years. I originally liked it here because they are right down the street from where I lived and they offer the Optomap which I appreciate since I used to work at an optometrist. The last couple years I've noticed a decline in service. They've got my contacts wrong two years in a row - even with them knowing I got Lasik and because of that I have very flat corneas. That was annoying, but I just dealt with it. The final nail in the coffin was I broke my pair of glasses I bought from them 3 years ago. I bought a new frame online (the EXACT frame) and brought it in to see if they could switch my lens into my new frame. The front desk lady tried for 15 seconds and told me that the lens were just a tiny bit too big for the new frame and that I'd need new lenses. I politely declined and took my new frames and lenses to Advanced Eye Care down in Covington and guess who put my lenses into the new frame? Yup. Thank you AEC! I'm not even a patient of yours and you still helped me. I will be a patient now though. read more

The first time my daughter and I went to Maple Valley Eye Care Center, it was great thanks to Dr. Neal. The second time, however, was not a pleasant experience because of the technicians. I asked a technician if it would take a long time for me to be seen as it was about 25 minutes after my appointment time, and no one had called me to the back. The technician apologized, yet she disappeared to the back for another while. At about 45 minutes, I approached a reception staff, Natasha, and told her someone else had apologized for having me wait, yet I hadn't been called yet. She laughed in my face and "apologized" in a mocking tone! I stood there in shock, looking at her, and kindly asked if there was someone else I could talk to. She looked at me for a moment with an annoyed look on her face, and still in a mocking tone and a smile on her face, she said, "No, I'm the only person here to help you." So unprofessional and rude. The place is nice, and the doctors are great, but I won't be back, thanks to that assistant. read more

So we've all been dealing with covid for 10 months. We ought to have this figured out, right? So why do I go in to the optometrist's office ad se the receptionist wearing her mask below her nose? I showed up for my appt and they didn't have me in the system. But they managed to squeeze me in with little wait time. Everyone was super nice, from the front desk, to the lady working all the gadgets (that machine doesn't blow in your eye anymore!), to Dr. Montgomery, to the lady helping me pick out glasses, and today when I picked up my glasses (they're perfect). Top notch service. The only thing I wasn't thrilled with is what others have mentioned, with the "hidden charge" part of the exam that is required, but not covered by insurance. It was only $40, but if I was on a fixed income I might have been a little less happy. Not enough to remove a star. read more

Fast, efficient and [mostly] friendly medical staff. Dr. Neal was kind and easy going.   There is a [new-to-me] fancy machine they have which takes photos of your retina so you do not need the drops for dialation. Technology these days, I tell ya'. I was pretty excited about it as I had prepared how the rest of my day would need to go after dialation. My problem, and reason for 4 stars, is they didn't tell me upfront that insurance does not cover said fancy inside picture of your eye [aka: "optomap retinal examination"] and you have to/are expected to pay out of pocket for it during checkout. When the [not-as-friendly] woman checked me out told me what I owed, it caught me off guard. She didn't even say what I owed for. My eye examinations are 100% covered by my already-expensive-insurance so coming out of pocket $39 was a surprise and rather frustrating. I had to ask her if the money due was for the retina picture to which she dryly replied, "yes, insurance won't cover it." I inquired further and without looking at me, she told me I could always opt out and would have to get drops. I wish this was indicated to me beforehand as I in fact, would have opted out and had the drops to save the $39. My husband had an appointment right after mine and what should have been a $0 visit for us both, ended up costing us $78. Would I go back? Eh, maybe. Maybe not. The front desk staff, technician and doctor were all very welcoming and nice. The woman who checked me out wasn't the most polite, and was very to the point. I asked my husband what he thought, as he checked out separately from me, and he said she was dry and not very personable [like the other staff was]. Summary: The staff was mostly nice but I feel it's a little dirty not telling patients in advance that they will owe money for the optomap examination - but! you could opt out for the drops/dialation which insurance DOES cover. I've never thought to inquire at an optometrist about hidden fees but [I suppose] I do now. read more

Visited MVECC for my annual eye exam and as usual, Dr. Neal & staff were outstanding. Dr. Neal is extremely personable and professional. Took the time giving me a thorough eye exam and decided to tweak my contact lens prescription just a tad (astigmatism). Don't be surprised if you think you've got an appointment made, confirmed via email and texts, then get to your "scheduled" appointment and you get the "oh I'm sorry but we don't see any appointment for you". Super rude front desk ignoring me and helping other people, and lady that was helping me with my order made me feel like I couldn't afford it. The quote I got one week ago was around 150-200$ so I had them hold that order and I'd come back and pay it and process the order. I come back and the lady helping me with my order said it was 400 dollars and I was so confused and all she wanted to know was who would give me that estimate and that it was so wrong but I told her I couldn't afford it and I was expecting it to be less than 200. I am on my 5th follow up appointment for my reader glasses that I ordered over 2 months ago now. Very slow and long waits when I have gone in to check on my glasses. My last visit I waited over 45min and when I asked the receptionist when someone would be available she was very rude and sharp. This receptionist has also been rude on the phone when I have called to check in on glasses that were suppose to arrive over a month ago. I wanted to complain to the manager but I was tired of waiting. I will be going else wear for my next frames. read more

Overall good experience with the doctor, she explained very nicely and was thorough with her exam too. The retinal eye picture (a new thing) saves you from dialating but they do not say that its not covered by insurance, which is a bit odd. I already pay for my eye insurance just for the exams, I do not even wear glasses and have perfect vision. I did not expect that I will have to pay out of pocket. If they made it clear, I would have gone for dialation instead. Anyways, at the checkout as well, the checkout lady was not cordial at all. She was to the point and did not bother to explain what is the out of pocket $39 about. When I asked, she responded as if it was my fault to not know about that. read more

While I really like Dr. Montgomery, the rest of the staff at Maple Valley Eye leaves a lot to be desired. Between myself and my children we've had multiple issues with the glasses we've bought and each time the office staff has blamed it on the lab that they order from. Find another lab? It's ridiculous. They technicians seem incapable of adjusting eyeglasses competently, recently they completely ruined my daughters lenses while completing a simple adjustment. On top of all of that, the prices at this office are very high and they don't explain a lot of the charges. Obviously we won't be going back. read more

This place is bizarre and unhelpful -- got a prescription a while back, still perfectly valid, I didn't have it written down, but wanted to get a new pair of glasses to freshen things up, so I called. The receptionist was instantly hostile, said that I wouldn't be able to get it filled (there are plenty of websites that do this), and had to be prodded to get any numbers. She initially only gave a few (?) -- but then I prodded more and got an additional number (?) but I couldn't get the axis number out of her before she hung up. This put a horrible taste in my mouth and I'll be going, and paying, elsewhere to actually get my full prescription. read more

I have been overdue for my eye exam and had received two reminders from MV Eye Care Center. I was glad to have received the reminder and used the online appointment request for 5:00pm. They changed this to 4:30, which caused me to leave work early, but that's okay, I worked it out. On the way, there was an accident on the freeway, so I called while driving to tell them I'd be about 10 min late. The gal on the phone hesitated and said that being 10 minutes late could pose a problem, that maybe I could come on Monday. I told her that I had already left work early this day for this, that because of their early hours, I could not do this again soon. She then asked me to confirm my insurance, they had looked me up and saw that I no longer had my previous carrier. I told her that my employer now has OptiCare; she put me on hold for a few min, returned and said that they are not a provider for that carrier. I told her that it was fine, MVECC had my previous records, could I come 10 minute later? She said no. She just lost two clients (my husband also goes to that office), cash paying customer. I am the Director of an MCO in WA and value treating members and patients with dignity and respect, going the extra mile and providing a culture of "no wrong door" to our members. After posting this, I will go to Yelp and any other site to spread the word about the poor service and unwillingness to stretch yourself for an established member at MVECC. Last, their online appointment system is a complete fail. My husband requested a Friday appointment with them, which they accepted and confirmed. He shows up at the appointment and the staff say "oh, the doctor doesn't work on Fridays". The system asks you to put your three different dates/times for an appointment, and they're supposed to get back to you with one of them confirmed. In this online world, get a better system. Shame on your staff, Sir. I will be heading to Advanced Eye Care of Covington. read more
