I am in awe at the amazing customer service, patience and overall outstanding experience I received at I Care Optical. I visited this past Tuesday for my yearly visit and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and kind. I never feel rushed or that my business isn't appreciated. Dr. Lim is a complete gem who goes the extra mile to explain everything and make sure I understand my options. This was especially important as I changed to contacts after being a life long glasses wearer. Dr. Lim was incredibly patient and explained everything to me in a way that made me feel comfortable choosing contacts. What's great about I Care Optical is they offer a service that will teach you how to put on/remove your contacts. My new best friend in my mind Shaylin (not sure if I spelled it right) spent almost an hour helping me get the hang of contacts. She was super patient and never made me feel bad for not picking it up right away. On top of everything, the glasses/sunglasses selection is the best around. Very expensive! I ordered contacts needed two separate orders due to scripts, the left one had a (water mark stamp) or it cause me to not be able to see! I called the office want was told (by a front desk person) you need to clean them before wearing! Seems pretty obvious since I have been wearing contact for 30+ years. Called again and was told I needed to speak to the office manager, Patricia, I've left three messages for her to call me! And nothing! They are getting one star because I to work in a service field and I believe that everyone deserves a call back! read more

In one situation where I had an issue with my vision from overuse of contacts, he planned an intervention and change of eye care that helped to make quick and long term changes. I have been a patient of I Care Optical for 20 years, since before Dr. Lim owned the practice. Since he took over, my family and I have always been very pleased--he's personable, kind, professional (we enjoy chatting with him about travel, kids, and technology--he seems to be a lovely guy) and his staff has always been knowledgeable and helpful. Sadly, our most recent visit was not pleasant experience.   On the day of the appointment, we arrived, filled out our paperwork, but were sad to learn that our insurance was no longer accepted.  I was disappointed, because I liked them and I had been a patient for such a long time. One of the receptionists said that we should have been told about this when we made the appointment and she apologized for that omission.    We had a conversation about our options and the young receptionist said that we can still have our exam, paying just the co-pay but she can't bill our carrier for refraction (required to get a Rx). Since my husband doesn't need corrective lenses and I already have several pairs, we opted out of that service.  The main objective for us was to minimize the cost out of pocket--which we made explicitly clear.  Since we liked I Care and because, based on their explanation, we chose to stay for the exam sans refraction.  Everything went fine, the doctors who examined us were great, and we both had healthy sets of eyes.    However, a month or so later, we received a bill to the tune of almost $300.  We called the office to inquire and they said they had told us that they'd bill to our medical insurance, not our vision insurance.  This may be what they meant to explain, however, it was not our understanding.  The way it was described, they could not bill our eye insurance for the refraction service, hence refusal to have it, they did not tell us that the whole service was unbillable.   If we had known that, wouldn't logic follow that'd we'd refuse the whole service, not just a portion?   After speaking to the reception staff, they retained that a note had been made in the file stating they explained this, however, what was said and how it was interpreted is subjective.  I believe that if the file is going to enforce an extemporaneous but binding agreement (which is how they are treating this) said note should be acknowledged and approved by the patient.  I will not argue what is written in the standard intake forms (I know now that there is a section regarding insurance coverage) however, impromptu notes could say or mean anything, so it is only fair to ensure that both parties hold an equal understanding.   Further, I must also take issue with how my husband was treated when pursuing answers and attempting to clarify the situation. He called three different times to speak to the billing specialist, each time being promised a return call which never came.  Only on that third attempt did he get through to her, at which point, she held firm to the charges. When he finally relented but complained about her responsiveness, she laughed at him and said "Do you want me to hang up and call you back so you can feel better?" As someone who appreciates a bit of snark, I can see a similar quip running through my own head; but as someone who has worked in customer service, this degree of disrespect and condescent is unacceptable.    A few days (and a few more unreturned calls) later, we finally got a hold of Dr. Lim.  He, too, held firm to the charges.  However, and this is probably the greatest disappointment was when my husband relayed the rude comment made by the employee, he himself laughed and never offered anything close to an apology for her attitude. As a manager, I know that trust is an imperative for running a team, so on some level, I understand and admire his willingness to defend his staff.  However, I can also take responsibility for the shortcomings of my employees and use incidents like these as teachable moments.   For example: Perhaps more can be done to enhance understanding of insurance coverage and how best to explain it to patients. Further, as a "C.Y.A.", if ad hoc notes are made in patient files, especially notes indicating a covenant of some sort, have the patent read and initial it.  And lastly, no matter how irritated you may be, no matter how "personal" it may feel, your professionalism and customer service is paramount.   Return patient phone calls, and though you may disagree, please be respectful.   I'm not going to continue to argue about the money, though we both maintain that the staff account of the conversation is not concurrent with our recollection or nor with logic. I will, however, implore Dr. Lim to coach his staff on some of the aforementioned so that hopefully in the future, they and other patients can be spared the same kind of discontent. read more

I was running a bit late for my appointment and so I called to notify them that I was on my way to get there but no one picked up the phone and so I left a message on their answering machine. Five minutes later the secretary called me and told me that I have to be there in five minutes otherwise I have to reschedule my appointment, told her that I won't make it in five minutes but probably ten minutes, but she wasn't accommodating enough and told me to pick another day instead. I got there 15 minutes late of my appointment and the place was not busy only one customer and yet secretary still would not accept me even when I told her that I came from another doctors appt. I like the doctors here but their front desk secretary is not accomodating as if they are so busy which they are not. When I have my first visit there I have to wait for 20 minutes to be seen by the doctor and I didn't complain but now that I'm only 15 minutes late got rejected and asked to be rescheduled. I will be looking for another place that is more welcoming and accomodating. read more

Dr. Lim is great, very nice guy and I trust him 100% with my eyes, I've seen him a number of times now and it's always been great! BUT, unfortunately I can't say the same for his staff! I called and made an appointment and gave the person all my insurance information, they called me the day before my appointment and said I wasn't insured, so I called my insurance and told them what eye care told me and they said they talked to eye care and gave them my insurance info, and told me what and how much my coverage was. I called eye care back and they said to call back in the morning because the person that handles the insurance has gone home for the day. I called back the next morning and they told me they still didn't have my insurance info, so I called my insurance company again and they told me that eye care called earlier and got my info for the second time. So, I called eye care back and they said yes they do have my insurance info. I went in for my appointment, Dr. Lim was great and I decided to get a new pair of glasses with my new prescription, so I picked out the new frames sat down with the girl to order the new glasses and she tells me my insurance only covers $150 total for lenses and frames. My insurance covers $450 total and I told the girl that, and she said that it only covers $150! Needless to say I went home without ordering the glasses and called my insurance AGAIN and they told me , I was covered for $450! Because of all of this, I'm not sure if I will be going back. read more

Staff was pleasant and very accommodating. They ordered a set of frames they didn't have so I could see what they looked like in another color. The optometrist was fast and informative. I didn't get the frames due to cost being so high and I just was looking for a spare pair at the time. If I end up needing frames I'll probably get them from here. read more

This was my second appointment at I Care Optical. I had a terrible experience both times and here's why; the first time I went to pick up my glasses the bifocal measurement was way off so I had to wait an additional week and a half to get them fixed, an entire month I had to wait. The second time the same thing occurred and again I have to wait, having already waited two weeks, and to top it all off the young lady helping me had the nerve to ask me "how bad do you need them?" There seemed to be no urgency at getting this solved or apology that this has happened again. If you want hassle free service I would avoid I Care Optical at all cost, I know I will read more

We recently moved to Eastern WA, but decided to keep I Care Optical as our eye doctor/eyeglass specialists! We've been going to this office for over 20 years and when Dr. Johnson retired, we were excited to meet Dr. Lim. As the years have gone by and Dr. Lim has added other doctors, my husband and I have seen them all and they are fabulous! As a cancer patient, Dr. Lim was quick to send me to a Retina Specialist when I had some problems with blurring. Another constant to good doctors is the incredible office staff...they are the best! As the office has grown (along with the Kent population!), we have always been able to schedule necessary appointments and appreciate the reminders they send. They are knowledgeable, friendly, outgoing and maybe one of the most important aspects...amazing at suggesting the best frames...and the selection is outstanding. I have sent many friends to this office and they're all regular patients now! With covid, the office staff practices the safest measures and requires that of patients. Each frame I tried on was set aside, in a separate box to be sanitized, before returning to the display. I can't say enough about this wonderful office! They're totally worth the 4 hour drive! read more

Had a not good experience with billing department, be aware they can send you to collections company over a few dollars, no phone calls, no last paper with warning, you just getting phone calls from collection agency, not good customer service at all, I will never come back to this office, even though I like my doctor read more

Very unfriendly front desk and bad customer service. Made me wait 6 weeks more for my glasses because they ordered a previous lense and I wanted the exact same lenses that were in my glasses because they were scratched. Thet made me wait another 6 more weeks due to bad communication on their end and telling me I would just mail in my glasses once they were done making the new lenses because I live out of town. So I did that and i get a call from them 6 weeks later asking me when im going to be sending in my glasses. Turned out they sent no order into the lab and I waited for nothing. And then after that I ended up with pink tinted lenses rather than the clear color i sent to them to replace. They couldn't even send into the lab my order properly when they had my glasses in their hot little hands to go by the color and everything. When I talked to office staff about these issues they were completely rude and managers refused me a full refund. Then waited six more weeks to get clear ones. I was out of glasses for a half a year because of their mistakes. The Drs are awesome just none of the office staff are. The manager even took her word back because at first she says i could have the new pair of glasses and keep my pink onces but then changed her mind and said I had to mail the pink ones back. All around bad communication and lies. You might as well be non existent as a customer because they dont care about communication or making it right. read more

The staff is friendly and easy to get through to on the phone lines. They greet you with a smile when you walk in and they have a small children's area with toys. The eye doctor takes time to listen to your concerns and thoroughly explain procedures and answers all questions. read more

Just went in for my check up and I have to admit I was impressed with all the high tech updates they made to the place as all the equipment looked very state of the art. And as always the staff was very pleasant and accommodating and while it's a bit out of my way to get there its definitely worth the drive. I was diagnosed with cataracts with my current optometrist at Valley Medical Center.. for some odd reason, the past 5 years I have been here it was undetected.. This goes to show that the person who normally checks my eyes is not experienced enough especially since he has over 9 years of experience.. Cataracts is normally due to genetics and my grandpa had it in his right eye and I too also have it in my right eye. Not time for surgery yet but I am looking into it for the next 5-6 years if it worsens. read more

Little gem in Kent! The location of this place does not do it justice. It's not a pretty area, but the facility is great. It's professional, comfortable and modern. Dr. Lim and staff were very friendly and helpful at I Care Optical. I really liked that they could compare my new vision to when I was in last to see how much my eyes have changed. He took a picture of the inside of my eye and put to rest my concerns about floaters and light flashes. Appreciated that they calculated out my costs after insurance so I could decide whether to get one or both my frames done as I was reusing them. Will gladly go back! read more

I eas referred to this place by my eye place for my sons glasses, the Receptionist was very rude! Gave caty remarks everytime I asked simple questions. Both times I went there. I didn't see her name but she looked to be Hispanic. I loved the doctor who helped my son. But the front desk girl was more worried about her conversations rather than trying to answer my questions. I will not be returning anymore, only to pick up my sons glasses this one time and thats it. read more

My experience with icare optical has been exemplary!!! I am half way through (one eye) having cataracts cleared n lenses put in to bring me to 20-20 in both eyes!!! The folks are friendly, competent, great with the insurance paperwork and all around pleasurable to work with!! Don't let obviously personally directed bullying impact your decision about this place. The girl upfront need to be fired! My dad, 75 year old who has very bad insurance and is not in the best financial situation was not seen at their office because the receptionist told him he will have to pay for his visit. And it's AFTER I provided them with my credit card and specifically TOLD THEM I will take care of the bill. How stupid do you have to be? I've done business with this firm for decades. It was awesome when Dr. Johnson was there. Unfortunately, Dr. Johnson retired, and Dr. Lim took over the practice. Yes, they have all the fancy equipment in the world to do the exams with, but it does no good if the doctor is incompetent to prescribe eyeglasses that work for the patient. I wear bifocals. With Dr. Johnson at the helm, I was able to pass every driver's license eye test for 52 years. All of a sudden, Dr. Lm takes over and I can't pass the eye test to save my life. The only change I made was changing doctors!! There is a Fred Meyer store across the street. Dr. Johnson's prescriptions allowed me to see the Fred Meyer sign in clear, high-definition vision. With Dr. Lim's prescriptio0ns, I can't even see the sign. If I didn't know it was a Fred Meyer sign, I would have no idea what I was looking at. I love the beautiful angels that work in this place (a special shout out to the super-amazing Brie), but please consider using another doctor. I do not recommend this place at all, as long as Dr. Lim owns the practice!! read more
