I needed new glasses and wanted frames that I would love wearing everyday. My insurance doesn't cover too many independent locations, so I was pleasantly surprised to find Oceanclear Eyecare on the list and that the Yelp reviews were so high. And deservedly so! Located in my favorite plaza in Renton, Oceanclear has a plethora of frames. They have a variety of designer brands as well as high quality eyeglasses brands. I was impressed with the variety of styles and looks. It was quite easy to find a couple pairs that I would like. Dr. Wendy Kuo was amazing! I have hit and miss luck with optometrists lately but after my experience here I foresee me coming back. Dr. Kuo was informative, helpful, and very easy to talk to. She took what my ophthalmologist had told me and related it to the type of glasses that I required. I felt like I had dialogue with her instead of being talked at or rushed, which has been some of my recent experiences with optometrists (or really many in the medical field of all kinds). It was nice because I walked away with a better understanding of how to care for my eyes. Vincent took my initial check-in procedures (pressure test and what not) and he helped me select glasses. Will fully admit I was very uncertain about him in the beginning. He was so quiet - he didn't introduce himself or really explain any of the various tests we were doing or if they were good or bad results. When Dr. Kuo told me Vincent would help me pick out frames I really was skeptical. But once he was around me for five minutes he relaxed and gave fantastic advice! Vincent really helped me find the right look. The two frames I purchased I felt confident looked good on me and fit my face. I was super pleased! The eyeglasses arrived two weeks later and I received a voicemail and email letting me know they in. They were perfect! Pickup was a breeze. Highly recommend! read more

Love love love. Everyone is so welcoming and nice. The staff are really sweet and understanding with everyone. I recently went for an update on my prescription and I'm so happy to learn that after two years, everyone is still wonderful. The environment is very comfy but pretty and organized. I brought my mother as a new patient this time and she loved her experience. Dr. Andy Lai is very nice and really funny. He made the appointment really easy and he made me really excited to be able to see clearly. He explained everything to me and helped both me and my mom feel at ease by the way he spoke. Well I came here because they had good reviews and looked like a decent place. I originally came in because I had concerns about my eyes, after my apt they told me I'm fine, nothings wrong when there's clearly something wrong my eyes are bloodshot red, getting discharge and glossy, & watering. After paying out of pocket to tell me nothings wrong, just last weekend the same thing happens to my other eye, not even a month apart from it happening to my other eye, I had to re-pay to see another optometrist who actually gave me a treatment and my blood vessels in my eyes are bloodshot and there tearing and dry spots on my eyes, the doctor had to write me a steroid prescription you can only get over the counter, and also scheduled me a follow up appointment in regarding my infected eye. Which made me feel like they actually cared, and wanted to make me feel safe.Which this place did not do. But charged me more than the place that actually treated me and my eye infection which this place and doctors told me my eye was perfectly fine, if it was I wouldn't be here with another same infection in my other eye. But can I get my money back tho...so I can use it toward my actually treatment and prescriptions that I need now. I wouldn't give such bad review, but I didn't forget when I was the first apt in the morning and the equipment had makeup and residue from Previous patients or day before...and politely had to ask the lady to please clean the equipment......other than that the place is fairly new looking and the waiting area is neat and tidy and clean. read more

I have been to this clinic twice and had a good experience both times. The staff were casual, but professional. I'll be really honest here, at first I was skeptical of the doctor because she seemed almost too young (me equating that to inexperience), but it could not be farther from the truth! She was very knowledgeable, experienced and professional. She was also honest with me about my eye condition and recommended I see a specialist BEFORE I spend money on upgrading my contacts and glasses prescription. We have been with this clinic for over the last few years and unfortunately I have to discontinue going there because yes their accounting system is problematic and I was told my exam was completely covered at the time I scheduled the appointments for my son and myself. After the service was provided I received a bill which I have to pay 50% of the cost which I never did before and they finally told me because I had secondary insurance over the last few years. If that's the case, why don't they told me before my appointment? I feel like I am being scammed because as consumers I have the right to know how much I need to pay before the service was provided. read more

My son has been coming here regularly for years. Recently, his glasses frame broke due to bad quality, made by Oceanclear. They told us we have to pay $80+tax for a replacement. Really !?! Oh man, this place is so stylish it belongs in New York or L.A. I'm not sure which. But, definitely not the kind of place you expect to see tucked away in Renton. So, let me tell you the random story of how I ended up getting a pair of Kate Spade frames here: I have a friend with disabilities, who uses a wheelchair, and is on Washington State managed medicaid. Unfortunately, his life hasn't provided for him the same opportunities as mine, so unlike me he hasn't had access to medical care. While I've been helping out with achieving more stability in his life, one of our tasks was finding him an eyecare provider. It has been about seven years since he had seen an optometrist. I called a lot of offices seeking someone in the Renton area to see him and was met either with an "Ugh, Medicaid" turnaway or an acceptance with a serious dose of attitude that let me know he was not going to get good care. Nope - not going to take him to a place with attitude and no sympathy that sometimes life doesn't work out perfectly for every person (especially from the receptionist! WHAT? as if you're the one being reimbursed!). When I called Oceanclear the person I spoke to was incredibly nice and scheduled my friend to be seen the very soon even though he's on Coordinated Care of Washington. We met Dr.Kuo. She was also incredibly nice. And my friend got the eyeglasses prescription he had been sorely needing for years. I don't know if it's that they didn't have any Medicaid approved frames or they just assumed he wanted to order the frames online as he asked for the pupillary distance. I'm a Dr.Paul Farmer junkie, "Infections and Inequality", "commitment to public health" person -so - not that I always choose my providers based on their commitment to public health but, Dr. Kuo's attitude, on top of her taking Medicaid, created serious positive notes in my book. I have private health insurance and also needed new glasses, so, even though I live out of state and am only in the Seattle area episodically, I felt like this place was definitely going to be the right place to go. I also believe that most good you do in the world works its way back to you. So, I wanted to support a business that supported my friend. [As for my experience]: [Dr.Wendy] The coolest! In addition to my glasses I also maintain a contact prescription. I had previously had my contact prescription changed (against my will) in the last year by a very insistent optometrist that raised my script two ticks (-3.00 to -3.50) despite my saying that that prescription "felt weird" and later would go on to give me headache. Dr. Wendy reduced it to a much more tolerable -3.25. And I'm proud to say I'm seeing clearly, reading normally, and not at all bothered with headaches while doing so! There was also no weird pressure for the letters I inevitably read wrong or any issues around scripting lenses despite my astigmatism. Total good experience all around. [Office Staff] My experience here was a little mixed. Manager Nita and the other assistant (didn't catch her name) were super friendly. However, having previously experienced the "typing-unclarified-sums-into-calculator" syndrome optometrist offices often suffer from, I brought a print out of my most current benefit information my insurer's website. including the maximum a participating office can charge for each additional add on. "Somehow", despite the other assistant getting the insurer's binder that listed prices, minimum and maximum for add ons, the amount Nita added up on the calculator and then paper was more than the insurer agreement re:charges. I pointed this out and Nita proceeded to redo the math multiple times until she said "Ugh. I can't do math today." and pushed the paper away to the other assistant to add. The engineer in me cringed. Math is essential! I really didn't want to cause a controversy during an experience that had otherwise been really positive though. I do not believe that in the end I was overcharged but, this was certainly not the most seamless checkout experience I've ever experienced. Kudos to the other assistant for taking over and apologies I do not remember your name. In the future, a computer billing program that itemizes add-on's on the bill, as per individual insurer, would be greatly appreciated. Commercial products like this already exist. This wouldn't allow for "wiggle" room in adding up the bill, which I'm sure is a negative from a profit perspective. But, it would facilitate consumer trust in the office, as well as the ability to compare the bill to the maximum amount allowable by insurance. I like to be fabu-less on a budget. But, I'm still on a budget and already pay for insurance I have every intent on using! [Overall impression]: A++. I love this place. If I'm still traveling to the greater King county area next time I need glasses I will surely be back. Dr. Kuo is top-notch and I'm going to chalk the billing up to a snafu this time. read more

I have been a patient with Dr. Kuo since soon after she opened her practice. I'm in late middle age and she's young, so my main hope is that she practices long enough that I never have to have another optometrist. She is kind and friendly. She LISTENS to everything you want to discuss, asks further questions, then gives suggestions for addressing everything to make your vision issues better. She then writes a prescription (or 2) that will best meet your needs. Last year after our discussions, I got both a general-use pair, and another prescription to use for some specialty work I do. I have LOVED those. In 2017 I realized that my new insurance plan didn't include her as in-network. I actually changed back to my old plan partly because I wanted her as my optometrist. I was due in November, but waited until January so the new year would kick in and I could see her. I think that's a pretty strong testimonial. Yes, she's young, and VERY smart. She is building a strong business as well as providing great care. I'm impressed with her, and you will be too. As a note, office staff and administrative procedures are all friendly and smooth. read more

Bad phone support. Got disconnected trying schedule an appointment. As an existing patient, I'm surprised that no one has called me back. I even called and left a message requesting a call back over two hours ago. I'm still waiting for the phone call from the office. How does a place stay in business if they cannot and do not want to take care of patients' calls in a timely fashion. Don't go here. There are tons of eye clinics and you are better off going elsewhere for your eye care needs. An office doesn't care to get patients in, is not an office I want to be at. read more

Called in 2 wks ago to place an order for my daughters contacts. Called to ask about status on contacts. They said that I never placed an order. Person that answered the phone "Angel" was reading the notes on my daughters account first saying, "...called to place an order" and then she retracted and said that it read "...called and wanted to place an order". Completely rude, way different from the last couple of years. I asked to place an order, I was only now told that my daughters prescription had expired. Last time I visited the office was in 2014 and it used to be pretty good (maybe 3.5 stars) But I recently visited the office and the receptionist and the optometrist were TERRIBLE. I had to contact 4 times just to get the information on the glasses I purchased and also emailed them through their website but they reacted like this was my first contact every time I called and of course they never check their emails. And their attitude was terrible too. I told them I've been contacting about this question and they were like "ok ok whats your question" and I asked "you dont have the memo?" and they just went "nope! so whats your question??"... Dr. Wendy is one of favorite eye doctors in the area. She's super quick and easy but also careful and thorough with her check ups. I first came here due to very itchy eyes. It was the result of staring too long at a screen with not enough sleep (yay to working full-time while getting a master's degree). While there were no bookings available, since it was a medical issue, I was able to get checked right away. Dr. Kuo carefully assessed my irritation, explained the temporary condition going on in depth, and prescribed me with some eye drops and not wearing contacts. The turnaround time was about 3 weeks, and by 2 weeks my eyes were feeling nearly back to normal! Since then, I've also gotten my annual eye checkup and ordered contacts. The appointment went well, with Dr. Kuo taking time to check whether my vision may have changed in one eye by letting me try on a couple of contact prescriptions during my appointment. Her attention to detail is superb and much appreciated. Ordering the contacts was very easy as well; just order during your appointment or over the phone and pick it up in a few business days. Nice staff, amazing service, with a very modern waiting area. Dr. Kuo is extremely knowledgeable. And what I appreciate most is how informative she is, answering any questions I have by providing a lot of information. Happy to call this my primary eyecare clinic! read more
