I like going here for just plain custard but they don't have much of a variety of flavors. I like to change things up and the only real flavor you can get here is vanilla. It does advertise that the custard is fat free though. I would have liked if there were other choices. The custard is not too flavorfulI. I would recommend getting some kind of gelato, topping or getting a flurry with peanut butter cups or something in it. Hands down, Maple Shade Custard Stand has THE BEST soft serve in this area. I say this as a former employee (summer job in college) and a lifelong customer. My sister worked one or two summers there during college as well and shares my opinion. Sundaes, milk shakes, flurries (soft ice cream blended with toppings of your choice), water ice, homemade chocolate covered bananas, chipwiches and ice cream sandwiches are just some of the things you can get every day of the week and any time of year. BEST LOW-FAT CUSTARD EVER! I stopped at this place for the first time a month or so ago. I wanted to go to Rita's, but my nephew wanted to go to MSCS, so we stopped there. I ordered a gelati with the low fat (80% fat) custard. I took one bite (well, spoonful) of the custard and asked if it was REALLY low fat. Once I was assured it was, I dug right in. The water ice is fresh and sweet, but not OVERLY sweet. In fact, I didn't realize just how sweet Rita's ice was until I tried MSCS. I stopped there yesterday afternoon, and it was just as good as before...YUM! Plus, it smelled so yummy - I think they were baking the waffle cones. Oh, and the prices are great! I cannot believe I am the first person to review this place. Okay, the custard stand has been in Maple Shade longer than I've been alive. It is a landmark. Years ago they were only open in the summer, but they are open all year round. They do amazing business, mostly local business. There is ALWAYS a crowd waiting for ice cream on hot summer evenings. They sell soft-serve ice cream as the "featured item", but they also have traditional hard-scoop ice cream. They have an extensive menu with things like chocolate covered bananas, water ice, ice cream sundaes, milk shakes, and flurries. Of course they have a huge variety of toppings as well. The prices are great. There is outdoor seating at picnic tables and a big parking lot to accomodate the crowds. read more

I've been here quite a few times over the past couple of years. I'm not a local, but I'm local enough to try out stores in the area. The ice cream is really creamy and thick, and they give you so much!! I always go for a cup instead of a cone simply because I can't finish the monster in time. It always seems like I have to bring half of it back home for the next day. The parking lot is kinda small (well, it's sorta big for a 'stand' but not dedicated to parking), and the local drivers are kinda crazy, so I'd suggest parking up the road, or in the parking lot behind the acme and just walk down. It's a 'stand' in that there's no indoor area or seats, but it's really a small building. It's not going anywhere like a food truck might. read more

Went for the Vanilla custard because the business is named Maple Shade Custard Stand. Was fantastic. Great value, located on an easy to access corner. Pretty much the best ice cream place in town. They open later during the summer I think (11pm), whereas they close at 10pm during the fall and winter, so if you have some late night cravings, is a spot to stop by. This was what I have been looking for in this area :) I'm from the shore and after moving to the area I've been badly missing my independent soft serve ice cream stand. I took the reviews here to heart, and went looking for this place on a 85 degree afternoon for some cool creaminess. Plenty of parking and I was promptly greeted with a friendly hello. The choices and prices were clear and my questions were answered promptly and well. I received my chocolate cone neatly made so quickly I was surprised. It was everything I could have wished for and the ice cream was very good quality and very reasonably priced. The reviews here are true. The float I ordered the next time I went was a really nice made combination of my choice of soda and soft serve ice cream. Everything is good quality and made with care. I'll be back here for sure. Excellent "custard" (I call it soft serve ice cream, but they call it custard). I had the chocolate cone, but it was the thickest, creamiest soft serve I have ever had. Delicious. I also tried my friend's flurry which was chocolate custard with reese's peanut butter cups. Also outstanding. This place was packed and everything looked good. They had so many options it was hard to decide what to try, and the prices were extremely reasonable, especially for the quality. I've had Mr. Softee & Rita's but nothing matches the creamy texture of their soft serve. Their banana splits are to die for & I used to go there for a :"Banana split lunch" during the summer. Their custard is the best tasting I've had in years. The consistency is just right. Most places mix in so much air that the custard's consistency is too light and fluffy. Not Maple Shade Custard Stand. The hot fudge and wet-walnuts are also great. It reminds me of a mom & pop custard stand in the town where I grew up.
