What a horrible experience, not only was the bartender rude and made a horrific margarita, she had our debit card for over 10 minutes as we watched her at her monitor trying to run the card and writing down things on a notepad. Very odd. We have been watching our account for any unknown charges. Then ended up charging us too much and then gave us the cash back !! She was an old bitty that should have retired long ago! There have been two times now when we visit this place, where the bartender Rony won't kick people out or call the police when people get off control. It is very uncomfortable seeing people acting like crazy, psychically fighting and bartender (person in charge) won't do anything. More like 7-8 stars alone for Mike, the singing bartender! This guy is amazing! He was welcoming and attentive as soon as I went up to the bar to order our drinks, which happened to also be at the same time the kj was handing him the mic to sing the next song. I ordered 2 long islands and he started making the drinks AND started singing his karoke song! He did not skip a beat to either task! Not only can he sing but he makes strong drinks! I gave him a $5 tip and a $20 bill to cover the drinks, and walked away. A few minutes later he came over to our table and said that I gave him a $50 bill, not a $20, which he figured I meant to give, and gave me my change back. He just earned all of my respect!!!! The tables felt like they had maple syrup on 'em, but the bar seemed clean, otherwise. No food offerings. Smokers patio, darts, tvs, and a hunting video game available. The kj host has a great voice and seems fair about the rotation of singers. She doesn't have a song book to choose from though, and the Saturday night we went, she had some technical difficulties. Great dive bar find! Very unassuming exterior, but everything you'd want in a dive bar inside. Good service, cold beers, reasonable prices, and a nice cozy vibe. Went here for drinks to catch up w/ an old friend and it was perfect - grabbed a table along the wall and was able to just relax and have a few drinks with no stress. Karaoke is great. The Friday night bartender Rachel is the most awful bartender I've ever had the displeasure of being served by. Last night was actually the second horrendous experience I had here on a Friday night with her. On both occasions Rachel was visibly drunk and/or drinking behind the bar, was incredibly slow and was incredibly rude to customers including cussing at them and mocking them with her friends who were so overserved one tried to light a cigarette in the middle of the bar. The first time I came to this bar was right around New Year's Eve. I've always been the frumpy wallflower. It was karaoke night and I was able to forget about everything and just relax and have fun. It's now almost March and when it's been a long night week and I need to catch my breath. This has been my go-to. Maple lounge is truly a gem within Sacramento. No I'm not paid to say any of this just a genuine review. A grateful single 33-year-old woman. So relieved to find a place where I don't have to keep my hand over my drink the whole time I'm there. This is a solid dive bar. You can smoke, the drinks are strong, many of the patrons have never left Sacramento county, the decor is so 70's in hurts (so good), and there are the sort of knick knacks that you might have to look a little harder to notice than in some kitschy places but are well worth it when you do make the discoveries. You can tell your problems to the drunk next to you who likely doesn't give a shit but is one more drink in than you are, so will allow you to ramble on about nothing and politics and other subjects. If you listen hard enough in this bar things can all to quickly become reminiscent of the subject matter in about 90% of all country songs. This is also, later in the evening, a quiet hangout for industry people, and we all know they are in the know about where to get a good strong drink. David the bartender is awesome, and not just because his pours are heavier than your Aunt Petunia. He will make you laugh and will keep the creepy guy from getting too creepy and will make fun of the people who Karaoke night seriously, as we all should. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking my house was on fire. Then I realised that the stink was my own hair. Maple Room must be owner operated because it is a puffer's paradise. Drinks are average for a dive bar and the place was a good size for our big group. The bartender also remembered what I ordered the first time and asked if I wanted the same. Yet another stop on the Arden Arcade Dive circuit. You can smoke and there is parking in the back. Those of you who frequent the watering holes and think of DUI as an Olympic sport know how important this is. It is dark and dingy. The cloud of smoke hangs in the air. It is one of the bigger dives on the circuit. There is karaoke and the drinks are usually stiff. It is populated with regulars so the mood is usually friendly and chill. There is also a younger "Next Generation" of Liver transplant candidates that hang here. Those of you who have bank accounts must hit an ATM before entering. It is a cash only bar. Why? I'm guessing few of the patrons have bank accounts and it just isn't worth the price of running cards to the owner. Actually the real reason is even seedier than that. It was interesting. It was my cousin's Birthday. Her and her friends love this place and come here very often. The drinks were really good. The bartender is not light on the mixed drinks so you get your moneys worth which don't cost a whole lot. The beer bottles are $3. People are very friendly but that might be because they've been drinking! Tee hee! But I found everyone to be very nice and willing to joke around with you. The karaoke was fun and of course you're going to get bad singers but it's karaoke who cares? It's not American Idol! You do get some pretty good singers and singers who make songs funny or sing funny songs. My boyfriend and I sang Journey's Don't Stop Believing. Then after countless country songs (not too big of a country music) I sang Ke$ha's Tik Tok. It was a lot of fun and people sing with you on the side so you don't feel too embarrassed. It's great. It's a dive bar. I might bring friends here. Of course the down fall. For some reason smoking is allowed inside the building. The doors will be closed so it's like being stuck in a permanent hot box. Then because the music is loud you kind of have to raise your voice to talk to people. You're throat will become dry and ashy after awhile. Also you will leave smelling like you've just smoked 20 boxes of cigarettes and it'll even get into your hair so jump in the shower when you get home or wash your pillows sheets the next day. I'm not smoker so it took a toll on me the next day. Also I think even more surprising then smoking inside the building was the pregnant chicks. I kid you not. Pregnant women hang out in that bar. There were three women and they just kept smoking and smoking. I feel so bad for those babies. The bartender won't serve them alcohol. Though I did see one of the girls drinking soda...Caffeinated soda. But in the end I would go back if I find myself back in Sacramento. I did have a great time and made many great memories. The high light of the night was my cousin's male friend (probably late 20's) calling my mom a MILF. Then proceeding to ask her if she indulged in "herbal remedies" in her life time. Which then I had to make the joint sign for her to understand. He then proceeded to sing Tenacious D's "F*** Her Gently" song. It may sound trashy right now but it was extremely hilarious. He was drunk but who wasn't in that place? Just saying. Give it a try. The bathrooms are clean. The place is not too shabby. OH! This is my favorite bar ever! The clientele is awesome! The bartenders and kjs are amazing and personable. I come up here from Stockton every weekend because I love this place so much. I feel like this needs to be clarified: the only time money is "solicited" is for the kj's tip jar. Period. There is no solicitation of any kind here. Every now and again, there are mock "fundraisers" for the tip jar, but they are all in good fun and everyone involved are willing participants. Come down and get to know us! This is a local spot - if you like local bars where you don't get a half ton of jocks, arcade games, 20 pool tables and 50 dart boards, then you'll love the maple room. They somehow decided, ingeniously, to exclude all that and just serve alcohol. It's pretty crazy and if they over served me on some drinks or had some crazy innovations I'd give them 5 stars, but 4 is pretty dang good in my books as far as bars are concerned. read more
