    Chicken Parm and Fries.
    Andy L.

Had business in Hartford Saturday morning and I figured I get lunch after. After doing a little research Maple Giant Grinder & Pizza seemed like a good idea. I wasn't wrong! I walked in around 11:30am and I was the only customer there. The owner Frank I believe his name was greeted me right away. I appreciated his high positive energy. Very pleasant to deal with. I was in the mood for a chicken parm grinder so I ordered a toasted half and some fries. The have a real nice large, well lit open and airy dining area if you want to eat there which I did. The fries came out first, piping hot and very tasty. Then the chicken parm grinder. I love to eat and a half is more than enough for me! Real good grinder all the way around......the sauce, peppers, cheese and of course the breaded chicken was awesome. Several folks came in to pick up to go orders, other than that I had the place to myself. After finishing up I was super full and Frank happily took my dishes from me. Can't ask for much more than that for a great experience. I'm happy I chose Maple Giant Grinder & Pizza. I'll definitely be back to try something else. Check them out you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic grinders, just like I remember it! Fresh crispy thin cutlets and amazing sauce. Really can't be beat. I will be returning very soon!

The value here is extraordinary. Half grinders run 7 or 8 bucks, and if you eat the entire thing you will be stuffed for the rest of the day. And how about getting a slice of pizza for just $1.50? If you're a big spender and want to spring for pepperoni, it will set you back $1.75 -not $1.75 extra, just $1.75 for the whole slice. The aptly named Maple Giant Grinder is a grinder -pizza - pasta place with very good food at rock bottom prices. For lunch today, we ordered a half meatball grinder, a half turkey grinder ($7.25 each) and an antipasto $8.75. My turkey grinder was excellent- a perfectly toasted nice soft roll, a big portion of fresh turkey, with lettuce, tomato, and melted provolone with a splash of oil and vinegar. Our salad was just as good- a huge cylinder of ham, cheese, turkey, pepperoni, and salami served over crisp fresh spring mix with tomatoes, onions and olives. I sampled a taste of the meatball and sauce, and they were fabulous! The only thing that was "off" was that a meatball grinder wasn't our first choice -chicken parm was. But they didn't have any chicken parm at 12:30 on a Saturday! The "half" grinders were so large we took half of the halves home, so we basically got 4 portions for about three and a half bucks each. That's a great value. If you're in the neighborhood, and want to have a nice lunch in a sweet neighborhood place, and not break the bank, you will make out very nicely here.

Probably the best grinders in the South End. No bad choices on the menu here. Try the beef cutlet -- something you'll only find at old school Italian places like this one -- or the stuffed peppers with sauce. Don't be fooled by the "half" grinder which sounds small. It'll fill you up. The whole is big enough to share. Good, friendly service on top of the food. If you're taking it to go they always get you out the door with your food quickly.

can anyone actually finish the "whole"? HUGE portions. I had the beef cutlet and it was really good, covered in a zesty sauce and smothered in provolone. I like that they have sodas from a local supplier, too. Service was great, parking was easy!

"Rose darling come to me All I ask of you…read moreIs make my wildest dreams come true" (Steely Dan) You probably don't need a PHD in linguistics to surmise that the Italian words "La Rosa" translates into the English words "The Rose". And if your wildest dreams happen to revolve around Italian comfort foods and well stacked sandwiches, well, do I have a place to make those wildest dreams come true for you! La Rosa is your quintessential Italian deli with dozens of grinders, paninis, wraps, salads, soups and a daily hot bar of pasta and chicken entrees. We ordered a grilled Panino Melenzani ($12) with eggplant, tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil. It was grilled right in front of our eyes, so it was as fresh as could be. It had plenty of tender sliced eggplant, yummy cheese and fresh tomatoes. I went with my usual, an Italian Combo (half size for $14) stacked a mile high with Ham, Turkey, Genoa, Mortadella, Capicola, and Provolone with lettuce, tomato, onions, and peppers on a fresh loaf of Italian bread. It was superb, and the portion size was so generous that it lasted me for three lunches. As we were paying, we spied some home-made cookies by the register and grabbed an oatmeal and a chocolate chip to take home. Everything ran $32 for a ton of wonderful Italian goodness. We didn't get a chance to check out the hot bar. It wasn't open today because LaRosa's Marketplace was closing early for personal reasons. But I promise you, the next time we visit we'll leave with one of their chicken or pasta entrees. We love our Italian delis, and LaRosa's has immediately shot up into our top tier.

Everything here is fantastic, but my recommendation is the three squared. The cutlet is fantastic and the mix of the red peppers with the arugula and cheese is delicious! It just hits the spot.

Cove Deli was the only place that I hadn't already tried that I would try. Selection made. Cove Deli is located in what could be a charming grey multi-level residence towards the far north side of the Silas Deane in Wethersfield. It's sign is grey/blue and looks like it would be obscured by the shade for some of the day. Guess that's why I never noticed. They serve things such as breakfast sandwiches, coffee, burgers, salads, lunch sandwiches and prepared meals for home consumption. The inside was well-cared for and decorated in a manner fitting the nice exterior of the building. I would be comfortable eating there, although I'm still mostly in takeout mode. I ordered something I usually only order in Manhattan - an everything bagel with lox, red onion, tomato, capers and cream cheese. Cove Deli promptly answered my call, and my order, which Cove Deli calls "Lox on a Bagel", was ready when I arrived about 10 minutes later. Service was friendly. The "Lox on a Bagel" was decent, but is a couple of steps down from the best New York places that I've tried. The ingredients were all fine, but there were no real standouts. I would definitely return to try something different at the Cove Deli, but I prefer other places in the area for bagels. Three Stars
