I'm on my way out..... My wife and I are insured by them - $1,300 per year for our two vehicles. We bought a 22 year old third vehicle to have in the driveway for convenience. Total increase to our policy - $1,000. Why? They are charging an "excess vehicle fee" since we have two drivers and three cars - one of which is the 22 year old vehicle. The rates for our two primary cars increased BEFORE we pay the fair value insurance on the third vehicle. Between my deductible and first year premium, I'd pay more than the car's worth in insurance if it's totaled with in the first year. I'll be moving to an insurance company that realizes you can only drive 24/7 regardless of the number of vehicles you own. read more

The agent assigned to your claim will always be unavailable and you the customer, or potential customer will never be #1 in their claim process based on my experience. wow I shouldn't be surprised at all of the very poor ratings here. I was insured with Mapfre for a year since my daughters accident I have changed to a different company, I have an existing claim, the at fault parties insurance USAA is very nice, this accident occurred 12/12/17 I have been trying to get my daughters wages paid for two months 70% of them, I dealing with a Debra Pagonis who makes sure she tells me she has been with the company for 20 some years. I don't care how long you have been there just do your job without a snotty attitude. They keep using the excuse that the wage verification wasn't filled out correctly by the employer, so I myself had to do their job and contact the HR dept of my daughters employer and get them to refill out the forms, they have since faxed them over. Mapfre "says they don't allow for email from customers" which is just an excuse to not have to do their job. With technology today why in the hell would they not allow for email? So I have to call and speak to this women and listen to her negative voice which you can tell she doesn't like her job by her tone. Yesterday she said to me "we have bent over backwards for you because we sent you $200.00 without the proper documents blah blah. I have bent over backwards to pay you my premiums also, so yeah do your job without a bad attitude. I have also talked to higher up people from her and only gotten the same crappy attitudes. Either way they will have to pay this out, why they even care about is beyond me because the at fault party is ultimately going to pay them back. Im glad I have different insurance with a different company now, especially after seeing all of these other terrible reviews. So far, so bad. I hit a pothole that bent my rim and caused a knot on my tire. Someone told me that I could have a blowout any time now. I filed my claim a week ago and received a letter with my claim representative information. No phone calls so I called. The lady told me to go to their center for an appraisal of the damage. In my household we had 3 vehicles under Mapfre Commerce ins for like about 10 years, i had a bad lucky begin of 2014 where I was involved in 2 accidents within a 3 month period, because of that my insurance went up $1000 more and another thing they say once u get ur car fixed by one of their shops it guaranteed for life, that's a lie, they never call u back, u keep calling them they don't answer and if they do answer it's always they gonna call u back and they never do, this been going on for months now,legal actions are my only choice left now read more

I'm currently working with Commerce/MAPFRE after a fire in my home, and they have been AMAZING. I am constantly surprised by how focused they are on making sure that not only do I have what I need, but that I'm comfortable with it. They didn't just find a hotel for me to stay in during the first few days - they found 3 hotels, all pet friendly, all with a suite/kitchenette setup, and let me choose the one I felt most comfortable in. They also made it clear that if I liked none of them, they'd happily expand the search to other types of living arrangements. Every time I've had a concern I've gotten a call back within a few hours, and every problem I've had has been taken care of quickly and efficiently. I don't even want to think about how much more difficult this whole process would be without them here helping me with it all. read more

MAPFRE/Commerce's refusal to respond to our claim has destroyed our home. Six months ago, ice dams caused tremendous water damage to our home. MAPFRE/Commerce was "too busy" to send adjustors out right away. By the time they got there, water had continued to spread throughout the house. Six months and five adjustors later -- the latest one sent from the corporate offices - and we still don't know when our house will be fixed. They keep telling us they'll get to us "tomorrow." But "tomorrow" never comes. My husband, three children and I are virtually homeless (which is worse given that we're dealing with stage four cancer, as well). I'm writing this to warn others not to use MAPFRE/Commerce. In fact, if you're currently a customer, find another insurance company before what happened to us happens to you. read more

I'm not sure where to even start with this review but this 'Insurance' company is the WORST place I have ever had to deal with. Please forgive the length of this review but I hope none of you reading this will ever have to deal with these sick people. I was severely rear ended by one of their drivers who was going about 45-55 miles an hour and hit me full force while I was at a complete stop at an intersection. I later saw the same driver being put away into a police car and driven away when I drove past the same spot. I found out that he was not supposed to be behind the wheel of that car! I told the insurance company what I was told, that we have video footage, and the severity of the damage and they have blown me off each time, giving excuse after excuse. I have suffered severe bodily damage because of this and Mapfre insurance could care less. I have been the one to ALWAYS attempt (ahem, attempt!) at calling them to move forward with the claim and I can never reach them and when I do they provide no help and show no concern or interest in the issue at hand. This is the shadiest business by far. The driver never answered any of their calls they claimed to make and never called them back so I had to wait close to 50 days to finally get a call back saying he "took responsibility" for the accident. It then took forever for the guy to come out and look at my car and actually left out 2 or 3 key details in regards to what needed to be fixed. It took ages to get the check to fix my car (we are about 3 months in at this point give or take). I have sent them my ER bills and physical therapy bills (i was in immediate pain and couldn't move and am still in severe pain with migraines on a daily basis now) and they have yet to be paid to this very day meaning I'm making payments on medical bills that should have never happened. They won't return our calls, they won't respond to us, and they have lied on several occasions saying that they emailed me or tried to contact me and my mother (my extra contact). Mapfre, if you even read these, this is the calm before the storm. I can't even work some days because of the pain I am in now. The accident happened April 9th and I have talked to these people a whopping total of 3 times and the only thing to be done is the fixing of my car. This insurance company is the worst, most shadiest, most irresponsible business I have ever had the displeasure of communicating with. This accident has put many burdens on my day to day life whereas I cannot do certain things anymore. This company needs to be shut down and investigated in my honest opinion. I will most likely be taking the driver and the insurance company to court. They are run by rude and irresponsible crooks. Beware! Edit: I forgot to mention they also tried to persuade me to sign off on the insurance with only my one ER bill to be paid by them (which again, still hasn't been) and attempted to convince me I needed to pay for my own rental while my car was being fixed. They will try their absolute hardest to take as little possible care of you and take as little responsibility as they can by ignoring you and lying to you. Do not fall for this! read more

Horrible. Zero stars my car was stolen from my hometown. I was in another state visiting my dying father. Mapfre waited five months to deny my claim after I was cooperative and compliant with them sending everything they needed, phone records, text messages, vehicle maintenance records, met with their investigator, lawyer, and my local police. They are citing fraud and misrepresentation with no proof. Their customer service representatives have the worst attitudes, their claim adjustors never return calls or emails. After reading these reviews I am convinced that I'm not the only that they done this to. The purpose of your insurance company is for them to protect you and keep you secure. MAPFRE is only concerned with taking your money they should be shut down for impersonating a insurance company. Horrible. When you call, you get rude, snide employees who have no desire to help. When you submit paperwork, you get no response. Every interaction with this company is confused. It takes an obscene amount of time to get an inspector out to your car, and more than once I have been given other people's information when I call about my policy or claim. Of course, it's never their fault. They "just have so many cases open right now." Seriously, there are plenty of other insurance companies. read more

I too have been a Commerce customer for more than 10 years, but next year I will change companies. I was broadsided by an unlicensed teenager who was going to the movies with her girlfriend. The young driver was speeding ACROSS the parking lot at Whole Foods (Cambridge Route 2 exit). I had just picked up the thanksgiving turkey and was exiting the parking lot. She gave me the car's 'safety-check' form when I asked for the car's registration. The new Hyundai was her birthday gift, and totaled due to the impact. My Volvo had a small dent on the front side. Both she and her friend were sobbing - but - denying they were hurt. I called 911 and insisted the Cambridge police come to the scene. Long story short - Commerce claimed we were both at fault (50-50). I said, "No bloody way", and we ended up in court. She was held totally responsible for the accident, with only a 'Beginner's permit,' driving with a friend, at dusk in the rain. By the way, the Cambridge police report failed to mention she was driving with a 15 year old friend, with only had a 'beginner's permit.' read more

I have Mapfre insurance for both my house & truck. Never have had a problem with them. My truck was struck by another driver on Christmas Day 2014, in North Carolina, the other driver failed to stop for a red light. When I got home I contacted my insurance agent, & he contacted MAPFRE, Commerce & they sent out an adjuster to assess the damage & possible cost of repair. I received the check within 3 or 4 days. My premiums haven't changed either. No problems with them at all. read more

If I could give this insurance 0 stars I would. They have the worst costumer service and do not take action for their misstakes. I had called customer service multiple time to switch my automatic checking account. I was given the incorrect information from a representive on how to do so. The following month my incorrect bank was charged once again. When I followed up with the insurance about this issue stating that they should pay the overdraft fee for giving their customer the wrong direction to switch checkings they refused. I had to speak to five representatives to get in touch with the manager from Webster O. Roberts, I was told three times he would reach out by a day that he never followed through with. Last and final call that was made after wasting hours explaining this he told me there was nothing he could do. Will most definitely be switching insurances and letting anyone who asks about mapfree know my honest opinion. Terrible customer service. read more

This company sucks! I attempted to pay my bill in full this past summer. They said they never got the money. My bank confirmed it was sent to their bank. Commerce continued to say they never got the money. I gave them my bank statement. It wasn't enough. I stopped payment on the check as my bank advised. The next day, before the money was showing as back in my account, I got a returned check fee for $25.00 from Commerce. I had been planning on just sending them the payment again. When I called, their smirky (sad) customer service representatives insisted there was no way they were going to waive the fee, so I decided it was time to change insurance companies. I saved $100 a year by switching to Travelers BTW. I am now in collections for the $25.00 returned check fee and a fee for switching insurance companies early into my renewal. I have excellent credit! I even sent them a check for the short time they insured me while this bologna *non-payment* was going on. Commerce, you've got no class!! read more

I signed up for Yelp just so I could help people decide to NOT work with Mapfre. I am a pretty easygoing person, but thinking about my year or so of experience with these people gives me hives. Let's put it this way, work with Mapfre if you are interested in terrible customer service, unprofessional communication, hidden fees, tons of wasted money, incredibly convoluted phone "menu" systems that rarely connect you with someone who knows what they are talking about, and an overall SHADY, SHADY vibe. I finally quit when their new quote for my car this year came out to be $2000.... over DOUBLE what it was last year- which was already too high in the first place. And this is after they squeezed hundreds of dollars out of my checking account for "fees" that they NEVER told me about. I did speak to one nice man about these "Fees" and he said he would send me a packet with print outs of my entire year's payments... and then never did. Lol. Don't even get me started about the nightmare that ensued with them when I got in a small fender bender last year. I switched to Progressive. I feel like half my brain now has space to function. In the fall of 2013 we hit a deer with our 2005 el-cheapo, base model Honda Civic coupe at highway speed, doing about $4300 in damage to the car (several dealerships valued the car anywhere from $2500 to $4600 in "good" condition!). This insurance company proceeded to value the car at $6320 - at least $2000 more than almost anyone else. Because of this value, they determined the car was repairable (using used parts wherever possible!). When I questioned this, their adjusters got belligerent with me - one of them even told me I had wasted enough of their time, and hung up on me. I complained to the Insurance commissioner in my state. They told me to get a valuation report. When I wrestled this from American Commerce, it showed they were basing the value of my car on two cars which were a) not the same model, b) not equipped the same and c) had far fewer miles on them. The Office of the Insurance Commissioner then wrote a letter on my behalf. Commerce replied, stating that the reason it was taking so long to settle was because of my "insistence the car was a total loss". They even used my purchase of another car to try to prove I was trying to get something out of them which was more than I was entitled to. When I checked with local dealerships, the trade value on the Honda went from around $3800 to less than $2000 with an accident on its title. Then, to rub salt in the wound, after they "relented" and decided to total the car, they continued to send rate increase notices and vehicle identification cards, but they were somehow unable to send the documents to get the whole thing settled to the same address. It's now December and we are STILL not finished! All in all, a horrible experience... one worthy only of nightmares. I wish there were a way to give them "negative" stars! read more

I think before they added MAPFIRE they were good. I have put in my first claim since that and I email/call my rep and get no response for 2-3 days . They are trained to close the claim ASAP even if you have questions or concerns. I feel like I'm getting salvage car service at Mercedes prices. From what I understand since Commerce got brought by Mapfre Co. a class action lawsuit is in the working because Mapfre is treating their loyal customers like they could care less about the. My husband was in an accident (not his fault) and his 2011 car was totaled. The auto body place said it was worth 18200.00 in todays market according to the NADA, Kelly Blue Book and the Regisry of Motor Vech. Commerce/Mapfre said they are only going to give us 16000.00, we are not asking for anything more than what the car is worth. They said if we don't like it we can go to arbitration. Forget about that! We will be joining the Class Action Lawsuit. One more note: after their 13 page report the last page does say that in today's market the car is worth 18200.00. We will be changing insurance companies for our cars & house. read more

My car was hit by a Mapfre policy holder three weeks ago. I'm still waiting to find out where to have it repaired. The Senior Claim Rep won't return my calls. I gave up and called the "Customer Service" line. When I wouldn't give my social security # over the phone, I was practically hung up on. They already had my lic #, address, police accident report, etc. I did have an appraisal done, but no guidance as to the next step. Today I received a letter telling me, "once their investigation is complete we will contact you to discuss this claim." This company is completely unprofessional. After filling out their survey and giving them a bad review, I got an email saying they would like to speak with me about my experience and will be calling me. Surprise, they never called me. I'm not impressed and plan to change companies. I have had Commerce for home and auto for almost 20 years. I've had 2 auto claims, which were both handled promptly and fairly. I never had a home claim until this winter, when ice dams caused significant water damage to my house. The company that did the mitigation (tearing down walls and treating for mold) billed them directly, so no problem there. And then they sent me a check for the rebuilding part which looks like it will come to slightly more than the reconstruction company is charging me, despite a $1000 deductible. The total claim came to over $18,000, all paid with no problem. Extremely happy with Commerce! read more

I, too, have had nothing but a negative experience with MAPFRE - horrible follow-through and my Commerce agent has been nothing short of pretty shady in guiding me through the process for filing a claim on an accident that was not more than 50% my fault. I'm not left with $5000 out of pocket that I shouldn't have to pay - but no one cares and no one is willing to be an advocate for me. Horrible service!!!!!!!!!!! Interesting that there are so many other negative experiences noted on this site, but glad to see that MAPFRE isn't taking them down as I expected that they would. My AC condenser was severely damaged by ice not being cleared off of the roof by my condo association. MAPRE paid the claim so quickly that we were able to have the AC condenser replaced before the first major heat of the summer. read more

I had ice dam damage from this past winter, roof, doorways, etc. I put in a claim on a Saturday with a representative and waited. I was not contacted for a week, then sent my agent to inquire. I was told that the claim was assigned to someone and then dropped. I finally heard from an independent appraiser and he came right out. It has been 2 - 3 weeks since I received my copy of his report. I have emailed and called many times, and get no response from the adjuster. My agent reached out as well, to no avail. I want to fix these issues before the snow comes again. I am very disappointed. read more

I would never recommend MAPFRE/Commerce to anyone. We have been customers for over 10 years for auto and homeowners insurance. We submitted a claim in Feb 2015 for damage our property received from ice dams. This was our first claim ever submitted. They sent two different adjusters and after 6 months or repeated calls they finally issued a check in late August. Our policy expired in Sept and they did not renew us. We were never given the 45 day notice of nonrenewal. We were cancelled because of the loss and notified on Sept 18th (our policy exp Sept 20!) Now because of the nonrenewal and open claim our premium with other insurance companies are ridiculously high! How this is even legal and how they get away with such shady business is beyond me. Stay away from MAPFRE. I had policies with them for many years - homeowner's, auto and an umbrella policy. I filed two small ice dam claims (about $6500 in total) the past two winters and MAPFRE sent me a nonrenewal letter for my homeowner's. MAPFRE didn't even make an effort to keep me and increase my premiums. As is known, the winter of 2014-2015 was historical in Massachusetts. I wouldn't recommend MAPFRE to anyone who wants insurance for its purpose - to pay you when you suffer damage from a covered peril. MAPFRE is in the business to receive premiums only. I just received notice that my homeowners policy is being cancelled "due to unfavorable loss experience caused by ice damage" to my flat roof last winter. The roof has since been replaced, and resulting damage fixed, but they still sent the notice that they were not renewing my policy effective February 2016. I am working with my agent to fix this, hopefully it will be reinstated, but I find this unacceptable - I have NEVER submitted a damage claim before on any homeowner's policy. read more

Just got word my pickup truck was totaled . I switched to Commerce / Maphree because I was told they are excellent so far ,for me is true. I switched 3 autos with them my premiums were 45% lower . My car was totaled during the last heavy snow storm. The claims adjuster was rude and gave me quote for my car which was way under what could buy a car of like value and quality. I used NADA estimates and car prices online. The claims adjuster wouldnt tell me what she used. She told me there is one for sale at Ira mazda but wouldn't send it to me and i couldnt find it on their site. She hung upon me only to call back a week later to tell me a quote that was lower than the first.I said I couldnt accept it. She very curtly told me that she was going to send arbitration papers in the mail. I complained to my insurance agent and she called and the adjuster upped her offer about 300 dollars which was still too low. She also told her her that arbitration would cost 1000 dollars plus the cost of an independent adjuster I feel like I am being intimidated to settle since the value i am looking for is about 2000 dollars more. I am contemplating small claims court which is less expensive. Its a shame I have to do this to get a fair market price for my car. read more

If i could rate Commerce Insurance 0 stars, they would. My recommdendation is to absolutely stay away. After this last experience with Yelp, I will be quoted for a different company and leaving Commerce, even if it means paying a higher insurance rate. My experience was with Jennifer Comen from the Webster, MA office. I was involved in a hit and run, while stopped at a red light. My car was taken to a nearby autobody shop in the city I live. One week later I was told that the car would be deemed totaled. The insurance agent then called me and told me that I needed to have the vehicle moved out of the auto body shop or I would be charged $60 a day for storage of the car. My common sense knowledge assumesthat a car deemed totaled cannot be driven. I finally coordinate to have it towed out of the auto body shop into one of their "preferred shops." I was told that within the week I would have an appraisal amount for the car loss. THREE WEEKS later I received a call from Jennifer Comen who informs me my car is worth $4500 minus $800 in fees from the storage and other misc items that make no sense to me and she would be sending me a check for $3791 and that my rental coverage would end in 5 days. At this point, I did communicate that I was frustrated with the lack of communication, knowing they had the car appraised two weeks prior, which now lies the financial responsibility on me and not the insurance company to pay for my rental car until i receive the check and purchase a new vehicle. Jennifer became very arrogant and "offended" that I supposedly claimed that she was not doing her job, when in fact she was not doing her job. She then proceeded to swear at me and told me I could have called for this information. It is my understanding that I am the client and the insurance agency is responsbile for communicating this information to me... how else was I to know? After a ten minute conversation of Jennifer yelling and arguing with me and telling me I should have called, I ended the conversation and asked her to just send me the check. and have her supervisor call me. After speaking with her supposed supervisor Dan Hunt, he argued with me that I was wrong and that I should have called for this information. Whether I had this information or not.... they should have sent the check to me two weeks prior when they completed the auto appraisal. Nonetheless, I will no longer be working with Commerce Insurance and will make all my friends and family aware of my experience. My advice to Commerce: Enroll your customer service agents in a Customer Service 101 course. They could sure use it. read more

This is my first insurance company on my own policy and I have never been more frustrated in my life. I hit a deer three weeks before thanksgiving and three months later it is just now getting fixed. They were quick to get someone out to look at my car, but after that there was nothing. My adjuster who was supposed to help me never answered any of her emails or the countless voicemails I had left, everyday, sometimes twice a day, for 2 and a half months. I have never been in an accident before and now I hope to never again because of the terrible experience I have had with MAPFRE. The first time I heard from my adjuster was 10 minutes before I dropped my car off at the auto body,two and a half months after the accident, and all she did was question my responsibility and was rude. She is supposed to be the one I relied on and I only got a response once I sent a not so happy email to her. Im switching insurance companies the moment my claim is up because they are the worst. Rude, unhelpful, and do not pay all that they said they would in the end. Save yourself the time and money and find a better insurance, even if it costs extra, it is worth it in the end. read more

Mapfre took over my home and auto policy after buying Commerce. I filed my first property claim in 7 years. There were several drawbacks to working with Mapfre. 1) the property damage occurred Friday night after hours. Afterhours, Mapfre basically has an answering service, there are no knowledgable employees available. So I did not receive any guidance on what would be covered and how to go about getting repairs done until Monday. 2) They handed my claim to an outside claims adjuster. The initial follow up was good, but then it took 5 weeks for the adjuster to submit the claims report to Mapfre. Based on the type of damage, I had to get the repairs done immediately so the house would be livable. There was no transparency or documentation sent to me to explain the process and timeline. 3) Mapfre did not have preferred vendors to handle water mitigation/restoration nor did they have any negotiated rates. 4) It has been 6 weeks, I still have not received a reimbursement check nor a copy of my claims report. read more

I get a hold of mapfre and they direct me to a place to fix my vehicle....two weeks past I show up to pick up my car and see they shop they direct me to does a medicore job AT BEST!!!! and the the rim their client hit and destroyed is still on my truck....I walk in and then get told we can't find the rim anymore!!!!! Come to find out that rim is NO LONGER MADE OR AVAILABLE!!!! and mapfre gives me a check for the replacement of 1 rim that CANT BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED!!!!! TELLING ME BASICALLY LOL I HAVE TO COME OUTTA MY OWN POCKET TO BUY ANOTHER SET!!!! 3-$4000 dollars !!!! They aren't paying for a set!!! I'm like so I have to come out of my own pocket because ur client hit my PARKED VEHICLE WITH ONE OFF RIMS THAT ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!!!! So ever since I've been riding around on a bent rim that has eaten up one tire already!!!! (Got a flat last week) right after a new alignment!!!!!! So I m now in the process of taking thier insured to court and now mapfre is refusing to help even telling me dates and times of the incident!!!!! My review in reference to this company is certainly not a good one. My vehicle was struck on June 4, 2018 in Columbia, SC. My daughter, granddaughter and one year old Shih tzu puppy was hit head on by a drunk driver. The driver in insured by Mapfre Insurance Company, Well, the drama began on this date. I called the insurance company on June 5th and spoke with Dawn M. to report the accident and gave all pertinent information. Dawn M. was very professional and courtesy and told me that my adjuster was Yvonne G. and would be handling the case from this point on. Called Ms. Yvonne G. on 6/5; and 6/6; several times leaving voice messages each time. Finally, after calling several times on 6/7, I got her. Ms. Yvonne G. was extremely rude and informed me that Robin will be my adjuster from now on. I called to report her rudeness to her supervisor on that very same day. I spoke with Susan W. who was excellent in validating my complaint with the customer service thus far. She said she would personally email and call Yvonne's supervisor-Mr. Dennis R and leave a detailed message. To fast forward, Mr. Scott C. called and it was not until June 21st that we were approved to get a rental. Now, we're the victim of a drunk driver who had insurance with Mapfre and went without transportation for this length of time. This was cruel and unnecessary treatment. Now, to add insult to injury, they are refusing to put quality parts of my 2013 Avalon that was in mint condition with less than 26,000 miles. My vehicle since was hit on 6/4. Not put in shop for repairs until 6/12. They want to put after market parts on my car and is refusing to do otherwise. I spoke with Mr. Scott C. on July 10th after he email my repair manager and said that they "will" only do used or after market parts. Mr. Scott told me during our conversation per phone that all he was obligated to do was to "replace my parts with 5 years old parts" because my car was five years old. How stupid! I quickly told him that the fact of the matter was very simple, I was not a customer of Mapfre and therefore did not enter into an agreement to have after market parts placed on my vehicle in case of an accident. He said that's was his position and he was not not changing it. Well, my position is this, I'm demanding to have my car restored back to where it was before being hit. The nerves of these insurance companies and the way they re-victimize victims over and over again. To this date, July 16, 2018, I'm still being victimized. I need for social media to do your thing and help me tell and retell my case. I am talking for my daughter, granddaughter, puppy and my car. This is unacceptable #MapfreunacceptableandmadasHell.
