Horrible company! Wish I could give them no stars. My significant other lost his house in a fire and needs to rebuild. Mapre took over 4 months to settle!! Trying to rebuild and the towns force you to go through hoops and waiting periods etc..to get the necessary permits. Mapfre just told him they are kicking him out of the temporary housing because he should be done building. It's only been 3 months!! Who can get permits, variances, demo, and rebuild all within 3 months?? They are telling him he needs to be out two weeks after xmas. Unfortunately I do not live close enough to him to be of any help and I am just horrified they would notify him like this just before xmas. He still has to pay his mortgage and now will has no where to live, other than putting up a tent on his property through the winter months. like most customers on here I would give them a negative number if I could. They don't seem to know how to do basic math using their own numbers. Between myself and my agent we were given 3 different stories as to an amount on my bill. I paid my premium off 2 months early and was told shortly after the funds weren't available and they assesseda a NSF fee. I would be willing to pay it if that was the case. That money was in my account before, during and after the funds were to be processed and I gave proof. They are refusing to refund the NSF and have completely ignored the fact that I paid the final balance. One minute the statement reflects the April premium, next minute it is a NSF fee and then the next it is a NSF carried over from August of last year. All untrue. I will never ever use them again and have reported them to the BBB. I judy wishI had did my research prior to using them. the absolute worst!!!! I have an active claim with them bcse our home was broken into and they have made a very painful experience even worst!!! I feel like I've been "burglarized" again but this time by my own insurance company. I've never had to file a claim like this and was clueless as to how to proceed...they didn't help at all...With my agent's help and searching online, I finally got all the documentation they needed and more - I spent so much time putting together in a big binder to facilitate their review, to no avail... without letting me know, they sent it all to Enservio for further review, even though like I said I had provided more than sufficient substantiation on everything. I even researched online every piece of antique I had and got stolen to provide them with a legit estimate of what they were worth to avoid any unnecessary delays. I had never heard of Enservio or what they do and Commerce didn't offer any significant info to my many inquiries...always very vague... as it turns out, the rep from Enservio was truly amazing - compassionate, diligent, very professional - the complete opposite of what I've painfully experienced with Esther O'Neill, my so-called adjuster from Commerce and her supervisor, David DiGregorio...I dont expect anybody to read this long review but if anybody does I hope this makes you think twice about expecting Commerce to be there for you when you need them the most and go somewhere else for insurance coverage...what's even sadder is that I paid faithfully this joke of a company for over 20 years... took a very sad experience and these many years to find out the truth, I hope nobody else has to go through this... Ive copied and pasted below my last two emails to them...if I get no reply by tomorrow, I will be seeking legal action - thanks Commerce for "caring" so much and putting me through this! ZERO STARS if I could!!! I was involved in an accident with their insured a few months back that was completely the other drivers fault, as confirmed by this agency. Almost zero communication from the company and would not return my phone calls. I eventually had my insurance company contact them and try said they were waiting on the police report (this was a month later!). So I retrieved said report and sent it on over. Two weeks later and after many more phone calls I finally got through to the claim rep and she said she still was waiting. I replied with "I sent it certified mail and it was delivered on "this date" at 10am." She says "okay can you hold?" 20 seconds later she comes back "oh yes here it is." Are you kidding me? It was just sitting on her sitting on her desk the whole time!!! Now, they are saying they will only pay a certain amount for the rental (I did not get an extravagant rental but something comparable to my Honda Civic). and they will not pay the $200 towing fee unless they get certain paperwork. I contact the towing company where everything has been filed away since the accident was over a month ago and they graciously offer to speak with the rep. I call the rep back and get the biggest attitude in the world. "We will not call the towing company. Either you get the tow slip or we will not pay the tow fee." I paid Commerce for years and years and years, 30 plus loyal customer, Not one accident never one claim Until I put my house on the market, and the harsh winter came and I ran out of a full tank of oil inless than 6 weeks, my pipes burst causing water damage to floors and pipes. Very unprofessional. Simon grays team did not give me an update for four weeks. I spoke to a woman on his team and told her my vehicle is still in the tow yard. She said because of limits issue they cannot take care of it and I will be responsible for paying that bill I told her I shouldn't be held responsible for getting hit and she literally said welcome to the real world then she laughed hysterically and I asked what her name was so that I could speak to a manager and after laughing for several seconds she hung up on me. Commerce is so shady, especially regarding a glass claims. I called them because my windshield got broken by a tree branch. Even though my friend owns a glass shop, they more or less forced me to go to one of their "perferred shops." They make it sound like if you go any place else for work, it wouldn't be covered. I found out after the fact, it is a bunch of BS. To make matters worse, if you research the companies they recommend i.e. Safelite Glass, they have more complaints against them for crapy work and unhappy customers it's sickening. So I cancelled my insurance and went elsewhere. So, if your dumb enough to stay with Commerce, keep in mind you can go where ever you want for glass or even body shop work. read more

My legally parked car was struck and heavily damaged by an MBTA bus that fled the scene without making themselves known, a CRIMINAL action. SO obvious with the bus paint scheme transferred onto my car, all along the side and damage consistent with the height of bus. Police report filed and available to MAPFRE COMMERCE. Agent At MAPFRE Commerce did NOT want to hear ONE thing about about any of it! Didn't care about the Police Report.... All that mattered that was I paid my $1,000.00 deductible and let it go. Nothing about how an investigator COULD prove the incident with video surveillance both on the street and bus. Nothing about knowing the exact time frame that it happened. Nothing about the route of the bus. Nothing about going after the MBTA for $$$ to pay. Nothing. I was told by Agent "cars get hit all the time on city streets". Thanks for the insight. It still doesn't make it right. I was unhappy with the dismissive attitude (as if it was MY fault) I got during this stressful time especially with how I was trying to save THEM money! Edit 3/19/2015 I am thrilled to see that someone from Mapfre Commerce has replied after all these months and I am even more thrilled to say I dumped Mapfre Commerce exactly a year ago due to this incident. There's no communication except for the bill and hard to find when you need something. They're the classic insurance company that takes the fee but God help you if you make a claim. Everything has been an issue with this insurance company. They are so slow in returning e-mails and phone calls (if they return them at all). Had a burst pipe in our rental. Had three quotes from three different contractors all around the same amount to fix the damage to the bathroom. MAPFRE came in at $4,000 under in their quotes. Would barely change their pricing at all, even after multiple other issues were discovered as the work went on. It's been over three months that we have been trying to work through this and we have yet to come to a resolution. Still have not seen a dime in renter's loss insurance either. This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. I never post on yelp but I am furious. I have since moved to Geico for my car insurance with absolutely none of the issues I had with this company. They will not honor their quoted premium (premium changed after signing a policy without any changes in record post signing), we canceled once we were aware of the new rate, they insist we owe them because they cannot pull a record in another state, and place the onus on you to disprove their inability to do so. They also changed their reason for the premium hike after I proved that their first reason (driver rating) was disclosed prior to the original quote. Incompetent and dishonest. I will never work this company again and I will be reporting them to the BBB. read more

I had Commerce for 14 years and then due to one fender bender with no damage to my car, my policy jumped by $800. I didn't have any trouble with the couple of claims I had during the first tenure - other than that one. I switched insurances though because when I called asking about the discrepancy for a long time customer, the response was "That's the rate." I went to another company for a year - no claims submitted, thank God. When it came time to renew, Commerce actually had a better rate, so I switched back my policy. I paid in full - as I like to budget for once-per-year payments. I have paid this way the entire time I have had a car/insurance. Two months later, I received a check for "overpayment" with no other statement or explanation. I assumed there could have been a rate change. Two months after that, I received an invoice for the amount of that check. I called to question this, and the response I received from a phone conversation and an email was "We're sorry, but someone applied someone else's payment to your account. When we switched money internally, you now owe the money back to us." The rep said that it's "easy to transpose an account number." The person answering the email said - quoting directly "if you had called questioning why you received it, we would have been able to advise you at that time that the payment did not belong to you and that the check should be returned." Putting the impetus on the customer for the mistakes of the insurer is unprofessional at best. I suggested that if anyone from the company had called me or sent me any sort of formal notice with the check and/or the subsequent invoice, perhaps the mistake could have been caught from the beginning. I've never had a problem with a claims process (and I don't want anymore, please God!), but insisting on this returned payment - especially in their time frame that will tax my July budget - leaves a poor taste with me when I had paid in full, and both mistakes were on the part of the insurer. I also didn't receive any sort of personal phone call or apology - just an invoice. At the very least, do not suggest that the responsibility lies with the customer to understand all correspondence fully and to contact the company that has made the mistake. How rude! read more

We then paid for everything ourselves, cancelled our insurance and now they have a collection agency calling us every day for us to keep paying our premium. These people are rude, rude, rude. They never return calls, they answer questions like robots - meaning they never do answer your questions - and now they have some guy on yelp, saying "I'm so sorry for your issues with MAPFRE, please contact us at this number." Do NOT use MAPFRE. You can't trust them. I was in an accident where the other driver was found 100% at fault. Insurance deemed my car a total loss. Representatives can been incredibly hard to get a hold of - you leave them several voicemails to no avail. When you do get a hold of them, they try to bully you into making decisions without giving you all the information. If you ask too many questions, they become abrasive and tell you to look at your policy (that they can't provide). I don't agree with the price they are providing for my car (shocker - its lower than Blue Book or NADA), but they still expect me with one day's notice to drive an hour to the tow lot, clean out my car and release the car to them. They can't understand why I am wary about releasing my car without a fair price and instead threaten me with payments for the tow lot. They just want leverage so they can bully me into their proposed price. I get insurance is a money making business but I would hope it would also be a safety net and comfort when you are in need of it. Not the case with MAPFRE. read more

I was involved in a hit and run accident a few weeks ago. My car was determined Totaled by the adjuster over 10 days ago. My claims adjuster never calls back. If you try to get someone else, no one picks up. Worst customer service and rude adjuster on the few times I have spoken to her. I'll be rethinking my options when this claim is finally settled. MUST READ! The cliche of wishing I could give this crappy company a zero star couldn't be more true in my case! Hopefully John Rubic in customer claims never deals with another customer again, but after his boss just told me how he wasn't there for the call exchange between John and I he can only moving forward to basically keep an eye out. Since John hasn't had any complaints he will continue on and that is that. They are the rudest company who will not be helpful when something does happen and you have to deal with them. I had to do the calling and waiting on numerous holds to get any sort of communication out of them and all I did was hit a parked car, so I couldn't imagine how it would've been if it were worse. It was quick and simple and took less time then my hold times with MAPFRE for me to switch companies. Don't waste your time, shop around and remember customer service is easy when they want your business but beware for once you're a customer, you won't be happy with their customer service! Seeing all of the other 1 star reviews on this website and cannot say that I am surprised at all. My car was stolen in Boston two months ago and MAPFRE was doing virtually nothing about it. During the course of the 2 months they only set up one meeting and I only received a phone call from them once. Also, they would not even give me a rental car while they were "investigating" the incident! Thankfully my car was found because God knows how long they would have taken to give me some form of reimbursement for my stolen car, but now I am stuck waiting for their "investigation" to be done again so they can pay for the tow on my car and to fix damages made by the thieves. It truly baffles me that they will not even give me a rental car at this point, having waiting almost 3 months now. This is the worst insurance company ever. Bought my first home a few years ago and a crazy ex girlfriend stole literally everything I've ever owned inside my home. Her and her father and friends rented a box truck and stole everything. I mean literally everything. The insurance company did the investigation for almost a year. Recording me coming to my home several times taking pictures. They even ran my credit. Then denied the claim. Said they spoke with my ex girlfriend and father. They said yes we took his things but then returned them. He's all set. What a joke. I have all pictures and reports if anyone ever wants to see it. In addition you can see a rep commented on my low rating saying he wants to help. I emailed my claim info directly to where he said. There has been no response at all. This company is garbage. I was recently introduced to Mapfre from an independent agent I was referred to. In the 25 years I've had insurance with one of the big names, I never had a claim where I or any driver on my policy was at fault until last September. My eldest son (almost 24 years old) had a relatively minor fender bender at a stop light and caused between $800 and $900 worth of damage to another person's vehicle. No injuries fortunately and barely visible damage to this other vehicle but admittedly it was my son's fault. My son's vehicle is older and we only had liability on it so there was no claim and we accomplished the repairs on his car ourselves. Again, that's the only claim I've ever had where a person under my policy was at fault. He has since moved out on his own and is no longer even residing in the same state let alone the same household. Mapfre was made aware of this and I'm told underwriting now requires proof of insurance (copy of current insurance card) from him, I suppose that's to ensure that I'm not lying and that my son actually no longer resides with us and has coverage? All this despite the fact that I have already provided them a statement and his complete new 'out of state' address along with his vehicle information. The younger of my two sons has been on his own policy for 3 years and does not reside with us either. I was not aware he had accrued some speeding tickets but it really doesn't affect me as he is 22 years old and LIVING ON HIS OWN WITH HIS OWN INSURANCE POLICY THAT HE'S HAD FOR THREE YEARS!!! Again, I am being required by underwriting to provide his insurance card apparently as proof of his coverage and that he won't be driving a vehicle on our policy. Of course I provided his complete address and vehicle information in the email statement I sent along with that information regarding my eldest son when I "testified" that they no longer reside in our home. I realize they don't know me from Adam but who the heck do you think you are calling my integrity into question? It occurs to me that they obviously don't need any new clients if people have to go through this type of interrogation. One thing I will say is I am thankful that I found this out now instead of when I had to make a claim (God forbid). From the sounds of the other posts here you might as well start looking for a new agency if you ever have to file with this outfit. If I were a client and had to do that I would first file then immediately start looking for another agency before they had a chance to drop you. It sounds like that happens very quickly though (them dropping you) so maybe scouting out a new agency before you need to file a claim with these guys would make the transition even quicker. Personally, I've never been treated like that (a child) before and I have to say it would be a cold day on the sun before I'd give these clowns even a slight bit of consideration. My suggestion would be, if you are with them currently, get away from them as soon as you can. There are so many bad reviews out here on these guys I'm wondering how long before they go under. You can't last too long if your business model is to completely disrespect and screw every last client you have. They have money of mine currently but as of tomorrow that will no longer be the case! One thing is for sure, Jaime Tamayo, CEO and Randall Becker, CFO of Mapfre, you will be hearing directly from me in the very near future regarding this treatment. Update from late Friday: I received a call from a MAPFRE claims supervisor about my case. But he spoke the same story line I have been hearing during the last five months: although the prior claims adjusters that I talked to had already inquired and also received the adequate explanation from the repair shop why the repair of my SUV took several weeks, this supervisor wants to repeat the same inquiry process. He already has the explanation of the repair shop in the claim records in their own computer system. So, the information is there and the supervisor confirmed it on Friday's call with me. I think they just want to voluntarily slow the reimbursement process. It is unbelievable that they do not trust their underlings' records, but it is also economically inefficient and costly for a company to keep spending time to receive the same information from the same source. Eventually the insurance customers of MAPFRE end up paying for these guys' inefficient way of running their insurance business with high premiums. And it is surely not unfair to me, either. I have been trying to get reimbursed for a small amount of expense since middle of January 2018. Again, don't choose these MAPFRE as your insurance and if you have a reimbursement claim against them, use a lawyer from the beginning. MAFRE team is unprofessional and openly unethical. read more

Wow, where to begin? Well, a good friend has been having some rough times with Commerce as of late. (She is 30 and has had Commerce first for her car and for everything else since she was 16 with no claims on any of her policies.) Her fiance, previously sober 4 years went off the deepend, and they seperated and put their house on the market, He went in and soaked the house in gasoline, then, thank god, relizing what he'd done called her and said come here, I screwed up, etc. I know not a great story so far... Well after the cops sawed of the edges of furniture, drilled holes in her hard wood floors, and ripped down all the insulation in the basement. (evidence) She turned to her insurance to see if she could file a claim for the cleaning (cops turned off all utilities until ServPro came to clean up). He was arrested first hospitalized then in custidy and is now awaiting trial. The claim was turned down becasue he was on the policy. A rough surprise. Well, she had to hire professional cleaners and replace all the carpets and through out most her furniture. Now, Commerce sent her a letter saying that her policy would be canceled because the house is vacant. So she called them and said she would move back in, so don't cancel it. Commerce called back and said, sorry bad news, your policy is canceled. There reason is that he is a risk, (not that they would pay out anyways) even though there is a restraining order in place for him against the house, and again he is in custidy and awaiting trial. So to add insult to injury, She has tried to get other insurance but they say the claim is still open. (open claim on canceled policy???) Now she is in danger of having her house forclosed on becasue she dosn't have home insurrance and can't purchase any. Sounds to me like the best insurrance might be not to have any. I think this is especialy true with Commerce. Now all she has to due is hire a lawyer to force the sale of the house (he's on the note and unwilling to sign the paperwork to put the house back on the market (had to take it off obviously during this). She's a sweet girl, a good Mother, and a caring Nurse. The only saving grace is that there is some equity in the home. Anyways, This has certainly contributed to me loosing all faith in this system. If anything happens like this again my advice may be to not call anyone. deal with him physically (I'll help) but don't dare call the cops or your insurrance company. they'll only make a bad situation worse. p.s. god forbid you ever get into an accident with an insurer when not at fault from this garbage company!!first of all, it was very difficult to get a hold of the adjuster , then they took 6 months for them to do an "investigation" to determine who's fault it was and my car was undrivable and had to rent a car. so i decided to go through my insurance and get a refund for my deductible which i recently received and then i call to get a re imbursement for the car rental and they kept me on hold for a long time then apparently the person handling the case is not available!! ******horrible customer service!!!!*********** read more

My most recent experience was as a result of storm damage from this past winter. While I am relatively pleased with the outcome, the process absolutely sucked. I NEVER spoke with the person they originally assigned my claim to (despite several attempts on my part)...and they kept on reassigning the claim to a different person so that I had to re-explain several times what was going on. Furthermore, until the very end (months) of the process, no one had the courtesy to call me...I always had to call them. They put me off for two months with explanations that they were waiting for more information from the adjustor who came to my home (which was bull) and then ended up settling for the exact amount noted on his original estimate months before...this DESPITE the fact that I had sent them visual proof of additional damage as per their request. Update: DO NOT believe anything that this disgrace of a company's "social media" department is posting on here. These people do not care about you, and at best all they will do is refer you to the same agents that you are already dealing with, who also do not care about you. Complete waste of time. These scumbags now want to charge me an extra $700 a year for a pothole on the highway, AT NIGHT, during the worst winter we have seen in the past 30+ years. Are you kidding me! Mapfree insurance sucks ! Reported a claim 3 months ago where my vehicle became a total loss & have yet to receive my check because they suck at taking care of paying customers. im now being charged over 1,000 for a rental they authorized then changed the authorization once I had rental. Had to get a whole new car without mapfree help when I pay insurance for this exact reason to be covered. They have me going thought the most draw out process to investigate my claim for no apparent reason & I pay them every month on time automatically. I'm on my way out..... My wife and I are insured by them - $1,300 per year for our two vehicles. We bought a 22 year old third vehicle to have in the driveway for convenience. Total increase to our policy - $1,000. Why? They are charging an "excess vehicle fee" since we have two drivers and three cars - one of which is the 22 year old vehicle. The rates for our two primary cars increased BEFORE we pay the fair value insurance on the third vehicle. Between my deductible and first year premium, I'd pay more than the car's worth in insurance if it's totaled with in the first year. I'll be moving to an insurance company that realizes you can only drive 24/7 regardless of the number of vehicles you own. read more
