On the 3rd of February of this month I decided to cancel my policy because I had to junk my car unfortunately it was 21-years old and there was no problem canceling my policy and it went into effect right away. Then the next day I checked my checking account and they decided to take money from me I didn't authorized or gave them permission to do so. I'm very upset and I took further action right away and when or if I decide to get another used car in a few months, I will be shopping around to find great quotes with other insurance companies and I will no longer allow any of them take money out of my account automatically I rather just pay them a check either by mail or online it's so sad that I put my trust into this company and excuse me they F**ked me not anymore, and you people thought I was so stupid not to watch what's been taken out of my account, well guess what "I'M NOT!!! your the stupid ones that's losing me for a customer, Karma is a b**ch for you!!! I still don't recommend this company and please avoid them at all costs, they will take money out of your account without your permission if you decided to cancel your policy with them if you do payments automatically every month. After reading a number of the very poor reviews that Mapfree American Commerce has received, I can only agree. They are the worst. It's been an 8 month battle, I feel my claims representative has never been helpful. It seems her goal is to presents hoop after hoop for me to jump through. I have never spoken to her that I haven't felt demeaned by her sarcastic and uncaring attitude. Mapfree dips into my bank account promptly on the first of the month for their premium, but when it's their turn to come through the battle is on. I received a letter from them today, that my car insurance was canceled last month. I got no cancelation letter, no notice of any type. I had house damage during a declared state of emergency (blizzard). Despite it being declared a national emergency situation, and federally funded, MAPFRE pocketed federal funds (as best as I can tell) and would not pay back the full cost. Worse, to prevent ice / water damage again, I put in a commercial grade rubber membrane roof. MAPFRE said they would not pay for it. Then in the end when they were asked to pony up money to reimburse for the kitchen and other rooms that had to be redone, they would not pay unless I had a commercial roof put in. Still, they would not pay for the rubber membrane roof. Nor repairs to the soffits. After it all, they threatened to discontinue our insurance. "The Check is in the mail" ... I've been dealing with Commerce for three weeks now, i.e. since a driver who is insured by them hit my car with a commercial vehicle. This was an easy third party claim, one where the driver leapt from his truck and yelled, "I'm so sorry, I didn't even see your car!" and it was witnessed by a police officer. At first call, Commerce was polite and kind even, but then...once the police report was filed, they became unreachable. The agent I was assigned never returned calls, didn't inform me about "next step options" (which I requested a number of times after seeing their insurance adjuster). The report from the adjuster told me that the estimate re: damages was not the same as authorization to fix the vehicle. Call to agent. Left message. no reply. Yes, it's a pattern. When the agent answered her phone last week she explained "well, we mailed a check to you yesterday... ." I told her I wanted them to reimburse the auto shop that would repair it, and she said, "well you didn't submit a request form for that. Or a receipt. So we mailed you the check." Meanwhile, between unanswered calls to Commerce Insurance, I'd been trying to figure out what would happen if they declared my car "totaled," which the adjuster had suggested was a possibility. Request form? What request form? Had anyone actually answered the messages I left, I would have my car repaired by now. Meanwhile, I live within easy driving distance of the place of origin for the check, and the check is still "in the mail" seven days later. What's great about this? They asked me to call back to check on it in a few days. I'm just about to move out of state, and here's something I know: when I need to find a new auto insurance company (b/c my company doesn't carry insurance where I'm moving...), I won't be signing up with the Commerce Insurance Co. read more

Disrespectful under the veil of just being professional. I called and reported a claim after the passing of my father, on his vehicle. MAPFRE did not document the claim, although claimed they did. They were advised not to get in touch with my mother - as she was grieving, obviously. MAPFRE not only tried to get in touch with my deceased father, but had the gall to tell my mother in a chat with them to have a wonderful day. When mom reminded them of the conversation and that she had just lost her husband of 49 years, the woman stated that she could still have a wonderful day. They called and asked for my father and called him a she, as if you can't see the names on the account that you are calling about. My parents names were not one's that could be confused as unisex names, in other words they were not named "Pat". There should have been no confusion - and since I called about it, there was no reason to deal with anyone but me. Once I escalated this to management - they were pleasant but not kind and not thoughtful, like the rest of the organization. The AVP who I ended up being routed to after calling the CEO's office - as no one would escalate - was shrewd, pleasant but was not going to budge on what I needed or wanted. She didn't understand that 15 hours of my time was unacceptable on this issue, and she was adding to it. Do not use. read more

This is an absolute terrible insurance company.. heres a story for you all. October of 2019 i left my car parked and came back and the front was smashed. i call the police and get a police report. I wait till the reports available to me and i send it in as well as a call to my lovely insurance company. So the agent was givong my a hard time trying to say i was lying or making up a story. So she told me with a hit and run you obviously go through an investigation. Secondly,I had two appraisers come to my house, one who inspected my whole car. Judging the whole cars damages from back bumper to passenger doors and not the specific damages from the accident in question(my front bumper and enging!). So then i had a second appraiser come to my house, a crash expert and he asked me alot of questions about the vehicle and accident. Then i sent him my pictures from the scene of the accicdent and he sent it over to my agent who is covering my case. From novemver 28, when he sent it in. I called her days later December 6th wondering wheres my finished case. She says she doesnt have it. So we call the crash expert again and asked for another copy of the report. And now today is december 18th. I just called her and now shes saying she recieved an email from him, not telling me from what date. But now shes saying it wont sync. Absolutely horrible insurance! Service to claims are ridiculously slow! I am so thankful for my reputable insurance that I carry and would never recommend this company to anyone. My daughter was involved in an accident where Mapfre's insured driver hit the car behind her forcing that car into her and her car into the one in front of her, Total loss on her car! It was a week before they even went out to appraise the vehicle. They took advantage of her youth by offering about $1000 less than what her car should of been valued at. Sent her the release form over night, which she against my advice signed and sent back. Another week has passed and they now will not send her the settlement on the vehicle even though the release form has been signed and sent to them promptly. I wish I could score it negative 5 star because it is that horrible of a company to deal with! The sales agent Wade has always been great. However my lienholder sent me a letter saying they'd been notified by MAPFRE that the auto ins. on my 9 month old car had lapsed. I confirmed that automatic payments were up to date, the ins. co. said I was currently insured... no explanation. Why did I hear from the lienholder and not MAPFRE. Currently I am in the middle of making a claim. The sheriff came to my door late one night and told me my car had been stolen and in an accident. Ins. investigator Steve Castellanos waited a week to call then made an appointment for 3.5 wks after the incident. Now he wants to make another appointment to "interview" my fiancé, who isn't even an insured and wasn't driving the car, 39 days after the incident. Steve doesn't want to work weekends...guess what Steve I worked every weekend for 30 years:/ Two other agents told me that sheriff would give them (ins.co.) an accident report. The investigator mentioned info that was in the report,(so he has seen it) then he tells me I must go get a report and give it to him. I wonder how long they intend to stall. They also try to get away with low balling their repair estimates by replacing items with low cost crap that doesn't have the same options like my mirror with memory and heat, they tried to replace it with a regular mirror. I recently had to file a claim with MAPFRE following a hit and run accident in which my parked vehicle was struck by an unidentified party. My experience was negative for several reasons: 1) MAPFRE's portfolio of drive-in adjusters are not convenient for large swathes of my area. I had to drive more than 30 minutes to get to an adjuster who was located deep within the bowels of a nearly incomprehensible office park. The adjuster's hours were Mon-Thu noon-4pm and Fri 10a-2p. That's right, the guy was open 20-hours a week. Good luck if you work. 2) I practically had to beg the internal claims adjuster to e-mail me a copy of the appraisal. I asked her for it on a Friday so that I could make an appointment with the body shop. She told me "You don't want to put your car into a body shop on a Friday." I didn't ask her that, I asked her for an electronic copy of the appraisal as I hadn't received one in the mail for three days following my LOTR-esque quest to the adjuster's office. 3) MAPFRE offers a disappearing deductible credit for good drivers. However, you must exceed your deductible for it to take effect. The appraisal for my repairs was $344. I was informed that because the appraisal did not exceed my $500 deductible, I was not eligible to receive the credit. Thus, my out of pocket expenses were $344 and would have been the entire amount of the repair up to the $500 mark at which time they would drop to $250 ($500-$250). So I was penalized because there was not enough damage to my vehicle. 4) MAPFRE's appraiser deemed that a used part was sufficient to fix my three-year old vehicle. IMHO, a three year old vehicle should receive a new OEM part, not something pulled out of a junkyard. read more

Mapfre is the WORST. They operate unethically, lie, double talk, ignore emails, value cars in a vacuum. The WORST customer service I have ever seen. I was hit and the other driver was at fault. The other driver was insured by Mapfre too. What a clusterf**k. They are so dishonest in their dealings. I was lied to repeatedly. For a month plus I'm told there is no police report so I finally call the officer and he tells me that the accident report was filed 2 days after the accident. I call Mapfre up and they still insist it's still not available. Their tune changed quickly once I told them I had spoken with the officer and he was expecting a call from them. They can't pay out anything because liability hasn't been "established". This is after one of a half dozen people I spoke to told me the other driver had already accepted responsibility in the first week and the police report was available to them (I assume they had it but it's just a tactic to not pay). Then I'm told they can't pay out until they finalize expenses. They were waiting on the medical bills for the guy that hit me to be finalized. What does that have to do with my loss? When it came time to value the car it was another mess. The original appraiser said $14k. Once the body shop spent 30 minutes on it went to $24k. They proceed to offer me about $10k less than what the car is worth. They arbitrarily decide that ALL the comps were in better condition than my car and dinged me against all their values with a flat "charge". They didn't see any of the comps. One of the comps had 2X the mileage yet was in better shape than mine. They wouldn't explain that. They adjust your value downward at $0.282 / mile if you have more miles than the comp yet you only get $0.193 if your mileage is lower than the comp. How is that possible? Shouldn't that be illegal? They "weight" the various ways they do the comps yet they don't do it on a 100%. They had 155% in total weight and then brought it back down pushing even higher % to the lowest methodology. They make NO EFFORT to correctly value the car. My car had many options that don't exists in the KBB or NADA tools so they don't give you ANY value for them. Effectively they found an "equivalent" car that had an MSRP of $55k and said it was the same as mine that had an MSRP of $77k. They are very simple. They have a tool to "value" and they have no ability to use professional judgment and go outside the script and use some common sense. No amount of real world comps will convince them otherwise....."I am robot....cannot think...must not think"....."I do not care what these real listings say....there is no box on my forms to click for these options so you do not have them....." I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to move up $6k then I finally get another weak response saying..."too bad...if you don't like it spend more time, energy, stress and dollars and fight us through arbitration or take us to court". I've been a customer for 18 years. I wasn't even at fault. They were basically saying you should be thankful you are getting anything. I was also stranded on the side of a highway. Taxis were not allowed to pick you up. Uber wouldn't pick me up. Car rental companies would not pick you up so I had a friend come and get me. He drove 7 hours. I paid him out of my pocket for his "mileage" and babysitter. Do you think Mapfre would cough up a $1? Hell no. You "don't have a receipt" was all they could say. More talking from a script vs. being understanding/logical about a situation. They are all complete scumbags. If I'd taken a taxi/Uber/or car rental we would have paid out they said. I tried to explain how I couldn't....and they couldn't care less...I can almost see their snickers and smiles when they found another way to deny payment. They treat you with disdain. Calls go unanswered. Emails go unanswered. I'm certain if I didn't do all the follow-up they never would have made an effort to close the claim. I asked to speak to someone else who might be able to help and she refused telling me if I wanted more information I would have to call back. Seriously one of the rudest companies I've ever dealt with. A few months back, my neighbor accidentally bumped into my car with his and we called to file a claim. The woman answering the phone sounded very annoyed and made large sighing noises when asking questions. If that wasn't bad, the adjuster was absolutely terrible. It took several days to return my call and was highly irritated because I decided to not use a Subaru dealership that was located next to commerce, but rather another company about 20 min away. This company sucks. I had a leased vehicle insured through this company. I returned the vehicle to the dealership on April 30,2010 and the dealership processed it on Monday May 3,2010. The agent never canceled the policy even though I have the plate return receipt. Commerce has since reported my husband and I to the registry for cancellation for non-payment. Why I asked and they all have no answer, but I can not shop around for insurance. WTF. How can they get away with this? I chose mapfre 3 years ago even after some friends told me not to do it and clearly they were right! Worst customer service. You call with questions and they give you nothing but attitude, especially Janice Rockwood-Berry! The phones are recorded but obviously they don't care about customer service! I called in with questions in regards to my cars claim, since my car was totaled, and when I got a hold of Janice, my claim adjuster, she had an attitude during the conversation especially when I would have her repeat certain details so that I can call back with supporting details as to why I believe my car was worth more. After multiple emails and phones calls I was still left unsure. During one call she gave me one number for my odometer then after I provided her with my research she gave me another number and then when I finally said mail me my check, since I was over it I receive paperwork with another number and the check attached, at this point im extremely confused and annoyed. Just seems like nothing is organized. Since I was confused I called in and I was able to reach someone from her team whose name I wish I could recall . I started to ask questions about how many miles does my odometer really have because paperwork said one thing yet I was told something else. He cut me off with an attitude and once again the phones are recorded I told him excuse me let me finish so he let me finish yet he had an attitude and told me that they didn't update the mileage after seeing the odometer I told him that made no sense because if you can update the date on the paperwork then you can do the same on the mileage. I told him I would not be signing anything until i receive documents with the correct information. He had an attitude telling me it would make the process longer I told him I DONT CARE at this point im annoyed so I told him I dont care if it takes longer its just a check and I want my documents to have the correct information. I WILL NOT BE INSURING MY NEXT CAR WITH MAPFRE. I get its your job so do it properly if you hate your job quit PERIOD! read more

Mapfre insurance is probably one of the worst companies out there. They have done nothing but try and Escape responsibility and not pay out. I am a single father of two young boys. On May 3rd I was hit by one of their insured, he turned in front of me on a green light 100% his fault, police came and everything. It took mapfre 3 weeks to determine liability. The whole time they would not pay for a rental car and I was put out. Even after their insured was deemed liable they continued to drag their feet and talk me in circles. I had just gotten the car 2 months prior and put $4000 down which was all of my savings. Now the car is totaled, but they wont even give me enough to cover the loan based on some third party loop hole. This I had to accept, even if i wasnt happy. I have to pay 300 out of pocket to pay the loan to get my title from the loan holder, so that I can have it salvaged for maybe 700 dollars. On top of this, mapfre still havnt paid the yard where my car has been sitting. The bill on that is now over 1700 dollars. Mapfre said I needed to have it out by June 13th. Which I attempted to do, but cant because they havnt paid the lot people. This in turn is starting to add up out of pocket for me. I have missed work, had to cancel my kids vacation, cant afford to pay for my youngest's school tuition for next year, and have no savings or car...only debt. Again, mapfre is an awful company and I dont understand how they can treat people so badly. They dont even deserve one star. read more

I had MAPFRE / COMMERCE on 2 vehicles for many years. When Commerce was bought by MAPFRE, an international company, things went downhill. My daughter had an accident with her Honda. The average retail value for her car was $8000. MAPFRE / COMMERCE wanted to total the car with $1400 estimated damage. After many weeks of tense negotiation, with the help of my autobody guy, they agreed to have it repaired at a flat fee, even if more damage was found after repairs were started. My autobody guy was formerly on the state insurance board and without his help I would not have prevailed. At the time of my repair he had 3 other vehicles he was arguing with low ball insurance totals. All 3 vehicles were MAPFRE / COMMERCE insured! I also have MAPFRE / COMMERCE commercial insurance for my small business. I recently put in a claim for an item I damaged while working in a customer's home. The total payout would have been $800. It took them over a month to review and in the end my claim was denied. They told me if I had broken the item indirectly while working on something else it would have been covered. Anything I break while working on is not covered???? I hope that $800 will keep them in business! I will be dropping their commercial insurance also. If you're in Massachusetts try Plymouth Rock Assurance. I've had 2 claims with them for my son and both times their first offer was more than fair. Disclaimer: This review applies strictly to the sales/quotation process alone. I have not yet had any claims with Mapfre/Commerce so cannot comment on that aspect. I am an experienced driver with ~6 years of driving experience outside the US but having had limited US driving history, buying auto insurance wasn't very smooth. I obtained quotes from several big names as well as from local insurance agents working with New England area companies. Some entertained my prior records, others didn't. Of those who did, Mapfre offered the best coverage within my budget. However, what truly set them apart was the sales representative (Jose Abraham in the Webster office) who was very diligent, patient and responsive throughout the sales process. He explained all charges and discounts clearly and transparently (why something did or did not apply, for example) and provided me with updated quotes every time I requested an addition/subtraction to the policy. On the actual day of the car delivery at the dealership, he was again very quick in getting things done, and done right. In fact, the sales manager at the dealership was surprised at how efficient my "insurance guy" was. While I understand that everyone puts their best foot forward while trying to close a sale, I think offering great prices while being transparent, responsive and courteous towards your customers would qualify for good customer service. Advice for those visiting the US and buying auto insurance: obtain copies of local driving records from your local licensing authority before traveling and then shop for companies who entertain such records to provide you the necessary credits. read more

I actually utilized this company as my insurance carrier for a couple of years. That experience was horrible, they like to not send the bills and then finally you get cancellation notices for your insurance unless you pay what they demand and the associated fees they add. I was happy to get rid of them and move to a much more friendly and cheaper company. A few weeks ago I had a very minor accident, a gentleman backed into me at the gas station and we decided to let it go and guess who his insurance carrier was.... A few days later I got a call from MAPFRE and when I called back I ended up talking to a very nice young lady who was very helpful. I needed to call back to talk to the gentleman who was handling the claim, Elliot Falcon, and he was the complete opposite. This man was rude and insulting, I doubt he has ever taken a class in customer service in his life. He was also ignorant in the law and was personally insulting to me even though I was the one whose vehicle was struck by the guy driving in reverse. They charged me extra 180 dollars just because I had a name change and my name didnt match the BSEE degree certificate, without notifying me. I sent in the document as soon as I received that notification from the insurance agent. But they were so adamant about charging me extra money even after providing ny name change court papers that I think this company is simply sucker for money and not for the wellbeing of its customers. Up to now I had no issues paying my premiums and I liked the roadside assistance. Just had my first accident and the experience is HORRIBLE. The person handling my claim is rude, I emailed twice over 2 weeks ago and no return call yet and most importantly I had $500 deductible for last 2 yrs on my BMW and when I called to switch to my Lexus the agent put me at $1,000 deductible and never sent me any email or mail correspondence confirming changes and now they say I have to pay $1,000 deductible instead of my usual $500. Thinking they might be good for roadside assistance but not for actually covering and protecting me in accidents. I canceled my policy with Liberty Mutual and went with MAPFRE (Commerce Insurance) a few years ago. They give a AAA discount and their rates were better. When I had an accident, there was no problem getting a rental and having my vehicle repaired. It happened in February, so there were lots of claims because of the winter we were having in New England, I'm sure. My car needed to stay in the shop longer because we were hit with more snow. I would like to give no stars but I don't have a choice my girl insured a dump truck play the boatload of money to get it on the road about three weeks later haven't received a bill so we go down to the insurance company and they said we were cancelled I said how could that be it hasn't even been a month they said I was four days late I said you going to cancel me four days late my first month I had to give them another $420 to get back on the road only 3 weeks later I have other vehicles insured with Quincy Mutual and I've never had this problem I am going to tell my girlfriend and her son when these policies are over to go to Quincy Mutual they have been off this is my first experience with Matt fire and the very horrible do yourself a favor go to Quincy Mutual my insurance agent told me they do that to newcomers once they build a trust they'll give you more time than 4 days and my girl is never late we just haven't gotten a bill our first one that's what happened and they would not help me read more

This place is a joke. Do not go here. Not only do they have the worst hours and terribly uneducated claims reps BUT they are also so bad at their jobs that somehow I have SEVEN accidents on my driving record. I should have TWO in the last 5 years. I went to go get insurance with someone else and they quoted me $1200/month and when i asked why, this is what they told me.
