I was rear ended by a Mapfre client. I took it to A local body shop and was able to get a quote. It took a week for a Mapfre employee to come look at the damage. I was told to wait for the claims adjuster to call. It has been 3 more days and no one has called. To top it off, the Mapfre quote was $200 less than the body shop. I was told they will have to negotiate with the body shop before I can get my car fixed. The whole cost is under $1000. I would hate to see how horrible they are with larger claims. One Star is far too kind, I wish there were zero stars. This was, hands down, the worst customer service I have ever received from a company. Any company. I've been a customer for years, never had an incident. I got into an accident in my car (I wasn't at fault) and then my troubles began. While the first agent was polite he only called me back for one of every 4 calls I would make. Once the car was determined to be a total loss, I was transferred to the second agent. This guy was extremely rough and was even worse about calling back - so much so that I had to call the previous agent and get him to bug him to call me. The reasons for the calls - I had been given a rental car while for the duration. During the first 10 days I got a call from the rental car company telling me that Mapfre was no longer paying for the car. I got concerned as I was travelling for business and then we were right on top of the Winter Holidays. I called (and called and called) finally getting the agent on the phone. He let me know it was a mix up and that he would email the rental agency and get right back to me. Three days later I still had not heard from him. I had only two questions I wanted answered - 1) were they covering the car and 2) when did I have to return it? I called the three days leading up to the Christmas break (his phone was updated every day to let customers know he was still in the office on each of those days) and I heard nothing. They were shut down over the holidays but the very first call I made the following day was back to him. His message let everyone know that he was out of the office and would not be returning calls for another week. And to press zero and speak with a representative. I was upset that, AGAIN, I hadn't been called back - but I pressed zero and was connected to a terrible person. The agent berated me, told me i should have known how long the rental car was for, did not listen to my story at all and then, when I let them know that I did not think we were communicating properly she told me I was wrong and that there was nothing more she would do for me. If you've read this long, you likely considering whether to buy insurance from these folks. I strongly advise that you do not. Go find another, any other, insurance company to 'help you' with your concerns. If you're Mapfre - this service is wildly unacceptable. read more

Unprofessional company and horrible experience! Find another auto insurance company. I have never written an online review before, but feel compelled to warn you of the negligent and abusive behavior of the members of this organization. I think of the thousands of dollars I have paid out to this organization for more than a decade, and remain in disbelief. With a perfect driving record under my belt, I was hit from the side by a Jeep while my car was stopped. My clear, minimal soft tissue injury was turned into a federal case when they tried to exile me from treatment through sheer threats and harassment. I saw a top Boston doctor who promptly sent me for a PT evaluation to avoid long-term effects. My PT said from day one it could take 3 or 4 months, maybe, but I really suspected it would be less based on my symptoms. PT twice a week is very inconvenient for a single working person, but I was determined to resolve this ASAP. I had gone for PT for about one month, and had not even used up the basic PIP coverage when I received threatening letters and verbal accusations to try to avert me from having what appeared to be just a few weeks or so more of treatment (I was still getting headaches, unable to lift objects well, and limiting my work time). But I was forced to get a lawyer, go for unnecessary medical appointments and tests, "ordered" (yes, per threat of not getting my needed treatment) to go to their business associate doctor located way outside of Boston to discredit ALL my medical professionals affiliated with Boston's top hospitals, all for a basic, textbook case that required minimal care. They threatened not to pay for this short treatment if I didn't go this one doctor that they hand picked. I held my ground and insisted as an INJURED person, driving three hours out of my way just wouldn't work. I must add that I got consistently INCONSISTENT information by multiple people, and no longer knew who to believe. I work in publishing and am fairly methodical about managing facts and information. I was upset for no reason, using up precious time and energy while trying to balance work, PT, and self-care. I dislike having to take the time to write this, but I wish you all the best of luck with better companies! read more

My son (a BLACK MALE) has been paying $383 for auto insurance - that MAPFRE HAS NOT BEEN REPORTING TO THE REGISTRY! I tried calling MAPFRE this morning upon discovering his policy is missing his License Plate # and they REFUSED TO TAKE THIS INFO. (He is at work and can't make the call himself.) This is UNACCEPTABLE! My son is a Black Male and has already been pulled over by the police because of this error. If he gets pulled over by the wrong Officer and ends up shot I WILL BE COMING AFTER YOU. What ever policy you have that prevents a relative from giving you info that HELPS correct an error - NEEDS TO CHANGE! I am his biological mother - we have the same last name and live at the same address. I am listed as a Driver on his policy and I also have a separate policy with you. YOU should have been able to accept the plate number (or pull his DMV Record and find his plate # yourself and correct YOUR error) and correct this matter ASAP for his SAFETY!!!!!!!!! To not do so is to be part of the problem we have in society when it comes to keeping Black Americans SAFE. I had some serious ice dam issues after the winter of 2015, so I put in a claim . I called and spoke to a representative and figured the ball would start rolling. Over a week later, I contacted my agent and they called Commerce. Oops, the claim was assigned, then just dropped. Someone would contact me soon. The independent appraiser called and he submitted his report. Three weeks after I received my copy, I have heard nothing from Commerce. I called the adjuster twice, emailed too. No response. This is the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life. My car was hit by a Commerce customer while parked outside of my house three weeks ago. The gentleman who hit my car actually left his information for me as my neighbor witnesses the entire crash. The damage was so bad that my car cannot be driven. I was given the adjusters phone number by my own insurance company, and it took her over a week to return my 3 voice messages! On top of that, in the interim I got someone else on the phone to make sure I was able to get an inspector out to see the car. The inspector never contacted me and after another week, I argued with someone at commerce to give me the inspectors number and he claimed he had never been assigned to my case. Nice. Eventually, he came out last week, but has yet to give me any information regarding my estimate and the body shop called me today stating that no one at Commerce would call him back. I was working in my home when I heard the crash. A tree shredder crushed my car before plowing into my neighbor's home. I called my insurance (commerce MAPFRE) who said ok we'll go after them and by the way you don't have rental so we'll get that from the insured's insurance. Well, I hope no one ever gets into a situation where this "insurance" company is your car totaller's insurance. They refused a rental, charged me for the TOW-LOT my car was towed to, tried to price the car based on 10k higher than odometer read, lo-balled and fought every chance they go. I know how much they screwed me because when I went looking for the same car to replace my beloved, they cost three times the paltry sum MAPFRE gave me for my car. I rarely yelp but they dropped the ball so badly that I wanted to warn people... they didn't process my direct deposit papers, so in a few months sent me a cancellation notice and a request for the whole remainder of the account. Yes, I admit I didn't check my bank statements thoroughly, I assumed they were charging me the monthly amount, but they weren't. They never sent the refund that they said they were going to for the cancellation fee (A small amount, but it's the principle). At the end of the year, they automatically pulled out of my account for the next year without my permission, and took a few WEEKS to process the refund. Highly disorganized. Commerce insurance is the worst insurance company in MA. I was a long time customer and had both my cars insured with them as well as my home. After being with them for over 12 years and not having any claims I was recently notified that they would not renew my homeowners policy because I had submitted two small claims in a three year span. In 2016 I submitted a homeowners claim that paid out 2500 dollars and then in 2019 I had to submit another claim for a measly payout of 600 dollars. They do not value their customers one bit. Stay away from commerce at all costs!!!! Since they do not know how to treat their clients I am going to be cancelling all of my insurance polies with them. a scam. I bought insurance for my stay in Vallarta at Vidanta in Mexico. What a nightmare Mapfre was. They gave me an incredible run around to submit my bills and then paid nothing. In Mexico doctor told me to go to hospital. At the hospital I showed my payment etc for mapper and they called them and more would not pay. I was told to submit when I got home to Canada. This I did. After months of back and forth with delaying tactics and repetitive submission of bills, they refused to pay. I am exhausted with the game so I give up. Not a MAPFRE customer, but was in an accident with a MAPFRE customer, and the experience has ensured MAPFRE will never get my business. Two months have passed since the accident and my car was just put in the shop last week and is going to be in the shop at least another week because they won't send an adjuster to the shop to write the supplement needed for the shop to finish the repairs. Every contact made in regards to my vehicle has been because I have contacted them, even though their customer is liable. It took my insurance company less than 24 hours to establish that MAPFRE was responsible for the claim because their customer was at fault, but it took MAPFRE weeks to come to the same conclusion despite the fact that the claim was filed by my insurance company. They were told when the claim was filed that I am not a resident of MA and that if the repairs had to be completed before my work contract is up. If the repairs are not completed by then, MAPFRE will hear from my attorney because 3 months to settle a claim is absolutely absurd. read more

I've had a full coverage auto policy and also an apartment rental insurance policy with this company for 7+years. I never had a ticket or accident since I got my license over 20 years ago. That is until February 2017 when someone hit the passenger side of my front bumper while it was parked in my apartment complex! I called Mapfre and submitted a claim and received a check within a week. Then in January 2018, I was t-boned by another car, which damaged the whole passenger side of my car. I informed Mapfre of the accident, which was not my fault, however I did not submit a claim since the other driver was at fault and the repairs to my vehicle and the cost of a rental would be covered by his insurance. I've never encountered a rude or disrespectful claims adjuster while conducting business with Mapfre. They've all been awesome. I live in New York not Massachusetts like most of the reviewers here but I don't know if that has anything to do with the expertise and/or attitude of the claims adjusters I've dealt with. So....why the 3 stars you ask?? Well, even though I've never had any tickets or accidents that were my fault, my insurance payments have gone from approximately $156 to $220 a month! As you can tell I am not happy about this at all! My car is paid off but I still maintain full coverage just in case. I feel like I'm being punished for things that were out of my control and if I had not been honest and reported the second accident my premiums probably wouldn't have gotten so much more expensive. I am currently working on obtaining quotes from other companies with my insurance adjuster. Hopefully we'll be successful in finding an alternative that is affordable and meets my needs . read more

After being a customer for nearly 20 years (both home and auto) and paying high premiums compared with other agencies we had two claims in one year. They reported the first claim as two separate ones in order to double the deductible. Didn't inform us what they were doing until we accidentally found out while getting new coverage. Also misreported on the national insurance data-base who the driver was & which car was involved in both incidents, then refused to respond with corrections increasing premiums with the new company. Once the corrections are finally made we can't retroactively get our rates reduced -- have to wait for the next year. Ridiculous. Have filed complaint with State as a crooked company. read more

It's rare for me to search for a website where I can write a positive review, especially for an insurance company. I settled on Yelp. I have been satisfied with the prices we pay for both our home and auto insurances which we buy through our excellent agent, McBride Insurance in Billerica, MA. Recently, I dropped one of my expensive camera lenses, a $1900 lens, which badly damaged parts inside the lens. I have an insurance rider to cover my camera equipment. I sent the lens to the manufacturer for repair and received an estimate of over $500 to repair it. I contacted MAPFRE and sent them the repair estimate, my purchase receipt for the lens, and photos of the damages. In only six days from my initial contact, I had a check in my hands for the damage. Every rep at the company with whom I spoke was very pleasant and it was so easy to reach an adjuster on the phone. I could not be more pleased with their service! read more

Dear Commerce Insurance, I recently dropped my auto insurance policy with Commerce and switched to Geico. You've seen a lot of this probably, and assumed it's all about the rates. I'm writing this note to say that it's not that simple. On May 1 2010 I was driving south on interstate 95 near Providence. The three lanes of traffic were full, and moving at about 60 miles an hour. All of the drivers in the middle lane, and I think those in the right lane as well, suddenly ran over a dozen or so iron bars, about six feet long. They must have just fallen off a truck. They started to bounce around, and one of them went through my front grill and damaged the grill and air conditioner condensor. I had to drag this piece for several miles before I could find a place to pull over and remove it. A pretty scary experience. I read my policy and then took the car in for an estimate: about $900 for repairs. Then FOR THE ONLY TIME IN 20 YEARS AS A CUSTOMER, I filed a claim. First, it was determined that this was a one-car accident. Therefore, I was deemed at-fault 100%. I suppose the assumption here is that I should have swerved to avoid the debris: that would certainly have resulted in a multi-car accident. Maybe I would have gotten a better settlement? Anyway, I'll have to pay the $500 deductible on repairs worth $900. So now that my insurance company has run me over, they put their machine in reverse just to make sure I'm flat... The brochure says that if I have repairs done at an 'approved' garage, the work will be guaranteed. It doesn't say something much more important, which is that those garages will perform the repairs for the price the appraiser determines. Not knowing this, I got stuck between a garage wanting $900 and an appraisal of $515, a ridiculously low figure blamed on Massachusetts cost-control regulations. I thought that my agent would defend me, but they offered no help at all. In the end, I got a check for $15. Will Geico treat me worse than this? I don't know how they could. read more

My contact with Commerce Insurance company occurred when one of their clients pulled out in front of me. I was dong 35 M/P/H and due to him trying to dart across 4 lanes less than 50 ft from me I had no where to go. He was ticketed I was not. I was coming home from a Pet Expo and had 5 dogs with me. We were all seriously hurt and have since had 2 knee replacements - which Commerce's lawyers did not feel were caused by the accident... but they were. (X-rays 4 yrs after the accident showed the imprint of where my jeans were embedded in my knee on the knee cap from the impact of hitting the dashboard) BTW they were brutal about this. Apparently their attorney needs to learn about anatomy since he was unable to tell that the knee cap is not the same as the non weight bearing bones below the knee. I did point this out to him that anatomy study might help him. This was also mind boggling when you know their insured never told them about the accident - he tried to blame it on his son...who was not in the car. His reason was they were driving a rental car because their son had an accident and was not old enough to get a rental car. they were driving the rental and the son had their car - therefore it was the son's fault.... This is what has bugged me even more. all 5 dogs were hurt and required care to the tune of $5000. The man assigned to this case said on several occasions, on a recorded phone line, that the cost of their care would be paid for by Commerce - like everything else about this company they did not pay for all of their care. Even with receipts for the full amt they paid less than $1000 total. I am writing this because of their 'new' ads about how they pay for the care of pets if they are with you in an accident. I have contacted them several times about this but they seem to feel since there was a settlement on the other part of the case they are free and clear. Their insured hurt my dogs and even a promise to pay was a lie. Our former unthinking insurance agent put our coverage with them - notice I said former. I refused to stay with an agent who would think we should be happy with this company on any level. To me Commerce will always owe me the $4000 for the care of the dogs... The only way to make this right would be to pay what they promised. read more

A little over a year ago in 2011 I was in a motor vehicle accident. I rear ended somebody. Now reading this and being from Massachusetts I know what you all just said. I am at fault, right? I used to think so too. Until I rear ended somebody and knew what the law said, but also knew I was not at fault". The vehicle and I were traveling back on Rte 16 from Holliston to Milford|. A School Bus started to stop|. I went to down shift (Manual Transmission) and started to apply my brakes.. I was about a telephone pole away to a telephone pole and a half traveling about 25 miles per hour". (Slow in this area) Speed limit is I think 30-35 mph|. The guy in front of me stops short well over 600 feet away from the bus we are literally down the street from it so he stops short slamming on his brakes. (Must have been texting distracted, something.) I hit my brakes and due to wet weather my ABS kicks in. It was like I never touched the brakes. I traveled so many feet and didn't slow down. I was standing on the brakes when I rear ended this person. Keep in mind I was a telephone pole or more and traveling slower than the posted speed limit due to the wet weather. I call the police and one cruiser shows up. I try to tell the police officer he slammed on brakes as if startled for no reason and that we stopped short. Cop looked at me and said doesn't matter. Didn't bother asking the other driver to see his phone or if he received any texts. In the Police officers report. With out ever asking me my distance said I was traveling too closely. I have been a safe driver for 12 years. Stayed with commerce because they were my first insurer ever. Been in a few accidents where I was not ever at fault and it was the other driver. I don't get tickets. I don't speed and I obey the law. Commerce decided to follow the Massachusetts laws with out taking into account of extenuating circumstances. I was so shooken up by this even I took my truck 98 Frontier to get brakes checked. They checked out fine, but the dealer stated as they age it is possible they check out fine, but fails to monitor wheel speed accurately. I bought a new truck same day. Never did I want this to happen again. Despite my corrective measures, Wet weather and Mechanical failure. Commerce found me 100% at fault because of a police officers assumption and complacency with his job, to assume the guy in the rear is always at fault. I will no longer be there customer. Further more a year before the accident I wanted to switch insurers to get accident forgiveness. (Statistic said the longer you go with out the more likely you are of having an accident. So I asked my insurer at Commerce and they said they didn't offer it, but not too worry because you can appeal and they are always reasonable. Today I found that to be a lie. Or more or less they are calling me a liar. So I will no longer being doing business with them and find a company after my surcharge is up and get the forgiveness at a premium. Because now to appeal this decision its 20 dollars for appeal and 275 dollar and up in court fees. Worst Insurance company ever. There was a rep sitting right there at my appeal. I am ex Military. I have honor, Integrity and will not be called a liar. I'm heading to Progressive or AllState. At least they listen to their customer from their reviews. Easily one of the worst decisions I have ever made was using commerce. I was in a accident a few years ago where a friends car with geico was also involved. I was able to sit there and witness my gieco insured friend get inspection quote and checks out to him in a matter of days while just getting a figure from commerce took nearly 3 weeks. Putting aside their slow response time. inability to modernize their service (no online payments rate quotes ect.) they have truly atrocious service their representatives I delt with were incompetent, rude on the phone, and were always passing of responsibilty for their mistakes onto everyone else. when I looked at geico and progressive I got a quick signifigantly lower rate quote in minutes that would've taken commerce days. Never go with commerce there are a dozen different companies that you will have a better experience with. read more

I recently had to contact Commerce to make a claim against a woman that backed into my car in a parking lot (I was not in the car at the time) but she was gracious to be honest and provide the necessary info on herself and her insurance. Well this was wonderful and I thought everything would be ok- then the insurance nightmare came- I spoke with the appraisor afterwards- he was mumbling into phone and actually irritated that I was not available for the time he offered. He finally did come to view my car and left a note on windshield- not even any verbal communication even when I walked my son to the bus next to him. Well the appraisal came in but is 50% of what my repair shop gave me since they found additional problems. I called commerce and they basically said to have the shop contact the appraisor to work out- oh and they will only pay $25 for a car rental for me----- and I wasn't even in the car at the time of the accident. Needless to say the repair shop has been trying to call the appraisor and finally got an appt to inspect the vehicle again at the repair shop but gave me one time slot which is on my work day and I couldn't make it in. Now the appraisor said he is too buy and maybe can view after Thanksgiving some time!!! this is there job! the inconvenience is magnified by the fact that when I called to review the claim and report they stated that they are not admitting any liability- I reminded them that IWAS NOT EVEN IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH AND THE OTHER PERSON HAS ALREADY CALLED THEM AND ADMITTED LIABILITY! This is truly amazing- the only positive thing is the car is driveable- but it is brand new and should not be all dented in! I would never go with this insurance company- luckily I have TRAVELERS and they have always been wonderful. read more

I've had auto insurance with MAPFRE / Commerce now for three years and have had nothing but good experiences. My premium is a very fair price and the two times I've needed their help there have been no issues. When my windshield needed to be replaced, it was done promptly at no cost to me. Then earlier this year I was rear-ended and filed a claim with Commerce, and my car was in the shop in a matter of days, and Commerce handled the entire process and I didn't have to pay a cent. I don't see myself changing insurance anytime soon. read more

I'm real happy with their service. Prices are ok, and their service to me has been pretty quick and usually they have been on top of things. I've had several claims on several policies and they have all made their way through the process. I was reluctant to say "as good as it gets" but I don't have anything to complain about. After being rear ended at a traffic light, and having the other driver take off, I did the best I could by following and getting her plate number. I filed a claim and went through the process, 9 months later I'm told claim is denied because the other driver denies the accident. Although my own company spent more time trying to prove I made the whole thing up instead of protecting me and standing by me during this they have done everything they could not to pay. My family and I have been with this company for 15+ years and this claim has been a nightmare. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT use this company. They are filled with tricks. My car was in the shop for 8 weeks and they only covered a rental for 2 weeks. STAY FAR AWAY FROM MAPFRE. Great Insurance company until you need to actually use it. I was hit in a busy intersection by another Commerce driver. After submitting my claim, I received a check for the damages. I followed up with my claim rep, Peter Stefan, who told me I was found not at fault and my deductible was waived. Dropped my car off to be fixed and was told a rental would be there waiting for me. The rental co. said that the person at commerce who needs to approve the rental was not there to authorize it and I would have to put in on my credit card for now. Fast forward, two weeks later and several unreturned phone calls to Commerce. I finally chased down the person who Commerce was telling me for 2 weeks needed to authorize it. He said I have to talk to someone else and that she has the accident being down as 50-50 and a rental wouldn't be covered. I immediately called my claim rep, Peter Stefan, to get it straightened out. Since he had told me on 2 occasions that he didn't find me at fault. I was thinking that Peter would talk to the other rep and get it straightened out. But no, Peter was rude and talking down to me like I was a 3 year old and said there is nothing he can do. I then asked to speak with his manager, Scott Scranton, who then gave me conflicting information from Peter but said he will only instruct the person to pay 50% on the rental car. Even though they paid the claim as if it was not my fault and told me on 2 occasions that I was not found at all, they will still not cover the full rental. They gave me the run around for 2 weeks and now I'm stuck with this huge Enterprise bill (half of which is because the adjuster took a full week to look at the vehicle. read more

Commerce drops a Lexus owner that over insures Never files a claim. Paid three years on time or before bills due. Dump insured because I was seriously injured in another commerce insured car as pasenger. Wow I'm disgusted by how commerce has treated me. This incident has cost me dearly and now my so called insurance company commerce mapfre Cancels my insurance after I make my last payment I over insure my car Paid every payment on time and have an excellent driving record. I will shop around for an honest insurance companyl Well anyone overpaying for a company that likes to take your money and runs when they have to pay. Shop around. This place should be investigated and shut down. I am a writer and have to sit to write. My back was injured from a direct hit from behind. Commerce opted to pay people to lie, follow me, and harass me. They operate like organized crime. And, after realizing that I was being honest and fair with my claim, they offered a ridiculous low amount. Meanwhile, I try to move forward--hoping they will grow some conscience and at least live up to the terms of the contract. I hope they burn in hell. Run! Don't walk. read more

I transferred my insurance over as it was supposed to be cheaper. In the long run it was the worst experience of my life. They are not friendly or helpful. Glad 1 year came and went so that I could transfer. Don't do it. Find something else. read more
