Well, what about the upcharge for eating 4 different curries with basmati rice, vegetable pakora, three different kinds of desserts (including a really delicious homemade cheese ball in a sweet, creamy soup? Also included. This left both me and my husband wondering what there is to do in Corona so we can justify a trip back to Mantra for lunch. Bonus: he got to try a goat curry for the first time. Not my thing, but good for him. He said that he wouldn't have had the guts to order it as his whole meal in case he didn't like it, but actually ended up a big fan. Great way to try new foods. We finally found a good Indian Buffet place close to Riverside with pretty good food... oh, how I miss the OC being so close to a wide variety of international cuisine. The palak paneer is excellent. The Chicken Tandoori is pretty good. I'm still looking for an Indian Buffet that serves great lamb curry. The waiter told me that they served lamb but it didn't taste like it. Hubby says he thinks it's goat meat. My favorite dessert is kheer and they have it but it's just alright l. The waiters are accomodating, the place is clean and nice. Most of the staff know us and always remember what we regularly order. The owner is super nice, genuine and concerned for every customers experience. Vegan Friendly! Mantra has an AMAZING buffet, lunch and dinner! Each time I come they have at least 2 vegan options and they are ALWAYS delicious! This place has really great food. Due to the pandemic, there's currently no dine in, but they have food to go and their catering is excellent. My niece had them cater a small family wedding and I was so pleasantly surprised that the catered food was so amazing. I tried Chat Papri, Chili Chicken, Chili Praneer, Indian noodle fritters, Naan Bread, Jeera Rice, Aloo Gobhi, Channa Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Korma. It was a feast. The chat Papri was so good, both crispy and crunchy with a great flavor. I especially loved the Chili Chicken and Chili Praneer. The Chili Chicken was sweet and spicy and beautifully cooked. So packed full of flavor and just the right heat. The Chili Praneer was really good with the Praneer cheese creamy in contrast to the chili sauce which wasn't too spicy but had a lot of flavor. The Indian noodle fritters were different but the outside had good crispness and the inside had a nice mild flavor. I love a good Naan bread and they brought a portable tandoor oven to make them fresh. So yummy! Great for stopping up the sauce from the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was also excellent. The Jeera rice was great with the Channa Masala and Chicken Korma. The Aloo Gobhi was a nice addition of cauliflower, potatoes and other vegetables and nicely seasoned. The food served at Mantra is by far the best Indian Punjabi food I had in and around OC. I have been to few Indian restaurants in Artesia but none came closer to the Indian quality and taste. The ambience is pleasant and quiet. The service was good. We ordered a mix veg starter, tandoori roti, black daal and khadhai veg. We received the order after 20-25min and was delighted by the look and it tasted as good as it appeared. The salad and popped were offered complimentary and the green chutni was yum. The roti was well cooked and soft, khadhai veg and black daal was very tasty. We were too full and after leaving we released we didn get starter at all though we were neither billed for it and both parties completely forgot. Very difficult to communicate with the person taking my order! I wanted a combination plate with lamb chicken and rice. Then I asked him if it comes with naan (bread) he told me it comes with one piece cut in half, which made me believe that it would not be enough as I really like naan. So after he added it up it came to $30. Well I guess they don't have a combination like I asked and he definitely didn't say they didn't have one, because he charged me for two separate orders and two orders of naan. Which came out to $29. And some change .So I told him to take the lamb off and it still came to $15. All I got was about six chunks of chicken, rice and a cheesy little serving of iceberg lettuce . I Told him it was my first time here and you would think that they would try to treat you right so you'd come back. on the contrary he tried to overcharge me for everything. Food was so so definitely not a good value whatsoever. I guess I'm just used to Punjabi where you get lamb chicken rice very fresh and crispy,whole piece of naan (which is double this place served) and rice pudding for $12.. anyways I'll NEVER go back ever. I've come here a few times and the food is always wonderful. Good taste, nice atmosphere overall. The only thing I didn't appreciate was how one of the bussers/servers actually judged mefor having left the plate slightly full of food when I was done with it. Luckily I understood the "seven" part as he showed the plate to the lady that works there (no, he didn't even wait to be distant enough from me to complain to her about it, so we actually heard him behind our table), and my friend translated what he said (she's Indian, and basically translated that 7 servings of food were being wasted). So the positive is that their naan is delicious and their chicken tikka masala to die for. The establishment is a small restaurant with minimal decor, but pleasant. My husband had the chicken biryani which he liked that day and loved the next day as he had leftovers. Sambusak was also delish. Fast forward to last week. I ordered the food at 7:10 and was told it would be 20 minutes. Sent my son to pick it up and at 7:45 food was not ready. He got the order at 8 and brought it home (4 mile drive). As soon as he got here we sat down to eat but noticed the food was barely tepid. We had to reheat it. The naan was burned and seemed microwaved. The two times I have dined here were vastly different experiences, the first being one of the greatest culinary experiences I've ever had and the second falling way short of the expectations they instilled within me formerly. For the purpose of keeping this short and sweet: The first time I dined here everything was perfect. The second experience left me upset as my naan was left unseasoned, my tikka masala was overcooked (though still delicious), and my rice was left mostly unseasoned and overcooked as well. Back to Mantra, the buffet on Saturday has THREE vegetarian curries, which is hard to come by! Most places only have 1 (excluding daal/lentils) The daal is amazing, by the way, wow. Never had daal of such high quality because I feel like most places treat the dish as an afterthought. I think it's a great way to start your meal. Anyway, the three vegetarian dishes are Paneer Tikka Masala, Malai Kofta (delicious!), and Saag Paneer... All of which are great! They also have your standard fixings like Chicken TM.
