While we never liked stale groceries, exhorbitant pricing, or below-average service at Manpasand, today we got even worse experience with Manpasand's event production. We attended a drama that was sponsored by the store (see attached photo) and the experience was horrible. The event was badly managed by Hamir (the owner) and everything about it was 3rd class under his management: - Bad venue/neighborhood - No parking facility - No auditorium - Worst seating arrangement in a stinking hall; No chairs for seat numbers and tickets sold to us. - No respect for audience's time - Show started 1 hour and 20 minutes late. - Horrible audio - dialogs were simply not audible. - Poles in hall were blocking audience's view of the stage - Nobody understood Sanjay Goradia's dialog because the actor had bad throat issues. - Tickets were overly priced and sold at 50% discount at the venue Show was not worth going to even if tickets were free. Our group of 15 people left before intermission as it was a waste of time. And we all reached the conclusion that we will avoid all events brought by Manpasand. read more

I always love a place that reminds me of back home and this place does that lol. If you know, you know. I have lived in cities where a store like this simply does not exist and one has to travel miles miles to get a hold of certain foods or spices so I appreciate having such easy access to this place. This place has such an abundance of items from meats (halal), house decor, variety of endless spices, and the list just never ends. If you have a certain south asian or middle eastern dish you want to cook you will most definitely find what you need for your recipe here. This place has a mini restaurant within this store which offers south asian vegetarian food, my family typically gets masala dosa, idli or samosa chaat. The food from this restaurant tastes so authentic and to my surprise far better than some actual restaurants I've tried in the area. So give it a shot if you're ever shopping here for groceries. I do think this store could do a better job keeping organized and tidy. Their staff is very nice and helpful. Ive always found my mini interactions with them quite pleasant! read more

I purchased a few items in this market in December of last year, brown basmati rice and a ten-pound box of dates. The price on the shelf for the dates was $52 the cashier rang me up at $54. I told the cashier that the price on the shelf and the price she charged me were not the same. She said, "I'll check it," and proceeded to charge me the $54. When I got home with the dates, I opened the box and noticed about 1/3 of the dates were moldy or discolored and one side of the cardboard box was covered with mold. All things considering, I have decided not to return to this store. read more

This is an expansive Indian grocery store which also carries middle eastern grocery. They carry pretty much all indian grocery items / food. I like that they have a wide variety but 3 star because there is plenty of room to improve. What does well - 1. Wide variety and availability of most products. They gave 3-4 other stores in the Austin area and this location is probably the biggest with the widest variety of items. 2. Well organized - Most of the items are well organized so if you visit the store couple of time, you will get to know where to find which item pretty quickly. 3. Food court - After a lengthy session of shopping , I like grabbing snacks from the food court. It's a hit most of the times, there are also some misses. Try the samosa which is the safest bet. What needs to improve - 1. Expired products - On at least 3 visits, I have encountered the store selling LONG expires products on the shelves. This doesn't improve even after being this to management's attention. Not a good business practice to put the customers health at risk. I am ALWAYS very careful while picking out any item which should have an expiry date or I just don't buy if I don't see an expiry date. 2. Safety during COVID - Management themselves was NOT wearing masks initially when COVID hit. They scam was selling one disposable mask for $2.5 when COVID started. This was when the rest were selling it boxes of 25 masks for $11. I expect Management to set the example forward by following safety measures during a global pandemic. 3. Returns - They simply haggle to no end when it comes to returns. You will notice that none of their sale items are returnable. Find it suspicious that the seller won't stand by their product. Official return policy is very tight (7 days) Overall, I would recommend for the product being sold and their variety, just keep your eye out on the above mentioned points. read more

I've purchased incense from some of the other Indian grocers in the area, and it always seems to be hit or miss as to whether the incense is stale or not. The incense at Manpasand is consistently fresh and burns well (the Dehn al Oudh is phenomenal). I also sometimes purchase fruits and veggies here and have always had a good experience. As others have recommended, it's a good idea to check the expiration dates (but shouldn't you do that wherever you go???). As long as you check the exp date, you should be good. Double check the prices being rung up at the till. Hit up Phoenicia on Lamar for your Middle Eastern products and staples. With that said, Manpasand is a decent Indian grocer I'm happy to support. read more

Car broken into while shopping here. Very unsafe people and irresponsible management. Highly irresponsible and irresponsive management. My car was broken into during a weekend and they did not have cameras anywhere near the store. The store manager is not reachable whenever you call them. The location of store is notorious for theft and store does very less to prevent such incidents. I wanted this store to meet expectations as it appears to have a huge variety of products and groceries. Unfortunately, after giving it several (4 trips) chances, I have decided to stop going to this location. The reason this store shouldn't be patronized is because they store a LARGE number of expired products! Many products do not even have clear expiry dates on them. This store is huge compared to other ethnic grocery places I have visited. I was making Tikki Marsala for dinner and wanted some easy appetizers to go with it. So I made the trek on a Saturday around noon. That was a mistake. It was packed and hard to maneuver the aisles. I need to go back when it is not so crowded. As usual I tried to go aisle by aisle, wasn't working. Geez, how many different kinds of rice is there? Do I need rice in a 50 pound bag? Headed for the frozen foods. Found a box of samosa's that was very good in price. Needed dipping sauce so off to another row. I located some Tamarind sauce and some green chutney. As I was standing in line to pay (Long Line) there was a display of Cardamom cookies. Why not try some. Those samosas were tasty and easy to prepare. The sauces were delicious. Large store, however, do not expect much personal service, items not labeled that well, and prices are not a bargain compared to other Indian or Pakistani markets. I did find some incredible rice, which was unlike I had found and any other market. I enjoyed it very much. However, I purchased a refrigerated individual beverage. The top of the beverage would not release when I got to my car. Trying to go back in the store, and exchanging this beverage for something else, was very difficult. The staff wasn't able to find the beverage in their computer, even though I had just purchased it and had the receipt. They ended up taking the beverage back, and charging me more money for a substitute beverage. That being said, it is a Houston-based chain and it would appear they have not formed good local supplier relationships yet. No store of its size and reach should have sauce choices limited to what comes in a pouch or jar... Patak brand should be the LAST choice offered. In comparison, Gandhi Bazaar is much smaller but can offer locally-sourced and/or locally-made vindaloo, tikka masala, and butter chicken sauces which, if I'm in a hurry and have no time to make my own sauce, are the next best thing. read more

This is a big Indian Grocery Store. It is in The Hub Strip Center with Muangthai and Fast Eddies. Lots of selections including fresh produce. Prices are reasonable and there's one section not yet completed. I hope they use that spot for a small kitchen. The place is clean and conveniently laid out with trinkets and produce along the back wall and frozen/refrigerated and dry goods filling the shelves in the middle of the floor. My first visit to an Indian grocery store where as an American non white female I was stared at as usual - but shopped without worry if I had to negotiate on prices. The prices are readonable. These folk "get it" that Americans like healthy homemade Indian food too. We do as we always do and absorb international cuisine. There are real shopping carts and I was not charged a fee for a bag. The store accepts debit and credit cards. The female workers wear beautiful Indian attire from several regions. The store has many small packaged items and very large packages of staple items like wheat. Indian style wheat is more finely ground than American style whole wheat. This store also has fresh vegetables and a frozen food section. The Man Pasand Supermarket is located in The HUB at Research and 45 in the same shopping center as Factory Mattress. I recommend visiting this location and hope one will be placed closer to the Pflugerville Round Rock side of the metro area. Can't wait to return to buy spices - lots and lots of spices. There is a smal indoor play area for kids that I hope they will keep. More non- food areas are being added. Yea! Austin is finally maturing to serve more than 18 year old UT single students. This one is a big store and they had most of the Indian grocery items, which are hard to find in Gandhi or KP/Taj. They give bags/boxes unlike other Indian stores selling the bags. I was literally standing outside the store exactly at 9 pm and just needed one item. I let them know that but they did not let me in. And the way they answered that call was also so very rude. I drove 15 miles to get to this location and gave this business thousands of dollars and they could not let me in for just one item. There were people inside who would take more than half an hour to come out. I really couldn't understand how letting just one person in would change anything. It's not like there was a line waiting to get in that if they accept my request everyone will follow my lead. The staff were very rude. Really disappointed and I am never coming back here ever again. I've been cooking Indian food for the past couple weeks almost exclusively and this has been my one stop shop for a slew of spices, chilis, produce, and Indian food specific ingredients in general for all the recipes I've tried. They've got fantastic prices on the packaged spices that are both cheaper and come in much larger quantities than your average grocery store, and everything I've gotten has been fresh. The store is clean, lines are short and quick, parking is ample, the location is easy to get to and service has been good as well. I have been buying grocery in this store for last 5 months. I had two occurrences when I learned about their return policy which is aweful. Even if the products are bad, customers have to pay the price. I bought 20 lb bag of wheat flour 2 weeks ago. I opened it to find bugs. When I contacted the store they said their return policy is 14 days and if I did not have receipt they can not return. Yesterday, I got some bell peppers from Manpasand without paying much attention of how they are. Today I got them out from refrigerator, they were bad. I had the receipt. So I called them to check what can they do about it. They said vegetable are customer's responsibility and they can not do anything about it. I am never going to this store again. read more
