Manny's

I read today in the SFChronicle that this is a go to place for everybody (I hope) especially for politicians? Do you welcome everybody? Any politically involved visitors come? How is security there when meetings evolve? Any expectations?

This series of questions is unclear. According to the Mission Local paper, "[Manny's] is not just a cafe, it’s a deliberately designed progressive community meeting place that supports local causes, is politically active, and has a performance…

Do you allow small dogs?

Yes

Do they have a policy on laptop use? Limitations?

Laptops are welcome until 6pm. Manny's provides two hours of awesome free wifi with a code you receive from the staff.

Or something like that. I recently attended the new Intersection for the culmination of a storytelling class where each student was showcased on stage for their 10 minutes of fame. Their programming is YBCA-lite, offering simlar artsy fare on a smaller scale and budget. They move into Marsh territory by sprinkling in a few classes and providing a venue that still gives you no reason to dress up for your big night out. I've enjoyed the events I've attended at Intersection but, like YBCA, I infrequently find anything amongst their programming that compels me to attend. Lucky for them, that doesn't seem to matter. We made an appointment to come in and Ulysses helped us out. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and helped us through the process. Update: Gary responded to this review... and then deleted his response a day later…read more After reading it, I actually understand and respect the appointment-only business model. If customers want a private showroom experience, that's completely reasonable. Plenty of luxury businesses operate that way. The problem was never the appointment policy. The problem was how a potential customer was treated. I live next door and have been curious about this store for a long time. I finally saw you at the business and thought I'd ask about purchasing a piano. Instead of a simple, "We're appointment-only, but here's my card--I'd be happy to schedule you," I was dismissed while you waited for your DoorDash order. As someone who works in marketing and customer experience, this felt like a textbook example of turning a warm lead into a lost customer. Your original response then spent paragraphs explaining why I shouldn't have expected service, but not one sentence expressing regret that a genuinely interested buyer walked away with a bad experience. That said, I'm adjusting this to a 2-star rating because I did see some effort to acknowledge my post, even if it ultimately fell short. Businesses don't earn loyal customers by proving they're technically correct. They earn them by making people feel welcome. A 30-second conversation could have turned me into a customer. Instead, it turned me into someone who will be buying a piano elsewhere. If you already have an appointment, I'm sure the experience may be perfectly fine. But if you're hoping to stop in, ask a question, or get a feel for the place before committing, don't expect much hospitality. That's ultimately why I'm leaving this review--not because the business is appointment-only, but because customer service begins long before the appointment ever does.

Atrocious experience. 1-star. Manny - and the culture that he engenders at his establishment - is not just one that is bad at customer service - it goes beyond that: The way in which this place is run simply boggles the mind. Today, I showed up to do write a book report. For this I need a laptop, and a book. I ordered something. I sat down. Not too long afterwards, Manny approached me to tell me that there was a "policy of not allowing laptops after 6". Now this is his shop, and he can do whatever he likes, but why have such an asinine policy that makes no sense? He went on to tell the 8 or so other people quietly working, reading, watching, talking on their laptops that they had 15 minutes to shut down their laptops. Sure enough, everyone including myself did so, and when I looked back, the place had just become barren. Now it wasn't like he was saying "this space is reserved for people eating dinner", which is what a restaurant would say. He wasn't even saying don't read! He was saying you could not read _on a laptop_. This strikes me as extremely ideologically motivated. It's one thing to tell restaurant goers that the establishment is just for food. It's another to tell coffee-shop goers minding their own business that they cant read from their laptop. What about reading from an iPad? Kindle? Paper? Post-it? Those types of ideologically motivated rules make it clear that Manny puts idiotically motivated ideological premises ahead of customer service 101. Manny's, you have lost a customer - as well as the couple next to me who complained of the very same thing. read more

Update #2: none of the trolls who are messaging and responding to me even live in the Bay Area ( so far NY, PA, etc..) which confirms that this place's customer base is really toxic and it's based on spreading a propaganda we've been hearing for decades. I will NOT remove my feedback. Update: Changing the review to 1 star because since I posted my original review below thinking based on the menu that it's owned by Arabic owner, I have been trolled by the worst kind of Zionist thugs. I understand there is a conflict but that doesn't mean people should get defensive when they hear the word Palestine or Israel. There are Israeli things and there are Palestinian things and we call things the way they are, there were no bad intentions but clearly this place's customers are hard core Zionist idiots who don't want peace or even hear the name or food or anything related to the other part. I don't want me or my community to be associated with a place that has such toxic crowd. It's clear they have a problem. Shakshokeh can be Moroccan, Egyptian or Palestinian but never Israeli, the dish is older than Israel anyway so if this disturbed all those thugs, it's a sign of really ugly intentions. "I like that they have Palestinian Shakshouka. The place is alright, nothing special, WiFi sucks but I'd like to visit it again and checkout the atmosphere." read more

this cafe represents the death of la mission and triumph of white gentrification (ie. ethnic removal) of the historic community of the area. most insidious is manny's masquerades as a progressive hotspot where it hosts movers and shakers within the local progressive establishment. locals do not feel welcome. it is mostly for white virtue-signaling elites, paticularly from the castro community and transplanted in the heart of the poor-working-class latinx community. it pretends to be grassroots when it is nothing but astroturf. you are not fooling la raza (the people) yekutiel. you're cafe doesn't belong here. if you want to be a true progressive leave so rents will go back down and latinx people can afford to live in their historic neighborhood. by the way, awful cofee/espresso. and the most rude, snobbish, insolent, simpering customer service in san francisco. hire people who want to work. when i go to manny's i go for beverages or food, i'm not trying to audition for the aproval of an exclusive clique of white snobs. i don't prove myself to you. just get my coffee and mind your own business. read more

What could be better than a place that serves coffee, wine, and beer? A place that serves coffee, wine, beer and manages to have a spacious interior, friendly service, and great coffee shop music. As one of the few coffee shops open past 9 PM, Manny's was my destination for doing some quick work before meeting up with a friend. I ordered my drip coffee, sat down in one of the seats, and found myself immersed in the decor, the gentle ambiance, and quirkiness of the place, from the hanging lights to the copper plating at the counter. The coffee was immaculately roasted without any notes of a burnt taste. In terms of decor, even the bathroom was a sight to behold. I enjoyed my time so much that I wasn't even bothered when one of the workers came up to me to politely tell me that laptops weren't allowed after 6 PM--in the interest of encouraging discussion amongst patrons. Sadly, my friend bailed, but I went to their bookshelf of woke books, pulled out Becoming by Michelle Obama, and enjoyed the rest of my coffee. I'll certainly be back, before or after 6 PM. read more

I thought my review went live but it didn't so, I am writing again. I have lived in San Francisco for over 30 years. This city was once a warm, welcoming place. It is smaller than what newcomers think it is--stick around and you will know all your neighbors and you will know who really doesn't live here or who is new to the city. Manny's has become a divisive civic center. Its followers do not act like real San Franciscans. They tend to be stuck in weird beliefs that they learn here and they think it is what the city is about. Manny is not even from the city. The city has gotten mean and Manny's needs to stop the nastiness. If you care about Civic Engagement, attend events at the Commonwealth Club, which has a long storied San Francisco history. Manny's is an interloper here, in San Francisco. Just look at the mess on Valencia St that has created anger from city residents. The anger is awful and it is making the city unliveable. It is not the San Francisco way. read more

I like the pool table in the back, good for groups. Bathroom is fairly clean.

No tienen estacionamiento.

TV's on both ends, lots of window seats and a fireplace in the corner. Though we had a sunny day with mild temperatures this would be the perfect San Francisco spot on a cloudy, rainy football Sunday. There were several people working on their laptops and it's clearly a fave neighborhood spot as several customers while we were there were greeted by name. The staff is warm and friendly. A new person was being trained and she did a great job. They have a large menu on the cutest menu boards and it was tough to decide what to order. My son had a burger with super delicious fries. He liked the burger but the bun kind of fell apart and for a teenage boy that killed the rating a bit. He didn't love the fries but my husband and I (and we don't usually agree on fries) LOVED them. My husband had a burrito bowl that he said he'd give an 8.5 out of 10. The flavor was delicious (it looked delicious!) but he said that the steak was a little chewy. I am not a meat eater do next time I'm here I want to try it because it looked so yummy. I saved my review for last because I would give my "Golden State" salad an 11/10 if I could. It is officially my favorite salad in San Francisco. I did cut the lettuce into smaller pieces when I got it because I love a chopped salad and honestly, that is the only thing that could have made it more perfect. The taste was absolutely DELICIOUS. I substituted the orange vinaigrette dressing for regular and it was seriously so delish. We didn't try any of the smoothies or crepes but we'll be back to give those a try. They sounded yummy. Overall, great, neighborhood-y vibe, super cute, great food and a large menu. Very nice people, good location and people watching and lots of nice seating. Highly recommended and I look forward to returning!

I have a gluten allergy and I specifically requested and double checked that I'm ordering the gluten free crepe. We got our food to go and didn't realize until after we'd left the place...so once I opened it I had to go back and show them and they replaced it but very unsafe for an allergy and also just a lot of inconvenience... Aside from that, my boyfriend loves this place! The food is pretty good, it's chill vibes, people working in their computers and not too busy the few times we've visited. And they serve breakfast all day! The service has been friendly as well. They have a chagaccino that's really good too.

They also have a yummy menu that includes specialties like the raspberry danish latte that has sweet raspberry puree and vanilla cream cheese foam. Personally I wish the coffee was a little stronger but it's a nice treat to sip on while you work. Service was very friendly!
