This is your specialty hidden "hole in the wall" place for Peruvian empanadas!! The locals know of this spot and keep it a secret! I was inducted into this secret and I want to share... got an empanada craving? Come here!! There was a looong line for these delicious freshly baked well- filled empanadas... and they also have Peruvian tamales and I saw some nicely robust pan-con-chicharrón sandwiches... what can I say: we will go back to try them! As for this time, we tried and loved the meat empanadas: the filling was nice and full, no skimpy bits of meat: nice serving for $3.50. We tried the chicken tamal and it was okay, but dry but overall a nice flavor, and finally we tried the alfajores that were warmed up at the car and were they were very nice as well. There is a line. There are only 3 tables and 5 barstools on the side... most people order to go, but if you want to eat inside, you have to negotiate with the people sitting at the tables. Do not hesitate to "reserve" your spot. I waited until we were at the top of the line, and someone 6 people behind us with no order had already negotiated and sat at a table... regardless of the fact that she didn't get her food until after we had already finished eating: the table "system" sucked, but we got another one of the tables and most customers take their orders to go, so it was not that bad. This place is an absolute hidden gem. NY FAR the best empanadas I've had. They are baked and not fried. The dough is just slightly sweet and so delicious. My favorite is the buen gusto which is ground beef but also had olives and egg and raisins in it. It sounds weird but SO good. I always take everything to go since they only have 2-3 small tables. They have two items here basically -- empanadas and tamales. You can see what is currently available in the hot case. You order and pay at the counter. We chose to eat in. We each got two empanadas. I tried their Peruvian one, but without the sugar added topping plus a ham and cheese one. I didn't care for the ham and cheese. The Peruvian one had ground beef and chopped eggs inside. It was decent. My husband got two of their beef ones. One spicy and one regular. I had part of the regular beef one -- and that was my favorite. The fillings were just okay. The "dough" part of the empanadas were slightly sweet and delicious. There's a large (pot holed) parking lot out front. Service was okay -- there was only one gal working the counter. Great little spot for fresh empanadas. There are only a few small tables inside as it seems like most people do takeout. The Caprese Empanada was my favorite -- tasted like pizza. The Spicy Chicken Empanada was good too -- the outside of the empanada has a slightly sweet flavor. Many may not know but Manny's sells a variety of empanada options as well as a few other treats and drinks on his menu. If you've never had a warm Spanish pastry, I highly recommend you stop by and try something you've been missing! They have a great team with good customer service, you will not be disappointed! I can not believe that you can said I will charge you .50 cents since that is a 1/4 of lime they give you for 4 empanadas . Were you going to a restaurant and they said that is the measurement. Went on a Saturday and was told they weren't making sandwiches which was disappointing as they looked really good. Had the spinach empanada which had a lot of spinach but not much flavor. Also had the chicken which was better and had more flavor but the star for me was the spicy ground beef. It wasn't really spicy but rather "seasoned". The crust they're made in is sweet and baked. Not my favorite but it is well prepared. Coffee was good and would recommend as the cortadito and colada were perfect. Overall I wish the food had a little more flavor, even the hot sauce was a little on the bland side. Doubtful I'd comeback but not a bad spot if you like a sweeter crust empanada. read more

I ordered a a box of 4 Peruvian and 2 picantes ($18). Just to give you guys a visual, these aren't your typical frozen and thawed empandas. Instead, these empandas have a thin light crusty exterior and are stuffed inside with a very flavorful spices and tender browned beef. Dine in is possible, however, it is a small restaurant so if there is no crowd I am certain if you are a solo person you can eat here like I am. I'd suggest take out if you are ordering for a group. Coffee was delicious, the empanadas are the real star. This was my first time trying Peruvian empanadas and I loved them! They are fresh and use quality ingredients. The chicken was succulent and the beef was flavorful! At the moment, they are only focusing on their empanadas and pastries such as the alfajores (which I will try next time). The older woman is sweet and attentive, but I don't see her work the counter as much as the other girl. It's really disappointing being excited to go to a restaurant because of their phenomenal food just for your experience to be ruined by impolite staff. I had lunch here for the first time and it was pretty good! Had a Havana sandwich and it was hot and fresh and pretty big, could only eat half. The restaurant is kind of no frills but they had some Cuban pastries that looked really good and Cuban coffees of various types. They had a soda fountain but I was sold a can of soda because the soda fountain only had ice. It was dispensing water from all of the soda taps. (I checked). It was about $15.00 for a sandwich, can of soda and baked sweet potato fries. I'm pretty sure they were not fried and they were thin and good. I will come back for coffee and pastry. This has been here a while but I've never noticed it before. I'm glad that I finally did. There is plenty of seating and they sell empanadas so I took some of those to go. Decided to try breakfast here on a Sunday morning. The place was packed, but not with customers, with staff. I counted. There were ten women in uniform, four behind the counter and six just standing in a group next to the counter, doing nothing. Way overstaffed. This place is so tiny, there is no reason to have more than three wait staff on the floor, so the six women taking up real estate in the middle of the restaurant was a tad bit strange and uncomfortable. Maybe the owners enjoy paying unnecessary overhead, who knows. Both, my husband and I ordered a cafe con leche. It was 90% leche. I didn't taste any coffee, my husband said he tasted it "a little bit." I'm not a fan of their chicken empanada. I prefer shredded chicken and theirs was chunks of chicken. The flavor of the chicken wasn't the best either, in my opinion. Now, for the good part. Our waitress was so sweet and very attentive. All smiles, super friendly. Loved her. We both had the same meals, the chicharron sandwich with a tamale. Superb. The flavors were amazing. The pickled onions were to die for and were the perfect compliment to the chicharron sandwich and the tamale. The sandwich had cooked sweet potato on it which was a pleasant surprise and it added a very unique and tasty aspect to the sandwich. It was a massive plate of food. We could have split one meal, and we did, and ended up packing up the other plate of food. I would like to try other items and some of their other coffee drinks before passing too much judgement on this place as a whole. read more

Since we found this place (by accident) it has been great every visit. The women there are very friendly and the empanadas are amazing, we've tried at least 5 different ones! If you go and they have ran out of a favorite, you can call ahead to make sure they have what you like and it'll be ready when you pick it up. So I went here on my lunch break and I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with some honey mustard on the side. The sandwich was huge! I was only able to eat half of it-my friend picked at the other half. It was served on a crusty hero bread and the chicken had a lot of flavor to it. They also put tons of melted provolone on it. I was also impressed with the yummy pickled onions they gave me for the sandwich. The service was very good and the place was open and comfortable. I have come here with my family several times and the food is good, but the service has always been really slow and inefficient. After so many years in business, they are still understaffed. Besides that, it's almost unbearable to be inside. It seems that there is no A/C at all. It is always warm inside. But it seems now that without a notice, they have stopped accepting orders by phone. We called several times, and noone ever answered. We kept calling and got tired of waiting and decided to stop by. When we got there was a huge line, people weren't sure were the line to dine in or pick up was. Adding the disorder from the people and no A/C, it was just horrible to be in there!!! I can't understand how people can just sit there and eat. About the food, we ordered a few chicken sandwiches and tomato/egg/avocado sandwiches. They tasted dry / not fresh. Since we ordered to go, we can't get a refund for them. I'm not sure if the food is worth the trouble to go this restaurant. They should learn to manage their business better. read more
