We have been going here for years and it used to be one of the best places for a burger and a brew. The last couple if visits the burgers have been overcooked and tasteless. Manning's is big, and was a great location to accommodate a post-concert celebration for our singing group. We had attentive servers pull together a bunch of tables to seat about 20 people, and as more came in, they were able to get more space for us. There's a decent amount of parking in the back, and the service was pretty efficient. ESPN, ESPN2, and whatever else on the TV screens (highlights for the week? All about Linsanity...) It was Friday 2-for-1's, which is always a good deal anywhere ($4.95 for two Honey Weiss). Their food menu is extensive and serves the typical restaurant bar food: fried appetizers, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, ice cream (?) I got the walleye sandwich with a side of seasoned fries. The fries were amazing; piping hot and salty as all hell. It was my kidney's worst nightmare, and my beer's best companion. The walleye, on the other end of the spectrum, was spectacularly bland. I guess I could have put the fries in the sandwich and eaten it that way. I mean, it was flaky and tasted good (and was as large as my head), but I did have to put salt on it. If they had put the same seasoning they put on the fries, it would have been bomb.com. The beef nachos that my friend got were quite delicious as well, but nothing beats those fries. read more

It's quiet in Manning's on a Saturday morning for the breakfast bunch. Come here later in the afternoon and it will be quite a different story. Service has never been an issue and I was again promptly waited on as I sat in the historic wooden booths. 2015 will be the 80th anniversary of this Como Neighborhood establishment where not just the locals meet. The brief breakfast menu has what most places have as standard fare breakfasts. I enjoyed the Corn Beef Hash with Hash Browns, two eggs, toast and coffee. The portions were more than I expected because of what I've seen at other places the last few years. The coffee isn't gourmet but is better than standard restaurant coffee of older days as well. The meal was cooked to perfection and arrived steaming hot. The potatoes were just right with just a little crunch but still soft enough to not split a tongue. There are some happy hour and late hour specials listed on the table cards and a nice selection of beers many on tap. As mentioned this can be a very noisy place later in the day so I appreciate the quieter times for breakfast even though there were people enjoying some alcohol refreshments before 10:00 a.m. read more

After living in rock-throwing distance of Mannings for almost a year, yesterday was the first evening I visited their bar... without any idea of what to expect, I might add. Luckily for me, the moment I walked in I spotted a pretty poster that screamed "2-4-1's and Pizza Specials, 10PM"-- which seemed like the perfect deal for my bud and I. The experience was pretty good overall. In the hour or so we spent there, the drinks were strong, the pizza was good and the waitresses were friendly. Plus, the late night noms were delicious-- their quick pizzas tasted homemade and were just the perfect amount for the two of us (.. for just 5 bucks too!). It ended up being a pretty chill stop for a drink and some tasty bar food on a week night. I definitely think I'll stop by again. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30, I was immediately greeted and shown a table. The ambient is very dim lighting and casual, very much a hole in the wall, family restaurant. We tried the cheese curds which were a small portion (which was actually great because we could finish them!) and I got a turkey burger and my friend got a tuna melt. The burger was on some good bread and came with plenty of tomato and lettuce but the turkey burger was very clearly some sort of frozen pre-made patty that had been thawed and grilled. So far, the best burgers in town! This place is tucked away on Como and 22nd St. and you'd think it's just another bar with bar food. Yes, it is a bar, and has bar food that would fix any cravings you may have. But it has some of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Definitely the best I've had so far in the Twin Cities. Make sure you get the seasoned fries with your burger. If you're looking for a place to hang out with some friends and grab a delicious bite with drinks, this is the place to go. I have Gopher football season tickets with two other guys who I went to college with and who marched in the Minnesota Marching Band. (Rah!) Mannings was a standby favorite when we were in college. We still go there before night games. What can I say? It's good. I like their burgers. Like their walleye sandwich. The have a good selection of tap beers. They have TV monitors that help you keep up on the college games before you move to the Gopher stadium. Like the rating says, it's A-OK. read more

Still, one of my favorite hamburgers! They do it right here. Hand pattied burgers cooked to perfection. Much better than most hamburgers I've had at the upscale and "famed" places. I would come back again and again. Great service. I do not like any French fries, so I can't review their fries. I can review their onion rings as 5 stars. Excellent crispy, battered onion rings that are addicting. So great. Popcorn in the bar is an added bonus. read more

Absolutely a mess of service! Server could absolutely care less for the business . Big groups = too much work so server sits around and then maybe she'll get to the table once we ask? Give me a break ! It's a pandemic take our money! Really enjoy the environment of the beer but when owner isn't there or looking it's a bony cares fest. read more

Manning's never disappoints, stopped in for beer and burgers Sunday night. Service was A+, Alaskan Amber was cold and delish. I had the cheeseburger with regular fries - so good. We had cheese curds for appetizer, which were great. We also like their onion rings. Dining mates rated their food as A+ as well. Bonus free ice cream on Sunday! Very disappointed. Used to have much better food; not sure what changed. Should also a smaller burger on the menu.....not 3veryone wants or needs a 1/2 pound burger. Showed up with my mom, niece and brother for a Saturday night dinner. A table of about 5 behind us, who came after us, had their food and finished before we ever got ours. 1 hour it took for my three dinner companions to get their meals- it took me asking another server where my food was for them to get it to me. Apparently the wings were 'Frozen' and that's what it took one hour and fifteen minutes to get them. Lame excuse. Will find another dive bar to eat at. read more

I came in from out of town and had a great time drinking here with my friends. After 10pm they have a great $1 hamm's special as well as $2.50 rail drinks. It's a cool dive bar that is perfect for socializing and they have free popcorn, which is nice. 10/10 would recommend for hanging out with friends. read more

I've been eating at this place since I was little. They have the best burgers in town. Also they have the best onion rings I've ever had. I have no idea what is in that special secret batter but it is amazing. The O-rings are so tasty that we drive there from Blaine to get them! I should also note that they have a fantastic breakfast menu too. We absolutely love this place! My kids love this place as much as I did too. I've been coming here for the past few years now. They have good food that is reasonably priced and the service is always great from the same servers you see every time you stop in. Breakfast is cheap and filling. It's not fancy but you're in the wrong place if you want that. The burgers are great. Don't forget that they are 2-for-1 on Wednesdays starting at 3pm. The drinks are also 2-for-1 at 10pm (I believe) for a late night happy hour. Don't be afraid to go behind the bar and grab your own popcorn. read more

I have been a customer for 35 years. Very comfortable place, great staff, remarkably good food and the best popcorn around. The burgers are the best I have had. In particular the Jumbo is incredible. Hand formed patty, fresh ground perfection. It is huge and you will not or at least should not finish it... But there is something about the way that huge burger cooks that makes it better than all the rest. The crinkle cut fries are absolutely the best. Amoung the other bests I have had at Mannings are the pork tenderloin and the ruben. I live 40 minutes away and still make the trip at least monthly. read more

Manning's, what the hell happened to you?? There are two kinds of crowds at Manning's. There's the breakfast/lunch crowd with a mean age of 60, and the late night college crowd that takes full advantage of their cheap (2 for 1's after 11) and seriously strong drinks. I've experienced both on multiple occasions but I think me and Manning's need to call it quits. The bar aspect is hard to mess up. Did I mention the drinks are strong? Our waitresses were always nice enough and there's freeeeee popcorn. Last time I was there for a drinking sesh, I reached into our bowl of popcorn and got a piece that tasted like straight. up. bleach. And it was soggy. Now, I've never ingested bleach before but the whole taste-smell connection doesn't lie. I'm assuming that they had put the popcorn bowls in some sanitization liquid and it wasn't rinsed/wiped down properly...but seriously, that sucked. Now the food. I've been here a number of times for breakfast/brunch and it used to be good. Like, surprisingly good. And this was as recently as this summer. The burgers are pretty solid so I'll give them that, but the breakfast is suddenly lacking. They used to have these amaaazing american potatoes that were seasoned and crisped perfectly; however last time we went, I noticed that they seemed sloppily thrown together and the potatoes weren't all thoroughly cooked. The boy (who'd frequented the Manning's breakfast much more than myself) was seriously disappointed in his omelet (which was also a first). We assumed that maybe it was a different cook than usual and tossed it up to an "off" day for the place. Today we gave them another chance and left with the same complaints...and the potatoes tasted even worse this time. Oh. And the butter with my pancakes was kind of weird...almost like it had been sitting out without being covered. Such a shame. The waitresses here, especially the older woman that we had today, have been really sweet. read more

Wow, if it wasn't for the HDTV's I would have thought I walked into a corner bar in a small town in the 1970's. As an overeater I don't say this too often, but I actually bit off more than I can chew at Manning's. The portions here are enormous and they give you a lot for your money. Waitstaff is OVERLY FRIENDLY here, which will get me back most definitely. I ordered chicken tenders which were extremely meaty and came with a salad, fries and toast loaded with butter. The explosion of taste in my mouth was almost too much. To top it off they even gave me a complimentary cup of ice cream. If you want a lot for your money, this is the place! read more

Manning's clearly has a good deal of history: you just get that sensation from walking in to your seat. I didn't eat here yet, I only got a couple of beers. Happy hour runs til 7 so that's already a plus. The crowd is mixed and aside from the tables (there's another room in the back just fyi) you have a small section of the bar w/ seats while on the other side is an older burley dude with a waxed mustache to serve the stand-up side of the bar. I haven't seen another setup like this, let alone one where over half the the bar is for land standers only. I'm guessing Stand Up Frank's would have been it, but I moved here after they closed. The bathroom was more pleasant (in cleanliness and smell) than I expected. Everything is wood here: walls, bar,chairs: it's been around and it's comfy. Not a chance you'll find anything close in Uptown, unless you have a time machine. read more

Disappointed to say the least. I grew up coming here. They are known for their onion rings. The batter is unique and delicious... usually. This time I felt they were undercooked... kinda gummy, while my walleye sandwich was overdone and the waitress was straight out of the stone age. She was short and blunt about everything... no class at all. I wouldn't expect Anne Hathaway but this lady was disturbing. I've had many a good meal here in the past, but this one was not a good one. I've been going here since I was about 5...back in the 70s! The food is tasty. Really tasty. But the slow service, crusty weird bartender (very dark hair, not sure of his name) and specials which apparently draw the dregs of society make it not worth it. One woman (she had to have done time) sat and glared at us while she chewed, another group, in for some cheap eats, allowed their child to blast a show on a smartphone (electronic babysitter) directly in my ear and the staff said nothing. It's incredibly loud in here as well. Service is inconsistent and the dive bar thing isn't ironic, it truly is a dive. We won't be back. read more

I first time using Yelp and I find this gem. I enjoyed the people, atmosphere and the food. You could tell who the regulars were because they were the ones that walked behind the bar to help themselves to some popcorn. A very small town, hole in the wall feel!
