We tried Mana Uptown last night for my husbands birthday, to say we loved it is an understatement. So glad Dayton finally has a fine dining restaurant! Our meal: No drinks except sparking water/still water Appetizers- Wings Victoria: 10/10 Prawns flambéed: 8/10 Caesar salad: 9/10 Bread service: 8/10 Entrees: Filet Peole: 10/10 loved the flavor combinations Duck medallions: me 7/10, my husband 4/10. He didn't like alcohol flavor of the dish, also he said he was expecting something different and that set him up to not like it. Classy yet trendy with a gravitatingly moody bar. You can totally dress up here or stay casual. Nice coat check service. Easy parking at the rear. Upstairs are various rooms and another small bar that can accommodate large groups or private parties. Lots of options. Janis provided excellent table service that beat our expectations! She was charming, friendly, knowledgeable about all the dishes, recommended the wine (hit it out of the park!), and perfectly timed her returns to our table to check on us. We started with the bread service and a Caesar salad that had a mouthwatering kick. My husband and I shared the duck and beef Bourguignon. Would go back just for the duck and Caesar salad. The beef stew was tender and tasty but flavors were maybe too subtle for me. Sadly we wanted to try the desserts but just had no more room, which says something for a French-leaning meal. I am a 2 time James Beard award winner so I do have some expertise in the food industry. OK let's get the easy stuff out-of-the-way first. Ambience is absolutely stunning. Classy without being pretentious. 3 levels, each with a different vibe. The top level I would not recommend for those that have ambulatory concerns. Lots of stairs. The lowest level (bar area). is my favorite, but it's not very big. This time we sat in the mid tier, big booths and comfortable seating at table. White tablecloths and silverware. Extremely wine, friendly restaurant and they have proper stemware. Excellent selection. Cocktails are not to be missed. It was my wife's birthday, so we started off with a chilled bottle of cava. Nice way to start the evening. We also ordered some scallops which were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. My wife felt the skin on the chicken entrée was slightly salty, but the meat was delicious moist and flavorful. I had the seafood entrée. I ordered it because I was curious about it. On the menu, it describes it as spicy. The seafood components are not spicy however, there's certainly a kick to the pasta. It doesn't get anywhere close to being hot or uncomfortable. I would call it mild spicy. I liked the pasta, but there was way too much of it for me. The portion was enormous. And be honest, I think I would've preferred a bit more seafood. Ratio of seafood to pasta was not optimum for me I'd recommend placing an order of the bread it's only a few dollars and it's worth the investment. Service was flawless. Attentive, without being intrusive, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Cheesecake is terrific. I can see myself dropping in the lunch and getting a slice with some coffee.. Is the place pricey? It depends on how you think about that word. Some dishes are priced 20% higher than I've seen at similar establishments. For example the halibut was one of the most expensive items on the menu at roughly $64. However, when you consider it's wild caught, and the preparation is done with care,creativity and talent it's fairly priced. Btw, Portion was generous. Most likely a dinner for two is going to put you into the low 3 digits (including wine). IMO if you just love to eat you will find the prices fair/reasonable. We had a wonderful dining experience at Manna Uptown. The decor is so beautiful and inviting. Our server was very attentive. We had wonderful cocktails. Our salads were very tasty. Our main entree was very good. I had the Double bone pork chop and very tender. My husband had the Seafood Puttanesca. He enjoyed it, however, it was a little saltier than he would've liked. TLDR; tried it, glad I tried it but won't be back Location The location is convenient but parking can be a drag. The good news is that the city is working on that by building more parking. Exterior Looks Beautiful building, patio looks lovely Interior Looks It is beautiful and I understand there is a design preference and strategy to the multiple levels. The decor is very nice and it is very well decorated. It's a little over the top for me. It reminds me of a modern Golden Lamb in Lebanon. I kept thinking I was in a hotel like the Ritz or Four Seasons. Interior Ambiance We dined on the second floor. Maybe it was because we were dead in the middle of the room but good luck having a conversation. It was impossible to hear anything. Wait staff kept bumping into my wife so we had to physically move the table and chairs ourselves so they wouldn't run into her in their hustle and bustle. It was such a turn off to not be able to have a decent conversation because the noise was so overwhelming. And people weren't being loud, it's just that the place of tables and acoustics is poor on that level. Service Not great! In fact, pretty bad! I left less than 15% because our waitress just wasn't good at her job. We ordered the bottle still water and while we drinking she started pouring tap water into it because we opted not to purchase more bottled still. Really? My wife ordered a Malbec and it took the waitress an hour to bring it. And then when she did it was a weak pour. She left plates on our table. Never offered bread service and when we asked about it flatly told us it costs $3. Great. Do we look poor or something? I don't know. Bring the bread! They served our main dishes and left us with no forks. Btw you'll be served by randoms and not your waitress, so be on the look out. The waitress never came by to ask how things were going. That's fine and not expected at up scale eateries but considering the rest of the service was so awful at least some personal service would have helped. Pacing of the courses was also too slow. We were there for two hours for drinks, apps, salad and mains. Drinks Meh. Overpriced and tasteless. I got the Eros and it was vodka with flavorless fruit punch in my opinion. My wife got something with dehydrated lemon in it. They did some foam art. Then the bartender spilled it all over the table and didn't offer to clean it up or anything. So yeah, that's that. The Malbec was nice but it took almost an hour to get it served and the pour was minuscule. Apps Tasty! My wife got the raviolino and it was good and the sauce was great. See the bread reference above. You want to be able to sopp up that tasty sauce! I got the ceviche, which was also tasty and fresh. Salad We both ordered the charred Caesar. This is where it really falls apart for me. It was absolute slop in a bowl. A charred Caesar should be whole hearts of romaine, charred, centered on the plate, dressed lightly and if you want to take it up; a poached egg that just runs with yolk all over it. Manna serves a steak house slop bowl of salad. Chopped up, charred, too much parmigiana and bacon. It was disgusting. I ate about a quarter of it and said that's enough. A real disappointment. Mains Wife had the truffle mushroom pasta and I had the lamb. Pasta and mushroom truffle was great. Lamb was decent loin cut but small. They would have been better off doing lollipop lamb chops. Couscous was good. Tasty but not worth the squeeze overall. I regret not getting the halibut. But, but, but, it was over $50 for an 8 oz fillet of halibut. Cost Overpriced for what we got at the service level we received. If the service, salad and portions of the meal were better, then I'd say it was on par and worth it. Absent all those, it's a pass. Fine dinning in Centerville? Yes please, but this isn't the place. Ever since Rue Dumaine closed, we've longed for a local, independent restaurant with great food. Everything about the space is fantastic and they've clearly put serious money into rehabbing the interior, the décor, and the plating. The bar is beautiful. The problem is, after four visits, I don't think we'll be back. Two of the visits were great, two were awful. One so bad, that our party of five didn't eat our entrees, asked for the bill and left. On that night, we ordered the Summer Truffle whose description is "shaved black truffles, parmesan cream and a poached egg, over mafalda". What came out was bland buttered noodles, no parmesan cream or egg, and I'm not exaggerating, a solitary slice of black truffle the size of a dime. The fifth person in our group got a beef dish that came out cold and sauceless so we all agreed just pay for what we had eaten and left. I tried again Saturday night at the bar with a friend. We arrived at 7:45pm, had one cocktail and ordered appetizers and entrees (I ordered just the Caesar for my entree). We finished the appetizers which were very good by 8:30. A FULL HOUR later, the bartenders tells us "very sorry but we ran your food to another table so we're remaking it" which was a bizarre explanation for the delay between courses. Ten minutes later he told us "they're putting the finishing touches on the pasta" my friend ordered. And it was ten minutes after that I got my salad. By that point it was about 9:45pm and I wasn't even hungry any more. The bartender said they'd take 35% off the bill. We handed him a credit card and back came the charge receipt with no itemized receipt, and by my math, it hadn't been discounted at all. Rather than dispute it any further, we just left and won't be back. It's disappointing that the location and décor is so good and fine dining is sorely needed in Centerville, but at $40/entrée and 50% terrible experiences, it'll never survive. read more

I'll keep it short and to the point. What we ate and drank: Charred Ceasar Salad - fantastic! Seared Scallops - fantastic! Ponzu Salmon - fantastic! Filet Mignon - Not so good, more on that below Cocktail - Eros - fantastic! Wine - Toscana Rosso Il Pogglione - fantastic! Environment / Ambience - fantastic! Service - fantastic! Our waitress was simply amazing Overall thoughts on the food: $29 for two OK sized scallops seems pretty pricey, but was delicious. As was all other food except the most expensive entree on the menu - Filet Mignon. My issue with the Filet Mignon: I asked for medium rare. It came out with only a very small portion of the steak cooked medium rare. Over 80% of it was actually closer to well-done. I sent it back and asked them to make it rare or blue if they can do that. It came back out and was only just slightly more rare than before. The parts that weren't medium rare were well done. Really disappointing, especially at that price ($64). Overall, I enjoyed about 4 bites of the entire steak. The rest I either didn't eat or chewed way longer than I should have needed to. Can't say we won't go back, but I doubt I'll have the steak again, if we do. read more

We have long awaited an ambiance such as Manna! From walking in the hostess staff was very welcoming, we walked through the bar area which was gorgeous upstairs to our table! Our waitress Ellie was very attentive to our table and walked us through cocktails and starters! We had the Kiwicha Chicken to start along with the well crafted Euros & A Walk Through Provence (my favorite) l, then we went to the main course and my husband had the Ponzu Salmon which was cooked to perfection and I had the Beef Bourguignon and it was very tender and fell right apart! We finished with The Lust f Venus for dessert and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as rich as I thought it would be, we paired it with decaf coffee (French press)! We tried Manna for the first time with three other couples. We had a reservation for 6:00 and sat outside on a Saturday night. As for the decor inside, it's not my style so I was happy we were able to get a table outside. The patio is lovely! I was also happy to find that they are no longer charging extra for bread as I read in some reviews. The bread and oil were delicious! The bone marrow, duck, lamb, and skirt steak were all good, but not amazing. When you pay this much for a meal, you should expect to leave full and satisfied. Service was quite slow, but given that it's still new, I don't hold that against them. Our food did not come out together either. They need to do better with that. Some comments from the group: "My lamb chop was cooked perfectly...but that's about it. The couscous was just ok. The bone marrow was yummy and so was their bread. Service was poor given the price of the meals." "My steak was yummy but not exceptional. The purée that it was on was supposed to be a saffron potato purée but it really didn't taste like anything and the texture was weird. Almost gummy." I think the consensus was that the food was good, but for the price, it should have been spectacular and it missed the mark. Overall, the portions were small and I don't understand why they don't offer sides! The salad and wine are both ridiculously overpriced as are the hors d'oeuvres. The least expensive glass of wine was $15 and these are wines you can find at Kroger. Nothing special at all. If I were rating ONLY the quality of my food, I would give it five stars because the duck was really good. This is not the first time we've paid over $200 for a meal, but it is the first time I remember feeling ripped off because we didn't get the value we paid for. I think they are pricing themselves into failure. Increase the portion sizes, add a choice of sides to be included with the meal and lower the price of the appetizers and salads and I would go back, otherwise, it's not happening. My husband and I have been twice since Manna opened; unfortunately, it hasn't improved. The first-time service was excellent (Shelley was our server), but the drinks were very slow (we had appetizers before cocktails). But then, this last time, service could have been better, and the food portions were smaller. Also, in our first meeting with one of the managers, he wasn't friendly and came off painfully arrogant. That also adds to the distaste for the restaurant. While I agree with some of the other reviews, Dayton needs this, so it is unfortunate to have to leave a 3-star review. But at the end of the day, the restaurant needs to know what it can improve, so guests will be happier and more likely to return. I hope to try Manna again in the future- and I hope when we try it for a third time, they will have all the kinks worked out. read more

Let me start by saying that the atmosphere in this restaurant is stunning. Whoever designed and decorated this establishment is very talented and enjoys details, but unfortunately that is where my positive review ends. Pros: Great ambiance, food was served on beautiful dinnerware. Cons: we arrived 20 minutes early and took a seat at the bar to try one of the impressive looking cocktails, it took the bartender over 20 minutes to make one drink but he was friendly and upbeat. Our reservation was for 7:15 and we were not seated until 7:40, however, I will say that the online reservation system was easy to navigate, and we were placed upstairs as requested. Although initially friendly, the wait staff upstairs was very unorganized and very rarely seen, we placed an order for the wing appetizer and although the presentation was nice, upon first glance, the wings themselves were downright awful. They arrived at the table in a glass cloche that was filled with liquid smoke and when I tell you, the taste of the liquid smoke was overwhelming I mean, downright overwhelming. You could not taste anything other than the overpowering liquid smoke taste, I would be interested to try the wings without the elaborate presentation because I assume they would be pretty amazing otherwise. We ordered another round of drinks and it took another 35 minutes to receive them. The disconnect in recipe from the upstairs bar compared to the downstairs bar was large. The drinks did not remotely even look the same nonetheless taste the same. Our dinner order was placed around 8 PM and we did not receive our entrées until right around 10 PM, a majority of that time was spent surveying the room where everyone seemed to be having the same unpleasant experience. Our waiter was not good at communicating the wait times, and it was very difficult to flag him down for a much-needed refill. Also, during that time two plates were sat down in front of us that belonged to an adjacent and table, I had time to realize that it was not what I ordered and let the waiter know and he promptly picked it up and sat it down at the puzzled table behind us, who had been receiving their entrées one at a time over the last hour. I ordered the Beef Bourguignon and it was very underwhelming. The portion size was small and 3/4 of the meat was very fatty. We did order the chocolate dessert and it wasn't amazing but not awful just run-of-the-mill, what I would imagine to be ordered from Cisco or GFS. All in all, we left very underwhelmed. I don't leave this review with ill intent, as I rarely leave reviews in general, but I feel that the owner of this establishment should be aware of these issues. I look forward to revisiting this establishment maybe six months down the road to see if these grievances have been rectified, because I feel that Centerville could really benefit from a fine dining restaurant and Mana could definitely fit the bill if they can get all the kinks worked out in a timely manner. read more

Attended the February wine tasting at Manna with several of mine friends. Some of them had not been there yet and were duly impressed with the bar area and the decoration of this gem in Centerville. The wine tasting was excellent, we had several great wines with explanation from the wine representative and an unbelievable bite with each tasting. The food was beautifully paired and cooked to perfection. This was such a delicious and fun event, we will be going to these events in the future. We came on a Friday night on a whim to see if we could eat here and all the tables were booked up. But we were able to set up the bar and we're happy we did. The bar chair was very comfortable. The drinks here are phenomenal. Our bartender was very attentive and friendly. We ordered things off of the appetizers and glad we did. Everything was tasty. I love the uniqueness of their theme. The bottom floor is hell, middle floor is purgatory, top floor is heaven. After we drank an ate, we took the stairs to see each floor and the decor is very nice. we ended up getting a drink on the top floor sitting at the bar and the bartender again was very attentive and friendly. We would definitely come back here. Everyone is very nice, the drinks are very special and lastly, the ambience is top-notch. Only negative is you have to go upstairs to get inside the place making it a little bit more difficult if you need a ramp. We parked in the back and there's plenty of parking spots. read more

Multiple visits and Manna has been wonderful every single time. The owners have created a unique environment with gorgeous rooms. The menu is small but diverse and unique. The cocktails are both beautiful and delicious! Have had the most perfect filet, fresh seafood, and great vegetarian selections. All were done in a way you just can't find in other restaurants. This is not a chain restaurant. You won't find cheap, common menu items. Be prepared to pay for top notch food and service. But it is worth it! read more

Everything is first class. From the greeting to the service, the drinks, and especially the food!

The food was ok and seemed to have good flavor but it was served cold so it was difficult to tell. For the price of the food I would have expected it to be much better. At the very least, to be served warm. Not sure if it is because of the different levels but very disappointing. Cocktails were good. Service was ok but our server was MIA far too often. Also, decor was lovely but the lights could have been dimmed down a bit. Will give it another chance but expect a lot more for the price of the food and the fact that it Is Salar's owner. read more

Generous portion sizes, fantastic wine list and extensive menu of creative house-crafted cocktails, all of which sounded amazing. I had the wild-caught halibut. it was white, flakey and perfectly done. The U-10 scallops appetizer in rose butter melted in my mouth. Comfortable seating and atmosphere. a perfect fusion of classic French with a stylish modern vibe. We were so satiated, we had to get the basque cheesecake to go. Highly recommended and I will return. The wait staff admitted that the place had a "rough opening" but are hoping people will give them another chance. I see mixed reviews here. Our experience was that the food was good, and our server was terrific, but wow, was it ever LOUD! I even liked the playlist, but that's not why I'm there. The decor and attention to detail is amazing. It reminds you of the old L'Auberge. The bars are amazing! The cocktail selection is really great! the bartender downstairs was super friendly but inexperienced took him forever to make 4 cocktails. We were upstairs again beautifully appointed. Love the velvet gold and blue old world chairs. the room was like an ice box. We asked for bread and butter. Apparently chef was considering European breads but still trying to make up her mind. Well, I'm a true European and a great baguette is a pleasure to have. you can actually create boutique butters. Disappointed that duck was not on the menu. Went to Manna for Father's day lunch and wasn't impressed. Very nicely decorated but not handicapped friendly. Someone in a wheelchair would have to go outside, down one ramp, which was wet, around the building up another ramp to get to a restroom. Might work in warm months but not in Centerville winters. Also, great if you want an expensive, exotic cocktail, but don't ask for iced tea, because it is not available. Food was, at best, adequate but somewhat expensive for Centerville. I guess that's why city officials want to make the area "Uptown " so people will expect to pay inflated prices. read more

Although we were very excited to try this beautiful new place, we were very disappointed by the service. We arrived in the evening and were informed there was no space on the main level, so we were seated outside. We were first informed that our wine choice was not available, and following that, waited two hours for food that never arrived! We finally left at 9 pm as we still hadn't received our food and all the tables around us, despite arriving much later, were receiving their orders. The staff and manager informed us that an issue had occurred, however, it was unclear what happened or why and no communication as to when the food would arrive. It seemed weird that no compliment was offered until we decided to leave, at which point they said the meal would be complimentary and then requested we pay for the alcohol which was really all we had. Seemed like a lot of opening issues. Hoping they will be able to organize better soon, so the atmosphere may be enjoyed. read more

We made a ressy for a table in the bar, we were told the table wasn't ready because they unexpectedly seated a larger party in bar. It was super strange - felt like a kids table in a tight warm room with ~20 other people - music was similar to background wedding tunes, a strange tv mounted on wall with wine country and coastal images on rotation. This force should not be used for general seating and reserved for parties or small events. -Food - the starters (scallops, garden hidden veggie hash) were great. Entrees poke adobo -dry-, halibut -salty-, flank steak -served on rare side was good-, salad - just ok. The dessert of small doughnuts holes were dry and stale. -cocktails - cool and kitschy- fun options and great presentation a little light on the pours in the cocktails but tasty. The seating area and vibe started the whole thing off on wrong foot, it was super strange. However, we ordered the crab appetizer and it came back out frozen. When we asked the server he replied that it got too cold in the back of the refrigerator. I was so happy to have a fine dinning option in Centerville. Went for dinner on a Tuesday. Happy hour at the bar for a drink to start. Bar was not busy, only one bartender~ had so much trouble. My friend arrived, and it took 20 minutes for her to be able to order a drink. I had an empty glass in front of me for 25 minutes, tried to catch her eye, but she seemingly couldn't get to her patrons. We could not even cash out. Went to dinner at a table, we waited 15 minutes before being greeted by our server (there was only one other table with guests). Visited today with my family at about 4.30 pm during the Centerville Main Street event Very disappointed with the reception from I guess the owner...... felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome, was told to sit on the patio...... in the cold as we couldn't be seated inside, we did , should have left but didn't Appetizers were okay, were not free We paid .peach Bellini's were good , Will not be rushing back here, felt very unwelcome...... even though they were listed as participants of the event!!
