Dirty; the floors, the bathroom, the restaurant itself. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. The restaurant had 6 red violations by the Spokane Regional Health District Food Inspector on 09/21/2022 (latest). The place has no ambiance to speak of unless you consider the few pictures on the wall. The service was slow, though the restaurant was only 30% full (when she came the server was pleasant). I've tried the downtown location, and the south hill location. Both times were very disappointing. Service was average in terms of attentiveness and timing, but knowledge of the menu/cuisine lacking. Both places, the naan was good but the dishes (I tried the butter chicken and the korma lamb) were disappointing. The flavors were bland and completely underwhelming. This place is BOMB. I have ordered tske out before and this was my first time in at the establishment. I would like to give this place a 5 star rating because their food is just that good. I order the butter chicken with a spice level of 4. It was cooked just perfect. Creamy, tangy, and oh so delectable. It came with rice and Naan. You can upgrade to garlic Naan for a buck extra. Totally worth the upgrade in my humble opinion. I ordered the chicken korma for my husband to go and he loved his dish. Chicken was seared nicely and very juicy. The spice level on his was 3 and very mild. I ordered the mango lasse to have with my meal and this was the best mango lassee I have ever had it was thick but not too thick, great consistency and flavor. It really paired nice with the butter chicken. They give you a perfect amount to wash down your food. It came nice and cold. Very impressed. I am not sure who the Indian goddess is that works back there in the kitchen but they are doing everything right! Super impressed with the quality of this food and the prices are very reasonable for the portions. We came during the COVID pandemic and they require masks to enter the establishment. They have everything spaced out nicely as well. There are a few seats on the tiny patio if you want to sit outside. I ordered the chicken curry with coconut rice. They also include your choice of Naan. In my opinion there isn't much chicken curry can't fix. I was in need of some serious comfort food and this hit the spot! I ordered spice level 2 and it still had some good heat to it. The restaurant offers dine-in and takeout. There is outdoor seating for people who's uncomfortable to eat indoor. The takeout was fast as it was ready within 20 minutes of ordering. The hostess recommended Tikki Masala, Coconut Chicken, and Butter Chicken. We got Level 4 spiciness and it definitely has a kick to it. The curry was delicious with the chicken a bit overcooked as it was dry. However, the curry has so much flavor and the extra spiciness adds on to the flavor. We got the platter along with it that came with fish/chicken/paneer pakora, chicken wings, and samosa. The chicken wings were coated with spices and has a nice aroma the moment we open the box. I highly recommend trying their samosas. It was super delicious; it is a bit spicy. Their garlic na'an is not as soft and fragrant as I had in the past with other Indian restaurants. I think I have had Indian food maaaaaaybe one or two times before. So, I walked into Mango Tree with little expectations and WOW! They blew me out of the water. We got the steak curry, chicken tikka masala and butter chicken This comes with naan and we substituted an order of butter naan and garlic naan with the classic naan. The garlic naan was a suuuper garlicy but I really liked it. It was a little much for the two people I ate with, but perfect for me. We got spice level 2 for everything and it was mild enough for my friend who doesn't like spice and good enough for me who likes a little spice. We ventured here for a lovely late lunch. There was a bit of a wait but we were able to go across the street and explore the bookstore. When we returned we were seated right away and social distancing and masks were enforced. There was also a sanitization station set up by the door. We ordered a variety of food including the butter chicken poutine as a starter, several currys, garlic naan and a grilled tandor style chicken. We were glad we ordered the appetizer because it was amazing and unfortunately, the rest of the food took a lot of time. However, it was well worth the wait, everything was delicious. My only complaint is that the grilled fish should also be served with naan. My grilled chicken and rice was delicious and the side of butter sauce was perfection, if only I had some naan to dip in it :) The other currys were also tasty and we had plenty of food with the sizable portions. Holy crap I think I know what they're trying to do. I believe they have diabolical plans for becoming the Panda Express of Indian food. They weren't horrid, but the food was so Americanized gringo, and I have no problem categorizing it as such. And sorry, I will be 'that guy' who says he's had Indian cuisine on four different continents because, well, I have. 'Naanchos?' 'Butter Chicken Poutine?' Yeah, no. I don't want clever....I want traditional when I go to an Indian joint. With the exception of my daughters Mango Curry Paneer, all the other curries tasted the same with varying degrees of spice-heat/sweetness. My Lamb Vindaloo had nice, lean chunks of lamb, but was thicker in consistency than I am used to. I couldn't visually tell the difference between the lamb and the cubed potatoes, so it made each bite a cracker jack surprise. It brought the heat I was looking for, but again, tasted like my wifey's Jalfrezi curry with a higher level on the Scoville Unit scale. Small portions with downtown prices? Yup, and yup, but I expected that. I actually drove to Dick's for a Whammy on the way home. If they do open some QSR brick & mortars in the future, I might order this mall food court fare for the kiddos when I don't feel like cookin'. But until then? Nah... read more

The service was painfully slow. I was on a break from work and Matthew was our very rude waiter. When we asked for our checks we informed him we had to go back to work. He brought them and walked away, didnt take our cards we had ready and didn't ask us if we needed boxes. 10 minutes later he was at the bar so I took him our cards and kindly let him know we needed to leave. Matthew got very angry, snatched the cards from me and said he'd get to them when he could. I asked if he could bring us boxes and a few minutes later he brought boxes to our table and threw them at me. I have never in my life experienced service like this!!!! My family absolutely loves this place. My daughter is crazy for the Curry Poutine which is french fries covered in cheese and curry. I find it a bit expensive, and also not too easy to park because its downtown, so you'll have to pay. I don't consider the dining room nice enough for a sit down destination place. To be honest you got to rate from what you have and Mango Tree is by far the best Indian restaurant Spokane has had. And it is not just about the food .. Mango Tree is just leaps and bounds ahead of the others .. in terms of location, cleanliness, service, their bar, the curated menu. The lunch is not a buffet which is a rarity for an Indian restaurant. But the lunch special plate of food with 2 curries, naan bread, rice and a sweet is a pretty nice idea. For the first timers the dishes might feel a bit expensive but accompanied with a naan bread and some rice .. they are alright. For people like me who have literally eaten Indian food almost every other day of our lives .. sometimes, the food might be a bit confusing. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, it is just that the flavors are more made than carried from the recipes. The naan bread could also be a bit soft. The best - Aaloo Tikki (Potato based patties with sweet sour spicy chutneys) Palak Paneer / Chicken (spinach based creamy curry with hint of garlic) Mango Lassi Chana masala (chickpeas curry) Tikka masala I hope they continue to invent their menu .. as without a buffet it might tend to get a bit boring after a few visits. read more

Buttered chicken: I think I received the wrong dish as it tasted like spaghetti sauce. Definitely not the buttered chicken I've ever tasted in an Indian restaurant. Didn't even eat it due to not being a huge fan of the extremely heave tomato base (seriously, think spaghetti sauce). Thinking I was given Tiki Masala or something instead of what I ordered. First of all let me say that my daughter and I have eaten at some of the very best Indian restaurants in The Seattle area, and we have been severely disappointed in the lack of decent Indian food since moving to Spokane. So we were super excited to try Mango Tree. When we entered the restaurant, although it was not busy, no one greeted us for several minutes. There were no servers even around. Finally someone came to seat us, and although I knew immediately there was no A/C, he did not seat us even close to the portable fan they had in one small area. There was an interesting daily lunch special one could order from, however, because this was our first time in, we wanted to try some standard fare. We order the Chicken Tikka Masala, butter naan, and chicken stuffed naan. When our food arrived the waitress explained how the butter naan was made. The dough was basically layered with butter and was some of the best naan we've had. The chicken stuffed naan was not at all what we'd expected (and come to find out later was not what we'd ordered). It was a flatbread with cheese and (red) chicken pieces scattered over it. It was delicious. Basically an Indian pizza if you will. The Chicken Tikka Masala (CTM) was unlike any CTM I've had before. In fact I'd say it was akin to a true Masala. Heavy on the diced onions and tomato flavor. The basmati rice that was served with it was phenomenal. They'd clearly boiled it with a myriad of spices, and it truly rounded out the flavor of the CTM. That being said both my daughter and I agreed that we wouldn't order the CTM again. It was just too tomatoey. Our bill came and we'd been charged for a flatbread instead of a chicken stuffed naan. I told the waitress that we hadn't ordered the flatbread, but now understood why it wasn't actually stuffed with chicken. She said something about how we'd already eaten it and I replied that we had no idea we weren't eating what we'd ordered. In the end she did adjust the bill to reflect what we'd ordered, but I wasn't happy to have to defend the fact that we'd eaten what we were served. The sever also never refilled our water glasses. My daughter drank all of hers plus some of mine as it was quite warm and humid (75 and drizzling). In the end I would go back, but I would order takeout so that I don't have to deal with poor service and sweat dripping down my neck. I'd like to see improvements in the wait staff, including seating and general service. I also think they might want to take a look at some ways to keep their customers cool on hot days. read more

We don't have a lot of Indian Cuisine in Spokane so I was anxious to try this new restaurant in the old Hills location. We went for lunch and they offer a special each day that is a lot of food. We had several entrees. We had the mango beef, we had marinated shrimp, chicken korma, fries, and a few other things. Everything was so good. The naan bread was yummy. The dishes were not super big and there was a lot of sauce, moderate amount of meat....but the flavor was very good. We had "3" for spice and it was a bit spicy, but not too spicy.....just right.
