As someone who loves to eat out and does so several nights a week, I can say that my dinner at Mango Thai was by far the worst meal I have had in at least five years. I don't even remember the last time I sent meal back to the kitchen, yet my husband and I had to send back three of the seven items that we ordered because they were just that terrible. First, the waitress (who never bothered to come check on us once in an hour and a half and constantly had to be flagged down) steeped the green tea for over 15 minutes to the point where it was mud. When I said it was a bit strong (I drink green tea very often) she said that it was the right way and walked away. The waitress next to us however noticed its grossness and made a new pot for the people next to us. Just none for us. Next, we ordered avocado crab rolls for an appetizer. While each had avocado, we could not find a single piece of crab in any of the four rolls. Mango Thai, you should change the name to just an avocado roll. Then I was brought a "seared" tuna salad which was completely raw, no sear at all. I ask for it to be slightly seared and it came back well done with burnt pieces all over the fish. Gross. Next we ordered the beef basil fried rice but asked the waitress if it was spicy. She said it could be put down to mild heat if we liked, which we said yes. When it came out it was at least three stars. Way too hot for anyone, even my siracha and jalepeno loving husband. We sent it back and it took over a half hour to come back, and this time it had zero spice to it and was just plain fried rice- not what we ordered. Finally, my husband ordered the shrimp pad thai, which was just completely coated in sauce to the point where you basically had to scrape it off. We would have sent it back as well, but at this point we had been waiting an hour and were just sick of getting such horrible food served to us. When we asked for our bill we were still charged the 14 dollars for the tuna salad, even though it was not eaten. The waitress refused to remove it from the bill and then when we asked to speak to the manager she told us "he is busy and doesn't want to come out to talk to customers". Terrible service. Wow! Awesome food, wait staff and presentation! The only downside would be the size as it's a bit cramped even when it's not full. We went here for a Friday night date. Mango Thai is a little bit higher end than the other Thai restaurants in town. But it is definitely worth it. We were immediately seated and greeted quickly by our awesome waiter. We started with the mango spring rolls and they were very good, but the star of this app was the peanut sauce. Pure perfection! We also got a bowl of edamame which was perfectly salted and not a limp bean in the batch. For my main course I got the chicken peanut curry. This was tossed in the same peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls. Very tasty and the chicken was so tender. I ate every last bite until my belly stuck out a mile. My wife got a mahi dish and loved that as well. I have to say the presentation of their dishes is what you would see in many higher end restaurants and I makes the dining experience so much better for me. We had absolutely no room for dessert...so we ordered it anyway. Fried banana and ice cream, again, a delicious treat that we raved about. We shall return. read more

I love mango thai. It is my ultimate favorite and it has never ceased to displease me. My favorite is the massaman curry! There appetizers are pretty tasty too. Every worker is nice, and it is a very chill place to go; whether lunch, dinner, or dessert. I have never had trouble getting seated either. read more

Wow! Pleasantly surprised. Had the mango summer rolls and seabass with asparagus in a light curry. Friendly staff and excellent meal. The restaurant is close to Mayo Clinic, Hilton and Holiday Inn so you can take the skywalk if the Minnesota cold is not your thing. I want to give 10 stars. 5 stars for the food and 5 for the service. By far, the best meal I've had in Rochester. This place is really nice. The decor is classy. The food was awesome. What a beautiful space with such nice employees! I was greeted by a lovely lantern of fire on a frigid night. The hostess bent over backwards to charge my cell phone. The drink list is ample and reasonable. I got the mango rolls to start and they were okay. Heavy on the lettuce, they were bland but the curry dipping sauce rescued them. I got the chili mint chicken for an entree. The flavor was great but the chicken was tough. I wish they would have have honored my request for a half portion. As a solo traveller and light eater, I knew I couldn't finish it and hate seeing food go to waste. Alas. But I am very happy Rochester has this ethnic cuisine option. read more

Recommended by many in town so of course we had to try it. Cute place with a cozy upscale atmosphere. The staff was attentive and friendly. Started with a delicious drink called happy captain. Appetizers potstickers and tiger were spot on, extremely tender meat. Pad thai chicken was flavorful but the chicken was a little dry. Mussman curry was small portion but delicious. For dessert I had the green tea ice cream which was a perfect end to our meal. Great place! read more

Had their Panang Chicken at a street fair and it was good. Tried the restaurant a few night later and ordered the Panang Curry with beef. It took a. long time and the beef was so tough and rubbery I had to spit it out. The flavor was good, though. read more

Food took a long time to come out. Also brought us 2 glasses of wine when we asked for a bottle. I can't give this place any better then 1 star, the only reason I don't give it 0 stars was because the crab avocado appetizer was ok, not good but at least edible. I ordered a non spicy dish, shrimp, scallop and calamari with noodles and it had so much pepper it was inedible. Besides being so peppery that it made my eyes water, cough and sneeze. To me it is a sign of an amateur chef/restaurant to over do one seasoning like that. I did let the server know that I couldn't eat it, that it would be good to tell the chef. Was really excited to try Mango Thai, as I love Thai. We were told we would have to wait 20 minutes, so we ordered some over-priced beers at the bar. We watched as diners waited fifteen minutes with their cash and credit cards out for the servers to ring them out. About 40 minutes later a table opened up which was given to a group that had just arrived, so we left and went to Sok Dee. This place is HORRIBLY DISORGANIZED. read more

I had the Rama spinach curry with peanut sauce and it was fantastic. I did ask to have some broccoli added to my curry. It was under cooked. We went there on Valentines day. We had reserved a table but had to wait nearly 15 minutes. It would not have been too much of a wait except that my wife is pregnant. Nonetheless our host was excellent, the food was of great quality including the dessert. We got a shrimp and chicken dish. Our friends who were vegetarians ordered tofu dishes. Beautiful violin music added loveliness to the ambience. The evening was topped off with a complementary rose for me to gift my wife. Negatives- for the price charged the amount of food is far less compared to other restaurants. Definitely a place to go just make sure you reserve a table! read more

This place was awesome. The service was very friendly and everything we ordered was delicious. The coconut/chicken soup was the best that I've tasted since a trip to Thailand several years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there. I ordered something that was not specifically on the menu, but the fine young man from Romania behind the bar took my order and brought me exactly what I requested. It was delicious. Be careful, because the chefs idea of medium hot and yours may not be the same. It was within my limits, but a bit spicier than a normal American medium.  Unfortunately the Tom Yum soup comes only in a family size, or I would have loved to start with it. Completely surprised by this place in the middle of Rochester. The interior is sleek and open. The food also goes with the location and looks beautiful and tastes fresh. The only qualm is that the prices are way too expensive for this type of place. The food they are serving is basic thai food on nice plates and yet they are charging prices as though they have a prix fix menu and it is fusion food. The prices need to be go down by 8 dollars per item to make the food and cost reasonable. read more

My wife and I ate dinner here twice the week we were in town. We sat at the bar both nights and had excellent food, great conversations with the wait-staff and even a nice talk with the chef-owners. In a downtown that seems to offer little more than Italian or brew-pub food this place was an absolute godsend! Here are all the dishes we had - they were all EXCELLENT- pad see iew, Rama spinach curry with tofu, spring rolls, Singapore noodles, garlic chicken. I had a great lunch here. The crab avocado rolls were delicious. But the Pad Kee Mow with shrimp was over the top delicious! Garlicky and spicy. I muttered "oh my goodness" at the first bite, not realizing I was talking to the food. I wonder if they make their noodles, because they were toothy (in a good way) and tasty. Just the right amount of egg and onion. Service was gracious and the dining room was very comfortable. I would go back often if I lived here in Rochester. I was not impressed at all. Poor customer service, super slow. Food- rice was nasty, tasted old. I know what a good cooked rice taste like, I'm Asian. Ordered the parang curry, I asked if they can cook it not spicy for me. The guy that took my order told me that they can put more coconut to dilute the spiciness on it - it was still too spicy for me. I don't know if they were short staff but service was super slow. My girlfriend and myself took her daughter to Mango Thai for her 15th birthday at her request and we had a wonderful meal. The atmosphere was very nice and inviting. The service was a little slow at first but got better. The food was very good and dessert was as well. I thought the price was good given what we received. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester. The food is awesome, the food presentation is very nice and the atmosphere is great. I especially love their curry dishes (I loved the Panang curry and pineapple shrimp curry dish). My only complaint is that some of their main entrees aren't as big as I would like especially for the price. Rice is pretty cheap so I would think they'd give more rice with their curry dishes. read more

My wife and I just went last night for the first time. We are vegetarian and the menu offered quite a few options. Mostly with tofu as a protein in place of a meat option. It was pretty crowded but we were seated quickly. The edamame was a good starter. We then each got our entrees and they were wonderful. It was the first time I have ever seen my wife tackle something that spicy and still say it was good. We finished with the coconut custard with the sticky rice. It was garnished with strawberries and it was a good small portion. Just enough. Overall our waitress was very helpful and even went to the kitchen for my wife to check if the curry had any meat products in it. They said most of the sauces they use have a fish sauce but it can be omitted. Which it did. Great food great service. We will be going back again. read more

Always liked this place -- the curries can be a little inconsistent with the salt and spice but usually turn out pretty good. I like the massaman the best! Also have ordered and enjoyed the ginger duck, the fried vegetable tempura, the various spring / summer rolls, and the walleye. Prices are on the higher end for both the quality and the portion size, but really nothing outrageous. The restaurant itself is rather intimate and service, while friendly, is a bit inattentive at times. read more
