Mango Thai is now open on Mondays. Have been there a handful of times since it opened & always enjoy the traditional spicy Thai food. Ordered the potstickers (6) which come with a spicy peanut sauce. Yum! Sharing with my husband, it leaves you wanting more! We haven't tried a lot of their menu items because the Pad Kee Mao is so good. We get #3 spicy. I love Thai food. This restaurant is not bad but very over priced. I rather go to the Thai take out in the university square, where they have stand there. Their soup is nice dishes are not the best but ok for such small town. Now the waitress were just standing doing nothing and I found a hair in my plate. I asked the waiter to ask the manager to speak to her about it but she was too busy to come and talk to me! Imagine what respect she has for her customer. Excellent spot here, dishes come out looking fabulous and well plated. Be aware in the menu they have three little stars which means how spicy it can be and they sure mean it. However the food is not only spicy it tastes amazing, I couldn't stop eating even though my mouth was burning. My girlfriend had a non spicy dish that was also delish. I've been here several times. I have had a few of the curries and noodle dishes which were very good. Also love the crab avocado rolls and pot stickers with delicious dipping sauces. Friends agree and love the fried rice. Service is always on point, I like that you can customize your heat level, they are very accommodating. Portions are decent. Highly recommend Mango Thai for the best Thai food, service and ambiance. Our waitress greeted us with smiles and a very warm welcome, making great suggestions for appetizers and drinks. She answered all of our questions and was very attentive. When the food arrived, it had wonderful presentation and tasted amazing. The food arrived right when I walked in and I left only to be followed by an employee bringing me the side of rice noodles that I ordered. Great customer service! And the food was delicious....perfect spice on the soup and great condiments (peanut sauce and spiced rice wine vinegar) for the spring roll which was fresh and perfectly balanced. Great Thai in Rochester, MN, what a pleasant surprise! On my first visit, I ordered Shrimp and Chicken Basil - $12.95. Shrimp were large and the chicken was minced and bathed in a rich, flavorful and complex sauce. Just delicious. The sauce heat level was rated xxx and provided just the right amount of heat (can be made hotter on request. The serving size was just right and I was full and satisfied when done and didn't have enough left to take home. I think that a lot of folks in the midwest have to adjust to the idea that if they aren't served enough to two or three meals, they aren't being short-changed. Had the Tom Kha Coconut Chicken Soup. The flavor was wonderful but there are inedible bits that are used in the preparation of the soup. Usually these items are left large enough to easily pick them out but they chopped them into small pieces that you end up biting into and have to be spit out. I'm giving Mango Thai four stars even though it only really deserves three. Let's face it, there aren't a lot of good, international eateries in Rochester, and many of them that try to make a go at it end up closing within a year. So kudos to Mango Thai for taking the plunge. I hope you grace downtown Rochester for years to come because, quite frankly, I don't know where else to get Tom Kha in town. I ate lunch at Mango Thai the first week it was open. We had to wait a few minutes for a table that would accommodate our group of six, but the staff was pleasant and made an effort to get us seated as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I don't think the kitchen or waitstaff was ready for the onslaught of lunch visitors. I was thrilled to see so many people patronizing this new, Thai restaurant, but the traffic did cause some problems. Most notably, the kitchen ran out of chicken, which delayed one diner's meal for more than a half hour, and she ended up having to select a different protein. I expected that meal to be comped, but it wasn't. They did take the beverages off our bill to apologize for the inconvenience, but of the six of us, that amounted to one soda and one coffee. Aside from that, the server we had was friendly, but service was slow, and food came out at random times. My appetizer arrived after my entree, and two of our six entrees arrived a good five to ten minutes before any of the others. Onto the food. Our group felt the menu was a little hit or miss. The Crab Avocado Rolls were actually pretty bland, but the honey cashew sauce was so divine I considered ordering a keg of it and bathing in the stuff. Seriously delish. Two of us had the Panang Curry, and it was wonderful. The other entrees, however, left a little to be desired. I skipped the Tom Kha solely because they don't offer any soups by the cup, and at $18 I'm afraid most people will miss out on what, in my opinion, is the most wonderful Thai dish ever conceived. I look forward to testing it out on my next visit, despite the fact it's probably the most expensive soup on any menu in the Rochester area. Bottom line, I think Mango Thai is worth a try. Trust the recommendations of the servers, who were pretty on point with their suggestions. And if you have your heart set on chicken, you better get there early. LOL read more

I have now been here 5 times. I have tried something different each time, same with my wife. 8 of the 10 dishes were outstanding and the other 2 were very good. This is my new favorite restaurant!!! I'm not from the area and I was looking for a place with options for my teenage daughter and niece who are pescatarians, we were all in love with mango Thai as soon as we walked in! The atmosphere is beautiful, very upscale decor, the music is all classical acoustic versions of popular songs with ambient lighting and fresh orchids... I was with my girls but this would be an amazingly romantic date spot. We ordered the crab avocado rolls, 3 orders of pineapple shrimp fried rice, and a mango shrimp salad... all incredibly delicious and beautifully presented. The service was great also... I am kind of sad that we don't live nearby to eat here more often but we are already planning a summer trip to the area so we can eat here again, all because we loved mango Thai so much! read more

Really like the food here, but the service was terrible. They forgot to put our appetizer order in, and it didn't come for almost 40 minutes. We did not order complex dishes, but the tables on either side of us that came in after we ordered were done with their meals before our food even showed up. I went to the Mango Thai's booth on Thursdays on First. They had BBQ Chicken, BBQ Ribs etc. I ordered the BBQ chicken that comes on skewers. The chicken was burnt pretty black on one side and under cooked (pink on the other side). The rice was wrapped in a plastic sheet like a ball. Was in a group and got sucked into peer pressure. Never will I buy from this outlet. When I bought again in the food court later, the overall quality was so much better. I will bump up the rating. read more

First TERRIBLE experience I ever had in my life with a restaurant. I am not a person to leave a NEGATIVE review for an establishment, and that means something when I write this up. It all started Saturday night when my Girlfriend and I wanted to get asian food after a movie. It was 9 pm but we found this place on yelp (Mango Thai) that was opened late so we decided to go straight to it. Now, let me preface this by saying I've worked as a Server and a Bartender for 3 years, in my younger days. So, I can understand when there is a rush, that service goes down a bit because employees are a bit overwhelmed and have to juggle multiple tasks. I can sympathize with the workload, that, that has made me an extremely flexible and patient customer with my servers. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the place was casually slow and there were a quite a few tables open once we walked in. Usually when you walk into a restaurant, there is a host to greet guest or at least a sign that says, "Wait for hostess," or "Please, seat yourself." This place did not have either, so we stood at the doorway awkwardly for a few minutes as we were new guest. We didn't know the protocol. After a few moments, we decided to go and grab a table since no one came up to us to lead us to a table. "No worries," I thought. Not a big issue. We don't know the set-up as we are new guests. Soon after we seated ourselves, we looked over the menus that were already placed on the table and waited for a server to come and get a drink order from us. But nothing came. I kept looking around at the servers and bartenders, and they were care-free walking around, talking to one another. Asking other tables how their meals were, completely ignoring us as if we never walked in. "Okay, maybe we broke protocol and we weren't suppose to just grab a table," I thought. I would have apologized if that was the case, but no one came up to us for the next 15 MINUTES! This is a small restaurant as well. It's pretty obvious when people come in or leave. But we were completely SHUNNED. To top it all off, an older couple were seated right next to us. A server seated them and then came back with their complimentary water to get their drink order. While we were still waiting to be GREETED at the table next to them at 1 FOOT APART. At this point, I was boiling inside. NEVER have I ever experience such terrible service! What a TERRIBLE IMPRESSION. Respectfully, I asked the server, "If there was a reason why we were being ignored?" soon after she took the next table's drink order, next to us. She quickly replied with a, "Oh, do you want me to get a drink order?" Shameful, not an apology or anything to acknowledge how we were completely ignored until I had to get there attention in front of other guests. Thankfully, the couple that were seated next to us apologized to us and made us feel a bit more comfortable. They asked if we were here before. We told them it was our first time. And they started recommending things to us to make us feel a bit more welcomed. I thanked them for that but it was already to late. I'm sure the Server heard our conversation as she quickly came back with some waters and apologized for the rude first impression they had on us. Quickly followed by what I would like to drink. At that point, I had already went through some rage that I didn't feel comfortable eating or drinking anything from this place and we walked out. They won't see any money or good words from me anytime soon. Please, acknowledge your guest and make them feel welcomed. All we wanted was to try your food and have a great time! This experience from this restaurant has left a sour taste and a first terrible experience I won't forget anytime soon. read more

Service should never be sacrificed just because you have good food. I'm vegan and I've never had my food made correctly on the first order. There's always something wrong with it. My last encounter with an employee there was over the phone to place a pickup order. I was put on a "2minute" hold but that turned into 20+ minutes. Anyway, I hung up and tried to call back but it seemed I had been ignored and the phone switched to voicemail because that's exactly what it did- it went straight to voicemail. My girlfriend has also had other issues with service at this place and so have some of her friends so it sounds like an ongoing thing. read more

My parents are pretty big fans of Mango Thai, they were excited that a good Thai restaurant with a hip vibe popped up downtown, and because of their raving, I went to try it out a few days ago. We got there around 6:30pm on a weeknight and it was packed. We'd made a reservation but still had to wait about 10 minutes. We ordered the mango spring rolls, the pad see iew, and the panang curry. The rolls came out in 15 minutes, but 45 minutes after we'd finished our rolls, our meal still hadn't come. We asked the waiter a few times to check the kitchen and he said it was coming up, but 15 minutes later, another waiter came and told us that the printer had broken and our order hadn't gone in and apologized, but our waiter came back and simply blamed the kitchen and the printer. Our meal came out an hour after we'd finished our appetizer. We were pretty frustrated, but we decided to let it go, not only because we were too hungry, but we assumed these things don't happen very often. (Now onto the food!) The mango spring rolls were a 4.5. The sauces that came with them were delicious and the mango and avocado worked well together. The curry and the noodles, however, were 3s. I've had worse and I've had better. The curry was a bit too salty, but otherwise it was good and the pad see iew was pretty good but nothing special. One tips is to try their walleye. It's a special and my parents (who are basically regulars by now) get it every. single. time. If it was based on my personal experience at the restaurant, I'd give them 1 star, but because my parents have been there many times and have had great experiences, I'm averaging my rating to 3 stars. read more

I really liked this place but thought it was extremely pricey! The mango spring rolls were recommended to us, as we were told they were one of their most popular items. I thought they were good, but nothing out of this world. The sauces were better than the roll itself. We had the daily curry special, which was fantastic but seemed like a pretty small portion for the price. This seems like it would be a good date night or special occasion spot-- I wouldn't put this on the top of my list, as I've been to far better for less $$. My mom and I stopped in Rochester, Minnesota on our road trip from Boston to Boulder and were looking for somewhere to have dinner. We stumbled upon Mango Thai's reviews on Yelp and decided to check it out; we expected a standard no-frills Thai restaurant just like any other. We were pleasantly surprised when we showed up and saw the restaurant, which was more upscale and nicer than we expected. We both ordered the Cashew Chicken and got a side of the Spicy Beef Basil Fried Rice to share. YUM. Everything was incredibly delicious - both dishes were full of really great flavor. We also ordered Pad Kee Mao and Pad Thai to have for lunch the next day during the next leg of our road trip. The only slight negative to this experience was that the service was a little slow - our waiter was great, but the food took a bit of time to come out.
