Great service....it is one of the best Italian places I have eaten at. On a negative degree night, it was very quiet, but I'm told reservations are in order normally. No problem. Started with an antipasto and caesar salad with anchovies. Both were delicious. The bread and oil standard fare. I had the cannelloni and it was out of this world; the sauce was exceptional. The cappuccino and dessert we had (banana crepes) were also fantastic. There is a little "convenience store" next door, but I suggest bringing a nice bottle of wine to savor the meals here. A very nice surprise. We enjoyed delicious garlic bread, Caesar salad and an incredible Calamari in a slightly spicy red sauce. Dinner, an amazing "poor man's spaghetti" with shrimp; fresh roasted garlic cloves, olive oil and pepper flakes .. And a traditional chicken parmesan with ziti. I made a reservation to surprise my wife on her birthday at this restaurant. She loves Italian so I figured, based on the great reviews, she would love it. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were seated promptly at a small table tucked near an unfinished area of the restaurant that was planned for expansion. Just a bunch of stuff laying around so the ambiance was diminished by looking at the clutter. The tables are closely positioned so it is difficult to carry on a conversation without hearing nearby patrons conversing. The acoustics are not great either. We were left alone for 15 minutes before someone approached us. However, she was only asking if we brought wine and when we said no, she took away the wine glasses. (They charge $4 per bottle to uncork and pour wine that you bring). After a little while longer I asked one of the 3 waitresses working to inquire which on was our server. She said she was and said she would return. She did after a while to take our order. (She was quite short with us apparently put off by my inquiry). We both ordered the meatloaf special. She brought a basket of bread and dipping oil. She did warn us that our dinners might take a while since a party of 10 had just put in their orders. Little did I know that it would take over 45 mins to get our meals. They just kept delivering more bread. The meatloaf was good but not outstanding. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night. They will struggle if they expand since the kitchen can't keep up with the diners already. The chef is a "one man show" and prefers to work alone according to his wife which was our server. We doubt we will return since the experience was so underwhelming. We really wanted and expected to love this place. Maybe it was just our bad luck. Although our experience was only 2 stars, I am giving them 3 stars to give them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they are generally better than our experience showed. read more

Four of us went out to dinner at Mangia's last night. After reading all the reviews, we were dying with anticipation to try it. The service was mediocre at best, very slow, no follow up at all after the entrees where served. The restaurant was very clean, but outdated and dark. It is a very intimate environment. The food wasn't bad, but, very disappointing when compared to other reviews. We were expecting a higher level of quality, flavors and authenticity. Now that we have gone, we don't think it requires a return trip. read more

I found this restaurant on Restaurant.com. they accept $5 & $10 certificates from Restaurant.com. As that site said they were a bit expensive, I decided to try them out and use a coupon. I'm glad I did. For $19.95 I got a great mare e terre with linguini entree (mussels and Italian sausage). Waitress was friendly. Restaurant is small (just 7 tables for a max of 20 people) with nice background music. I think you'll enjoy it. read more

So disappointed. 8:45 reservation, food ordered at 8:50, entrees delivered at 10:40. Basic pasta entrees (eggplant parm & penne amatriciana) were $17 and the portions were terrible. I ate my penne in a few minutes and was still hungry. It was very light on the pancetta too. My wife's eggplant was basically soup. This was a Friday night and we arrived at 8:45 and didn't see ANY entree leave the kitchen in the first hour we were there (and we were seated near the kitchen exit). The flavor of the food was good, but they need to reduce prices, improve portions, and decrease service times. There's no way we'll be going back. read more

I had Veal Florentine with spaghetti , the veal was tender the creamy sauce was excellent and the pasta was cooked perfectly . My husband had the Chicken Alfredo which he said was delicious . Delicious food, but the wait for your food after you order is borderline unbearable. A little wait is charming. This goes way beyond charming. Don't go hungry, because your hunger will grow throughout your time there. That said, the gnocchi is heavenly, as is the bruschetta. One of the best hidden gems in southern New Hampshire very small Italian restaurant which seems to be all scratch made to order very reasonably priced and bring your own beer wine and champagne. Only drawback is that it is a small venue so probably best to make a reservation and the food takes a little long but it's totally worth the wait. read more

Third time here and last! One star because the food is good but everything else here is poor. The staff is cold, and the kitchen takes forever to get any food out. The first visit here was fine. Good food and average service. That was a year and a half ago. The next time we came here we were sent away at 5:30 because we didn't have a reservation. The place was dead and it made no sense that they would send business away. For this most recent visit we made a reservation in advance. However, after we were seated and ordered we waited an hour for our soup/salad then another hour 15 minutes for our entrees. And it wasn't 'that' crowded. I mean 90% of the tables were taken at first but they dwindled down and there was no line outside. And the waitress wasn't at all apologetic. Don't bother coming to this crappy part of town for this place. Stay further north on Elm St where there are better restaurants with better service. read more

It's hard to understand the extremes in the reviews but for me and the other 5 people in our party, we cannot say enough about the fabulous food at Mangia and totally love the idea of BYOB. True, the service isn't fast and true, parking can be a bit of a hassle, but that's just the nature of downtown Manchester. As per previous reviews, the food here is excellent and well prepared. Service, however is another matter. One waiter and one bus boy on a Saturday night. Food is prepared to order which makes it fresh and flavorful. We watched one table of 8 have their entrees delivered over a period of 40 minutes. Our meal which consisted of one bruschetta appetizer and 4 entrees took over 2 hours to deliver. We were not in a hurry, so the three hour 2 course meal was not an issue for us. If it is for you, you may want to consider another restaurant. read more

The location isn't the best and parking is sometimes a challenge, but don't let that deter you. The food here is so good and you can bring your own bottle of wine or beer. A few of us girlfriends met up for dinner and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I had the caprese salad which was lacking the balsamic that I prefer, but it was still very tasty. Food was tasty with good ingredients but basic, pricing was reasonable, but portions were small. Waitstaff was well-meaning but not well trained (not perceptive of the customers' needs). Worst of all, the dining room was cold, and despite several requests to turn up the heat, the baseboard heaters never even warmed up and several customers in the restaurant wore their heavy coats throughout the entire dinner. Mangia is hands down the best Italian restaurant in Manchester. The food is all made fresh to order with the best ingredients and the service is top notch. I have personally tried a majority of the items on the menu and would recommend any dish. Some of my favorites are the creamy chicken marsala, chicken carbonara and penne rigate. Even if you can't find something you like you can order the "Challenger" dish which allows you to chose from the available ingredients to create your own custom dish. read more

As soon as I saw that it was BYOB and everything is made to order, I fell in love. People are not accustomed to long, leisurely dining experiences in the US and I think it's shameful. Italians center their lives around the joy and experience of great company and amazing food. We stumbled upon this place after hearing some awesome reviews and have raved about it ever since. It feels so Italian! Quiet, intimate, and relaxed, this is a little slice of Italy. The food is done right, from scratch, to order - so yes, it takes a while, but it's so worth it. We brought our own bottle of chianti and paid the $4.95 corkage fee, which saves the $50+ we would normally spend on a bottle of wine. Bruschetta was incredibly fresh and delicious. We opted for the specials that evening; an arugula salad with fontina, red onion and balsamic reduction, eggplant rolatini with capicola and asparagus, and the veal special which had 3 tender, breaded, pan fried medallions with fresh ricotta, eggplant, asparagus, mozzarella and a wonderful cream sauce. The pasta that accompanied the dish was chef's choice and it was fresh and amazing. Just a little pasta to compliment the main attraction, the way it should be. Our server was incredibly friendly, knowledgable, and attentive, but not overly imposing. The best was her passion for the food. We are both total foodies, so we love when we have a server who loves the food. We were there for about 2-1/2 hours, which was awesome because how often do people have the chance to relax and enjoy a wonderful meal in which your courses are spaced out and you can just visit and eat and be happy? This is one of those "trust the chef's judgement and let him make whatever he feels is the best" places, and he certainly earned our trust. We were absolutely 100% impressed and will definitely make this a regular spot. If you need to pick up a bottle of wine, there's a brand new liquor store right across the street and a convenience store that has beer next door. Mangia is amazing. It's our go-to Italian restaurant in Manchester. It's just like eating in the north end of Boston. It's BYOB and quite small which makes for a great romantic date spot. The food is authentic and made to order. I lived in Italy for a while and can say the quality of the food matches Italy's finest. Be prepared for a true Italian experience meaning you will be there for a while but it's well worth it. The owner is the awesome guy from the island of Capri and he goes into boston each week to get ingredients. I can't say enough good things about this place! My husband and I recently went to Mangia for my birthday. Soon, a creeping horror began to settle around us when I realized that our food would not be served within 15 minutes of ordering. To be trapped in a cozy, intimate restaurant and forced to converse with my husband while - GASP - sipping delicious wine we'd been saving for a special occasion was truly tortuous. Just the worst. How dare they take the time to cook our food to order? Why can't they make it all earlier in the day and stick it under those orange lights? And what's a microwave even FOR if not to reheat premade food? Isn't that the American way? I don't understand how to function if the staff isn't trying to turn your table over as quickly as possible. The idea that we could sit and enjoy each other's company, wine and good food for as long as we wanted truly filled me with a paralyzing existential dread. After the trauma of the evening, I could barely muster the will to blow out the charming candle they put in my tiramisu. After hearing from various friends about how great this restaurant is, some girlfriends and I arranged to meet here for our monthly dinner. We left very disappointed. The service was beyond slow, with a waiter who was not knowledgeable about the majority of the dishes. In fact, we thought it was his first night. It was not, and I greatly sympathize for the people who were his first customers when he did start working there. Most importantly, the dish I got was almost inedible (almost because I was hungry and did manage to force down a few bites). I am a vegetarian, and my pasta dish set me back $15 for a plate of penne and canned tomatoes. I am not sure how they got it to taste like cigarettes, but I am intrigued. My friends' dishes were nothing to rave about either. The wine was good, although wait..... Would not recommend, and would never visit again. read more

All of the meal courses weren't terrible, however nothing really stood out as being pretty good or even memorable. Our server was not pleasant and we felt rushed. It's bring your own alcohol - bottle of wine or beer (however they charge you a $4.25 "corking fee" per bottle). Seriously? Basically a $65 per person bland meal (not including drinks). I can think of many places in Manchester that offer a much better experience, quality of food... Etc. For the price, I at least expected something decent. My fiancé and I absolutely love this restaurant. Don't let its location fool you, this place is a gem. The atmosphere is cozy and delightful.
