This restaurant has potential. We started with a couple of cocktails. One was just a basic rum Coke, and the other was a Sangria. The drinks were in small glasses filled with ice and very little beverage. They were so small that we order another round fairly quickly. However, we had no idea how much cocktails cost until the check came. The four drinks alone almost $60. Next we ordered the bruschetta. I thought it was very good. My wife said it was so so. Our entrees were okay. I had a veal dish and my wife had a chicken dish. Both were okay, but not great. We both had a dessert tiramisu and a chocolate molten. Again no idea of the price until the check came. The chocolate molten that appeared to be store bought with a small scoop of gelato was $14.95! We have had moltens in many restaurants and typically pay no more than $7. The entire bill with a standard 20% tip was over $180 for 2. We felt we had to give this restaurant a try it seemed highly reviewed. However, we have had better meals at Portafino in Merrimack for half the price. read more

Mangia is not only the best Italian restaurant in Manchester, but the best Italian I have eaten ever-- and I'm someone who grew up eating from Boston's famed North End. Chef Angelo Bruno works wonders with food, and if you can't find your favorite dish on the menu, rest assured it's in his repertoire! (If he has the ingredients, he'll make you any dish you'd like.) The (about) 10-table restaurant has been enjoying success and is expanding into the former tailor shop next door. First time at this restaurant ...Looking for a place to go locally for our anniversary. My wife got the chicken francese and I got the chicken Parm. We also ordered the marinara dipping oil to go with the crispy bread points which were fantastic. For dessert my wife had the tiramisu and I had the mini cannolis. For a beverage we had a bottle of Pellegrino. Including the tax everything came to about $63. Now for the review.... Absolutely fantastic! One of the best chicken Parmesan I have ever had. Pasta was perfect..el dente. My wife loved her dish. The marinara dipping oil is fantastic. Not overly powering of garlic like every other place it was a wonderful blend of herbs and a perfect dipping sauce for the bread. Red sauce for the pasta and chicken Parm was delicious. Mini cannolis for dessert or fantastic very light freshly filled creamy not heavy. My wife's tiramisu was excellent. We had the bruschettes for starter (delicious) and penne ala amatriciana and the fetuccini with cream cheese. The mains were decent but not something special. Everything is made fresh, which probably explains why it took them more than an hour to serve the food. Our waitress was very friendly. Its interesting that you can bring your own wine/beer but they will charge you for corkage. On street parking and for Saturday night a reservation would be a wise thought. read more

Food: 5 Very flavorful for both of our chicken dishes that came off the specials menu. Most Italian restaurant I go to these days you get served bland uninspired food but these were very good. Value: 2-3 Speaking just portion and price, portions for one of our dishes was very small while the other was appropriate. At 20ish dollars a meal, I would have hoped for more pasta than what seemed like a few stands. A shame because I would have left hungry if I didn't eat other people's food. Service: 2-3 Our waitress was nice but service was incredibly slow and they were not attentive. We got our food, but had empty waters when it arrived and they were never filled. Place was mostly empty and we waited 10 minutes before anyone noticed us in the curtains. I also asked for a tiny bit of red sauce to try and was brought a larger bowl at the end of the meal. I'm not sure what sure wanted us to do with it since we had nothing to eat it with.... we tried a tiny bit and it was good but we were charged for it. If she at least brought some more bread it would have made sense. Anyway if you're not starving and looking for good Italian food in the area give this place a shot. Thought we'd give this place a try and we were thoroughly disappointed. First no parking, you have to find parking on the busy street. Service was fine, but food was extremely bland. I had a Scallop in Alfredo dish that was like scallops & pasta in hot milk, very watery and tasteless. My husband had the Cioppino which is supposed to be a zesty, spicy seafood dish and even his was bland and very watery. As for price, Yelp gives this place $$, but i thought they were very expensive, my dish was $21.95 and I was fully expecting SEA scallops and was very surprised when it was served to find tiny little BAY scallops. My husbands dish was $25.95 and the sea food portion was skimpy. I think the only reason this place has a very good rating is because it is BYOB, As far as my opinion goes, I suggest BYOF (food), too!! The food is fantastic as is the ambience. We enjoyed the Caesar salad which was fresh, crisp, and the right amount of dressing and cheese with delicious croutons. The chicken Marsala with a touch of cream was sublime. The sauce with mushrooms was very flavorful and the past was cooked just right! The bread service was also light and tasty! Our family visited last night and we had an awesome dinner! Angelo is a great chef! I had the Penne Alla Matraciana, and it was fabulous! I love that everything is always fresh and made to order. I can easily only say amazing things about this place. I've eaten at many of the high end restaurants in Manchester and this is in my top 3 favorites and definitely my favorite Italian place! Fresh made to order everything in a romantic setting. My favorite order is the creamy chicken Marsala, bruschetta, and antipasta salad, but I also enjoy many other menu items. The kitchen is small so I do recommend getting an appetizer if you're extra hungry. Like everyone mentioned yes it is byob but nothing hard. The staff have always been pleasant and friendly even when I made a reservation a half hour before closing one night, always pleasant and work as a team to get things done. This location has street parking with spaces right in front and across the street (someone below suggested they have no parking) and I definitely recommend making reservations as this is not a large restaurant. read more

I do not recommend-I had wanted to try Mangia for years...we arrived at 6:20pm for our 6:15pm reservation, 5min late. Our table small, ie:tiny for 2 in the corner, next to us same size table & behind, rectangle table for 6...fairly stuck in our corner. Everyone around us was there before us-the other table for 2 next to us had just gotten their meals as we ordered drinks...we ordered entrees by 645pm...at 8:15pm still no entrees for us...had I not ordered Bruschetta we would have had no food- we were not offered table bread... the table for 6 & two other tables for 2 that I could see across the room...all those other had arrived before us-none of them had entrees...the waitress was nice, thought it was LONG as well...I know all is made to order, fresh etc...but seriously none of us had entrees...we were 90min from time of ordering, longer for the table of 6 & the other two tables of 2...We had to go- we could not even take the entrees to go as the food 90min plus was not ready! The manager did a void- left so disappointed, had wanted to go there for years! Do not go unless you have ALL evening! read more

I HAD TO pick a star to complete this review, but if it were up to me, NO stars would be more accurate. My husband and I had a 6:30 reservation this evening at Mangia. Took 20 minutes to get dry, cold white bread and water with no ice..which we asked a lemon for ... which took another 20 minutes to get. Strike 1. We finally got our salad, both completely overdressed. Hubby got the caprese' salad. Tomatoes were hard, and tasteless. If you're going to serve this, go to a fresh market and get good quality tomatoes, or just don't offer it. Strike 2. Waitress told us 30+ minutes before hand that our food was being cooked; obviously, that was not happening, but it's Friday night, so we expect a wait. An hour from that goes by, and we're in an hour and a half, no entrees. At that point, I told her an hour/half is too much, and if he's not cooking it, were leaving. She came pretty quick with the check and apologies. When we were watching her, it seemed she was QUITE busy; hostessing, clearing tables, and waiting tables, which lead me to believe they need more wait staff. Seeing that the food never arrived, it also lead me to believe they need another cook. Heard great reviews, so we gave it a shot. We paid for our salads, and left hungry. That should NEVER happen. I write more positive reviews; as let's face it, it's more fun. However, as unpleasant as it is to write one, the sole purpose is to bring it to light, in hoping it will lead to the necessary changes. Going out to eat is a treat, and it should be enjoyable, and this unfortunately was not. I'm a regular here due to the outstanding detail and care put into each dish Angelo, the chef, produces. He's never missed the mark on cooking each dish to perfection. I've tried the meatballs, artichoke brushetta, shrimp alfredo, veal saltamboca, mussels in white wine sauce, stuffed portabella mushrooms, linguine with clams and pesto brushetta. All of which were mouth watering, satiating and fresh. The chicken is never dry, the meatballs are simple yet declicious and the sauces are authentic. Angelo is from Capri and keeps true to this style of cooking. He is so accomodating, I've brought everyone I know to this restaurant and been accomodated with up to 10 people on a Saturday night. Reservations are usually required as the setting is intimate and he plans his ingredients based off of how many people he has coming in. There have been instances where he runs out of eggplant or artichoke to make the brushetta however my favorite waitress, Cynthia is always there to give superb recommendations on what to substitute-for example rosemary for sage. BYOB with a 3$ corking fee. Everytime I get the check I am so impressed with how cheap it is because of the high quality of the food. Each entree ranges from about 12-28$ being the highest I think. They will accomodate your wishes and substitutes and be up front about availability of ingredients. The food does take time to prepare and my average experience is about 2 hours at the restaurant being seated, taking our orders and delivering appetizers, entrees and desserts. The cannolis are amazing. I tried to do take out once however it depends on how busy he is for the night and I was denied however I realize how in demand this restaurant is. The location is right before queen's city ave, next to a dingy looking market. There's white christmas lights strewn in front of the restaurant and it is easy to drive right by. Parking is limited in front and usually I have to park across the street. The state liquor store is located adjacent to the restaurant which makes it easy to pick up bottles of wine before you dine .I highly recommend this place and if you can request Cynthia as your server- she is phenomenal and makes you feel like family. read more

Just fyi, there is another Yelp page for this restaurant - under Mangia. This place is great. It's cozy and the perfect date spot. It's nice for a couple or two couples - no more than that based on the size and time it takes. Every table was full on a recent Saturday night. My boyfriend and I brought a bottle of wine and were at Mangia for nearly 2.5 hours. We loved it. You definitely should make a reservation, bring wine, and prepare to just relax and enjoy each other's company. We each got salads to start - perfectly fresh and lots of flavor. Next time I will 'design my own' salad with the ingredients they have. We had bread in between salad and entrees that was fresh out of the oven with Italian seasoning. For our entrees, I had the Penne Rigate and added chicken (you can pretty much customize and order anything you want if they have it in the kitchen) and my boyfriend had the chicken parm. We finished with two cappuccinos and shared tiramisu. We didn't think the tiramisu was made in-house, but it was delicious none the less. We'll be back for another date night - and bring friends. I only wrote on Yelp one other time, and it was to give a good rating. My wife and I are two retired professionals dressed for a show later that night. We came to Mangia at 5:30PM on Friday night in Spring. Not a single customer in the place. Hostess asked if we had a reservation. At first we thought it was a joke. BUt it wasn't. But I get it. Then she sat us at the table nearest corner to the bathrooms 7 feet away , and my back was inches away from the entrance of the kitchen. They had maybe 20 tables. We finished dinner around 6:30. In that time two parties came in , (one couple and another of three people). I do understand about her asking if we had a reservation but to seat us there when they a total of 5 other people expected was a slap in the face. The dining area was small. All openings (doors, rooms) were small and tight. Seating me at the entrance of the kitchen entrance could be considered a safety hazard to boot. The meal was mediocre at best. Price of meals do not include oil for bread. We won't be making reservations there anytime soon. read more

Mangia is consistently the best Italian food you can find. You must come in expecting to take your time. Bring your favorite bottles of wine. I always bring a bottle for appetizers and a bottle for the entrees. Relax, order an appetizer, drink some wine. The appetizers are always changing and always great. Bruschetta is a must. The entrees are amazing. I almost always get the veal with creamy Marsala. It's other worldly. The Chicken Modo Mio is also fantastic. I love the tiramisu. I inquired and was told it is made in house and I thought it was great. Make a reservation, especially on the weekends. Dinner usually takes a couple of hours and as long as you're not in a hurry its wonderful! If you want to bring the kids service is fast during the weeknights. Easily the best Italian meal I've had in a restaurant ever. The only time I've had a comparable authentic Italian meal was when the 85+ year old Sicilian grandparents of an old friend made an Easter dinner feast many years ago...this meal was THAT good. The service was solid, the food and flavor was incredible. I didn't have a bad bite the entire evening, and my date thought the dessert was to die for. We had dinner at Mangia last night and what an experience. I would give it a 6 if I could. We as a family love Italian food and when we eat out more often than not it is Italian. First atmosphere! You step in it is cozy, warm and inviting. They have some really cool stuff as decorations that adds to the ambience. The menu on the wall is very unique. HOWEVER the food was over the moon. We like Bruschetta and we make it ourselves at home but also order it when we are out. It has always been good but basically the same. This appetizer was unlike I have ever had. FANTASTIC! The meals are prepared fresh, I mean FRESH. But that is not the good part. Mangia has taken good Italian dishes and put their own flair to them. Fettuccine Alfredo: Smooth, tasteful and just the right amount of everything. Veal Masala with creamy masala: Unbelievable unlike anything you have ever eaten. Mussel's marina: Again very unique it had great flavor and consistency and a spice in the sauce I really liked but do not remember having that flavor in this dish before. Now for the great part. Our "waitress" turned out to be the owners wife. What a great personality Amanda has. We talked about food, their other location but most importantly our families and how we love Italian food. This is a "must visit" restaurant. There is nothing to merit any complaints. The food is prepared fresh, served very hot and is absolutely delicious. The chef is truly a chef. No "posing" here; this chef is the genuine article. I visit this establishment twice a week and have always been treated well and have always had a top notch dinner. I have dined at the best Italian restaurants in San Francisco and New York City; this little and totally unpretentious restaurant could hold it's own in these cities. My amazing boyfriend took me to Mangia for my birthday on 9/26/14. This was our first visit and will not be the last. As you walk in, you are immediately hit with the aroma of garlic, tomato sauce that's probably been cooking all day, and whatever else is cooking in the back. The place is small, warm and cozy. You should definitely plan in advance and make a reservation, they fill up very quickly. The food is great and is prepared to order, easily as good as or better than some of the restaurants in the North End. We started with the Stuffed Portabello Mushroom which was accompanied by a basket of hot bread for sopping up the sauce, which we did, every last bit of it. My boyfriend ordered The Poor Man Spaghetti with Chicken and I had the Cheese Ravioli. Our entrees were accompanied by yet another basket of hot bread. :-). Everything was delicious and you could tell that a lot care went in to preparing each dish. You should be prepared for a bit of a wait since there's only one person doing all of the cooking but, it's certainly worth the wait for what comes out of that kitchen. We picked this as it was easy to get to from the highway on our road trip and what a find it was. The food could compete with many Italian restaurants in NYC and the decor was tasteful with a relaxed welcoming atmosphere. It was quiet when we went so food came out quickly and was cooked perfectly. Authentic Italian good at its finest. I had the Chicken Roma which was the perfect blend of Alfredo sauce and tomato with sundried tomatoes and onion to add texture. My husband had a flavorful and spicy penne rigata. Wow! A hidden jewel in Manchester. Once you go here you'll never be satisfied with the usual Italian fare in Manchester. We spent two wonderful hours enjoying delicious homemade food. We had the tomato and goat cheese salad, clams casino, portobello gnocchi and chicken francesa. All dishes are made to order so it's takes a bit longer - well worth it though!!! Wow...I came here for a private party, and I was impressed. Our party started off with some bruschetta, mussels marinara and an antipasto plate. The bruschetta was good, the mussels were spot on, but the antipasto plate looked nothing more than something you would find in a grocery store (I say this with a bit of bias as my mother's is tough to beat!). Now...on to the entree. I had Veal Marsala with a creamy Marsala sauce. WOW! The Marsala base was so rich and wonderful, and the touch of cream Angelo adds to that sauce just brings it home. If I could, I would bring this sauce home, unfortunately, there were no leftovers, and I am pretty sure I licked the plate clean. The menu is very simple, and I am sure, there is not a bad dish on the menu. I cannot wait to return back to Manchester and eat again at Mangia! Just a footnote: They do not have a liquor license, so BYOB. They do charge a corking fee for all wine, but will supply you with any type of stemware that is required. Okay, cool place but my one complaint is that it took a good fortnight to see our waitress and the place was empty. Beyond that everything was awesome. We had the leaning tower of caprese salad that consisted of warm tomatoes, melted mozz, basil, and a balsamic glaze and I could've eaten six of them if they weren't so pricey... I have been craving them since I left. I had the marsala and it was really good, chicken was perfectly cooked, and the gravy was homemade and you could tell. It is a small byob establishment nestled ever so gently in an area that you may be nervous to walk through at night but it's one of those places where you're just going to have to deal with it to try this little slice of heaven out.
