I've been to Maneki Sushi quite a few times, and I'd say it can be a little hit or miss, but thankfully there are definitely more hits than misses, so 4 stars feels fair. I love their sunomono salad and spicy garlic edamame. Those are usually a must for me. This time I also had the salmon nigiri and the Alvarado roll. I'm usually a little skeptical of sushi rolls with cream cheese, but the Alvarado pleasantly surprised me. It worked! The restaurant itself is small and kind of cute, but they could definitely pay more attention to the cleaning. One of my pet peeves is going somewhere to eat and noticing that the most obvious areas haven't been cleaned, especially something as visible as the wall. It just makes you wonder about the areas you can't see. Overall, I keep coming back because I've had more good experiences than bad, and there are a few menu items I genuinely enjoy. A little more attention to cleanliness and consistency would easily make this a stronger 4 or even 5 stars for me. read more

This place, even understaffed, was terrific service and food quality. It was definitely a typical sushi restaurant vibe. The sushi pieces of sashimi were small for the cost, but very fresh. The tempura was also prepared on site and was very tasty. They seem to be famous for their rolls as each roll looked like a huge meal. The katsu was dry and overcooked, but overall it was not bad, though the prices were a bit steep for the quantity. The restroom was clean, though, so that is a plus. Also Ramen specials advertised daily. Saw ramen and tempura for $15. -It's quaint with about 10 tables inside. Busy on a Friday night but only Waited about 5 minutes for a seat for 2. Once we sat down, 2 friendly ladies were waitressing. One of them checked on us promptly & got our orders. The other lady served us The miso soup/salad. Sushi also arrived quickly. The food is delicious & in very generous portions, the small Japanese style dividers between the table and the communal bench along with the Japanese inspired art around the place really brings it all together, it leaves you with a sensation that you just wanna come back. Superrrrr mid sushi. They put sm rice that it's just tastes gummy. Idk if that makes sense. But if you've had good sushi it's not this. No wonder they're relatively cheap. Quick and easy process: ordered on my phone and it was ready in the 15-20 min it took for me to drive here. I went with the chicken teriyaki + tempura + gyoza for $15. Maybe it looked extra generous because it was takeout and therefore given in 3 separate boxes. Still, it felt like a lot of food. Lots of chicken, big scoop of rice, and a salad in one box. 6 pcs tempura (4 veggie, 2 shrimp) in the next. And 3 pcs gyoza in the last box. Flavor wise, it was prob as good as any other sushi spot. Small place, so go at a reasonable hour so you can get in. Several people arrived right as we did around 530pm. We waited maybe 15 minutes for a party of four. Overall the good was great no complaints other than if you like wasabi you better ask for a-lot more than the 1/4th teaspoon size they give you for 4 people. I ended not getting any because when we asked for more it was the same size and my husband was waiting for some too. I didn't want to ask her again so I just ate my food the way it was. read more

This was a nice find in Union City!! I was in Best Buy in Union City and Yelped nearby sushi restaurants and this place came up. It's in a decent sized strip mall on Alvarado Blvd that wasn't too far away. The sushi was good and fresh, and the tea and miso soup were very good. Nice ambiance, nice wall decor, very clean!! Thought I'd update since it's different now with the pandemic. I haven't been there in a really long time until a few nights ago. Their sushi hit the spot. My dad is usually picky, but he loved their sushi. The food was packaged well and even labeled. They have a spot inside for online and phone orders. It was ready on time for pickup.
