My sister told him not to take my credit card, because it was my birthday (you know, one of those typical fight to pay the bill things). As she was signing the bill the man went to the back and grabbed a keychain with a tiny zip purse on it. He had such a genuine smile. The kind that warms your heart up a bit even if you're in a bad mood. He said it was for my birthday and they brought it over from Thailand. Such a mood lifter. Intimate setting with plenty of Thai decorations. You know this place is good when there are actually Thai people working and eating there. The menu has good variety from noodle dishes to standard curry dishes. However there are some unique dishes as well including the northern Thai sausage. These are a grilled home made sausage that has a hint of sour and spice. You can't find these at just any Thai restaurant. We ordered the Som Tum, Pad Grapao, Pad See Ew Noodles, and BBQ Fried rice. Worst Thai Fried rice I ever had! I've never had vegetable Thai fried rice without tomatoes. I always get extra tomatoes at other Thai places and this place gave me NONE!! I brought my international supper club here on the advice of Thai food expert, Picha M. The service was excellent and they handled our group of 13 people very well, which is a must! I started off with a Thai iced tea, which was delicious. This is one of my favorite things about any Thai dining experience. Ben shared his fresh spring roll with me, and it was delicious. I loved the sauce that came with it. I couldn't decide between my two favorite Thai dishes: masaman curry and pad see ew (fresh noodles in a sweet brown sauce with carrots and broccoli Plus a protein, which is always tofu for me). The prices were reasonable, so I decided to order both so I had leftovers for other meals this week. I was shocked when they came out because they were giant! I ended up with a lot more leftovers then I expected. The pad see ew was delicious- noodles cooked perfectly as well as vegetables, firm tofu just like I like it, and a perfectly flavored sauce. The curry was the right spice level but wasn't my favorite. I liked it, but didn't love it. Overall, I found it to be a great value and enjoyed my experience. Best Thai food in St. Louis! I always get the sweet and sour chicken and am never disappointed. I highly recommend going.

This is the third time that we have ordered from this restaurant and the food has been excellent all three times. We ordered the Angels and curry potstickers as appetizers and an order of yellow curry and one of red curry for our main meal. All were prepared properly and spiced exactly as we ordered. I ordered from grub hub. There was not an option for spice level so it just came medium to low spice. Also no option to give more information to the driver, i.e. in a hotel. I had the spicy basil leaves and the veggies, meat and sauce was decent. Would have wanted more spice. I also ordered Tom Yum soup and that was disappointing. I've been going to Manee Thai for years. For me, they define Thai quisine. The Panang Curry is my favorite because of the flavors and spiciness. And it is one big meal. But there is plenty of diversity on their menu. And the people at the restaurant are always so friendly and accomodating. I was concerned when Covid invaded. But stopping in today for takeout showed me they have adapted well with: a table full of delivery orders, regular takeout and even driveup service. And the food is still great. I started off with the summer rolls, they were really good only thing that's seemed off was the the peanut sauce was really sweet I've always experienced salty peanut sauce. First of all, let me just say that some of the other Yelpers suck balls. I could care less that the international cuisine tasted different in Bangkok or that establishments have changed the recipes to suit a Westernized palette. And if you're thinking you can get a plate of well made noodles in the US served on a banana leaf with a water for less than a buck fifty, you're effing out of your mind. It's called capitalism. You can't even get a decent slice of pizza for that price. Quit comparing a restaurant to an establishment or cuisine thousands of miles away. It doesn't make you sound credible... it makes you sound pretentious and idiotic. You don't have to go to Chicago to know that you're eating a good deep dish. You don't have to go to Vietnam to know that your Bahn Mi sammie is yummy. You don't have to have slept with a Bangkok prostitute to understand that some care was put into making your bowl of Pad Thai. Now on to Manee Thai. I visited this place for the first time last night. It was a Friday in Lent so I figured that a Thai restaurant would be a good option to provide lots of vegetarian and seafood dishes. Their menu is large. We started with fish cakes and spring rolls. The fish cakes were pretty good. The spring rolls were nothing different than what I've had anywhere else. Appetizers were just ok. For entrees we chose the spicy fried rice and the peppercorn catfish. These were very good. It's obvious that someone spent time prepping these ingredients. The carrots were cut in the shape of starbursts, the capers were fresh... I'd never had capers still on their sprig... I actually didn't even know they grew that way. The catfish was not as flaky as I would have liked but the flavor was good. It wasn't spicy at all although the menu included a chili pepper indicator next to it. We ordered the fried rice with shrimp. For $3 more you can add shrimp to many of their dishes, and they don't skimp out. They give you a bunch of very large perfectly cooked shrimp with your order. The rice was my favorite. It was spiced with jalapeños and gave it a tremendously good kick. While I can't compare my meal to what they offer in a cafe in Phuket, I will say that the food here is as good or better than anything you will find on South Grand. The service was awesome. We were waited on by a few different ladies, all who were super nice. Their English ranged from perfect to broken but you could easily communicate with all of them. They were interested how we found out about the place and asked us to come back. Took Teen 1 here for dinner. She likes Pad Woon Sen - they don't have it on the menu but when I asked them about it, they said they would make it for her! I had drunken noodles with tofu. Our food was really good, and they gave us enough of it to feed a small army. Service was a little bit timid - I have found that this is not unusual at Thai restaurants but it doesn't really bother me as long as our needs are met without me having to put in much effort. I think this place has really gone downhill. I used to eat there somewhat frequently because of a general lack of ethnic dining options in the area, and it was always pretty good. Apparently there are new owners and, in my opinion, the food has suffered because of it. The flavors are much more generic and bland, almost like the Thai version of Chinese restaurants that use "Chef's special brown sauce" for 40 different dishes. If you'd like something Asian that's a little more exotic than Chinese in Ballwin, I'd go down the street to Monsoon Vietnamese Bistro, they're usually pretty good. Edit: Oh, and regarding Rachel's comment about the peppers, the way it works is that 1 pepper is sort of like the default level of hotness. Then, if you want it hotter, rather than the waitress trying to interpret what you mean by "Extra hot," you say "3" or "4" or whatever level you think you can tolerate. Related to this, and as a fan of extra hot food, I wouldn't recommend going much over 2 on most dishes because they do make it nice and hot, but as I noted in my review, the flavors aren't that strong to begin with and it's easy to overpower them with the heat. At that point you might as well be eating hot green chiles dipped in fish sauce, that's what the experience will be like. read more

Yum! This whole adventure of finding lunch near my new office is lovely. I decided to get carry out from here and it was terrific. Their lunch specials come with a vegetable spring roll, a crab "angel", and soup of the day. I got the spicy fried rice with a spice level of 3 out of 5. It was fried with green beans, onions, and bean sprouts. The green beans were probably the biggest surprise for me because they were clearly fresh and it significantly improved the quality of the food. I'm somewhat of a green bean connoisseur, so I take my GBs seriously. The spring roll was also delicious. It was full of vegetables which is what I love. The service was great, too. Just dined here on Saturday night after hearing so many friends talk about how good it was. It was indeed good. I had the yellow curry which was very good but really spicy. Their menu is kinda funny because it has a legend to indicate how spicy dishes are- 1 pepper, 2 peppers, etc. However, next to the actual meal descriptions there is only ever one pepper...hmmmm...Anyway, I forgot to ask for mine to be medium and the waitress didn't ask so it came out blazing. Yikes! The service was fast and good. My friends all enjoyed their food, too. My food was perfect. Just the way I like it. I ordered the Tom Yum soup (large) with a spicy rating of 4/5. I'm very glad I did not go full 5/5 Thai hot. It was delicious. I wanted my soup to be more spicy than my main. I also ordered the Chicken Red Curry with a 3/5 spicy rating. It was still spicy, but not too much. I can handle spicy food, but if you are a little sensitive or don't like spicy, don't order your food with more than a 2 rating. I will order from here again. read more
