Hands down best sushi restaurant. The sweet potato vegan sushis are to die for. Amazing atmosphere, very welcoming. Deff coming back here.

Scallion pancakes are ok, could be fluffier and the sauce is more like straight ginger sauce. It could use a mix of soy sauce and more scallions. Been here quite a few times, even back when they were on E. Main St. near the rotary. Food always adequate. Not great but not bad. Went to the luncheon buffet today at their location on Route 9. Have never been treated so rudely by any server in any restaurant in my 40 years of dining out. Wow. Won't be back. Ever. read more

Our new favorite Chinese place in Central MA. My daughter and I went there for the first time today. She had chicken fingers and rice and I had the chicken and Chinese eggplant. The chicken fingers were not overly greasy and had a good batter to chicken ratio. The chicken and eggplant had a decent presentation and came in a tasty and spicy brown sauce. It was quite good. I had this dish down at Bauhania in Shrewsbury and the Mandarin did a much better job with flavor and presentation. The only drawback is they are still new and are working the kinks out. I have been to the Mandarin with a small group and a large group and it is always a great time. The food is delicious and the waitstaff are helpful and attentive. The food is bad , it as a lot of msg , msg is dangerous. Food is not hot warn by the time the bring it to your table it's some what cold and it loos it's taste to it , very expansive . This restaurant was great went there for a small family gathering for a graduation there were thirteen people we had one waiter dedicated to our table named Andy and he was wonderful. Andy brought our drinks promptly upon ordering made sure our water glasses and tea pots were never empty as well as our drinks, our food arrived hot and every dish was amazing this was my first visit to this restaurant but definitely not the last. We ordered sushi as well as multiple appetizers and main dishes and several different types of rice. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening. read more

Used to love this place. However my most recent order will be my last. When I order take out from mandarin I usually spend in the neighborhood of $65. And when my family comes to visit from out of state we usually dine in. So in my opinion we are good customers. My last order included a pu pu for two, general tso's chicken, house special rice, crab rangoons, chicken teriyaki skewers, and scallion pancakes. The woman that answered the phone and took our order even confirmed and read back the order to me. When I got home with my order I saw to my disbelief that I did not receive my general tso's. Upset as I was I called them back to find out if it was forgotten, never charged, etc... The woman that took my call placed me on hold and fowarded me to another woman who assured me that I wasn't charged. However the point remains that I wanted my my generals. And was concerned about the amount of food. So I cooled off on the 15 minute drive back to the restaurant to claim the generals for my own. They said that the woman that took my call may have forgotten to put it on the order. And this is where the one star comes in. They didn't offer me the general for free. Or even a coupon for my wasted time or cold dinner. If they had offered the general for free I still would have insisted on paying for it or gladly taken a coupon as I frequent mandarin regularly. This was not the case they simply took my card and let me pay. Sometimes the act of being humble or even just admitting that a language barrier may have been the cause of the issue will help mandarin in the future. I did not care for the Buffett. It was bland and somewhat under cooked for my liking.

I have only been to Mandarin Westboro for the lunch buffet which I used to frequent two to three times a week since I worked closeby. Now that I am not that close, I go once a week for the buffet. This is the best lunch chinese buffet anywhere in the metrowest area. They do not have too many items so everything is fresh, and everything tastes like it should. The Peking Raviolis are quite good, and the crab rangoon are also fresh and tasty. The outstanding items though are the entrees on the buffet which are well prepared and taste very good. I really like the shrimp with vegetable items (when available), and the beef dishes also. Go for the lunch buffet, you will not go wrong. read more

I feel like Mandarin could use use some more contemporary reviews, as their overall rating seems a bit hampered by the decline of their old location coupled with what sounds like a rough opening at the new location. If my recent experience is indicative of how things are now, then they certainly deserve some attention. This is probably about as good as Americanized Chinese dining gets. The dishes are more or less familiar, but they are prepared very well: fresh ingredients, flavorful, and most importantly, not swimming in sauce. We had a staple app,boneless spareribs, and they were nice and lean and not drowned in rib sauce. For an entree, I had the Basil Treasure, which is a combination of chicken, shrimp, and scallops well-seasoned with basil and ginger. The portion was extremely generous and served on a bed of clear noodles; definitely a bargain at $13.50. I can't comment on the Japanese side of the menu, though we did try the vegetable tempura, which was perfect. We tried a few of the staple Polynesian cocktails, which seemed somewhat on the strong side. Although they are also a bit sweet, one gets the impression that the sweetness is coming from a pleasant mixture of real juices and not from some high fructose corn syrup mixture. Our waitress was great and highly attentive throughout our visit. All in all, a great experience, and look forward to trying Mandarin out again. read more

I have experienced the luncheon buffet at the Mandarin and found it to be very good. Tonight I dined and ordered from the menu. The food was superb. Each item was very fresh. I have to agree with D.J. (1/19/2014) on the hosting staff. The décor is lovely and I have eaten here before and enjoyed the hot entrees on the buffet. Unfortunately, I went on 2/6/14 for a work lunch and was trying to eat some of the healthier options. I had fruit, a salad, and some of the avocado / tuna rolls. I ended up getting sick at work a few hours after eating. It wasn't the stomach flu, because it didn't last for long. Bacillus cereus The 'emetic' form is commonly caused by rice that is not cooked for a time and temperature sufficient to kill any spores present, then improperly refrigerated. It can produce a toxin, cereulide, which is not inactivated by later reheating. This form leads to nausea and vomiting 1-5 hours after consumption. read more

Went in for there lunch not knowing it was a buffet . I was quite disappointed at the selection or lack of. Very small selection for a buffet. Absolutely no chicken dishes unless you want it deep fried. I have never gone into a Chinese buffet and could not find chicken and mixed vegetables or chicken and broccoli. Fried rice was not fresh at 1pm, noodle dish was dried up. Many empty buffet containers and no hurry to fill. The waitress or person picking up plates was very nice and attentive. I love this place! Highly recommend it. We ordered take out again tonight. Had the Buffett with my wife and 2 kids. Not kid price in Buffett and the meal was over 100 with drinks. Overall poor food and expensive.

Been here several times and the food is pretty good. The service? Not so much. Went here with a party of 10 for a bday celebration this week and only a few of us decided to get the buffet. The others ordered dinner platters to share. The wait staff and management literally did not leave our table the ENTIRE time we were there to make sure we weren't sharing buffet items. It was so uncomfortable and a few of us wanted to ask them to please stop watching us! Literally there were at least two staff GLARING at us the entire time we were at dinner. It was so awkward and uncomfortable! We were all mature adults who wanted to enjoy a nice dinner! We weren't trying to be "sneaky" and bring anyone extra food from the buffet. It was like a Seinfeld episode the entire time we were there! The sushi was mediocre at best and there was never a full platter to choose from. There was only a few pieces to take every time I went to get sushi, so didn't have many options. The Chinese buffet food section didn't offer any rice options or lo mein...kind of strange. Anyway, for a fairly pricy place I would expect better food options for the buffet (we didn't get a chance to check it out before making a decision because the food wasn't out yet at 5pm) so we took a chance... And the service was definitely making everyone uncomfortable. For those of you thinking that wait staff who watch their tables is a good thing, yes, I totally agree! But this was different. They weren't watching to see when we needed a refill on a beverage or an extra napkin...they were glaring at us to make sure we weren't sharing the buffet food with the others at our table and making everyone super uncomfortable. Again, we were all adults and understand that your buffet food is for you only..so way to make everyone feel suuuuper uncomfortable. We have given up on this place. Ate their food a few times for take out. They have given us the wrong order twice in a row now. This last time they were very rude about it. What ever they gave us this time, some bland beef dish, tasted like fish and beef. No thanks. There are so many better options around here for this type of food. This was our last visit, since the food is average at best and the service is poor. Don't eat in, it looks like a cheap 1980's restaurant, which sits empty most of the time. I hadn't been in the new place until today. Even the old place was sketchy towards the end, buffet only, and get it early! Went in alone as I was in the area, and had time to kill. Sat at the bar, and ordered a "tidbit" appetizer. $9.50 for ONE shrimp tempura, ONE beef teriyaki and two of the lamest spareribs I've ever had!!!! Twice the price for the food!!! So disappointed, I left during the Sox game. That plus the $6 Mai-Tai for $8.50 sent me out still hungry, and thirsty for a total just under $20 before tip!!!! The food was good. The one star is for the hostess who acted like it was an inconvenience to sit us because we had children. She was very rude and it was obvious she didn't want our kids there. She made our whole group uncomfortable. We would have left but we were meeting a friend and crunched for time. I will not be returning because my kids are always with me during lunch. Contemporary decor and a dining area that is segmented to dampen any conversational sound -allows for a nice, quiet dining experience. The food is extremely good tasting, light and atypical for the group. The sushi choice is vast and extremely fresh. The customer service staff is on top of their game and each is extremely knowledgable of the food they serve. The Mandarin is our "go to" place for sushi and takeout. We love it for that, but now we love the Mandarin even more for helping us throw a great party! We hosted a cocktail party for 30 guests at the restaurant, and everything was great. The manager was very easy to work with, and was able to accommodate our every request. We love going to Mandarin but mostly order take-out sushi. The drinks and entrees are a little expensive so sometimes we like to skip the service and just take their yummy sushi home. It is always packed neatly and with plenty of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. When we do dine-in, we always sit in the bar area and have great service. The dining room is pretty big and I don't like sitting at tables in the middle of the large space but it is great for groups and families. The bar tender usually makes the drinks a little to strong but I'm not really complaining on that front. read more

We went here on a recommandation from a friend just for the buffett. This place appears to be very new with new owners who bought the old Westboro Manadarian. The decor is very nice and the place is very well lit also being very handicap accessible. The service for drink and water refills was a little slower than we expected, but we came for the food which was very good and fresh. I would say out of all the chinese food buffets they had the widest selection of choice like rice, chicken, noodles, beef and many other things. In addition to those items they had ice cream, fresh fruit, sushi and more. The missing star is only for the poor / slow service. , otherwise this would be a 5 star. read more
